So, I'm giving the gals middle names, and specifically I want them all to be virtue names.

Bunny's proper name is Elizabeth Joy Higgins (as I've learned that Bunny is an old-timey nickname for Elizabeth)

Cath is Cathleen Mercedes (or Mercy) Ronary

Shirley Victoria (or Victory) Laine

And then there's Janet. Last name Smith, so anything works.

Everybody, it’s the moment you’ve been waiting for...more G Gundam cels! Haven’t had time to find the source for Domon yet, but I love it since he’s got his rusty Bruder muramasa blade. Maybe not as awesome as any of his training scenes with the sword during that arc, but still. The Rain and Cath cel comes from Episode 18 - Steal the Secret! Scheme of the Beautiful Warriors. After Cath injured her leg in a fall, a lightning strike causes the earth to separate, along with the patch of land that she, Rain and the rest of the Chibodee Gals are all on to break away and start sinking into the river. Cath pleads with Shirley to put aside her pride and to call Chibodee to help save them all, while Rain is still tending to her. Rain in the rain:

Cath’s mouth is on a second, separate cel layer, which is probably why the douga has her without a mouth.

So I've been doing lots of research and putting lots of time into developing minor characters from a particular canon, and I've come to an impasse. Namely, Cath Ronary. That is to say, I'm getting basically no hits on Ronary as an actual last name at all. So then I started thinking - and this is where I could use help. Does anyone know of any names/words in any language that could potentially be/have been anglicized/romanized, typo'd, 'simplified', or otherwise bastardized to end up at this name?

Some thoughts I had during a G Gundam rewatch/discussion some time ago:

-English and Russian are the languages of space - what if creole developed from this on the colonies, became a sort of lingua franca?

-Linguistic drift has bled into other languages:

-Rain is straight up English, first off. Also the fact that they're all referred to given name first, which is not generally how Japanese works

-The hell kind of name is Chibodee? Also hey Cath, Ronary is not a surname that resembles any language I know. Suspect lots of linguistic corruption/blending, but I'm not even sure where to start here

-Likewise Argo is Greek and also not a name (though I appreciate the stealth pun it implies). He certainly looks Slavic, but Gulskii doesn't bear that out - variation on a Polish name like Kolski? Which could imply some interesting things about Russian borders/cultural mingling

-Sai Saici, sigh. Names given for his father and grandfather in supplemental material confirm that Sai is his family name, though to be fair Sai is a valid nickname for his given name (by Western standards, anyway - does Chinese do this?).

-I'm sorry, Allenby Beardsley isn't Swedish in the slightest

Other non-linguistic notes:

-Old-fashioned names seem to be quite popular among women. See: all of Team Neo America (and worth noting that Bunny has been used in antiquity as a nickname for both Elizabeth and Veronica), also Cecile (which is decidedly not Danish, but there are a lot of versions of this name all over Europe so whatever)

-Quick side-eye at whoever named Marie-Louise after Napoleon's wife

-Not names, but an interesting note to chew on - long hair is quite popular among men!

-Reminder to keep an eye for any fashion peculiarities! Domon and Rain do both have that split-sleeve outer layer going on?

-I maintain that Argo and his crew are from Earth and that's how they got their start as pirates, to lash out at the colonies

-We are so digging into that culture clash, my friends

-So, trace suits. I'm sure everyone else's suit-ups are just truncated for time, rather than them just being able to get into them instantaneously and easily as it appears, but is it also possible that Domon, having been thrown into the Gundam Fight fairly quickly, hasn't had quite as much practice as well?

-Also! Given the lack of need for a trace suit, might Master Asia actually be able to psychically interface with his gundam?

-You know what, there's a lot of magical/spiritual stuff we need to discuss!
