Work from home... *Small Agency Edition*

This week I did my usual out of office work. I interviewed a United Way volunteer about his work with 100,000 Books (https://uwswpa.org/100000-books/). I have gotten much better at phone interviews over the course of this internship, I almost prefer them to face-to-face ones! I also did some work complying articles fro different client’s social media pages. Google Alerts have become my new best friend. 

On Friday I worked from home (Starbucks) due to the fact that all of my co-workers would be out of the office for one reason or another (perks of working for a small agency I guess). 

In the morning I touched base with Abby and then got started on a variety of projects. I started by posting to local event calendars. We are currently promoting “Celebrate the South Hills with SHIM” (http://shimcares.org/celebrate2017/) and I posted the event information to calendars on the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Tribune-Review, and the Almanac’s website. 

After that I worked on a press release announcing a new chairperson for United Way. I am getting much better at crafting press releases from scratch but I still have a lot to learn before I can feel like I’ve mastered it. 

Then I jumped over to SHIM world and worked on a media advisory for their Holocaust Observance (http://shimcares.org/event/annual-holocaust-observance/). I have become a big fan of media advisories. 

I then wrote a news announcement for Campbell & Levine, a law firm I had never before worked with. I am so glad I have a background in journalism and writing because I could not do this job well if I didn’t.

For the remainder of the day I worked on writing a story about the family I interviewed last week from St. Anthony’s School Programs (https://www.stanthonykids.org/). It was basically just like writing a profile but with a little more family-based.

It was nice not have to get up as early and have to walk to the bus in the rain. I will say that.
