Catherine Duchess of Cambridge at Sandringham on Christmas through the years
Tumblr media
2020
While the royals were unable to gather like usual on Christmas Day in 2020, we'd be remiss not to squeeze in one pre-Christmas look from the Duchess of Cambridge. Kate Middleton and Prince William joined Queen Elizabeth for an event to thank those volunteering during the Christmas season. The Duchess wore a fur-lined green coat and dazzling teardrop earrings.
Tumblr media
2019
The Duchess of Cambridge chose a palette of grey and green for her 2019 Christmas ensemble, including a fur-trimmed coat, green fascinator, and a matching clutch and heels—but her coordinating didn't end there. A young Princess Charlotte sported a similarly-hued, double-breasted jacket.
Tumblr media
2018
Few shades are more classically “Christmas” than a warm berry red, and the Duchess of Cambridge committed to the hue for her 2018 Christmas look. Wearing a Catherine Walker coat, Jane Taylor “halo band,” and Gianvito Rossi suede pumps, Kate Middleton was a vision in monochrome.
Tumblr media
2017
It's not often that the royals step out in bold patterns, but when they do, it's usually a tartan or plaid. For her 2017 Christmas look, the Duchess of Cambridge chose to wear a festive peacoat by Miu Miu—punctuated by simple black accessories, including a fur hat, gloves, tights, and suede pumps.
Tumblr media
2016
Kate Middleton brought her family to her hometown for holidays in 2016—and the Cambridges are seen here in coordinating maroons while heading off to a Christmas Day church service. The Duchess chose a fur trimmed coat, with matching pumps and a (slightly) brighter suede clutch.
Tumblr media
2015
For Christmas Day in 2015, the Duchess of Cambridge bundled up in a hunter green Max Mara coat, high black boots, a simple fascinator, and black gloves.
Tumblr media
2014
The Duchess of Cambridge paired a tweed coat with a deep brown hat by Lock & Co. on Christmas Day in 2014—but our eyes are on the pop of pattern coming from what looks like a silk scarf underneath.
Tumblr media
2013
Another festive-patterned moment from the Duchess, this time in the form of a Black Watch tartan coat. She topped her look off with a color-coordinated fascinator.
Tumblr media
2012
Christmas observance included Communion and carols. Many will recall that Kate and William elected to spend part/all of the holiday with Kate’s family at their home in Berkshire, instead of joining the Queen and other Royals at Sandringham. The Middleton gathering was expected to be lower key and more relaxing than the annual Sandringham festivities. Kate opted for pieces some will remember seeing previously, including her Celeste coat by Hobb’s.
Tumblr media
2011
For her first official Christmas as a member of the royal family, Kate Middleton chose a subdued maroon ensemble, including a coat and velvet hat by Jane Corbett.

A Very Catherine Christmas Recap--2011
I’m doing a series of posts about Catherine’s Christmas outfits during the lead up to Christmas day--I will do about one post a day or so. I’ll be focusing on fashion mostly, though I can’t guarantee 2016 won’t be a Cambridge kids appreciation post instead
Catherine blessed us with TWO outfits for her first royal Christmas at Sandringham. There was a 9 AM church service at St. Mary Magdalene Church on the Sandringham Estate that William and Catherine both attended with other members of the royal family.
Tumblr media
By the looks of it, it was very casual. Catherine’s wearing a Reiss coat that is discontinued, her beloved Aquatalia Rhumba boots, and it looks like the same earrings and hair style she sports later in the day for the official walk.
Tumblr media
Her boots are STILL available for purchase from Aquatalia’s website, here (this is definitely an investment shoe that aged very well). I didn’t realize it in the pictures of Kate wearing them previously but there’s a half inch platform and the heel is about 3.3 inches so these are probably amazingly comfortable.
Tumblr media
Later in the day for the official Christmas walk and service, Catherine wore a burgundy/eggplant coat with a funnel neck, hidden buttons, and princess seams. On her feet are black suede pumps by Mascaro and she’s carrying a clutch by Mulberry, both of which are discontinued.
Tumblr media
Here’s a good shot to see the detailing of the coat. It’s beautifully tailored. The only information released about this coat is simply that it was made by an independent British dressmaker. Earrings are her green amethyst Kiki McDonough’s and the contrast is very festive for Christmas day. I tried to see if they were still available for purchase on Kiki’s website but I don’t think this particular pair are available because the stone looks more oval than round. If you don’t quite care for those semantics, then head on over here to take a peek.
Tumblr media
The hat is Jane Corbett and here it is from behind because it’s even prettier from the back (also I just love Kate’s hair) and a look at the back of the dress.
For her first Christmas with the royals while under all that (still very new) scrutiny, I think this look was a hit.

The Duchess of Cambridge’s Trooping The Colour Outfit Rankings
8) Trooping The Colour 2015 - Catherine Walker “Astrid” Coat and Sylvia Fletcher for John Lock and Co “Marisabel” Hat
I know she’d had Charlotte like less than 2 months earlier but it’s no excuse for wearing the world’s ugliest curtain. I don’t mind the hat though
Tumblr media
7) Trooping The Colour 2012 - Erdem Dress and Jane Corbett Hat
It’s a less ugly curtain than 2015′s choice but this is a BAD Erdem dress. Also, the hat is covering your eyes Catherine, how can you see?
Tumblr media
6) Trooping The Colour 2014 - Alexander McQueen Suit and Jane Taylor Hat
It’s still a curtain-inspired outfit but it’s a far more impressive curtain. I like the fact the McQueen skulls survived Kate’s watchful gaze and snuck out for THE QUEENS BIRTHDAY. Also, it’s a suit - full respect for not being a coat. The hat is... there
Tumblr media
5) Trooping The Colour 2018 - Alexander McQueen Dress and Juliette Botterill Hat
There is nothing wrong with this dress except it’s a bit dull. I like the colour and I oddly LOVE the shoulders but I like her other outfits more. I quite like the hat
Tumblr media
4) Trooping The Colour 2013 - Alexander McQueen Coat and Jane Corbett Hat
Between the colour, her baby bump, and her pregnancy chubby cheeks, this is the most marshmallow-y Catherine Elizabeth has ever looked and I love it. Pink suits her and she knows it. Also, I liked this hat the first time she wore it and I like it now
Tumblr media
3) Trooping The Colour 2011 - Alexander McQueen “Cotton and Wool-Blend Pique Coat” Coat and Sylvia Fletcher for Lock and Co Hat
Girl came out of the gate FLYING. She knew a bustle works for her and she was not playing around. If Catherine could do one thing for me it would be to bring back the McQueen bustle. Anyway, it’s like the little sister of her wedding dress and is let down by the strange net on her head
Tumblr media
2) Trooping The Colour 2017 - Alexander McQueen Dress and Jane Taylor Hat
This was so nearly my favourite. I preferred this dress in the shade she used for Eugenie’s wedding but that’s a niggle. She looked great, she colour-coordinated like a pro, she rocked a paper bag waist and now I’m obsessed with them. The hat looked weird but also elevated the dress so I think I liked it on balance
Tumblr media
1) Trooping The Colour 2016 - Alexander McQueen Coatdress and Philip Treacy Hat
IF CATHERINE COULD STOP REWEARING THIS COATDRESS IN SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT SHADES THAT WOULD BE GREAT. Honestly, I can’t fault this look. The hat is STUNNING and Philip Treacy should be Catherine’s go to milliner. The colour of the coat suits her, the cut of the coat suits her, it’s a REPEAT. I love it. 10/10
