“I really did not miss seeing my name in these...” Jason muttered, eyeing the tabloid distastefully. They thankfully hadn’t managed a recent picture of him - he knew his surroundings too well now to be snuck up on by paparazzi and had made sure there were various rude hand gestures involved to keep the photos they snapped from being sold. But the one they did have - grainy and slightly out of focus, clearly taken by someone trained less in photography and more in covert surveillance - was from a few years ago. Germany, when he had been operating with the League.
Thankfully the tabloids hadn’t picked up on that part.
Wayne family in crisis! Golden child to face criminal charges while black sheep returns from the dead!
“How easy do we think it would be to fake my death a second time?” He questioned with a sigh. Maybe if people knew the first time was indeed real, they wouldn’t be hounding him so hard to attend court mandates. “Tim can join me this time. Hide out in Cuba, we could both use some sun.”

Verdant was almost ready to open its doors back up and Thea had gone out every night to try and find who had vandalized her club in order to get her sweet revenge. Though the last thing she’d expected was to find a clue as to who was responsible for what had happened. Speedy wasn’t about to let her employees do all of the dirty work - she wanted to actively help out and so, that was exactly what she did. During one of the cleanups, she’d found something that would lead her right to the person she was looking for and it shocked her more than she thought it would. A piece of an arrow stuck out from under one of the booths and the moment Thea spotted it, she’d bent down to pick it up. No, this wasn’t an arrow that her brother used, she knew that much. She’d grown painfully aware of the fact that this arrow belonged to her own father - Malcolm Merlyn. But why would he do this to her? Why would he claim to want to bond with her and be a real father, yet destroy the one thing she cared most about? Could it be that Malcolm had shown up here to try and protect Verdant when the perpetrator had been here? Maybe he’d stumbled upon the scene and tried to take them out with his bow and arrow? But if that was the case, then why hadn’t Malcolm said a single word to her about it? And if the other person had been shot by him, why was there no blood? And why hadn’t she spotted them when she’d arrived? Malcolm was a skilled archer, so he’d surely injure the culprit to the point where he’d incapacitate them. He’d either bring them to Thea or she would have found that person inside the club. Everything was pointing to her dad being the one who did all of this and it was a realization that hit her hard. Speedy had taken the broken arrow with her as she searched the streets for Malcolm, anger and rage fueling the fire within her. It had taken her a little while before she’d found him in the park, but the moment she did, all Thea did was reach for her bow, taking an arrow from the quiver on her back. Pulling the back of the arrow against the string of the bow, she kept it in place with her fingers. “Hello, dad. I mean, Malcolm. Vandalize any clubs lately?”

The aftermath of what had happened to the city was about helping this place and the people in it get back on track for the blonde. No matter what anyone would tell her, she felt like it was her civic duty to help and that feeling wouldn’t stop nagging at her until she actually tried to do something useful - something that’d make everything better again. She’d been wandering the streets for a while now, seeing how badly damaged the place she called home really was and it saddened her. It was something that she couldn’t mask from her face, that emotion came shining through right away. Usually, her cheerfulness dominated, but that wasn’t exactly the case today.

Angel made the decision to head into the local cafe to see if there might be people who needed some extra hands. “Here, let me help you with that.” the metahuman soon spotted one of the waitresses who was pulling up tables and chairs that were still scattered across the floor and she was quick to come to the young woman’s aid.

Angel knew that going to the movies wasn’t really a popular thing to do anymore and while she herself had always loved it, she’d decided to watch something on her iPad instead. The blonde had found a nice and quiet spot in the park, having sprawled her blanket out on the grass and scattering her snacks about. She’d been here for a while now, with the movie coming to an end soon and a few sniffles leaving her. “I love this movie so much. And the Cheetos are good too. Note to self, get tissues next time.”

“Yeah...” Thea mused as she took the other person’s glass and placed it down on the bar behind her, out of reach. “I think you’ve had enough, so I’m cutting you off.” she understood that a lot had happened lately and that people needed a distraction or to just wind down because of it, but truth be told, she was also in no mood to deal with drunks tonight. Or with having to clean up after them if they continued to down drink after drink - the brunette was still the owner of this club and had to be responsible.

Thea hated doing inventory, but it was a thing that needed to be done, it was part of the job. And she loved Verdant too much to not be as involved as she was. Besides, the brunette was in a good mood these days because according to Malcolm, she’d gotten good enough to join the League Of Assassins. That was the whole reason why she’d left Star City in the first place, to become a better and stronger fighter. For months on end, Thea had trained her ass off with her father and now, she’d finally gotten what she wanted. Evidently however, word spread like wildfire and it presented itself in the vandalism of her club. Malcolm had many enemies and those people would come for the both of them, apparently starting with Verdant. The moment that Thea set foot inside her own club, she was met with the entire interior having been destroyed. She stopped dead in her tracks, staring around in shock at the mess all around her. I should’ve expected this. She should have known that people would come after her, she just hadn’t expected it to happen just yet - or for Verdant to be the first target. Broken bottles were scattered across the floor, pools of liquid laying around. Tables and chairs were in pieces, making it difficult to walk through the club, but Thea somehow managed to find a path that lead to the bar. That was where she spotted a note that had been secured to the wooden surface of the bar, a dagger piercing through the paper in order to hold it in place. Game on was what the text read, making her think that the person in question knew she’d recently joined the League Of Assassins. The brown haired girl had no idea who was responsible for this, but she wasn’t about to let this get to her. She was Thea Queen, she wouldn’t let anything get her down. Speedy was angry, lit with a fire that made her want to find those who had destroyed her baby and make them pay. The only thing that meant more to Thea in her life were her family and friends. “This is war.”

It wasn’t that Thea wasn’t having a good time at the reopening of Verdant, it was more so that a countless amount of thoughts were currently plaguing her mind. She didn’t know what Malcolm was up to or if he’d do something to mess up her life again, she didn’t even know how Oliver currently felt about her and it just left her feeling rather empty. Verdant had been doing so well prior to Malcolm’s vandalizing, so much that Thea was even considering branching out to other venues like Central City. But now? Now she was reluctant about doing that because she didn’t want to keep cleaning up her father’s messes and having even more reasons to hate him. People around her were drinking, dancing and socializing, though it made the girl feel suffocated - like she couldn’t breathe. It was the reason why she needed to step outside and get some fresh air, to clear her mind. Making her way outside through the backdoor, the brunette instantly welcomed the cool night breeze as it swept over her skin. This felt a lot better and for the first time today, Speedy felt more at ease and she wasn’t sure if she wanted to head back inside. You’re fine, Thea. You’re okay.

Usually, it wasn’t all that easy to spot someone in a big crowd, especially not within a city as large as this one. Angel made her way through the vast mass of people to get home, but despite that, she stopped dead in her tracks when she thought that she’d spotted a familiar face. Blue eyes grew wide without her being really aware of it, staring at the figure like she was frozen on the spot. The blonde swore that she’d just seen a flash of… No, that was impossible. Her husband wasn’t even here... right? And he thought that she was dead, so why would he be following her? She was truly losing it, wasn’t she? I’m going insane, I swear. What the hell is happening to me?

He was here, she was sure of it. Angel thought she’d seen her husband in the city once before, but she’d assumed she’d been hallucinating at that time. But now? No, she was definitely sure that he was here this time, but why? Did he know she was still alive? Was he looking for her? Or had he heard things from people about her not dying in that house fire and now he was on to something? Whatever it was, the moment that the metahuman spotted the man she was once so hopelessly in love with, she froze and felt her heart thumping in her throat. Blue eyes set wide as they followed his silhouette, his expression a distressed one - as if he was in a hurry and impatient. He had to be looking for something and she feared that it was her, that he was getting too close to figuring out the truth about what had actually happened to his wife. As his body turned into her direction in the distance, Angel quickly adverted her own and desperately searched for a nearby hiding spot. The door closest to her was the one she opted for, not even knowing what building she’d just entered, as long as she was out of his sight. “Oh, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to intrude or anything.”

Thea hated nights. If she wasn’t training with Malcolm, they were incredibly long. At 4 am, the streets were dead. All of the clubs were closed and not even the earliest coffee shops were open yet. Even the busiest streets were quiet at 4 am. So there she was, strolling the abandoned streets of Star City. Unlike the few drunken people that stumbled by her however, Thea was fully awake due to the fact that her nights were sleepless more often than not. That also came with the brunette feeling restless around that time, not knowing what to do with herself. Ever since she’d come out of the Lazarus pit, she just couldn’t sleep. It was a problem that she kept hidden since pity was the last thing that she wanted, so why inform people and worry them?

Roy stopped suddenly in his tracks - it felt like almost in the blink of an eye he had went from on the train to Keystone, chasing down a lead on the Vertigo dealers Rory had been looking into, and in the next he was back in Star City. How the hell was that possible? He looked around himself in confusion at the familiar streets, noting the festive lights strung up on nearly every shop front and street corner, that definitely hadn’t been there when he left.
He was dressed differently than when he left, bundled up in more layers for the winter, and it took him a moment to find the correct pocket where his phone was. “What the hell?” He exclaimed nearly dropping it at the date that blinked up at him from the home screen - December 31st 2020. It couldn’t be. He left for Keystone in August.

“It’s actually really good!” Carter mumbled around a mouthful of the mass of pastry, meat and sauce crammed into his mouth. An entire holiday roast dinner, trimmings and all, in a croissant. “Christmas markets invent the best things ever.”

Thea knew that working with Malcolm was wrong as he was vindictive and manipulative, a person that couldn’t be trusted. Yet she couldn’t help but want her father to be proud of her, something she’d failed at with Robert. He’d died when she was still so young and he hadn’t been given the chance to see Thea grow up, so was it really that bad for her to want to grab this chance with both hands and take it? How many people in life got the opportunity to start over with their father and make them proud? For months, Thea had been in Corto Maltese with her biological father, allowing him to make her a better and stronger fighter. Of course, she missed Star City and the people that she cared about more than anything - especially her brother Oliver. He probably wasn’t happy with her choice to let Malcolm train her and she expected a lecture from her older sibling now that she was back. But at the same time, Thea was hoping that the holidays would give her a bit of a free pass. Stepping out of her car after arriving back at her apartment, Thea unloaded the trunk so she could carry her stuff inside. She paused though, her grip on her suitcase tightening as she looked the building over and released a light breath. “Merry Christmas, Star City.”

“Come on, one more game. Maybe you’ll win this time.” Nyssa goaded as she flashed the notes her opponent had just handed over. She had found she was quite good at shooting pool, and it was a fun enough pass-time to keep her occupied. And it was proving at least lucrative enough to pay for her drinks.

“Thanks for letting me crash here for a little bit. It’s about time I get back to reality.” Sara nudged her foot into the jam of the door. Felicity didn’t answer questions when the sopping wet canary stood pitifully at her doorstep. “Tell Ollie that I’m only a call away if things spiral out. You know I’ll be here--right?” A rare flash of insecurity roared through her lean frame.

“You realise this is probably the least subtle way to give me orders, right?” Jason muttered lowly into the payphone. He didn’t even know the old things still worked, but apparently they did. Though he couldn’t remember the last time he saw someone using them - he had to be sticking out like a sore thumb.
“It’s a lot easier to know if my other little bird is listening in.” Talia informed him coolly, and he had to stop from rolling his eyes at the smirk he could hear in her tone. No guarantee she didn’t have eyes on him and might take offence to it. “Unless you’d prefer I pay your apartment a visit? You could properly introduce me to your little girlfriend.”
Tumblr media
He clenched his jaw tight at the threat, merely nodding before realising she couldn’t see him - or at least would keep up the facade she couldn’t. “The payphones are fine.” He muttered. “What you say goes.” He confirmed again, before folding up the hastily scribbled note of the name she had given him and tucking it safely in his breast pocket.
“Good. I will be generous with this one and give you a month, but I expect you to be quick in picking up your old training.” She advised, before he heard the soft click of the phone hanging up and the dial tone after.
He let out a frustrated sigh, placing the phone down on the receiver a little more violently than necessary, and stepping back. “Shit.” He grumbled, when he didn’t look where he was going, inadvertently knocking into someone. “Sorry.”
