I just published the first chapter of my dedman fic! It's been about half a year since I wrote something that wasn't strictly academic, so I'm super nervous. Heavily inspired by Resilient by kerofish but hopefully it's good enough as a standalone. I can't wait till they kiss omg kicking my legs just thinking about it. Mark Grayson/Invincible x Starfire!Reader

Imagine being an alien similar to DC's Starfire, you can follow the original line of the character (I follow more than anything the one from the comics or the 2003 series) where your planet was conquered by another race (thanks to your sister) Or you can go the more "family friendly" line, which is that you decided to explore the world outside your home planet but ended up in the hands of some kind of intergalactic trafficking network.

I imagine that if it is the first case, it is most likely that your race has been conquered by the Viltrumite themselves, which caused a MASSACRE to occur from which you and your sister were miraculously able to escape.

Regardless of what you choose, you ended up on Earth, although having gone through great traumatic events, so when you see this new world, with a strange species, you begin to attack by mere instinct (like what Starfire did in the first chapter of Teen Titans)

That's when Mark or rather INVINCIBLE appears.

He tries to fight you at first, get you away from the civilians, that is until he realizes how scared you are (especially if we're talking about the case of the Viltrumite invasion and you realize that Mark IS a Viltrumite). So he tries to change his strategy and try to calm you down as much as he can.

When he succeeds, he ends up taking you to the Globe's guardians to see what to do. I imagine that you are a little different than the original Starfire, you are more scared and defensive in this situation, at first you only trusted Mark.

For this reason, Cecil decides that you will stay in the Pentagon until they know what to do with you. Mark helps you learn the "normal" things of the Earth and show Cecil that you are not a threat.

(if you had to learn the human language by "lip contact" the whole team definitely makes fun of Mark a little for being in love now).

Imagine Mark and Eve bringing you clothes to try on!🥺Eve probably just created it out of nowhere, but she also brings clothes that her parents give her that she doesn't want and for some reason you like.

Mark offers to help you train! At first he tries to go easy on you, but when you almost knock him out with your laser beams, he learns his lesson.

He definitely takes you out to eat junk food! More when he realizes that the Pentagon's food doesn't help you much because of your big appetite. Mark was surprised at how much food you could eat but luckily Cecil pays for it (just don't tell him yet🤫)

Definitely one of Mark's favorite things about you, when you're over the trauma, is your innocent attitude, even after all, you're very bubbly and friendly. which is at least difficult to find in your line of work, so he wants to keep that part of yourself as much as possible.

Mark definitely took you to meet his mother, at first he was a little nervous that she wouldn't accept you after what happened with his father, but surprisingly Debbie took it very well.

Thanks to this you were able to learn more about the culture of the Earth, you constantly asked Debbie about the places she had seen, what they were like and their culture (even some anecdotes about Mark when he was a child), and with your bubbly and youthful attitude she did not It was difficult for Debbie to warm to you easily.

Apart from that it helped you fall in love with the Earth quite quickly, see its beauty for yourself, which encouraged you to be your own version of a hero.

When you want to become a heroine, Mark enters into an internal conflict. On the one hand, he KNOWS very well that you don't want someone to make decisions for you, he respects that, but on the other hand, he is TERRIFIED by the possibility that you will get hurt, captured, or lose COMPLETLY your being or worse, DIE.

It is probably thanks to this conversation that you two become a couple.

In general, at first Mark tries to do your first patrols with you to teach you the basics, then he lets you do whatever you want, and he is SO PROUD when you beat someone.

"THAT IS MY GIRL!" kind of proud.

He definitely really likes flying with you and just wandering, at least he feels like there you two have more privacy. Apart from that he likes how you look in your element. according to him.

If you talk about the first case of origin that I mentioned at the beginning and your sister comes back, Mark sees through ALL the red flags and will be the first to warn you about her, since he went through something similar with his family, you don't want to go through that.

If both fight together, POWER COUPLE. LITERAL. You have certain skills that Mark doesn't, so they complement each other very well.

If Mark gets hurt, you go into RAMPAGE MODE and honestly? Mark doesn't know if he should be scared or more in love. or excited.

If YOU get hurt GOD HELP US, MARK IS ANGRY---someone is going to have a bad time. And You a Lot of cuddles.

Overall, both of them are like two Golden Retrievers being happy together.

i think it's so fun donald is a robot with such a strong motif of humanity vs cecil being very much human with a strong motif of acting like a machine :3c they are just very star crossed...

YYESSSSSSS ikr!!! I love how their motifs are so symmetrical and how complementary they are!!

The show does a really good job at portraying Cecil and Donald's dynamic as polar opposites. It's in every detail - in their character design (Cecil's characteristics are visually eye-catching (large visible scar + long hair) while Donald is so plain he blends in the background), in their body language (Cecil is firm and confident, Donald is hypervigilant and jumpy), in their ability to handle people's emotions!

i'm so sorry i'm talking too much but uh. more under the cut if you're interested in hearing some rambling???

Cecil's empathy seems limited. His attempts at comforting seem to take root in guilt, in his willingness to patch up the problems that he believes he has allowed to happen (even indirectly). He'll go above and beyond to fix things up and make things easier for people when they go through intense events (spending a fortune of taxpayers' money to rebuild Donald as lifelike as possible so he can be fooled into thinking that he's an organic human and lead a somewhat normal life; ensuring Mark and Debbie's financial safety following Nolan's departure) ... yet, you can't expect him to be remotely competent with just words.

This man's entire foundation takes root in guilt. Another example is the choice to stay heavily and permanently disfigured following the Chemical X incident, as a reminder of his failure to save others. I imagine that the buildup of angst and guilt is subconsciously consuming him from the inside, on top of the incredibly harmful lifestyle that he's been leading (little to no sleep + the goo bath must fuck up his brain so badly), is what pushes him into this state of emotional blindness.

Donald, on the other hand, directly involves himself with people. He's the direct link between Cecil and the rest of the GDA, the GDA and the rest of the world. He's the one who escorts Mark and Debbie at the GDA hospital when Nolan is recovering. He doesn't just bring them here without a word - he talks to them. He sees that Mark is genuinely curious, and he provides information about the GDA and its functions; after all, the boy's father is between life and death, and anything is better than some heavy silence on the way to see him. When Debbie insists on staying to watch over Nolan, Cecil relunctantly agrees in absolute silence, and Donald is the one who confirms it verbally in an attempt to smooth things over, to cut through the tension. Donald is constantly trying his best - even in the smallest details! Invincible's mission against the Flaxans was honestly a shitshow, even though it was his first time on the field. And yet?

I can definitely picture Donald glossing over the catastrophic numbers and saying something that would both reassure Debbie and make her feel proud. He could just say nothing, or tell her the truth about Mark struggling during his debut.

And of course, let's talk about the brutal discovery of his own death, the s/lf-h/rming episode in the bathroom leading to even more angst - imagine going through the pain of peeling your skin off in a desperate attempt to prove your humanity, only to find wires and metal under your skin?????? - the confrontation with Cecil who puts his entire trust on Donald and vice-versa, Cecil casually explaining that Donald's body isn't organic anymore and that he's pretty much just a brain in a jar and that any feeling of inadequacy is just "existential angst"?? then he just keep fucking working because the world can't afford to make a pause while he goes through anxiety attacks and dissociative episodes. Then Cecil tells him the whole truth, finally, and Donald gets to watch an entire compilation of his numerous deaths. After all of this, he finally completes the puzzle, he finally understands where all the trauma and pain and anxiety are coming from - he fucking died, in brutal and agonizing ways, and he decided to erase his memories so he could stay as efficient and not get held back by the trauma of dying????????

... Then, William calls him, and Donald immediately comes over to help. Not even a second is spent on, idk, recovering from the emotional rollercoaster. That man just learned that he's been trapped in a loop, working day and night for the GDA and putting his life on the line until he gets killed, only for the government to gather what's left of him and piece him back into a functional soldier so he can continue working. He's being denied the most basic, fundamental biological function that occurs within every organism - he is not allowed to die.

But he's on the roof with two struggling kids, one of which is going through the same kind of existential crisis that had been plaguing him these past few weeks. So of course he's going to do his best to help. William and Rick have no idea what Donald just went through, and they don't need to know - he shows vulnerability without dumping his trauma out.

Donald could have sent an emergency team to stop Rick's attempt and have him hospitalized for his safety, but he personally came to his rescue because he felt that it was the right thing to do. Even after everything he's been through, he still puts others in priority.

TLDR; Cecil and Donald are both very selfless but in totally different ways that somehow complete each other as the leading figures of the GDA.

Her husband Jefferson's first mission as Captain was to capture the Prowler, but he was killed in the process. Years as a childless widow, Rio moved back to Puerto Rico as a community leader. But in secret, she lives as the San Juan hero as Spider-Woman.

imagino que si es el primer caso, lo mas probable es que tu raza haya sido conquistada por los propios Viltrumita, lo que hizo que ocurriera una MASACRE de la cual milagrosamente tu y tu hermana pudieron huir.

indiferentemente de lo que elijas, terminaste en la tierra, aunque habiendo pasado grandes eventos traumaticos, por lo que cuando vez a este mundo nuevo, con una especie extraña, empiezas a atacar por mero instinto (como lo que hizo Starfire en el primer capítulo de Teen Titans)

es entonces cuando Mark o mejor dicho INVENCIBLE aparece.

el trata de pelear contigo al principio, alejarte de los civiles, eso hasta que se da cuenta de lo asustada que estas(especialmente si hablamos del caso de la invasión Viltrumita y te das cuenta que Mark ES un viltrumita). por lo que trata el cambia de estrategia e intenta calmarte lo mas que puede.

cuando lo logra el te termina llevando con los guardianes del Globo para ver que hacer. me imagino que eres un poco diferente que la Starfire original, estás mas asustada y a la defensiva en esta situación, al principio solo confiabas en Mark.

por lo mismo Cecil decide que te quedaras en el pentagono hasta que sepan que hacer contigo. Mark te hecha una mano para aprender las cosas "normales" de la tierra y mostrarle a Cecil que no eres una amenaza.

(si tuviste que aprender el idioma humano por "contacto labial" definitivamente todo el equipo se burla un poco de Mark por estar enamorado ahora).

¡imagínate a Mark e Eve trayendote ropa para probarte!🥺 Eve probablemente solo la crea apartir de la nada, pero tambien trae ropa que le dan sus padres que no quiere y por alguna razon a ti te gusta.

Mark se ofrece a ayudarte a entrenar! al principio trata de ir facil contigo, pero cuando casi lo dejas sin cabeza con tus rayos laser, aprende la leccion.

Definitivamente el te saca para comer comida chatarra! mas cuando se da cuenta de que la comida del pentágono no te ayuda mucho por tu gran apetito. Mark se sorprendió de la cantidad de comida que podias comer pero afortunadamente Cecil lo paga(solo no le digas todavia🤫)

definitivamente una de las cosas favoritas de Mark sobre ti, cuando ya tienes superado el trauma, es ru actitud inocente, aun después de todo, eres muy buebujeante y amigable. lo cual es cuanto menos difícil de encontrar en su linea de trabajo, por lo que quiere mantener esa parte de ti lo mas posible.

Mark definitivamente te llevo a conocer a su madre, al principio estaba algo nervioso de que no te aceptara después de lo que paso con su padre, pero sorprendentemente Debbie lo tomo muy bien.

gracias a esto pudiste conocer mas sobre la cultura de la tierra, le preguntabas a Debbie constantemente sobre los lugares que ella habia visto, como eran y su cultura (incluso algunas anécdotas de Mark cuando era niño), y con tu actitud burbujeante y juvenil no fue difícil para Debbie encariñarse contigo fácilmente.

aparte de que te ayudo a enamorarte bastante rapido de la tierra, ver su belleza por ti misma, lo cual te animo a ser tu propia version de un heroe.

cuando quieres volverte una heroina, Mark entra en un conflicto interno, por una parte SABE muy bien qje no quieres que alguien tome decisiones por ti, lo respeta, pero por otra parte le ATERRA la posibilidad de que te lastimes, te capturen, pierdas por completo tu ser o peor, MUERAS.

probablemente gracias a esta conversación es que ustedes dos se vuelven pareja.

en general al principio Mark trata de hacer tus primeras patrullas contigo para enseñarte lo basico, después de te deja hacer lo que quieras, y esta TAN ORGULLOSO cuando le ganas a alguien.

"¡ESA ES MI CHICA!" tipo de orgulloso.

definitivamente le gusta mucho volar contigo y simplemente divagar, por lo menos siente que ahi ustedes dos tienen mas Privacidad. aparte de que le gusta como te vez en tu elemento. segun el.

si hablamls del primer caso de origen que dije al principio y tu hermana vuelve, Mark ve atravez de TODAS las banderas rojas y sera el primero en advertirte sobre ella, ya el paso por algo similar con su familia, no quieres pasar por eso.

si ambos pelean juntos, PAREJA DE PODER. LITERAL. tienes ciertas habilidades que Mark no, por lo que se complementan muy bien.

si Mark se lastima, entras en MODO RAMPAGE y ¿sinceramente? Mark no sabe si deberia estar asustado o mas enamorado. o exitado.

si TU te lastimas DIOS AYÚDANOS, MARK ESTA ENOJADO--- alguien la va a pasar mal.

en general, ambos son como dos Golden Retrirvers siendo felices juntos.
