I just found out that many cat shows have a "household pet" division where you don't even need a fancy purebred, you can just enter whatever random cat you have, and the judge will agree that they are pretty and nice and give you a little ribbon.

in warrior cats, female cats are called she-cats. male cats are correctly called toms. males can also be called sires in relation to their kittens.

in real life, a female cat is called one of three terms: a queen, a molly or a dam. she-cat is a made up term, im not sure why.

a queen is mainly a breeders term, for females who are pregnant, nursing or the main breeding female of their cattery. a queen is usually only temporarily called a queen.

a dam, similar to sire and queen, is a breeding term. a dam refers to a cats (or other animals) mother. my kittens dam was a stray. generally, the only time you call animals a dam or sire is when youre talking about their babies.

molly is a general term for all female cats. i repeat. ALL. FEMALE. CATS. they dont start or stop being mollys when theyre spayed, they dont stop being mollys when they have kittens, they are always a molly. end of story

SHE-CAT IS NOT A REAL TERM. IT IS NOT. i understand using it (i do too) but as soon as youre out of battle cat world, you sound insane. if youre worried molly wont resonate, female cat!! mollys not a super common term. but she-cat is like calling toms he-cats. its weird. its just weird.

i am forever and constantly petty about this. it makes me so angry. you literally dont have to use molly. but if youre talking about a real life cat (or god forbid youre at a catshow or breeders event) do. not. use. she-cat.
