@queenlucythevaliant your story about breaking down giggling in the middle of leading worship reminded me of a story of my own!
So @bluesidedown and I grew up PKs in a small town church with an average age of about 70. So we were the only regular attendees under 35 and naturally that meant we got drafted to run the overheads.
Now you have to understand, when we started doing it, this job involved an actual old style overhead projector and clear sheets with the words printed on. We showed up for church on Sunday and changed the sheets between songs, maybe moved the sheet a bit or taped paper over a verse we weren't singing, all based on a list the worship leader left on the pew where we sat at the front.
Then, just in time for the church's 75th anniversary we got dragged allllll the way into the twenty-first century all at once, with a brand new laptop and a digital projector and fancy software......and words imported from CCLI that had no punctuation. So whenever we added a new song to the downloaded library, we had to go in and manually add all the punctuation to match the hymnbook or the old song sheets.
So every Saturday evening Blue and I would walk across the alley to the church and I would photocopy the bulletin while she put together the playlist of songs for the next day. And if I finished before she did, I helped her by dictating punctuation and suchlike.
Now on the evening in question, one of the new songs was Power in the Blood. I was sitting in the very last pew with a hymnal, and Blue was at the computer at the back adding the punctuation to the slides. It was all fine through the first verse, but then I got to the chorus.
"There is power (comma) power (comma) wonder working power
In the bloooooood of the Lammmbbbb (semicolon!)
There is power (comma) power (comma) wonder working power
In the precious blood of the Lamb (period!)"
We were in STITCHES! And of course when we sang it in the service the next morning Blue and I are sitting at the computer at the back whispering the commas and semicolons under our breath during the chorus. To this day, even if I don't always say it aloud, when I sing this song I think the punctuation Every. Single. Time.
My friend Eric Lige is a renowned leader of multicultural worship, and a composer, arranger, and recording artist.
He recently recorded this hymn with lyrics by Fuller Theological Professor Ed Wilmington. Ed set the lyrics to the tune of “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing” (Nettleton).
The singing is shared by Eric Lige and Becky Gose.

“The song is a prayer to a God who is generous in justice, love, and mercy. It’s a prayer asking God to give us this same gift of generosity. When we sing the line in verse 3 of “You have blessed us with abundance” I tend to see that everyone has something to share that can bless others be it through a prayer, conversation, meal, ride, encouraging word, a note, and so much more.” - Eric Lige

Verse 1:
God of justice, love, and mercy
Pour Your wisdom on our souls
By Your all-sustaining power
Keep our spirits strong and whole
Lift our eyes to see Your vision
Of a world in urgent need –
Grant us courage, then, to follow
Bringing comfort with each deed
Verse 2:
God of justice, love, and mercy
With compassion let us care
As we come in humble weakness
May Your strength be ours to share
Press our hearts to know the struggle
Of the ones we cannot see –
Brothers, sisters, all who suffer
May Your kindness set us free
Verse 3:
God of justice, love, and mercy
Send us out and make us bold
As we strive for Your high calling
Let our hands Your mercies hold
You have blessed us with abundance
Gifts to share with those in need –
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
May we follow as You lead
Swaarde gaan deur my hart en siel
("Maria het al hierdie woorde bewaar en in haar hart oordink…")

Cody Carnes Announces New Album Releasing August 25
GRAMMY®-nominated Cody Carnes has released the radio version of the title track to his forthcoming live album, Firm Foundation, which will release on August 25th. This song is going for adds today at radio and has also moved up 15 spots to the Top 20 on the most recent CCLI chart.
Click here and below to listen to the radio version of this title track, which he also performed last week at CMB Momentum.
Although a version of the LP’s title cut has been circulating for more than a year, Carnes says he’s known for quite some time that “Firm Foundation (He Won’t)” was always meant to provide this collection’s namesake.
“This is one of my favorite songs I’ve ever been a part of writing, and I really believe in it,” Cody Carnes shares. “I’ve seen it spark a room while I’m leading like no other song I’ve been a part of.”
Carnes adds about the songs on this upcoming album, “These songs celebrate the God who never ever fails. They were written out of encounters with Jesus and they carry His certain hope in uncertain times. When everything around me is shaken, I’ve never been more glad that I put my faith in Jesus.”
“Firm Foundation (He Won’t)” is the follow-up song to his first-ever No. 1 radio single, “Ain’t Nobody,” which spent four weeks on the top of the Mediabase Christian Audience chart. Carnes was also recently nominated for “Breakout Single of the Year” at this year’s K-LOVE Fan Awards where he performed his hit song with country artist Russell Dickerson, which will have a special encore presentation on TBN tonight and is available on the TBN app.
Last summer, Carnes held a two-night live worship event at his church home base, The Belonging Co., in Nashville. The special event produced his first-ever live album, God Is Good!, which was released last year as well as the upcoming Firm Foundation. Carnes spoke with K-LOVE On Demand about this special recording and writing process that resulted in two very unique projects on the show, “Empty Stage with Andrew Greer.”
Continuing on his first headlining tour with worship leader Benjamin William Hastings, Carnes will head out for the second run next month. The “Blessing Tour” with his wife Kari Jobe will pick up again this fall for the Europe and UK dates. Click here to see all of his upcoming tour dates.
