I'm sorry, but your friend msbigredmachine is an incredibly disrespectful little bitch, and just not a great person at all. Hands down the most disrespectful bitch ever and the biggest pick-me fangirl. But then again, what are Roman fans good at other than being pick-mes, especially where the women are concerned? Y'all honestly give other Roman fans and female wrestling fans in general a bad name and a bad rep.Â
First off, not a good look on her part to not support a black man being world champion and wrongly accusing him of something as heinous as calling black women ugly. Especially when said black man has a wife and a daughter, who are also black.
Secondly, gotta love how she turned off her anons, because she got called for what an incredibly nasty ass bitch she was being about Liv Morgan for no reason at all, just a couple of months ago. She's the one who started it, so it should've been people blocking her ass. If the bitch can't take the heat for shit she starts, maybe she should stay the fuck out of the kitchen.
And since you're her friend, you can pass along this message to her and maybe she'll actually listen to you and react and have something to say.
you saying all of this as an anonymous person says a lot but imma keep going past that.
first of all. please donât group me in with roman pick-meâs. thatâs not what i am. if you want me to listen to what you are saying, donât attack me first. i am a fan, not a stan. thereâs a difference. you tried it, you did, but letâs continue.
and also, even if she is, let her be one, and just stay away from her blog. she not the pick-meâs that go around bullying people to my knowledge, so learn the art of scrolling past a post.
second, i donât have any information on him calling black women ugly and because im not well informed on that, im not gonna speak on it.
third, gotta love how youâre coming into my inbox to bash @msbigredmachine (anonymously might i add) instead of hashing out your problems with her instead. iâve said this many times before, i admire her as a writer. however, i donât know who that lady is, and she donât know me. i donât know why youâre coming to me in hopes to change my mind when i donât know the lady.
and i ainât gotta pass on shit. the only reason iâm responding is cause you threw me a stray in the first paragraph of your essay that you sent me. idk whatâs going on with you and her, but donât bring other people into your beef, kay? this whole message is incredibly antagonistic. you couldâve spread the message without saying all that because it seems to me like you just personally have a problem with her.
if you come in my inbox again, show who you are next time :) donât hide behind the anonymous persona the next time you wanna talk shit.

Why would people be sending political shit to tea blogs? Wtf? I saw one on SW. I don't know why they shared it, but whatever, it's their blog. Go to X and vent if you need to. This is not the place people.
SW has shared and discussed many topics outside of Bad Omens or the fandom drama before. Her own blog name isnât even Bad Omens related. âDonât know why they shared itâ? Cause itâs her blog to run how she wishes. Why would she have to vent on a certain social media platform of your choosing? So much so that you had to run to another blog to state âthis is not the placeâ?!!?! How do you not see the irony in your own statement. đ¤Śđžââď¸

Funny dream story (dream log 4: story #14)
(slightly altered do to harsh language from how mad I was that time) NOW BACK TO THIS ICE MONSTER so this seemed like a tycoon (like I have been playing like a Barbie tycoon or whatever like a Barbie Roblox game) but yeah I was like building this castle um I remember that as you build it like deeper underground I think it like changes like for the first level like it's like grass and stuff like more like summer or sum like that but the lower one below that is like icey wintery or wtv so like I think before that I like went down to like the winter (I haven't built that low yet) it was like a cliff like things beside my castle and like I jumped down there though but like I don't know if there was like supposed to be fall damage or sum but it didn't hurt or anything, well I think I jumped down I think I was like looking at it thinking like "so this is what the next level below is going to look like/be like" then I went back and it really seemed like it was like a game cause there were like pay spots like where you step on it and it like puts the item there I was doing that (like a literal Roblox game) so I was just building and there's like stairs down to the lower level so I went down the stairs and was like I think I might have saw something here it seems like I kneeled down and was like touching something I think I thought it was maybe cute or cool or something maybe it was a object I kinda wonder what it was but TELL ME WHY I ONLY HAD LIKE ONE WARNING so basically I was like kneeled down RIGHT and I like felt the ground shake or like saw it shake and I was like what was thatđ¤Śđžââď¸đ¤Śđžââď¸đ¤Śđžââď¸đ¤Śđžââď¸A BIG ASS ICE MONSTER WAS WALKING TOWARD ME now imagine if the snow monster from frozen was ice not snow but ice and fucking gigantic, now why is this monster in my castle in the first place like WHO LE- no but like I tried to run from it but it was literally right behind me and I think I couldn't even run fast enough like one footstep from him is like 5 miles for me AT LEAST like ISTG this ice monster was in my castle bro like how did you get there who let you in here like sir this is a restricted area you gotta go I woke up mad asf you have the audacity to come in my castle, CHASE ME, scare me awake AND PISS ME OFF like I'm not gone lie it did scared me but then again this is my castle like why are you here and yes I did wake up mad IMAGINE like bro the way I literally said "wtf bro" AND I WASN'T EVEN SLEEP like who are you literally, but anyways I think at one point I did go back to sleep and then ice monster was there but suddenly we was koo LIKE NOOOOO I STILL HAVE MY 2¢ like I think he like was trying to carry me or put me in places he thought I was going (like in the castle) and like he threw me in the pool, not like throw it was like I was sitting on his hand and like oh he's going to lift me up there at least I don't having to walk up the stairs and then he went the opposite way and like literally put his hand above the pool and dropped me......like excuse me, but wait i just remembered something i think he was chasing me for some snowflake thing on the top of my castle i think someone like took it off or something idk what happened there but yeah FREAKING ICE MONSTER

â ď¸ JJK MANGA SPOILERS!!! â ď¸
......DOES THIS COUNT AS HEADCANON???!!......
â ď¸
Okay so this has been on my mind ever since I caught up on the manga a couple of days ago SO...
:: Ending of Ch. 105 into Ch.106 :: You guys know how during Itadoriâs fight with Choso thereâs [what I had first assumed to be a mind trick by sukuna] a âflashbackâ with Eso, Kechizu, Choso, and ITADORI. I literally thought Sukuna was implanting false memories đ¤Śđžââď¸. But, I quickly stepped off the idea cause thatâs not his sort of tactic and later saw that even he was confused.
Choso ends up literally huddled in a corner crying...
:: Ch. 133-134 :: When he catches back up with Itadori he continues to refer to him as his âbrotherâ. Weâve seen how driven Choso is for his brothers so for him to go from a hellbent warpath to cut down itadori to saving his life and treating him like a little brother really had me thinking that there was something weird or what not behind the sudden 360.
Also in deeper into Ch. 133 we discover that Choso and his ten brothers DNA is compromised of three beings; their mother, a cursed spirit, and Kamo Noritoshi. [who also has control of Getoâs body at the moment.]
:: Ch. 142 :: Choso also asks Itadori if his father had âstitches on his foreheadâ. Keep in mind he didnât ask if it was either of his parents. So idk if Kamo thought of tgis as a diversion or a means to be under the radar by no longer having a male host(?)
:: Ch. 143 :: So then we see Itadoriâs grandfather and his dad having a conversation about a woman named Kaori, whom I believe is going to be of greater importance later on. But this dialogue is interrupted my the entrance of a woman, presumably his mother. AND SHE HAS STITCHES ON HER FOREHEAD.
This leads me to believe;
1. That Itadori being Sukunaâs vessel was predetermined. This was at all no coincidence. Whether it has something to do with his lineage or that Noritoshi took over his motherâs body, this was planned. Also take into account how Sukunaâs finger was found at Itadoriâs school??? And finding a vessel for the king of curses in plain sight seems fishy to me. ALSO Itadori can resist Sukuna even with how many fingers heâs taken in. At this point in the story heâs consumed 15 fingers.
2. I had seen something on Twitter about Sukunaâs body being split into two and had earlier assumed that Itadori was an incarnation of Sukuna, or something rather like a missing piece. Now that could be far fetched and itâs probably more along the lines of he was born with the intent of resurrecting Sukuna. Like I canât find one single thing that is leading to this being coincidental. Kamo couldnât have been like âOh, this womanâs kid is gonna look a lot like Sukuna?! Wtf?! Yeah this is the one!â WHICH LEADS TO MY THIRD THEORY WHICH KIND OF CONTRADICTS THIS ONE.
3. Or somehow Itadori IS Sukuna and just needs to consume the remainder of his fingers to awaken. Yâall hear me out first okay?... Geto, or Noritoshi, wants to get Sukuna on the side of cursed spirits. Noritoshi, who was once possibly in Itadoriâs motherâs body, wants Sukuna/the vessel of Sukuna [Itadori] to side with him and play a part in achieving his goal??? COINCIDENCE??! I THINK NOT!!!! Kamo Noritoshi took over Itadoriâs motherâs body. That is heavily implied. Wether this was before or after he was born is unknown at the moment. Though I donât know if that could have some significance? Also, Kamo being a jujutsu sorcerer gives me the feeling he couldâve had access to some âexperimentsâ or anything else, if you will, and treating Itadori as such when he was a baby. That could also explain his super human strength. Even before he was taken in by Jujutsu tech his physical power far exceeded the average human.
P.S đ¤ â¨
I also thought about Taoism and how the forces of yin and yang play into the jujutsu kaisen universe. Believe it or not the whole cursed spirit idealism mirrors it a bit. Looking at how Taoistâs believe in spiritual immortality; the indefinite continuation of the mental, physical, or spiritual existence of human beings. THE CURSED SPIRITS BELIEVE THEYâRE THE âTRUE HUMANSâ. And that once humans are gone theyâll have secured a balanced world. Itadori could be the embodiment of Yang energy since he has a yin [sukuna] but there is literally not even a speck of yang inside Sukunaâs body. đ So I donât see that part of the theory going any fckn where...
BUT THANK YOU FOR READING!!!!!!! đđžââď¸đđđđ If anybody had anything to add or take away from what I said please let me know!^^

Titans: Blackfire (3x4)
1. You should see my face with that bs opening. Jason could at least pick a guard who was gonna do real damage. But sure, lets all pretend heâs mad at Scarecrow for feeding tips to Dick and PD
2. Conner with the faded tattoos ok den! (wait is that dirt??đ)
Omg Conner did not just call himself a âfucked up half breedââŚ.
I knew he was going to take this so hard but damn bby no one was thinking that, promise đĽ´.
Also, Conner needs to realize no one was looking for him to fail. No one was looking to say I told you so. Of course I get this is all his insecurities but it makes you think if he was actually comfortable being apart of Titans. And coming at Gar who is just trying to be supportive⌠this team is a-crumblinâ. Iâm glad despite her grief, Dawn is doing her best to let Conner know that what happened to Hank is not all on him.
3. Wait Dawn is leaving?? Oh, I was NOT expecting that. Sheâs hanging it up for good? Woooooah, sheâs offering for Dick to come with her?? Excuse me?? What does she think theyâd do in Paris together??
Of course Barbara called. Boy is getting hit up by all his exs đ
4. Kory⌠girl what are you doing sis? She done burnt tf out of Garâs arm đł. I gotta see Gar tackle Kory in slow motion because WOW. I donât blame Gar for wanting Kory to keep her distance, this is like the second time Kory attacked him. đ
5. This therapist is whipped like a motherf! But Iâm glad Kory is reaching out to him. And the line about her being the one people turn to (like a mother *wink*) was gold bc itâs true. But learning about your parents death at the hands of your sister is a lot to process.
6. Of course Dick stole Scarecrow đ Where the hell is he gonna keep him??
7. The isolation chamber is indestructible huh? Good grief my boy Gar is getting it from all angles đ. They ainât protecting him enough for my liking đ âcommon sense committeeâ lmaooo. I love them both truly
8. Dick you are screwing tf out of Barbara and not the kind that ends in an orgasm.
Letâs switch things up Dick! I would love to see you ride around in a toyota prius next time!
Also⌠how does Crow know that Hank and Dick are friends also knowing Dick is Nightwing ect? Ok welp, love Crow immediately exposing his business about working with Jason this episode! Dick also knew Crow getting âambushedâ in jail was bullshit! Thank goodness! Letâs finish this shit! SeeâŚ. Jason has never been more of an annoying shit than in this moment with Crow repeating all Dickâs inside Titans business!
Jason keeps putting himself in situations that cause him to get extremely hurt or traumatized yet itâs everyoneâs fault but his. Jason fell from a building because he went out looking for Deathstroke on his own. Jason gets âkilledâ by Joker because he went out looking for him on his own. Iâm tired man. Then you cry into the arms of a villain?? This has to be the twilight zone because wtf?! Like I really felt Dick yelling at his ass at the end of the episode because this dumbass literally told Crow everything man đ¤Śđžââď¸
9. How did Blackfire even get caught??
So this containment unit gives the women no powers, chile. And how much does Kory know about this organization holding her sister? At least send her to another planet đ. I canât with the âeven though I was the bad kid and grew up to be evil, I still want someone to stick by me and my horrible decisionsâ. Komandâr is throwing all her blame on Kory and itâs soâŚ
11. Let move around because this whole Bruce is the real villain is getting old asf. And Crow trying to pray on all the bs Jason told him. Letâs pick a new story plsss.
12. The government would rather keep Komandâr in the cell before sheâs proven to be any threat (aside from what we the audience and Koryâs team know)âŚ. sounds just like the the US government to me.
13. Someone explain because iâm not seeing it and iâm on the edge of agitated and throwing my laptop across he room. Jason takes no responsibility for anything. Calling Dick Bruce? Didnât we get through this s1?? Itâs making all Jasonâs scenes so hard to watch. Even Komandâr blaming all her actions on Kory. Itâs too much bullshit.

âHey, Mom, whatâs up?â
âWhatâs up? Whatâs up are those gorgeous photos I saw on Pictagram this morning! Iâm not up 20 minutes and I have already received calls from two of my friends in DC as well as your Auntie Sherrie inquiring about them. Now, what exactly am I supposed to tell them, Tobias?â
âOh, I donât know? My son and his friend put up a beautiful tree in their condo last night, they put on some silly Santa hats and took some pictures. Isnât that hard?â
âHmmm⌠except Casey isnât exactly a friend now, is she? And donât think that doesnât come across in those pictures! Besides, last I checked I thought you lived in your condo. Now you want me to say that it is âtheirâ condo. Not that I have any problem with that.â
âOf course, you donât,â he laughed.
âHow is Caseyâs present coming along, dear? Was Hector able to help you with the restoration?â
âYes! He is a magician! Itâs almost done and the photos he sent⌠man, I put them next to the one Caseyâs dad gave me from when she was a child and, you would hardly notice the difference.â
âOh! I am so happy to hear that! Hector is a genius! If anyone could do it, it is him! Itâs so important to have the perfect gift for Casey, son. Not only for you but for me as well.â
âItâs important to you?â he chuckled.
âDonât play with me son. You know I will not rest until that lovely young woman is my daughter-in-law. She is a treasure. I am already losing patience with you for not sealing this deal. I thought I raised you better.â
âYou raised me just fine, Ma,â he laughed, âand trust me, Casey, thinks very highly of you, too.â
âI know. We text all the time. If things donât work out between the two of you two, I may adopt her and cut you loose.â
âWow. Iâm hurt.â
âOh, you know I kid. But since I am keeping you around, this begs another question. What does the man who has everything, you, want for Christmas this year?â
âI honestly donât need anything MaâŚâ
âApparently your listening comprehension skills have not improved since childhood. I didnât ask what you needed, I asked what you wanted. You are impossible to buy for! And itâs not just me asking, your beautiful girlfriend wants to know too!â
âMy girlfriend, huh,â he shook his head laughing.
âWhy are you laughing, son?â
âWell, because leave it to you to find the one thing that I donât have after all.â
____________________
âI have no idea what to get him, Si. I mean, the man has everything.â
âHe doesnât have you.â
âSienna!â
âSorry, it just seems so obvious.â
âCan you focus on the task at hand?â
âWell, you enjoy cooking together⌠or rather, you enjoy watching him cook. How about something for the kitchen?â
âNo, itâs so⌠impersonal. Plus, he already has so much. Iâm at a loss. Maybe Vivian will be able to get some answers out of him for me.â
âYou and Vivian have gotten close?â
âOh, she is amazing! Witty, sharp, takes no crap, but sheâs got this beautiful soul, a heart of gold. I wish she lived closer to here.â
âHmmm. Sounds to me like the apple didnât fall far from the tree.â
âWell, I donât think she had the scoundrel phase Tobias went through,â Casey laughed, âshe was none too pleased to hear of some of his exploits during those times.â
âYou outed him!â
âA girl has to have some fun.â
Caseyâs face fell as she took on a more serious tone. âYou know, I was unpacking a box I had left in the back of my closet the other day and⌠I came across a gift I had purchased for Ethan late in the summer, I put it away in hopes of giving it to him for Christmas. With everything,â she waved her hand dismissively, âI had forgotten about it.â
âOh, Iâm sorry Case. That must have been difficult.â
She smiled sadly. âIt was sad. It made me think about the way I thought the holidays would be this year. I thought Iâd be with Ethan, weâd be sharing his apartment,â she looked to Sienna who gave her a knowing look, âI thought weâd be engaged. My life⌠it seemed so mapped out, so certain⌠yet, look how it turned out.â
âSo, how does that all make you feel? Are you doing OK with it?â
âIt just seems surreal. Unsettling. Iâve learned in more than one way that life can turn on a dime and, it makes me scared, Si. I know that nothing in life is certain, not even life itself. Yet, on the other hand, being aware of how fleeting life, love, everything can be⌠I appreciate the things I have so much more. My health, my career, my family, my amazing friends⌠I know Iâm so blessed, even though⌠everything doesnât work out as planned sometimes.â
âWell, for what itâs worth, I think youâre doing amazing. Youâre doing what youâre supposed to do a few months back I would have never thought youâd be so festive and embracing the holiday spirit, and here you are! That says something about you, Casey!â
âYeah, it says sometimes a therapist and knowing when to go on Wellbutrin is a good idea,â Casey laughed.
âWell, yeah! That is part of it! Getting the help you need, whatever that help is.â
âWell, youâve been a big part of that help, Sienna.â She gave her friend a side-hug as they walked on. âI couldnât ask for a better friend.â
âWell, you give as good as you get there! And as your friend, itâs my job to get you back on track. What are you going to get for Tobias? Iâm assuming a boudoir photoshoot would be out of the questionâŚâ
âSienna!!!!â Casey said hitting her arm, as the two women continued their shopping.
____________________
The morning of the Edenbrook Holiday Party was always a special day. Many departments held informal luncheons, festive music played in the halls, and it seemed that every person entering the building, visitors, and staff alike, brought a tray of cookies to share. If co-workers exchanged gifts, this was the day they did it. Because of the awkwardness within the diagnostic team right now, they decided to skip their annual grab bag. Casey was the one who implemented the tradition, so seeing it go saddened her. But she had learned that life was about adjustment, the only constant was change. She refused to concentrate on the negative when there was so much good surrounding her.
She was the late person on the teamâs calendar that day, so she would not be going to the party with her friends. Sienna and Tobias both offered to stay behind so they could accompany her there, but she insisted they head off to the pre-party festivities at Donahueâs, sheâd catch up with them back at the hospital later. She smiled because that also meant she would likely have the chance to watch them in an inebriated state while she was still decidedly sober, always good for blackmail material later on!
With all the activity, the day passed by quickly. Casey returned to the teamâs office to gather her belongings before she left. She took out a large shopping bag she brought from home. Based on prior years, she knew sheâd be heading back with a small haul of trinkets from patients and staff, and she was prepared. But her heart skipped a beat when she opened it up. Ethanâs gift lay at the bottom of the bag, and she was still unsure about what to do with it. She considered leaving it on his desk anonymously, but it seemed cowardly. He would undoubtedly know it was from her and it could send the wrong message in different ways. She picked the box up, mindlessly caressing the shiny gift wrap as she contemplated what to do. Suddenly, a deep voice interrupted her thoughts.
âCasey?â
âEthan,â she jumped. âI didnâtâ think you were still here.â
âWell, I am. Iâm sorry to startle you. I thought youâd be long gone to get ready for the party tonight.â
âWell, Iâm on the late tonight. You know that.â
He shrugged. âI should have told you to go. Iâm sorry. You can head out if you like. Iâll take care of anything you need to do. Iâm not going to the party so itâs not a big deal to me.â
âOh, youâre not going?â
He looked at her from under his glasses with a sad smile. âIâm not feeling particularly festive this year.â
Casey looked down at her hands and swallowed, âWell, I⌠I hope that changes for you in the future.â
She began to put the gift back into her bag but suddenly veered course.
âEthan,â she said abruptly, âdo you have a moment?â
âFor you? Always.â
Though said with sincerity, he instantly knew his word choice was poor. Caseyâs face, which had shown slight signs of warmth just moments before, turned bitter. For you? Always. He knew he had no right to use those words with her, not after how horribly he had treated her. He considered apologizing but that might only make things worse. To his great relief, the intensity of her gaze quickly reverted to what it had been before.
âThis is a little bit awkward,â she said as she sat in front of his desk. âI bought this for you earlier this year. I planned on giving it to you on Christmas, butâŚ.â
âCasey, you donât have toâŚâ
âI wasnât sure what to do when I found it, but I think you should have it. So, her.â
She abruptly handed the gift to him as she stood to leave. âI hope you like it.â
âCasey, wait. Would you please stay while I open it?â
She let out a small breath and bit the inside of her lips.
âSure. But just for a couple of minutes. I still have to go home and get ready.â
âI promise not to keep you.â
She slumped back into her chair, immediately questioning her decision. The doors that were shut between the two of them were shut for good reason. She didnât want to open them, at least not now. She didnât know if it was the holidays that made her soft, or perhaps the look of sad desperation on Ethanâs face. He didnât deserve her empathy, not after all that had transpired, but it wasnât about who Ethan was or what he had done, it was about who she was. And she was not one to walk away from someone in need, even if it were to her own detriment. She immediately made a mental note to share with her therapist later this week. But now, she sat with a pensive look on her face as Ethan gingerly tore at the elegant wrapping.
A look of genuine shock passed over him as his jaw fell slack. For a split second, she saw something she hadnât seen in his face in a long time, not since before Louise began showing signs of regression, he appeared⌠joyful.
âCasey!â he gasped, âCasey, is thisâŚ.â
âItâs the performance of La Traviata you attended at Teatro La Fenice. I know you had always been looking for it, so IâŚ.â
âHow⌠how did you find this? I had searched for a copy for years before I finally gave up.â
âWell, you know me. I donât give up when I want something badly enough.â
Ethanâs eyes fixed on her; she was right. When she wanted something, she fought relentlessly to get it. The only reason they had a past worth remembering was because of her. She was the one who was brave, he was the one who pushed away and ran. He was the one who hurt her, but in the end, he hurt himself most of all. Now, she was moving on, and he was lost in the reality of the destruction caused by his own hand. He was finally aware, yet still afraid to take the next step to bring him to a better future. How the tides had turned, she came to Edenbrook hoping to be like him, and now, he wished more than anything that he had been like her.
âYou are right. You donât. Thank you, Casey⌠this means so much to me. I think Iâll listen to it tonight and, Iâll always treasure this.â
He stared down at the box, shutting his eyes tight to prevent tears from falling. A sadness gripped his chest and claimed his voice as his mind went to Caseyâs ring, locked away in a box in his closet. It was almost as beautiful as Casey. He had imagined this yearâs holiday party. The two of them, finally open, out together with the ring on her hand for the whole world to see. She was his, he was hers and they were meant to be. But now, it sat in a box of memories that were never to be realized, it would never see the light of day and there was only one person to blame.
Breathing felt like too great of a task and Casey noticed his distress. Part of her wanted to escape. After all, he had put her through, he had no right to expect her to be supportive. You donât get to break someone and then have them comfort you for what you have done. Yet, she could not pull herself away. So, she remained in her chair, even as it caused a tempest of emotions to stir inside her.
He decided to speak through his quivering voice.
âI had bought something for you too. I have it back at home, but⌠itâs no longer appropriate. But, I feel like I should have something to give youâŚâ
Casey lowered her eyes. She knew exactly what gift he was referring to. The memory of the day she and Sienna accidentally came across the ring flooded her mind.
âOh my God, Si, is this what I think it is?â
Sienna clasped her mouth and gasped, âI mean, it really canât be anything elseâŚâ
âOh my God, Si, I didnât do this! It was on the shelf, and when I pulled the notebook off it hit me on the head, and then it fell to the floor, and I swear to God I was not snooping!â
Sienna just stared with her hands over her nose and mouth.
âSienna, say something, what should I do. I mean, I had no idea, and now I feel so badâŚbut, Jesus does he has good taste or what?â
âGood taste?!? Casey, thatâs a 3-carat diamond with side stones, thatâs not good taste, thatâs a fucking masterpiece. OH MY GOD CASEY, heâs going to propose!â
Sure, she thought bitterly, he was going to propose. How does one go from wanting to marry her to putting her out with no place to go, when she had done nothing wrong? When all she did was love him. The excuse of âheâs damagedâ was no more than enabling, she could see that now. He had damaged her, more than once, and it had lasting effects, but she knew she had no right to take it out on others. Why did she stay? This was too painful. She needed to leave, but she wanted to do it gracefully.
âEthan, itâs not necessary. Please, donât get me anything. ButâŚ.â She trailed off.
âBut?â
âDo you understand that all I ever really wanted was for you to be happy?â she asked, her emotion evident in her voice. âEven if it was to my own detriment. Before we were together, while we were together⌠even now⌠after everything. You deserve to be free of ghosts that haunt you. You deserve to put the pain in the past and to truly live. And you could if you werenât so goddamned stubborn. You may not see it yourself right now, but youâre a good person Ethan; but, by not fixing things, youâre doing things that, theyâre wrong. You know the path to make things right for you, you know what to do. If you want to give me a gift, fix yourself, Ethan. One day, allow me to look at you and see something other than pain.â
His lack of response spoke more than any answer ever could and the discomfort in the room became to be more than Casey could bear. She wanted out. She wanted to go back to her new life, where this sort of worry didnât shroud every day. She was allowed to feel for him, she realized, but that did not mean she needed to be absorbed by it. She fought too hard to be where she was today. It was time to leave.
âWell. I really should be going. Iâm already going to be arriving late tonight, andâŚ.â
âYes, of course. Thank you again, Casey. For getting this for me, for not just throwing in the trash after all that has happenedâŚ. I will treasure it always.â
âIâm glad you like it,â she smiled sadly. âGoodbye, Ethan.â
She turned and she was gone. Once again, he watched as she walked out a door, needing to get away from him. He sat back in his chair staring in wonderment at her gift; he truly had no idea how she found thisâŚbut she was right⌠thatâs who she was. She didnât give up. He closed his eyes desperately wanting the release that tears would bring, but no matter how he tried, they would not come.

She stalled and took a final look at her reflection in the glass doors before she entered the hospital lobby. Her long blonde hair was pulled to the side, creating a cascade of loose blonde curls that skimmed down past her shoulders. Her make-up was perfectly applied, her matte lips just a shade lighter than the deep burgundy gown that hugged her every curve. She took a deep breath, suddenly nervous. Was the plunging sweetheart neckline too much for a work event? Jackie and Sienna assured her it was fine and if they said so, well, if Sienna said so, it had to be true, right? She considered paging a friend so she wouldnât have to walk in alone, and she wasnât sure why she felt that way. Or perhaps she did, after all, she had turned denial into an art form. A few moments passed and the frigid December temperatures helped push her to finally step inside.
_____
âSo, my friend, you think we can set up a little boyâs night out soon?â Bryce asked Tobias seated at the bar. âIâve barely seen you since you got married.â
Tobias gave him the side-eye.
âYou know damn well Iâm not coupled, much less married. You also know our schedules have not meshed. Youâre always welcome at my place, you never need an invite. In fact, given how much pleasure it gives me taking you down a peg or two, youâd actually be doing me a favor.â
âWell, Casey did the idea of a weekly game nightâŚ. That may be just what the doctor ordered. Speaking of doctors, here come my favorite former residents.â
âYeah, unlike you, meathead,â Jackie grinned.
âHey, Iâm quickly catching up!â
Sienna was spinning around in wonderment. Her mouth was agape as she took in the atrium twinkling lights and dangling icicles everywhere, it was a virtual winter wonderland.
âHey, Si, you OK, you look like youâre in another world?â
âYes, itâs just⌠wow, Edenbrook really outdid themselves this year! I donât think I could even make it look this good!â
âWell, thatâs highly doubtful, Sienna. You would likely have all this plus life-sized gingerbread castles scattered throughout,â Tobias chuckled.
âDelicious gingerbread castles⌠that she would prohibit us from eating until the event was over,â Raf laughed.
âOf course!â she smirked. âTheyâd be part of the dĂŠcor! But itâs hard to imagine this place looking more magical.â
Bryce turned his head toward the entrance just as Casey walked through the doors. He could tell that she was attempting to be inconspicuous, but that was an impossibility.
âHoly shit,â he said slapping Tobiasâs shoulder.
âPersonally, I thought it was impossible for the room to be any more beautiful, and, just like that, it is.â He turned to his friend with a shit-eating grin on his face, âDonât you agree, Tobias?â
Tobias hoped Bryce wasnât really expecting an answer. How could he possibly speak when his breath was taken away.
âHmmm, and there is so much mistletoe around here,â Bryce winked. âI think it is downright impossible to avoid it all night, donât you?â
Jackie giggled, âOh, itâs definitely impossible to miss it! I am meandering around it right now to avoid being forced to kiss you, Lahela.â
Bryce flashed his bright smile, and placed a kiss on Jackieâs cheek, âThere! Now all of your dreams have come true. A holiday miracle!â
âICK!â Jackie exclaimed wiping her cheek, âMore like The Nightmare Before Christmas!â
âHey, T. You can look in another direction you know,â Bryce laughed.
âTobias, what gives, you have a thing for Casey?â Raf asked.
âAlways quick on the uptake, arenât you,â Jackie said rolling her eyes. âHey, Casey! Over here.â
Tobias quickly averted his gaze. He did not want her to catch him looking like a lovesick teenager. After all this time, Bryce still had to shake his head. T. His good friend T, who normally had the worst pick-up lines, but when delivered with such confidence and his seductive smile, they worked every time. Yet when it came to Casey, he was rendered to being a speechless seventh-grade boy with a crush on the prettiest girl in the class. His friend had it bad, and it wasnât showing any signs of changing.
âHey, guys!â Casey said hugging each of her friends. âThis place looks incredible tonight!â
âIt sure does,â Bryce said jovially grinning at Tobias. âWould you like a drink? Weâre all a few steps ahead of you?â
âSure, come on, Iâll walk you to the bar.â
Bryce, Sienna, and Jackie all turned and stared at Tobias in unison, each with smirks on their faces. Jackie & Siennaâs arms folded blatantly in front of their chests.
âWhat?!?â He said, startled.
âIf you donât do something tonight, I will lose any and all respect for you. Now, granted, thatâs not much, but youâre in danger of going into the negatives,â Bryce announced.
âI mean, maybe not in front of the whole place,â Sienna advised, âwe are still at a work event, but there are plenty of little alcoves you can veer off into and you have us willing to cover for you.â
âMmmm,â Bryce quickly swallowed his drink, âor, you can always remember something you need to discuss with her back in the office.â
âAnd we all know what happens in offices during holiday parties,â Jackie said as Bryce gave her a high five.
âIâm always surrounded by freaking comedians,â Tobias said gulping his drink.
âExcept, no one is laughing,â Jackie sneered.
âWell, as fun as this is, Iâm going to go talk to that cute nurse from cardiology. T, watch and learn!â
âIâm going to see some of my co-workers in peds too, I will be back shortly. And there will be dancing!â
âThat leaves you and me, T!â
âJackie, you have no idea how much that frightens me.â
âYou and Lahela are both so scared of me! Well, I guess someone has to keep the two of you in line.â
âHey, well I donât mind helping with that!â Casey said as she slid into a barstool next to them.
âWell, this is just my lucky night! Flanked by the two most beautiful women here. I donât know what you did to deserve this.â
âApparently not a damn thing, because thatâs Harper motioning for us to come over,â Jackie said.
âUs? How do you know that doesnât include me?â
âBecause she told me she wants to introduce me and Casey to the woman sheâs speaking to. She is the director for the American Womenâs Medical Association. Unless youâre interested in joining?â
âNah, Iâm good here with my beer,â he laughed.
The party was still filling up, and the DJâs assistant was making her way around asking attendees if theyâd like to make a request.
âHey,â she said smiling flirtatiously as she eyed Tobias up and down, âanyone special youâd like to make a dedication to tonight?â
âNo, but thank you.â
âHmm⌠Iâm honestly pleased to hear that. But, if you should change your mind, you know where to find me,â she winked.
Tobias shook his head and returned to his beer, intently watching Casey across the room. She was smiling, flipping her head back as she laughed. God! She was just magnificent. He was never going to get over her but was he ever going to try to make it more. He tapped his fingers loudly on the bar then jumped out of his seat. He hadnât realized that Jackie and Casey had moved across the room, not far from the DJ booth where he was heading with intent.
âHey,â he said tapping the DJâs assistant on the shoulder.
âHey!â She smiled enticingly.
âI uhm. I changed my mind; I do want to dedicate a song to someone.â
âOh,â she said, her face dropping a bit. âWhatâll it be.â
He stood in contemplation as if the fate of the world depended on his selection.
âTo Make You Feel My Love, Adeleâs version,â he smiled confident with his decision.
âOh, thatâs far too deep for it to be for me, damn it,â she grinned.
âYeah, no sorry about that,â he chuckled.
âWell, who is the lucky person we should send this out to?â
He hesitated.
âOr do you merely want to say who it is from, and let him or her guess?â
âYou know what, just say this is going out to someone special, from someone who is still not able to admit it.â
âOh! Donât let that go on forever,â she advised. âLifeâs too short to miss out on a good thing, no matter where it takes you. But, Iâll do my part to nudge you in that direction. Iâve got this.â
âThanks.â
As he turned and walked away, Casey stood next to Jackie, panicked by what she just heard.
âHoly fucking shit, Casey!!! You know that was for you!! Oh my God! Where is Sienna? We have to tell her.â
âNo, Jackie, you will do no such thing! We⌠we donât even know if that was for me.â
Jackie looked at Casey with disgust. âDo I need to call the reality police for you? It was for you. Your ass totally better go snag him for a dance when that comes on⌠or I swear, I will kick yourâŚâ
âHi, Naveen! Iâve been looking for you!â Casey beamed, as she raised her eyebrow at Jackie. She had her out.
_____
Jackie marched off to find her friends. She found Bryce, Sienna, and Raf sitting at a table next to the dance floor.
âBryce, what are you doing here?â she asks, âDid you crash and burn that quickly?â
âShe got back with her ex,â he shrugged.
âLikely story! Anyway, we have a mission if we choose to accept it, and Iâm telling you now, you all choose to accept it if you know whatâs good for you.â
âJackie! Slow down, youâre frantic! Whatâs going on?â Raf asked.
âTobias just dedicated a song to Casey! Not only song, a freaking sickeningly romantic song!â
Sienna covered her mouth and gasped. Bryceâs head fell into his hands. Rafâs jaw dropped.
âOh, I guess we should get you up to speed Raf. Tobias is madly in love with Casey. And Casey has it bad for Tobias, but theyâre never going to get together because theyâre both idiots. So, this is pretty big news,â Bryce explained.
âYes and no,â Jackie inserted.
âIt can never be easy, can it?â He said throwing his hands in the air.
âNope, Bryce, it canât. So, he dedicated a song to her, but not by name, it will go out to âsomeone specialâ from âsomeone who isnât ready to say yetâ or some shit like that.â
Bryce shook his head in disgust.
âWhen all this is all out, I am so kicking his ass just for coming up with that shit.â
âIâll help you!â Jackie agreed. âBut for now, letâs get the morons to dance to the song together.â
âHow do we do that?â Raf asked.
âWell, Casey knows.â
âWHAT?!â Sienna gasped, âHow does she know.â
âBecause we accidentally overheard him talking to the DJ! But of course our brilliant but dense friend isnât sure itâs for her.â
Bryce jumped to his feet. âWho the F does she think it is for?!?!â
âShhhhh!,â Sienna chided, âWhat song, Jackie?â
âTo Make You Feel My Love.â
âOh my God, Iâm going to cry!â
âSienna, so help me God if you doâŚ.â
âWell, Jackie, it is a little emotional.â
âThank you, Raf.â
âCAN WE SKIP TO THE SUBJECT!!!!â Jackie yelled drawing attention from other partygoers.
Bryce was still shaking his head. âHow does she not see this is her?â
âI donât know if itâs that she doesnât, or itâs that she is afraid to,â Sienna answered.
âNone of that matters!!! We have to get them to dance! Whatâs our game plan.â
âI can shame Tobias when the time comes,â Bryce offered.
âAnd I can coax Casey,â Sienna chimed.
âI can watch them to make sure neither tries to leave the room when the song comes on,â Raf added.
âI can do that too⌠I am also happy to threaten one or bothâŚâ
âThat may be too direct. OK set up a group text among the four of us so we are on it. Operation Letâs End This Shit Already is underway!â Bryce grinned.

Upstairs Ethan had yet to leave his office. After Casey left, he sat thinking for a good, long time. Her parting words hit hard. The best gift would be healing himself. For three years he denied her everything: confirmation, legitimacy, truth. He didnât give her what she so fully deserved, his time, his attention, his undying love. It took her near death for him to even begin to make those strides and, when he finally surrendered, he wanted to give her the world. But looking back, the only thing he should have given her is what she asked for tonight, healing himself. By not doing that, everything they had was built like a house of cards it was only a matter of time before the wind came and knocked it all down.
He couldnât leave the building because he knew sheâd be coming back. The desire just to be near was insatiable. He knew she didnât want it and he knew if he wanted so much as friendship from her it would be best for him to lay back right now. That bit of interaction today was a step in the right direction, it was more than he deserved. He shouldnât overstep.
Yet, he walked to the closet and slipped on the suit jacket and fresh tie he kept there, just in case there was an emergent board meeting or unexpected VIP visitor. I just want to be near her. I wonât talk to her. He changed his shoes. I wonât engage at all. Slipped on the fresh jacket. Iâll linger on the sides. I just want to see her. He promised himself, yet even as he did, he knew it was a lie.
He stood in a corridor, watching from a distance. The party was now filled with revelers, so it was next to impossible to spot her. He moved inside and lingered around the perimeter, honestly, not too far from where he would normally be found during an event like this. Well, at least until there was Casey. He found a dark, quiet spot near the staff entrance. It offered him a good vantage point where he could watch unobstructed. But he still never caught sight of her.
This is ridiculous. I need to go home.
Then, there she was. Across the room speaking with Naveen and Dr. Tanaka. She was a vision. Talking to Naveen and Dr. Tanaka, afforded him the easiest possible way for him to walk over and segue into the conversation. But he knew he shouldnât. He knew sheâd probably scurry away. He found his left leg glued to the floor, and the right wanting to run to her. He didnât know which one would when the tap came to his shoulder.
âHi,â Harper said handing him a glass of scotch. âI never see you at one of these things without one in your hand. I figured you havenât made your way to the bar because youâre over here acting like a creepy stalker. So, I thought Iâd lend a friend a hand.â
He was caught. âThank you,â he smiled.
âNow,â she said tugging his arm, âletâs go find a table. Because you need a talking to, and as a friend who loves you, I am not taking no for an answer.â
She commandeered a small cocktail table in a secluded corner.
âWhat are you doing?â
âWhat does it look like Iâm doing? Iâm attending the hospitalâs holiday party, why are you acting like itâs such an anomaly.â
âBecause youâre not attending it, youâre lurking. You were quite clear that you werenât coming this evening. Yet, here you are, standing at the staff entrance hell bend on⌠on⌠onâŚâ
Ethan had completely tuned her out. She turned and followed his gaze. Of course, there she was.
âEthan,â Harper said snapping her fingers in front of his face.
âWhat?â
âYou didnât hear a word I said, did you?â
âOf course, I did! You said⌠you said⌠you⌠OK, I never heard a word you said.â
âWhat are you doing, Ethan? You know damn well this is not healthy.â
âItâs notâŚâ he stopped, snorting, he shook his head.
Harper turned around once again. Tobias had joined Casey & Naveen, and even Harper could see the change in Caseyâs demeanor after he arrived. She softened, her eyes were aglow, and her smile was brighter, it was impossible to miss. Harper had seen it before, it was the way Casey used to be when she was around Ethan.
âEthan, I hate to say this to you, but you have to let go. I canât tell you to fight for her because, I canât lie, what you did to her was too cruel. I know she is being very admirable and trying to establish a good working relationship with you, but you honestly have no right to push for more. That is something that only she can decide to do if she ever wants to.â
âYou think I donât know that? Why do you think Iâm lurking in corners, or even sitting here with you? I just to get a glimpse of her,â he sighed deeply. âThen, what do I see, her beaming next to Tobias. Youâre one hundred percent right, Harper. This isnât healthy and if I saw anyone else doing this, Iâd be the first to tell them.â
âWell,â she said smiling, âthere you go. In some places they would say that you just took the first step, Ethan, Iâm proud of you.â
âTobias told me heâs in love with her.â
Harpers eyes widened and she put down her drink.
âReally? Iâm shocked he was so candid!â
âYou knew?â
âI have eyes.â
âThen your eyes must also tell you that it appears she returns his feelings.â
Harper turned again. Though they stood at least a foot away from one another, there was no denying the aura that surrounded them.
Harper reached across the table and tenderly touched Ethanâs hand.
âDo you still love her?â
âNo,â he lied.
She saw right through him but knew better than to challenge him right now.
âThen move on. She appears to be doing that. You told me thatâs what you wanted. And, for what itâs worth, try to take solace that it is with Tobias. You know heâs a good man; heâd treat her well, I donât think heâd hurt her, and I know you donât want to see her hurt anymore.â
âIâm sure some people would have said the same things about me,â he smirked.
âValid point.â
âThank you.â
âHey, I told you, I will always be honest. I know weâve all told you that you should talk to a therapist, Iâm not going to foolishly waste my breath on it anymore, but you know itâs true. I just hope you come around to see it.â
He looked down into his drink, not saying a word.
âWhy donât you go home, Ethan. If you want, Iâll even get out of here with you, grab a cup of coffee, if it will help.â
âThanks for the offer, but I think I should get going, alone. This wasnât a good idea.â
She smiled warmly, âIâm always a phone call away.â
Ethan stood up and began to make his way across the crowded room. His plan was to head directly to the exit, until he saw Casey standing at the bar waiting for a drink, alone. His head told his feet not to change their trajectory, to head to the door as planned; but his foolish heart was in control.
She would have been here on my arm tonight. There is no question of that. She would have my ring on her hand. She was my Casey. What the hell did I do!
He was no more than three feet away from her when she turned with a drink in hand and a bright smile on her face. That smile fell the moment she saw him approaching her. He knew he should walk away. He didnât.
âEthan? Oh. I thought you said you werenât coming tonight?â
âI had a change of heart.â
âThatâs good,â she said taking a gulp of her drink. âI, uhm⌠you should get out, you know⌠itâs good for you.â
âWell,â he chuckled ruefully, âthe jury is out on that. But Iâm giving it a shot.â
She smiled politely, as her eyes darted around the room. Someone had to be around, there was someone she could say she had to talk to.
âCasey, you look absolutely beautiful tonight. Honestly, youâre just radiant.â
He could see the discomfort on her face grow into vexation.
âEthan⌠you⌠IâŚâ she stopped herself after stumbling on her words. She started again, she didnât want to be harsh, but she needed to be clear. âThank you, but I really donât think that is appropriate for you to tell me that right now. You have to understandâŚ.â
âI know. Iâm sorry. I am out of line. But there was no way I could leave here tonight without telling you and, now that I have, Iâll take my leave. Please, go. I hope you enjoy the rest of your night.â
She eyed him uncomfortably, then walked off without a word. He stood and watched as she walked away, and he realized, that was now his role to play. He felt a hand tug on his jacket.
âHey, you look like you could use a friend,â Floria smiled gently up at him.
âWhat I could use is a stiff drink⌠or ten.â
âWell, there is a bar right there,â she pointed.
âYeah, well, I think if I stay here, that ten could easily become twenty, so Iâm going to check out.â
âWe could walk over to Donahueâs. Iâm sure it will be empty with everyone here and, honestly, I think you may be better drinking with a friend tonight. What do you say?â
âWith a friend?â
âYes, with a friend. So, would you like some company.â
âSure. Why not,â he smiled, and they walked together toward the door just as Casey shot a look back over her shoulder.
âHEY!â
âAhhh,â Casey jumped. âJackie! What the hell are you doing, trying to give me a heart attack.â
âWell, if youâre going to have one, this is the place to do it. But youâre looking too damn fine for that, so come on, why donât you get out on the dance floor with me girl, I havenât seen you all night.â
âYou know what,â she said placing her empty drink on a table, that sounds delightful! Letâs go!â
âThatâs what Iâm talking about!â
Sienna and Bryce watched them from the bar.
âAre you thinking what Iâm thinking?â Sienna grinned.
âHell yeah! RAF! Get your ass over here, itâs time for this crew to get the party started.â
Tobias returned from the menâs room and saw the five of them cutting up the dance floor. He smiled seeing them all so happy, but, of course, his eyes stayed on Casey. She was beaming, she threw her head back laughing, the exact same way she did the very first time that he realized that he loved her. She was living with him, he worked with her and, still, on some days, it was hard to believe she was real. He decided to head to the bar, where he sat and watched them, careful not to make eye contact. Yeah, he was part of the crew, but they were all the OGâs, and he felt they deserved some time alone. Eventually, Bryce took a seat next to him, while Raf and the women continued laughing on the floor.
âLadies and gentlemen,â the DJâs voice came blaring through the speakers, âwe have our final dedication of the night and, oooh, itâs a heartfelt one for sure!â
Casey looked like a dear in the headlights as she locked eyes with Jackie.
âIt appears someone has a secret admirer⌠this is being sent out to someone very special, from a guy who is just not ready to tell you yet⌠oh, come on man! Itâs the holidays! This place is full of mistletoe! Take it from me, never give up a day you can be missing out on love. And I am not just saying that because Iâm available for weddings by the way!â
The crowd rumbled with soft laughter as Jackie took Caseyâs hand.
âPlease, Casey. Go dance with him.â
She looked over to Tobias at the bar, he and Bryce had their backs to her.
Bryce tilted his head, âYou canât tell me that wasnât you.â
âI donât have to tell you anything.â
âGo ask her to dance. You went this far, take that step.â
Tobias turned around and saw her as Jackie pleaded with her on the dance floor.
âNah, man. I donât thinkâŚâ
âWow, and this guy picked a beauty,â the DJ finished, âsomeone has some real feelings going on, to that special person, here is Adeleâs âTo Make You Feel My Loveâ.â
The first chords of the began to play and the remaining couples began to flock to the floor, all except the one the song was intended for.
âWhen the rain is blowing in your face And the whole world is on your case I could offer you a warm embrace To make you feel my loveâ
âCasey, please,â Jackie begged, still holding her hand, âplease, you know itâs for you! I know what you feel for him! Go ask him.â
âWhen the evening shadows and the stars appear And there is no one there to dry your tears I could hold you for a million years To make you feel my loveâ
Bryce shook Tobiasâs shoulder.
âBro, youâve been in love with her forever. This is not going to go away. Donât miss this moment, T⌠go!â
âI know you haven't made your mind up yet But I would never do you wrongâ
âOK, if you donât ask him, then I am. And do you really want to watch me dancing with your manâŚâ
âHeâs not my manâŚâ
âHe could be!â
âI've known it from the moment that we met No doubt in my mind where you belongâ
âIf you donât ask her, I amâŚ.â
âBryce, I justâŚ.â
âTobias,â Jackie interrupted, as she shot Bryce a look, âwould you dance with me?â
âI'd go hungry, I'd go black and blue I'd go crawling down the avenueâ
Bryce saw Casey pushing her way through the crowd.
âExcuse me,â he said running off in her direction.
Jackie turned to Tobias, âYou know I wonât take no for an answer. Better to just give in.â
âFine, he sighed,â
âNo, there's nothing that I wouldn't do To make you feel my loveâ
âYouâre dancing with me!â Bryce said grabbing Caseyâs hand at the edge of the dance floor.
âWhat, IâŚâ
âI said youâre dancing with me, come on!â
Jackieâs eyes met Bryceâs and implored him to move closer. He spun Casey around to face him just feet away.
âThe storms are raging on the rolling sea And on the highway of regretâ
Jackie and Bryce maneuvered so Casey and Tobias would be forced to see each other. After a couple failed attempts, their eyes locked. Bryce felt Caseyâs breath hitch. Jackie noticed the split second when Tobias stopped moving. Case smiled, softly, nervously in his direction and Tobiasâs eyes said all he could not bring himself to say.
âThough winds of change are throwing wild and free You ain't seen nothing like me yetâ
âGo cut in. Please, Tobias,â Jackie whispered.
âCasey, youâre too smart not to see it. Go to him.â
âJackie, IâŚâ
âBryce, IâŚâ
âI could make you happy, make your dreams come true Nothing that I wouldn't do Go to the ends of the Earth for you To make you feel my love To make you feel my loveâ
â⌠I canât.â
â⌠I canât.â
Tobias lowered his head and quickly made his way off the floor. Jackieâs shoulders dropped in defeat.
Casey turned to walk away, but Bryce grabbed her arm.
âNo. Youâre coming with me,â he said leading her to a side door.
âBryce, what are you doing!â Casey demanded as the cold December air assaulted them.
âCasey, what are you doing? I canât keep quiet anymore. Iâve been watching him for seven months nowâŚ.â
âSeven months? What⌠what are you talking about?â
âTobias! Casey, youâre brilliant! Youâre a freaking diagnostician, you have to see it. He is crazy about you, donât you see?â
âI⌠IâŚâ
âDo you feel the same way about him? Because itâs time. Itâs time to make it clear that you do, or itâs time to make it clear that you donât. You canât leave him on pause like this forever Casey.â
âWhat... what⌠Bryce, you said seven months. What are you talking about? Seven months ago I was with Ethan, and Tobias, he was all hung up on some woman that didnât⌠that sheâŚ.she didnâtâŚ.â
She covered her mouth and gasped.
âYes, he was madly in love with someone.â
âBryce? Bryce, no! SheâŚshe⌠wasnât me? Was she?â
He let out a deep sigh, taking her hand in his.
âCasey, I feel like Iâm betraying him right now. But youâre both my friends, and this has gone on too long. You share a home; I donât want to see this implode⌠so⌠yes. Yes, Casey. Itâs you. He is so in love with you, I have never seen anything like it.â
She stood in stunned silence as tears began to fill her eyes.
âCasey. Say something.â
âWhy, why didnât he ever tell me?â
âWell, for one thing, you were happily involved with someone else. Someone heâs friends with. He would have never interferedâŚ.â
âBut we were so close, and weâd go places and⌠we talked about herâŚ.â
âHe never wanted to lose your friendship, Casey. Even after you and Ethan were apart. He never wanted to take advantage of you, and heâs petrified of losing you. He didnât want to fall for you, but he did. We canât help these things. But he has the right to be happy to Casey, and pining after you forever isnât going to let him achieve that. The two of you, you need to get some resolution here. Do you have feelings for him?â
âYes,â she whispered, âI do.â
âThen tell him!â Bryce said frustrated, âI know you keep thinking itâs impossible that he feels that way about you, well, that barrier is gone. Iâm telling you what he feels for you. So, for heavenâs sake Casey, whatâs so hard! Why canât you tell him?â
âBecause I love him, Bryce!â She cried, âI love him. If I had to count on one hand the people in this world who mean the absolute most to me, heâd be on it. I never want to hurt him, and I never want to be hurt by him,â she began to sob. âBryce, he means too much to me.â
Casey was shivering as she attempted to wipe away her tears. Bryce pulled her into a hug, rubbing her arms to warm them.
âCasey, come here. Come here. Come on, no tears.â
He took his jacket off and placed it around her shoulders.
âCasey,â he said as she stared at her feet.
He lifted her chin. âCasey, look at me.â
âCasey, no day is promised to any of us. And, in the end, the only thing we will regret is the chances we didnât take. Sure, there are no guarantees, it could not work out. We didnât work out but look at us here now. Have some faith that if it doesnât work, youâd still be OK. But⌠CaseyâŚ. youâre so busy focusing on what will happen if it doesnât work⌠but just imagine, what happens if it does?â
Casey looked at Bryce and nodded, emotion overwhelming her.
âSo, what are you going to do?â
âIâm going to go ask him to dance,â she said handing him back his jacket. âIâm going to ask him to dance.â
âAtta girl! Now go quick, the party is almost over!â
âI am,â she said jogging off in her high heels.
Bryce sighed as he leaned back against the brick wall.
âIf these two make it and I am not the best man, Iâll freaking kill them both,â he laughed out loud.
Casey entered the atrium and scanned the crowd for Tobias. People were leaving, but it was still very full. She didnât see him, and her frustration was mounting. The DJ would be leaving soon, and she knew herself well enough to know that if she didnât take this chance now, she would lose her nerve. She had to find him. After several more minutes passed, she saw him. He was by himself, leaning back on two legs of a chair in a back corner. He looked defeated. She nervously brushed off the front of her gown before approaching him. He leaned upright and smiled timidly as she neared.
âHey, Iâve been looking for you. Where have you been?â
âI just stepped outside for some fresh air. Then I decided I needed some quiet, so I crashed here. No biggie.â
âI saw you dancing with Jackie before.â
âYeah. I saw you dancing with Bryce,â he grinned. âI mean, she asked me, and sheâs pretty persistent. You donât⌠you donât mind, do you?â
âOh, God, no! Of course not, itâs justâŚ.â
âJust?â
âI had kind of hoped that Iâd get a chance to dance with you tonight as well. Do I need to be equally as persistent?â
âNo, not you, Casey. All you have to do is ask, and I believe you just did.â
âI did,â she said, biting her bottom lip.
He rose to his feet and extended his hand, âThen, may I have this dance?â
âYes, you can.â
She took his hand and followed him to the now much smaller crowd on the dance floor, a slow ballad was winding down. They turned to each other with almost petrified grins on their faces. She threw her arms around his neck and momentarily stared down at his chest. His hands found their way to her lower back, oh, how he wanted to brush that soft velvet, but there was no way that was happening. Casey looked back up and smiled at him as they began to softly sway to the music. No words were spoken and then, the song reached its end.
âAnd thatâs it for this evening Edenbrook family. I hope you all had a wonderful night! Now, there are taxis outside for those who need them, and you be safe getting home. Happy Holidays!â
âAre you freaking kidding me!â Casey exclaimed jumping back from Tobias. âUGH. Thatâs what I get,â she said shaking her head.
âHey, Case, itâs ok, we can,â he stopped as a loud noise came from his pocket. âAh, shit!â He pulled out his phone, âJesus!â
âWhat is it?â
âMr. Cortez heâs out of surgery but there were complications. They want me to come up right away.â
âNo! Not now!! Do you want me to come?â
His face grimaced in frustration as he shook his head.
âNo. No, hon, this one could be an all-nighter. Why donât you get a car home?â
Casey lowered her eyes almost crying.
âI guess. Are you sure? I donât mind waiting up for you, ifâŚâ
He brushed her cheek. âJust go home and get some sleep, Casey. Iâll see you in the morning.â
âGood night, T,â she smiled as she let out a soft breath.
âGood night, Casey. I really better go.â
âI know, I know⌠go ahead.â
Casey watched Tobias as he jogged down the hall. What, she wondered, do we do now?
