Ikemen Prince - Leon x Carina

Written for the Country Radio Challenge by @candied-boys, inspired by the song/prompt Fishin' in the Dark

I finally managed to write something. It's quite simple, but it's been a while so just the fact I finished it is a victory, but I hope I'm not that rusty 😅

Words: 904

Carina took a deep breath and reclined against Leon’s back. She tried to move her legs a little without rocking the boat too much, so she wouldn’t disturb Leon if he was actually having better luck with fishing on his side of the boat.

Not that she expected him to.

How long had they been sitting there? Well, certainly from before the sun set. It was pretty dark now.

She didn’t mind, of course. The apparent monotony of fishing, or even the dark, but their little adventure had been so unfruitful that it was starting to wear her down.

“Tired already?” Leon asked, stretching behind her.

“I just need a new position. I almost don’t feel my legs.”

“If you want to go home, we can call it a night.”

“I don’t mind staying a little longer, but we might as well. Who told you this was the best time for fishing, anyway?”

“Luke.”

Well, Luke usually knew what he was talking about. Although he was the other boys’ half-brother as well, he wasn’t raised on the same world-renomed ranch as the others. He was more of a simple boy.

Leon was the only other one who appreciated the simple things like these. Who had a similar spirit of adventure as Carina herself.

“Then we might just have had bad luck. Maybe we shouldn’t have brought that special bait after all.”

“We wouldn’t know until we tried, would we? Maybe we should ask Luke for tips on bait next time, too.”

“Maybe.”

Carina cast her line in again, determined to have one last attempt, but when the minutes started to tick, she yawned, and couldn’t bear the silence anymore.

“You know, I had a dream of us last night.” She prompted in a low tone.

“Another naughty idea?”

“Hey! I don’t just have that kind of dream!”

Leon laughed.

“Sorry. I was just teasing.”

Catina turned a little and punched his arm playfully, which only prompted Leon to laugh harder. Fishing was quickly forgotten.

“I dreamt you were a king, and I was a princess from another country, but we used to sneak out at night, like we do here.”

“Certain things wouldn’t change, even in other universes.”

Both of them laughed, and they put their fishing rods away finally. This trip had been a total bust, but it was fun.

Carina yawned. Not fishing was surprisingly tiring, even if she had slept enough during the day, knowing they would be awake well into the night.

If they were actually fishing something.

“Ready to go home?” Leon asked.

“Can’t we sleep somewhere around here? Too tired to walk all the way home.”

“You know we didn’t bring our camping gear, love. Do you need me to carry you?”

She only hummed distractedly in response. It would be nice, but all the way home was a little too much.

“Is that a yes or a no?” Leon laughed again, turning around and making the boat rock and causing Carina to have to pull away. Then he wrapped his arms around her from the side.

She only hummed incoherently back. Her brain was suddenly so tired that thinking up words was difficult.

Leon laughed, and the boat rocked as he moved again, scooping her up.

That put a little of life back on her. Why was Leon standing up on an unsteady boat and picking her up? But before she could find words to ask, he was already jumping into the lake.

The water was cool enough to feel good on a summer night and actually wake her up.

Carina gave Leon an annoyed look at first, but she couldn’t keep it for long and both of them burst into laughter.

She splashed him, and Leon pulled her closer by the waist, running a hand through her hair.

“I had a dream once, too. More of a nightmare, actually. You were a beautiful mermaid. But you also were someone else’s girlfriend.”

“Who’s girlfriend?”

“Silvio.”

“Yeah, sounds like a nightmare. Why would you dream of something like that?”

Silvio was the son of the richest farmer in the country. He was from another city, but often came around on business. And as far as Carina knew, he was a total jerk.

“It was before we got together. I was really afraid your parents would arrange your marriage to someone else.”

“Even if they tried, I would have found a way out. Especially if it was to someone like that.”

“Well, maybe there is more to Silvio than you know,” Leon teased.

Carina splashed him again, and with a playful chuckle, dove into the lake and started swimming away.

Leon laughed as well and dove after her, the two playing chase around the lake. He had become a good swimmer, but Carina was just faster.

Still, he caught her up already near the shore, pulling her closer and kissing her.

“Do I get a wish granted if I catch a mermaid?”

“I think it’s fairies or gnomes who grant wishes when caught. But I can think about it when we get home.” This time, she kissed him.

They had to swim back to get their boat, then row to the shore and walk home while dipping wet but cuddling together, so they didn’t mind at all.

Sariel, catching the two trying to sneak back into the ranch, was another story.

But even that was another adventure for them.

So here’s that new OC I’ve been talking about.

As you can see, I have a type. She has white hair and a stoic personality.

“Seriously Pastell? It’s getting repetitive!”

The art is very unfinished. The art is meant to be her magical girl wear, and not her everyday (civilian) wear. However, her civilian wear would still give off a similar formal masculine vibe, but without the gears and heavy steampunk aesthetic and such.

Anyway...

Her name is Margot LaRoche, she is 22 years old and in college. Her birthday is January 1st. She’s Creole. She lives in (the Whimsica equivalent of) Louisiana. She is a literature and linguistics major, she’s bilingual and speaks English and French. She loves books and literature, is serious, somewhat strict, and shy and awkward. She is quite insecure about being perceived as bookish and dull, and often wishes she were more outgoing and lively, or perhaps even a different person altogether.

She stands at 5’7” and has a slim and moderately curvy physique, medium brown skin with freckles (not pictured here), light ash-beige hair (more of an off-white), indigo eyes, and a trademark monocle on her left eye (which from our perspective, is on her right.)

Since this is the fantasy world of Whimsica, Margot is friends with a talking owl named Slumber. Slumber is a very book-smart owl, yet he is also scatterbrained and clumsy. Slumber is one of the few people (or should we say creatures) who understands Margot, and often gives her advice on making friendships.

(It is rumored that) Margot sometimes writes her own poems and short stories. However she is too insecure to share them with people. Could the topic of her works possibly be love?

In her second year of college, Margot met a friend named Catina. Catina is Mexican, with Mayan heritage. She around the same skin tone as Margot. She’s tall, at 5’10”, athletic, kind of hot-headed, scatterbrained, yet she’s very wise and is a considerate and loving person. Catina is also a cat fauna. (Basically a catgirl. Hey, this is Whimsica after all.) She has the ears and tail and some traits of a jaguarundi, a medium-sized wild cat found in Central America. Catina also is a lesbian, and has a bit of a crush on Margot.

Margot is bisexual herself. Her ethnic roots are from France, Haiti, West Africa, and she has a bit of Native American in her as well.

Margot is a very kind person, though people are usually turned off by her blunt mannerisms and stiff facial expression. People have described the look in her eyes as “scary and strict-looking.”

Margot harbors a somewhat hidden love of animals, especially cats.

Margot’s favorite food is cheesecake.

Margot once roasted someone who was picking on Catina, and hitting on her. She did this by insulting at them in French, but in a very seductive tone. The man said “Aww, I don’t know what you just said, but it sounded so romantic.” Margot said “Thanks. I called you elephant shit.”

For a significant part of her life Margot has a benign tumor in her brain that causes her migraines, fatigue, and her to faint randomly. She doesn’t get it diagnosed until mid-series, when she starts having seizures that prompt her to go to the hospital and get a brain MRI. The tumor also causes the bad vision in Margot’s left eye that needs the monocle.

Margot’s aesthetic is steampunk, and the reason she started wearing a monocle (instead of just glasses with one lens) is because her great-grandfather was an influential figure in a movement for equity in Whimsica. He also wore a monocle, and since a young age, Margot wanted to follow in his footsteps. She had always wanted to make a positive impact on the world and speak out for what she believes in, despite her shyness.

(Also I’m trying to make Whimsica’s “issues” reflect the issues the world faces today, without making them too real. But I also don’t want to make them too fantastic either. So I’m thinking something along the lines of eugenics. Perhaps there were corrupt governments who considered people with certain traits (race, class, disability) more superior than others. Of course, these systems all get overthrown.)

Dixon’s murder charge came despite the fact that she had requested an order of protection against her husband in 2016 for punching her in the face and verbally abusing her multiple times, and Dixon’s insistence that she acted in self-defense. In addition, Alabama’s “Stand Your Ground” statutesays that an individual is “justified in using physical force upon another person in order to defend himself or herself … from what he or she reasonably believes to be the use or imminent use of unlawful physical force by that other person.”

But police and prosecutors rarely grant a Stand Your Ground and other justifiable homicide defenses to women, particularly Black women like Dixon, when they are defending themselves from abusers. In New Orleans, Catina Curley shot and killed her husband in 2005 after enduring physical abuse for over a decade. Orleans Parish District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro nonetheless charged Curley with second-degree murder; she was convicted at trial and sentenced to life in prison. (The Louisiana Supreme Court recently granted her a new trial.) More famously, in 2012, Marissa Alexander of Jacksonville, Florida, was convicted of aggravated assault and sentenced to 20 years in prison for merely firing a warning shot at her abusive husband. Alexander was freed in 2017 after advocates campaigned for her release. An energetic grassroots campaign led to the defeat of the prosecutor on her case, Angela Corey, who unsuccessfully prosecuted George Zimmerman, who invoked Stand Your Ground after killing Trayvon Martin in 2012. Now, groups like Survived and Punished are rallying around criminalized survivors with this demand: “Free Them All.”

Catina’s aesthetic (”naturepunk”)

So Margot’s aesthetic is steampunk...

But I’m going to have Catina’s aesthetic be more of a plant and wildlife-inspired nature version of steampunk. I’m going to call it naturepunk. I looked up “naturepunk” to see if it was a thing and saw mostly actual animal remains being used as accessories... I’m kind of against that to be honest.

But I’m going to invent a new form of naturepunk that’s basically just steampunk but with wood instead of metals, flowers and leaves instead of gears, vines instead of chains, but the overall similar era and style of clothing.

Also the aesthetic will reflect the deep woods. Think of where you’d find bears, squirrels, and foxes. The trademark animal of naturepunk could be an owl.

Catina is so cute

Can I just fangirl for a little while. Catina is becoming so cute once I take into account her catlike playfulness. She’s honestly like a giant kitten... a 5 foot 10 inch muscular BODE ABSOLUTE UNIT ball of fluff.

She started out quite a bit more serious but now she’s just heartwarmingly endearing.

She’s a lot like Rin Hoshizora actually, if I had to compare her to someone. Rin isn’t a catgirl in Love Live, but in the Whimsica AU I created, she is.

Catina is nice to everyone, unless you’re mean. She’s especially nice to Margot. She loves to cuddle Margot and gets so happy and excited when she sees her.

She has a certain amount of chaotic energy... Chaotic good energy. She loves to make people smile and laugh. Catina loves when people around her are happy. She also has boundless energy and curiosity.

She is also kind of clueless? Like she’s smart... but also endearingly silly.

Catina, despite being a (college) football player, is clueless about the Super Bowl, which she calls “Soup Bowl” or “Supper Bowl.” She thought it was a big feast and once asked Margot if she wanted to attend it with her.

When Catina is playing football and tackling other players on the field, she always has a playful smile as if she’s giving them hugs! She cries out “Hey everyone, here I come!” and laughs as they collapse to the ground. However, she is a big girl with a lot of power and her impacts are quite forceful...

Catina is not very good at Language Arts, and often has humorous vocabulary misinterpretations and mixups. Her best academic subject is actually Math, which is Margot’s weakness!

Catina will do practically anything to stand up for her friends, especially Margot. She is very courageous and driven by her emotions.

Catina is turning into a fluffy, affectionate, cuddly, adorable she/her himbo. (Which has different connotations from the word “bimbo” which I think sounds degrading somehow.)

Catina is such an uplifting and charismatic spirit leaving smiles wherever she goes... Some people find her annoying and it may get her down sometimes. But she still smiles for others whenever she can.

And don’t get me started how affectionate she is with Margot. She purrs and nuzzles her and cuddles and curls up with her. She keeps her shy girlfriend warm and comforted.

I love Catina and Margot so much.

Why do I write such long detailed summaries when I’d be better off just writing the damn thing itself...?

Also despite taking place in Whimsica, this summary has like no quirky fantasy elements besides Margot’s monocle being mentioned once.

Margot LaRoche is very shy—too shy to speak out about her opinions and feelings. While other students can be found socializing at college clubs and parties, Margot prefers to only go on campus for her classes.

In her first year of college, Margot meets Keith, who seems like a friendly and outgoing guy. Keith begins socializing with Margot one day and develops an acquaintanceship with her that becomes more like a friendship as time goes on.

However, Keith sometimes says offensive things about certain subjects that inadvertently upset Margot and feel like attacks. Keith doesn’t see it that way, but Margot thinks he is being hurtful.

Examples of his statements are how “retarded” it is to strive for a better world. He also implies a prejudice towards black people, saying they are generally “louder than other races.” He also bragged about how he once bullied a kid who had a disability, right in front of Margot.

Margot feels very uncomfortable and often hurt by Keith’s statements, yet she ignores them, or sometimes even goes along with them, due to her fear of speaking out and possibly losing her only friend.

In her second year of college, Margot meets Catina Leon at the library. Catina is a cheerful and friendly girl who takes interest in Margot and becomes fast friends with her. Margot notices a difference between her relationship with Keith and her relationship with Catina. Despite knowing Catina for less time, she genuinely enjoys spending time with her much more.

Weeks later, Margot and Keith are studying together at the library and chatting. Keith is saying his usual offensive things, and Margot is going along with them. Catina is eavesdropping and is shocked by what Keith is saying. She knows Margot well enough to figure that she wouldn’t agree with Keith’s statements. She notices that Margot looks very uncomfortable.

Catina schedules a meeting with Margot after school where they can talk alone. She says to her, “That guy you were studying with... who is he? You don’t agree with him, do you?”

Margot responds by shaking her head and saying, “I don’t. His name is Keith. We met in Language Arts class, but he always says offensive things like this...”

Catina is surprised that Margot is so afraid of standing up to Keith, given that she is so eloquent and that her dream is to better the world and give voices to people who need them. But she also understands her hesitancy. Catina decides to help and encourage Margot to cut Keith out of her life.

“I’ll always have your back, Margot. Okay? That’s what friends are for.”

The next day after Language Arts class, Keith once again spits out an ugly remark about how the messages about equality they teach in class are “retarded.”

“I don’t appreciate your use of that word.” Margot says to Keith once they’re out in the hallway.

“Um, okay?” Keith says. “Like, what brought this on?”

Margot begins to lecture Keith about the hurtful connotations of the word, then conveys her feelings on why equality is a very important lesson to teach in class.

“Why so angry? Someone must be on their period.” Keith says to Margot.

Margot was planning on peacefully ending her “friendship” with Keith. Suddenly, she feels anger pouring out that she cannot stop.

“Want to know why I’m speaking out? Why I’m angry? Because I’m sick of your shit that I’ve been silently putting up with all this time. Your words are extremely hurtful. You may not realize it, but everything you say impacts others. I’m not going to sit here and take it anymore.”

“Want a medal to go along with that massive ego of yours? Don’t pretend you’re so righteous just because you don’t agree with me.” Keith says.

”Shut up Keith.” A voice says. Someone is also helping Margot stand up to Keith. It’s Tory, one of the guys in Language Arts class.

Tory also thinks Keith is very rude and insensitive. Two more people begin to stand up to Keith. Their names are Andrea and Omar.

Catina is walking by, and sees the commotion going on in the hallway, which by now is emptying out. And sees Keith hit Margot onto the floor, calling her an “uppity bitch” before walking away.

Catina runs towards Margot to comfort her. Margot is in pain and her monocle is cracked.

Catina is taller than Keith so she threatens that he’ll be “catching these fists” if he ever goes near Margot again.

Andrea says it’s unlikely Keith will be going near Margot again, because this offense could get him expelled.

As soon as Keith is out of sight, Margot begins crying and shaking, convinced she really is a coward. She is hurt emotionally far more than she is physically.

“You’re not a coward.” Catina said. “You stood up to him. You stood up for what you believed in and spoke your mind.”

Tory tells Margot that he thought she was courageous, and that everyone wanted to stand up to Keith too. But nobody else felt brave enough either until Margot was the one who dared to.

The group goes off to tell authorities about what just happened, hoping Keith will get expelled for violence and hateful actions.

The following day, Keith is expelled. Catina and Margot are even better friends along with all the others who helped, and Language Arts class feels much more peaceful and far more united.

Tidbits

Margot does not like escargot. Don’t rhyme her name with escargot. She will insult you in French.

Margot actually has a talking snail living in her backyard garden. His name is Sheldon and they’re friends. Slumber the owl is also friends with Sheldon. He lives in a forest nearby.

Slumber is named that because he is usually taking naps during the day and is quite sleepy. But at night he feels wide awake. But he goes to school with Margot during the day so he has to stay awake... (This is a mixed up fantasy school/college with a bunch of different species.)

Margot likes gardening, actually.

Margot and Catina share a house close to campus together basically... it’s like a college dorm sort of but they live together so they can pay rent together.

Margot’s birthday is January 1st, New Years Day. However, she was born around 4:00 in the afternoon and therefore didn’t break any “first baby of the year” records. Catina’s birthday is April 27th.

Catina actually plays football despite being a woman. She’s on a college team called the Jaguars.

Despite being tomboyish, Catina’s aesthetic and style of clothing is feminine. It contrasts to Margot’s more masculine clothing preference.

Catina can speak some Spanish despite not being fluent.

Catina is actually quite insecure, mostly about her perceived lack of intelligence. She thinks of herself as an annoying nuisance and actually wishes she were more like Margot, who is knowledgeable and disciplined. Meanwhile, Margot wishes she were more outgoing and lively like Catina, who is able to make people laugh and has a lot of charisma.

Catina and Margot both have autism. Yes they do. I said it myself. It’s canon. :v

Also these OCs need an actual fleshed-out setting and story already because so far it’s just a bunch of random tidbits with no story... I haven’t even thought out how they met yet...

Catina runs towards Margot to comfort her. Margot is in pain and her monocle is cracked. Margot had lost her courage and self-esteem. The impact had also stressed her benign brain tumor, which had been growing beneath her skull, undiagnosed at the time. This resulted in Margot becoming very dizzy.

Catina is taller than Keith so she threatens that he’ll be “catching these fists” if he ever goes near Margot again.

Andrea says it’s unlikely Keith will be going near Margot again, because this offense could get him expelled...

As soon as Keith is out of sight, Margot begins crying and shaking, convinced she really is a coward. She is hurt emotionally far more than she is physically. Margot, who aspires to make a difference in the world, feels hopeless because she couldn’t even stand up to one person.

“You’re not a coward.” Catina said. “You stood up to him. You stood up for what you believed in and spoke your mind.”

Tory tells Margot that he thought she was courageous, and that everyone wanted to stand up to Keith too. But nobody else felt brave enough either until Margot was the one who dared to.

The group goes off to tell authorities about what just happened, hoping Keith will get expelled for violence and hateful actions...

So I was originally going to have Keith just be expelled... But I decided that it would send more of an impactful message if Keith actually did not get expelled. Margot and the rest of the students that stood up to him would then have to band together and fight for their justice. Situations like this happen far too often in real life, where a seemingly undefeatable higher power perpetuates injustice and it takes the combined effort of many people to overthrow it.

I also want Margot to eventually develop and build much more courage. I want her to be able to stand tall and to speak passionately with authority and confidence about what she believes in.

I also thought of a small tidbit... I thought of Margot accidentally ending up enrolled in a theater class by chance after a mix-up occurring. She also cannot drop out of this class, so she decides to participate. The class ends up being very good for her self-esteem, and encourages Margot, who has a hidden love of theatrics, to come out of her shell. She also learns how to speak with poise and confidence, which is a very useful tool in life. She even meets a few true friends in the class.

I’m also thinking This is Whimsica and it Needs More Fantasy so I’m also maybe planning this fantasy magical girl twist and Keith is some sort of villain or something...? (My mind is Very Simple.)

All I know is that Margot needs to fight Keith as revenge for him hitting her. One day. Someday.

Even more Margot and Catina stuff...

(This one might get just a little... risqué, since it’s about their bodies and sexual attraction at one point.)

Catina and Margot’s pairing/ship name is Martina.

Catina has a crush on Margot. She loves her and cares about her platonically, but there is also a romantic element and a physical (sexual) element as well.

Margot “may or may not have strong hidden romantic and somewhat sexual feelings for Catina.” But seriously... knowing how I pair my OCs together, y’all already know she totally does. It’s kinda pointless to say she “may or may not.” It’s just that she’s reserved and is less likely to show it...

Catina is a lesbian, and Margot is bisexual. They’re both cisgender, even though in certain ways they don’t conform to their assigned gender.

Margot is a D cup bra size, she is more of an hourglass shape. Catina is a B cup and her body shape is more... linear (or square) and she’s toned and somewhat muscular.

Neither of them think of themselves as attractive—Margot is oblivious to physical beauty and doesn’t give it much thought. Catina thinks of herself as unattractive due to her muscle tone.

Catina finds Margot very attractive, and even though she understands Margot’s shyness, thinks she ought to have more confidence in herself.

Catina accidentally lets her opinion slip out when she’s asked by one of her friendly admirers (Linnea) if she would ever do swimsuit modeling. (The subject happened to come up.)

Catina responds, “Well... if I was sexy like Margot, than maybe. Wait... Oh my gosh, did I just say that!? I mean uh... y-yeah... Margot has a pretty nice figure, I mean... I don’t mean that in like... a creepy way... oh my gosh... ah...”

Catina blushes and makes an excuse to be somewhere else.

But the whole time, Catina’s friend Linnea knows what’s up... she’s crushing on Margot.

Catina can purr. She is a (wild) cat fauna after all. (Jaguarundi in specific.) (Think a catgirl or faunus; Blake from RWBY.)

Catina is also very flexible and stealthy. She is also very curious... and very, very affectionate by cuddling. Margot doesn’t like strangers hugging or even shaking her hand, but she loves this physical contact with Catina.
