cause ultimately what's frying me about this is the fact that all these actors and actresses up there and the author and director are the types to talk about how much representation matters and how important casting is for a group of people. Until it comes to Africans I guess.
Everyone's got the concept but not the key words. This is racism and afrophobia. It's very VERY much colorism with That actress there, but getting non-africans to cosplay Nigerians and non-nigerians to do the same? Racism and Afrophobia. There's a certain way that all of Hollywood devalues and ignores African/Nigerian talent and genuinely believes that our actors and performances and CULTURES are interchangeable. You can see it with the accents, too -- which are about to be atrocious, by the way. And part of the reason why they'll be bad is because they don't value Nigerian voices. And they think of the entire continent of Africa as some monoculture where you don't have to differentiate or respect the people within because ultimately it's all kinda the same, isn't it? You can blend Nigerian with southern African and even eastern African accents because there's not reaaaalllly a big difference, is there? It's alllll kinda the same, isn't it?
Afrophobia and racism (and colorism). Afrophobia, racism, colorism.
