“I really did not miss seeing my name in these...” Jason muttered, eyeing the tabloid distastefully. They thankfully hadn’t managed a recent picture of him - he knew his surroundings too well now to be snuck up on by paparazzi and had made sure there were various rude hand gestures involved to keep the photos they snapped from being sold. But the one they did have - grainy and slightly out of focus, clearly taken by someone trained less in photography and more in covert surveillance - was from a few years ago. Germany, when he had been operating with the League.
Thankfully the tabloids hadn’t picked up on that part.
Wayne family in crisis! Golden child to face criminal charges while black sheep returns from the dead!
“How easy do we think it would be to fake my death a second time?” He questioned with a sigh. Maybe if people knew the first time was indeed real, they wouldn’t be hounding him so hard to attend court mandates. “Tim can join me this time. Hide out in Cuba, we could both use some sun.”

Verdant was almost ready to open its doors back up and Thea had gone out every night to try and find who had vandalized her club in order to get her sweet revenge. Though the last thing she’d expected was to find a clue as to who was responsible for what had happened. Speedy wasn’t about to let her employees do all of the dirty work - she wanted to actively help out and so, that was exactly what she did. During one of the cleanups, she’d found something that would lead her right to the person she was looking for and it shocked her more than she thought it would. A piece of an arrow stuck out from under one of the booths and the moment Thea spotted it, she’d bent down to pick it up. No, this wasn’t an arrow that her brother used, she knew that much. She’d grown painfully aware of the fact that this arrow belonged to her own father - Malcolm Merlyn. But why would he do this to her? Why would he claim to want to bond with her and be a real father, yet destroy the one thing she cared most about? Could it be that Malcolm had shown up here to try and protect Verdant when the perpetrator had been here? Maybe he’d stumbled upon the scene and tried to take them out with his bow and arrow? But if that was the case, then why hadn’t Malcolm said a single word to her about it? And if the other person had been shot by him, why was there no blood? And why hadn’t she spotted them when she’d arrived? Malcolm was a skilled archer, so he’d surely injure the culprit to the point where he’d incapacitate them. He’d either bring them to Thea or she would have found that person inside the club. Everything was pointing to her dad being the one who did all of this and it was a realization that hit her hard. Speedy had taken the broken arrow with her as she searched the streets for Malcolm, anger and rage fueling the fire within her. It had taken her a little while before she’d found him in the park, but the moment she did, all Thea did was reach for her bow, taking an arrow from the quiver on her back. Pulling the back of the arrow against the string of the bow, she kept it in place with her fingers. “Hello, dad. I mean, Malcolm. Vandalize any clubs lately?”

The aftermath of what had happened to the city was about helping this place and the people in it get back on track for the blonde. No matter what anyone would tell her, she felt like it was her civic duty to help and that feeling wouldn’t stop nagging at her until she actually tried to do something useful - something that’d make everything better again. She’d been wandering the streets for a while now, seeing how badly damaged the place she called home really was and it saddened her. It was something that she couldn’t mask from her face, that emotion came shining through right away. Usually, her cheerfulness dominated, but that wasn’t exactly the case today.

Angel made the decision to head into the local cafe to see if there might be people who needed some extra hands. “Here, let me help you with that.” the metahuman soon spotted one of the waitresses who was pulling up tables and chairs that were still scattered across the floor and she was quick to come to the young woman’s aid.

Roy stopped suddenly in his tracks - it felt like almost in the blink of an eye he had went from on the train to Keystone, chasing down a lead on the Vertigo dealers Rory had been looking into, and in the next he was back in Star City. How the hell was that possible? He looked around himself in confusion at the familiar streets, noting the festive lights strung up on nearly every shop front and street corner, that definitely hadn’t been there when he left.
He was dressed differently than when he left, bundled up in more layers for the winter, and it took him a moment to find the correct pocket where his phone was. “What the hell?” He exclaimed nearly dropping it at the date that blinked up at him from the home screen - December 31st 2020. It couldn’t be. He left for Keystone in August.

“It’s actually really good!” Carter mumbled around a mouthful of the mass of pastry, meat and sauce crammed into his mouth. An entire holiday roast dinner, trimmings and all, in a croissant. “Christmas markets invent the best things ever.”

“Come on, one more game. Maybe you’ll win this time.” Nyssa goaded as she flashed the notes her opponent had just handed over. She had found she was quite good at shooting pool, and it was a fun enough pass-time to keep her occupied. And it was proving at least lucrative enough to pay for her drinks.

“Thanks for letting me crash here for a little bit. It’s about time I get back to reality.” Sara nudged her foot into the jam of the door. Felicity didn’t answer questions when the sopping wet canary stood pitifully at her doorstep. “Tell Ollie that I’m only a call away if things spiral out. You know I’ll be here--right?” A rare flash of insecurity roared through her lean frame.

“You know, now that flu season is looming over our heads, it wouldn’t hurt to get a flu shot, you know,” Tommy offered, rolling his sleeves up. “And I’ll have you know I have a great track record for raving reviews when it comes to giving vaccinations.”

Oliver couldn’t shake the eeriness that enveloped his frame. The booming bass that radiated from the speakers scrambled ambient awareness; the club was swarming with frenzied bodies that lacked coordination or tact to care. He had been looking for his sister all day and it didn’t surprise him that she’d thrown herself full force into making Verdant a furthered success.

In moments of quiet contemplation, Kory liked to think back on the tales her mother told her as a young Tamaranian. Of the time before her planet was forced to evolve from their peaceful nature and become the formidable warriors they were today. She hadn’t been born into this fabled life of harmonious bliss but that didn’t mean she couldn’t fantasize about the concept. A gentle soul, she was her happiest when in flight. It was what her people were once notable known for, converting the vitality of solar flares into the power of flight. Give her the blue of the sky and she had clarity, for in that expanse of sweet calm air was a sense of freedom. That ever sought after serenity. It was all she could possible hope to achieve for this world and all others. Kory might have been just a strange otherworldly cog in the grand scheme of things, fighting every day alongside her fellow heroes to achieve some semblance of tranquil Utopia. But she took her role seriously.
Bouncing ringlets of burning copper streaked behind her as she soared through the air, dipping in and out of perfectly misshapen clouds of white. Somewhere above this sky, born of the color of summer iris, swirled galaxies of brilliant stars. On fine days such as this she could feel their energy the same as the smile of her loved ones infused with her soul, raising her higher. She came to a smooth stop, hovering blissfully, letting her being join the serenity of quietness. She inhaled. This was what her spirit called for, a chance to be one with so much and feel the togetherness of solitary moments. The synergy of all living things. Some Earthains liked to proclaim the entire universe was connected, as they all were, and in that moment it was so tangible.
Tumblr media
Her reprieve was, unfortunately, interrupted by the subtle chirp from the communication piece embedded in her ear canal. “Before you ask, yes I am still patrolling” Kory hummed, resuming her early flight pattern at a much lower altitude. “I just took al little…detour. Oh it is a glorious day isn’t it?” Her tone lilted into a melodious note. “All is well on my end, heading back your way”

“You realise this is probably the least subtle way to give me orders, right?” Jason muttered lowly into the payphone. He didn’t even know the old things still worked, but apparently they did. Though he couldn’t remember the last time he saw someone using them - he had to be sticking out like a sore thumb.
“It’s a lot easier to know if my other little bird is listening in.” Talia informed him coolly, and he had to stop from rolling his eyes at the smirk he could hear in her tone. No guarantee she didn’t have eyes on him and might take offence to it. “Unless you’d prefer I pay your apartment a visit? You could properly introduce me to your little girlfriend.”
Tumblr media
He clenched his jaw tight at the threat, merely nodding before realising she couldn’t see him - or at least would keep up the facade she couldn’t. “The payphones are fine.” He muttered. “What you say goes.” He confirmed again, before folding up the hastily scribbled note of the name she had given him and tucking it safely in his breast pocket.
“Good. I will be generous with this one and give you a month, but I expect you to be quick in picking up your old training.” She advised, before he heard the soft click of the phone hanging up and the dial tone after.
He let out a frustrated sigh, placing the phone down on the receiver a little more violently than necessary, and stepping back. “Shit.” He grumbled, when he didn’t look where he was going, inadvertently knocking into someone. “Sorry.”

“Yeah...” Thea mused as she took the other person’s glass and placed it down on the bar behind her, out of reach. “I think you’ve had enough, so I’m cutting you off.” she understood that a lot had happened lately and that people needed a distraction or to just wind down because of it, but truth be told, she was also in no mood to deal with drunks tonight. Or with having to clean up after them if they continued to down drink after drink - the brunette was still the owner of this club and had to be responsible.

Angel knew that going to the movies wasn’t really a popular thing to do anymore and while she herself had always loved it, she’d decided to watch something on her iPad instead. The blonde had found a nice and quiet spot in the park, having sprawled her blanket out on the grass and scattering her snacks about. She’d been here for a while now, with the movie coming to an end soon and a few sniffles leaving her. “I love this movie so much. And the Cheetos are good too. Note to self, get tissues next time.”

“Yeah... sorry, I wasn’t listening. This whole thing is putting me to sleep.” Roy shrugged, his head dipping back in boredom. How did the old Roy ever handle these people, he didn’t know. All their problems were so petty, and most of them weren’t nearly as smart as they thought they were.

“Hmm, Star City,” Mark hummed, looking out on the darkness as he decided where to start. First National Bank seemed like a good bet, right? It was well past closing time, and he was sure that he wasn’t followed like last time in Keystone.
After finding his way inside, he quickly took out the nightguard before continuing on his way towards the main vault. Millions of dollars were calling out his name, and there were just a few more steps before those bills were his to do whatever he pleased.
After little struggle getting the vault open, Mark stuffed his duffle with the bills, a wide smile on his face as he raked in the cash. He practically walked out the front door with the duffle slung over his shoulder, a smug smile spread across his face. Gusts of wind gathered beneath his feet, bringing him to the top of the First National Bank in Star City before he heard a voice call out to him.

“Can I help you? I’m a little busy here.”
