sometimes I wonder how much Monster High’s target demographic (not adult collectors) gets all the references in their names
Lagoona Blue seems like a reference to the 1980 movie “Blue Lagoon”
Catrine DeMew is a play on the name of French actress Catherine Deneuve
Wyndowna Spider might be more obvious to even kids (Winona Ryder)
Finnegan Wake is basically just the title of the James Joyce book Finnegan’s Wake without the “s”
Garrott DuRoque’s first name is meant to be another spelling of Garrett, but is just a few letters off from “garrote,” a verb meaning “to strangle someone to death with a rope or cord”
and those are just the ones I, a person outside the fandom, caught from the Wikipedia page. something to make the parents and older fans chuckle, I guess!
