I’m not a big fan of this episode because it does feel like clace takes over. Magnus doesn’t appear at all but people do bring up Magnus. I get clary and jace are supposed to be the main characters but their presence is an irritation to my soul. kinda feels “hey we had Malec the feature for last episode so we can go back to making it all about clace again”. I want to see how Magnus is holding up after trauma dumping and how that has brought him and Alec together more. I’d like to see Magnus bond with dot or any of his warlock friends. Catarina, where are you? I’m just saying, we could’ve had more without them heavily focusing on clace. WE DONT CARE but anyways let’s begin

A crescente da inteligência artificial no cotidiano das pessoas e como ela influencia o futuro da sociedade.

Há muitos anos, o mundo se transforma constantemente com as mudanças tecnológicas e com a criação de muitas dessas tecnologias, chamadas de inteligência artificial (IA), causando impacto no convívio da sociedade, no cotidiano e no trabalho das pessoas.

Só para ter uma ideia, em 2022, 87,2% da população brasileira tem acesso ou usa internet em casa, um aumento de 2,5% ao ano anterior de 2021. Esse crescimento é ainda maior relacionado ao ano de 2016, quando a pesquisa apontava apenas 66,1%, amplificando esse número a 21,1 pontos percentuais. Os dados são da Pesquisa Nacional por Amostra de Domicílios Contínua (Pnad) feita pelo Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE). Confira a pesquisa completa aqui.

Levando em conta esses dados do IBGE, com o crescimento do uso de internet, é natural a criação e o aumento de tecnologia que as pessoas irão ter acesso. Só nessa última década, inteligências como a realidade virtual (VR), drones e assistentes virtuais são exemplos de novas tecnologias que já fazem parte do dia a dia das pessoas.

Segundo o Diego Robson, diretor operacional da Audio Prime, empresa que atua no segmento de Som Ambiente e Home Theater, o maior desafio ao trabalhar com a inteligência artificial, é ensiná-la de uma forma que vá atender as necessidades da população, dando a precisão de funcionamento mais próxima do 100%. “O desafio é realmente ensinar e tratar os dados para que ela aprenda com o padrão de excelência”, ressalta.

A “IAMANHÂ?”,  criadora de conteúdo focada em tecnologia e inteligência artificial, produziu um vídeo 100% feito por essas inteligências. O vídeo que foi publicado no YouTube, serve como exemplo de como essas inteligências estão cada vez mais ocupando espaços de atividades e trabalhos que antes eram feitos por humanos. A IAMANHÃ? é uma produtora de conteúdo formada por alunos de comunicação da UniSociesc Blumenau, que possui o objetivo de promover o debate sobre a inteligência artificial e como ela pode influenciar o futuro.

O que são essas inteligências artificiais?

Realidade virtual: é um ambiente virtual, gerado por meio de um sistema operacional, com cenas e objetos que parecem reais, fazendo com que os usuários se sintam imersos nessa realidade. Essa tecnologia induz efeitos visuais e sonoros, permitindo total imersão no ambiente criado virtualmente. O usuário pode interagir ou não com o que vê ao seu redor, dependendo das possibilidades do sistema utilizado.

Drones: são aeronaves não tripuladas de diversos tamanhos, o controle é feito de forma remota e servem para a captação de imagens para eventos, transmissões de imagens para atividades jornalísticas e também como transporte de objetos pequenos.

Assistentes virtuais: é um software que realiza tarefas ou serviços para o usuário, como responder e-mails e informar lembretes. Os assistentes virtuais mais comuns hoje em dia são: a Siri, da Apple, a Alexa, da Amazon, e o OK Google, do Google.

Inteligência artificial no cotidiano

“No início foi meio difícil, ela ficou meio receosa, ainda hoje um pouco, mas hoje acredito que a Alexa tem sido fantástica, minha salvação e minha segurança”, diz a Dra. Ana Cláudia Knoll Zoschke, professora da Sociedade Educacional de Santa Catarina (UniSociesc).

Há 2 anos atrás, a mãe de Ana sofreu duas dissecções de aorta e como o pai possui pressão alta, diabetes e demência, que foi detectada recentemente, utiliza a Alexa com frequência em função do cuidado que precisa ter com os pais. Ela é mãe do João Vicente, de 4 anos, e como precisa deixar ele com os avós para poder trabalhar, conversou com o esposo sobre a compra de uma Alexa. Ela então possui um aplicativo conectado no assistente virtual, com as funções e a câmera que acompanha os pais e o filho.

"Olha só, em tempo real eles não me veem mas se eu preciso chamar agora a minha mãe eu entro no dispositivo e consigo fazer uma ligação. Sem falar os lembretes para tomar o remédio. Isso é um bom apoio", declara.

A professora ainda argumentou que consegue controlar a glicemia do pai, via aplicativo. A endocrinologista pediu a ela e a família que controlasse para ver a hemoglobina glicada (HbA1c) dele, por conta disso ela optou em usar o FreeStyle Libre, um sensor com duração de 14 dias, colocado no braço, que ao aproximar o celular consegue verificar a glicemia. “É fantástico! Isso tem me dado uma certa liberdade que eu não tinha lá no início. A tecnologia para mim tem sido fantástica", afirma.

Mesmo com a inteligência artificial cada vez mais inserida no cotidiano da sociedade, mudando a forma de viver e de agir da população, ainda há uma grande parcela de pessoas que não sabem se relacionar com essas novas tecnologias. Muitas delas não sabem nem que sequer existem. A “IAMANHÃ?” também produziu uma série de vídeos curtos para a plataforma do TikTok, mostrando o nível de conhecimento de pessoas com idades diversas sobre as inteligências artificiais. Segundo um estudo feito por cientistas para a revista científica Journal of Topics in Cognitive Science, o cérebro dos idosos funciona como se fosse um "disco rígido de computador" e com a sobrecarga de dados, demora mais tempo para acessar e processar suas informações. O estudo foi divulgado pela BBC News, confira aqui.

Já o cenário muda quando falamos de crianças, que crescem e se desenvolvem dentro desse universo tecnológico e não precisam se adaptar. “Parece que eles já vem de dentro com isso pronto”, comenta a professora Ana Cláudia Knoll Zoschke, sobre como foi para o filho, João Vicente, lidar com a tecnologia desde cedo. Ela relata que o filho adora usar o celular para fotografar com o objetivo de desenhar por cima das fotos pela tela do aparelho.

A professora também comentou sobre o uso da Alexa pelo filho: "Ele também usa muito a Alexa. Esses dias ele até pediu para trazer os amiguinhos para mostrar as coisas que ele aprendeu". Ela finaliza dizendo que com a ferramenta da Alexa, ele chega a separar os remédios do pai dela, entendendo essa necessidade além do que apenas um brinquedo.

Inteligência artificial no trabalho

Fato é, que inteligências como a Alexa, estão sendo usadas muito além de tarefas rotineiras em casa, mas também como um suporte no ambiente de trabalho. É o caso do Diego Robson, que trabalha com inteligência artificial há 6 anos, e utiliza os assistentes virtuais, CoPilot, Chat GPT e o Gemini em suas funções na Audio Prime.

Diego conta que a empresa está tentando implementar ainda mais a inteligência artificial para facilitar as pré-vendas, possibilitando que o vendedor busque no chatbot os melhores equipamentos para aquela proposta de venda. “A gente tá com alguns projetos agora engajados para o time comercial para darmos assistência de pré-venda. Hoje nós devemos ter uns 4 projetos engatilhados”, revela Diego.

Para ele, o uso dessas ferramentas no ambiente de trabalho facilita e reduz o tempo de desenvolvimento, mas ressalta os perigos que podem ser causados para aqueles que não estão capacitados. Segundo ele, isso pode causar resultados negativos na indústria. “Então para quem quer usar a ferramenta e estuda, e está capacitado, vai ser excelente”, exclama.

A utilização incorreta das inteligências artificiais podem causar danos às empresas e para Robson, o maior risco referente a esse uso é o vazamento de dados sensíveis. Segundo ele, a Audio Prime não possui nenhuma diretriz ou regra da empresa relacionada ao limite de uso da inteligência artificial, porém ele orienta a cautela no uso desses dados sensíveis, como por exemplo, informações de clientes e algumas regras de negócios.

Diego Robson ainda recomenda para os entusiastas que pretendem trabalhar com inteligência artificial, sempre buscarem conhecimento. “Acho que é importante não ter preguiça de estudar. Esse profissional vai ter mais vantagem”, aconselha. Para ele, o futuro da indústria com o uso dessas tecnologias é algo que já está acontecendo e revela que o perigo é a falta de veracidade das fontes geradas pela inteligência artificial. “Acho importante sempre buscar a fonte oficial para ver se realmente aquilo saiu dali ou não”, finaliza.

Apurar a veracidade das fontes é uma etapa fundamental nas produções jornalísticas, mas com a crescente do uso de inteligência artificial, isso tem causado espanto pela contribuição das “fakes news” e ameaçado a credibilidade de reportagens e notícias. Para o Leo Laps, redator do NSC Total de Blumenau, o uso dessas ferramentas podem facilitar o trabalho “chato” e repetitivo dos jornalistas, no objetivo de gastar menos tempo com tarefas automáticas, como pesquisas simplórias. De forma geral, ele acredita que a inteligência artificial pode ajudar mais do que prejudicar o jornalismo.

“Eu tenho uma visão positiva nessa parte, tá? Porque vai ter que ter o ser humano. Eu sei que o mundo mudou muito, mas, assim, o ser humano vai continuar tendo que estar ali pra fazer a curadoria, pra fazer a fiscalização dessas máquinas, né?”, declara.

Em 2020, o site norte-americano Business Insider, revelou que a Microsoft demitiu cerca de 50 jornalistas que trabalhavam em suas plataformas de notícias. Em suas funções de sugerir reportagens, escolher e organizar os conteúdos em destaque para distribuir entre os sites e portais da empresa, uma ferramenta de inteligência artificial foi colocada no lugar.

Desde a crescente da tecnologia, o debate sobre a inteligência artificial ameaçar a existência de jornalistas humanos tem sido discutido. Para Leo, a implantação dessas ferramentas nas produções jornalísticas vai ajudar a tornar muitos processos automáticos, necessitando de menos profissionais para fazer os trabalhos, mas não acredita que isso aconteça de forma tão rápida. “Mas daqui uns 20 anos, por exemplo, aquela matéria básica sobre um acidente. Quantos mortos tiveram. O que o acidente causou e tal. Ela (inteligência artificial) vai poder pegar uma fonte de dados da polícia e fazer esse relato”, opina.

Analisando por um lado positivo, Leo acredita que a inteligência artificial possibilitará ao profissional usar o cérebro dele para ler esses dados e tentar fazer uma matéria mais aprofundada ou focar numa matéria que irá ter um impacto maior e deixar essas trivialidades para uma inteligência artificial fazer, se livrando dessas tarefas corriqueiras. “Em vez de ter que ficar ligando para todas as polícias para saber quantos acidentes deu, tu vai pedir pra ela (inteligência artificial), e ela vai buscar e vai te enviar o relatório”, explica. Porém, ele ressalta que esse relatório pode estar sujeito a erros, necessitando de uma checagem humana sem precisar que o profissional perca tempo buscando informações.

Segundo ele, outros fatores também ajudaram a ameaçar os empregos de jornalistas, como a diminuição do número de profissionais nas redações, devido a contribuição do lucro para as empresas. “Eles tiveram que cortar empregos. E na verdade sobrecarrega todo o mundo. Então todo mundo tem que fazer um pouco de tudo, né? O que é terrível”, exclama.

O jornalista revela quais ferramentas de inteligência artificial usa nas funções que realiza na NSC: “Acho que há mais tempo eu já venho usando a ferramenta de transcrição de entrevistas, de áudio de entrevistas, que é uma coisa que eu considero já uma forma de inteligência artificial”. Mesmo utilizando a ferramenta, ele conta que ainda precisa ler e revisar o que a inteligência artificial entregou, necessitando dessa mão humana para verificar o resultado.

Uma dessas inteligências que Leo utiliza é o “Google Pinpoint”, que é uma ferramenta do próprio Google, voltada para jornalistas, e que tem vários recursos, porém só utilizou a de transcrição de áudio e texto. Segundo ele, a ferramenta é capaz de gravar o áudio junto ao  texto. “São dois softwares diferentes, você dá um play nos trechos e ele vai… E aí você consegue estar editando de uma forma mais eficaz”, explica.

Porém, na visão de Leo, a indústria ainda não está habilitada para trabalhar com inteligência artificial de forma eficaz, e questões como esta, não devem ser ignoradas. Ele ressalta a importância das faculdades darem o suporte e ensino necessário para os estudantes. “Mesmo quem já mergulhou nisso ainda é tanta coisa. Pelo menos parece ser tanta coisa, tanta novidade... São tantas ferramentas… Um mergulho que tem que ser feito”, afirma.

Eindelijk had ik het geluid gevonden. Ik speelde in de band Nangoya in Winterswijk samen met Noké en Eli Pietersz en Daniel Sahuleka. Alle aankomende leerlingen beveel ik “jammen” aan om de kunst van het spelen onder de knie te krijgen. Eind jaren 60, begin jaren 70, speelde ik als congero bij een Antilliaanse band. We speelden voornamelijk in Duitsland. Daarna koos ik voor Massada die voorheen the Eagles heette. Ik had de Latijns Amerikaanse feeling onder de knie en kon ik dit goed toepassen. We boekten zelf onze optredens en werd uiteindelijk Joke Zonneveld onze manager. Op een gegeven moment speelden we in één jaar in alle jongerencentra in Nederland. Ik ging als studiomuzikant te werk en tijdens een opname was de producer in mij geïnteresseerd en vroeg me voor de Golden Earring te spelen. Daarna kwamen er meer en speelde ik voor; Corrie Konings, Sandra Reemer, Blue Diamonds, Dolly Dots, Rob de Nijs, Lee Towers en vele anderen. Ook heb ik voor de allergrootsten gespeeld waaronder Catarina Valente en Toots Thielemans. Wat mij zo dreef was dat ik erkend wilde worden als professional maar vooral als persoon. De film Little Big Man heeft me bewust gemaakt en ben ik hierdoor gegroeid. Naast de bekende Nederlanders ging ik de Jazzscene in en speelde met Rob Franken, Ack van Rooyen en Hans Dulfer. Als ik aan het spelen ben draag ik mijn Molukszijn uit. Als ik Molukse liedjes hoor moet ik altijd wenen omdat mijn wortels en mijn Molukszijn hierin verweven zitten. Ik ben rebellerend geweest en heb mijn strijd gehad met iedereen die mij niet begrepen. Zo heb ik geleerd te vechten voor mijn bestaan. Mijn zegeningen zijn mijn kinderen en de muziek die ik mag spelen. Ook heb ik Engelen die mij bescherming geven. Mijn huidige generatie zou ik willen adviseren je lekker uit te leven. Kijk niet terug maar realiseer je verleden om weer naar voren te gaan. Voel je niet schuldig en blijf niet te lang in oude en onbruikbare processen zitten. De nieuwe jonge generaties zou ik adviseren de Molukse Maleise taal machtig te zijn. Niks is leuker dat je je eigen Bangsa begrijpt en je hierdoor je gevoelens kan delen. De kracht van de taal is ook de kracht van het gevoel. In alles wat ik in het Maleis voel kan ik herleiden tot mijn gevoel dat vanuit Schattenberg is meegegeven. Verbindende krachten zijn onverwoestbaar; omong bahasa, tau bangsa, ook al doe je dit niet vloeiend. Daarmee moet je je eigen krachten met de ander laten verbinden. Dit begint met je eigen mensen. i rly enjoy it when there are hints to specific monster schools outside of monster high that cater to one kind of monster. i couldnt quite makeout what the twins were saying but it sounded like "meowton academy"? i remember in g1 there was some stuff abt dracula wanting to send draculaura to a vampire specific academy iirc. i like details like that because like for one thing i like knowing there are other academic options in the monster world besides this one school, plus it sorta established monster high as a place thats notable for its inclusion of multiple different species learning together under one roof which feels in line with like the core messaging of the series and would both make sense for why young monsters might want to go there over other schools, as well as for why older monsters more set in their ways might be antsy about sending their kids there if they hadnt graduated from there themselves.

Story:

Cat sighed as she slid the patient’s discharge papers into their proper place. She was happy that at least someone was going to spend time with their loved ones. Catarina had volunteered to cover one of her co-worker’s shifts so they could spend the 25th of December at home with loved ones. She was an immortal, and there would always be another Christmas; it wasn’t the same for mundanes. 

She pushed herself away from the long desk in the nurses’ station, pulling herself to the filing cabinet behind her to put more files away. Luckily it was quiet, not many people were coming, and all she really had to do was attend to her current patients; the worst she saw was a patient who came in at 9 am because they tried to play Santa for his children but popped something while picking up one of them. 

Catarina turned around when the chime of the door went off. She was shocked to find her girlfriend, Dot, walking hand in hand with their daughter, Madzie. 

It had taken sometime after the Iris situation to get Madzie settled with them. Catarina felt a pang of guilt at seeing Madzie. Catarina hadn’t originally intended to take over the shift, but she knew the other nurse personally and felt for him when they had received their schedules. She had reasoned with herself that the shift only went till noon. Dot had also assured her that Madzie adamantly stated she didn’t want to open her presents until she got to Uncle Magnus and Alec’s Christmas Party because Max and Rafael promised to do so the same; some sort of cousin holiday pact. Magnus had tried to explain it to Cat over texts, but all she really understood was that the children wanted to open their presents together. 

“Mama!” Madzie cried out as she ran up to the nurses’ station. 

“Madz, don’t run in the hospital, you know that,” Dot reminded her with a chuckle as she followed soon after. “Hey, Cat thought we’d drop by to see you before we headed off to Magnus’.” 

“Mommy already sent the presents to Rafe and Max!” Madzie declared extremely proudly. “We are going to go over there now and wait for you.” 

Catarina smiled and listened as Madzie kept going on about their plans for the day. She really did feel bad for not being there the morning of Christmas with Madzie, but Catarina planned to make it up to her tonight; she had made sure to get everything on Madzie’s list and extras; Magnus wasn’t the only warlock who liked spoiling their children.

“I can’t wait,” Catarina responded, leaning over the nurses’ station and fixing her daughter’s scarf. “I still have another hour here, but I will meet you both there as soon as I am done.” 

“Here, Madz,” Dot called out, holding a few dollar bills out to Madzie and pointing to the small vending machine to the side of the nurses’ station still in clear view, “Why don’t you get mama a drink before we go. I bet she hasn’t had time to drink something because of work.” 

“Yes!” Madzie accepted as she took the money and ran to the machine. 

“Madzie, no running,” Dot reminded her once again with a headshake. “I swear anything that isn’t magic, just flies out of her ears.” 

“Max is the same; all warlocks are at the age,” Catarina smiled as they both watched their daughter, trying to get the dollars in the machine. Catarina turned back to Dot and noticed the matching pair of burgundy mittens and the matching hat, an early present she had given Dot. “Has she been hyper all morning?”

“I made a mistake and gave in her puppy eyes when she asked for chocolate chips and chocolate syrup with whip cream on her waffles,” Dot admitted as she rubbed the back of her neck. “I was half asleep and alone; it wasn’t a fair fight, babe.”

Catarina laughed and reached for Dot’s hand before speaking, “I’m sorry I left you alone to Madz’s pleading face, was the rest of the morning okay?” 

“Yeah, she missed you, but she understood that you had work,” Dot responded, squeezing Cat’s hand. “Plus, she also knew you would be at the party with us for lunch, so it made it easier for her, I think.” 

“Next year, I won’t volunteer to take the shifts,” Cat promised, bringing up their intertwined hands and kissing Dot’s. 

“I think it’s okay as long as we get to spend the majority of the day with you,” Dot blushed as she replied. 

“Mama! I got it!” Madzie cheered, placing three different drinks on the desk. 

Catarina looked over the bottles and saw Madzie had brought her two different types of waters and a canned coffee drink. 

“Thank you Madz,” Catarina walked around the nurses’ station and pulled Madzie into a hug.

The moment was cut short by a beeping from behind the desk, and Catarina shot up on instinct. She looked at Dot and Madzie with an apologetic smile. 

“Sorry, it looks like work calls,” Catarina leaned down and kissed the top of Madzie’s head and then quickly kissed Dot’s cheek. “I’ll see you both at Magnus’.” 

Catarina was grateful Dot understood the beeping from the patient’s needing something from a room. She took her drinks to drop them off in the break room on her and watched as Dot and Madzie waved at her before going. One more hour, then she could be with them.

its a weird thing because i've always hated hp, even when i was a kid, but i'm kinda interested in discussing the whole houses thing? possibly because the choice between traits is so fucking random and absurd like idk it makes for funny character analysis. so in short let's go

but also, i'll warn u that my takes on this are usually considered kinda spicy. mostly because other ppl r wrong and interpret the characters terribly i go by the canon that the house ur sorted into represents what you value the most, not necessarily what you are (which is why hermione is gryffindor and not ravenclaw for example, and if i'm not mistaken so's neville? idk idc her worldbuilding is bad) so yeah

magnus is definitely hufflepuff for me, no argument about that. like yes he is very smart but i don't think that he values knowledge/intelligence above all else. wisdom maybe, but even then, magnus' character core is and has always been kindness and loyalty. he values kindness and mutual support and community and equality. it's indisputable that he's hufflepuff for me, not only in values but in personality and actions

i like slytherin alec, first because it fits his character arc. like big racist family who loves fascism and is very traditional sounds like slytherin, and at a very young age he'd be their golden boy tbh [EDIT: ive already gotten anon hate over this so please read these posts before freaking out over this part please and thank you] so like, makes sense. but even later alec i think fits slytherin, although in a different way. family above all else, tradition, and ambition? sounds like him. he's a political shark, he's very traditional, and he's loyal as fuck to his family. i'm not against hufflepuff alec per se but i wouldnt say, even by the end of the series, that alec values kindness/community/equality above all else, tbh

raphael is hufflepuff. again, loyalty, community, kindness. i could maybe kiiiiiindaaaaa see why ppl think he fits slytherin aesthetics with his power suits and shit but also raphael is the least ambitious person in like, this entire show lmao his happy ending is literally to become a priest (like i hate the whole mundane thing but u cant argue that that's an ambitious man lol). throughout the show his whole motivation was always protecting his people and his family, and he was shown to be kind and caring even to shadowhunters. and yes okay there was the heidi plotline but like a- it made no fucking sense anyway (both for his character and just plot-wise, like, she wasn't a daylighter, why would he be after her and not simon, what the fuck) so i simply ignore it, and b- even then it doesn't define him or his values. if ppl can see hufflepuff alec when he handed meliorn over to be tortured for basically no reason and was never shown to be particularly caring beyond the people closest to him, i can say hufflepuff raphael when he continuously extended his hand to people who literally betrayed, used and tortured him

maia is hufflepuff and look i know that this sounds like "all my faves are hufflepuffs" but really tho. endlessly loyal to her pack, wants to build a family, her whole thing was always about making the downworld better and making sure her family was okay, i don't see how community and equality aren't defining values for her. "oh muh muh muh she was willing to kill ppl" there was a war going on buddy. it doesn't mean that maia isn't kind and caring. also, again, she is fierce on her ideals, which happen to be family, equality, and community (both as in the pack and the downworld as a whole, see how hard she tried to mend vamp/wolf relationships). she's a hufflepuff

meliorn is a hard one. i think gryffindor or slytherin? tbh i don't think any of the houses really super fits them because again jk's worldbuilding makes no sense like the four personality traits are kind, smart, brave, and racist there are no other ones you sjw snowflake. and okay i know that i just called slytherin the racist house but that was a joke and i can see slytherin meliorn because loyalty and tradition. not really ambitious but not not ambitious either. tbh i could make points for meliorn in all houses, i think wisdom is definitely something they seek and care about, as is bravery (they're literally a knight), as is community, as is tradition. but also i could see them being like "hey sorting hat put me in slytherin i'm a 'mudblood' they're gonna be super pissed". and going there just to be defiant. but no actually i changed my mind completely, they're ravenclaw. i think wisdom and temperance are what they seek the most, because they want to be a good leader/asset for their people. which kinda circles back to hufflepuff but still.... wisdom. i think it suits them

simon is another hard one for opposite reasons like i don't think he truly fits any of the houses? like meliorn fits them all simon fits none. i know ppl always go with hufflepuff simon cuz they think hufflepuff is the dork house and simon is an anxious bean but fuck that noise, hufflepuff isn't the dork house, it's the house for those who believe in mutual aid and support and equality and that's literally canon, hufflepuff existed because it was the only hogwarts founder who believed that everyone had equal right to education. hufflepuff is a fierce house of sjws and people who want to change the world for the better and YES i am aware that for someone who thinks harry potter sucks i sure have strong opinions about it. but that's the thing like there are so many interesting places jk rowling could've gone and instead she chose to write the most superficial shit ever. anyway my point is that hufflepuff is not the dork house so i'm not gonna sort simon there just because he's a dork. but anyway i wouldnt say that he particularly values any of the house's traits. maybe ravenclaw for creativity? or gryffindor because clary is there and he's like "please sorting hat do me a solid" lol

which okay i guess leads me to clary. definitely gryffindor. bravery with a side of recklessness is definitely her thing. she is fierce and she is proud of it. no argument about that

luke is ravenclaw methinks. i guess could have been slytherin because character arc as shadowhunter but like... he's just a wise and caring figure. i could see hufflepuff but i think his thing is less equality/community and more family, but post-sh luke doesn't exactly fit "proud, ambitious, cunning" either. so yeah methinks ravenclaw. same for alaric i guess

Reverse AU, featuring my chaotic brain process whenever I try to figure stuff out.

Okay, Malec, because of course Malec.

And reversed roles, but also not just reversed roles, because they aren't carbon copies of each other, so I need to make things different, while not making them too different.

Also, if I want Malec as the two main characters, I might have to "extend" their significance? But then again, wouldn't that just make them Mary Sue-ish? And do I care about that?

Okay, so warlock Alec and shadowhunter Magnus. But not simply swapping places, because they are not simply the same person.

So how about we try, Magnus is not HOTI or acting HOTI. Alec might be high warlock, though.

Magnus is the son of the circle founder, but that's his mother. (Since canon didn't give any info on her I can use her as I want).

I still want Asmodeus to be Magnus' father, but I also want Magnus to not have magic, which he would if Asmodeus was a demon.

So how about at the time of Magnus being conceived, Asmodeus was still an arch angel, and sleeping with the shadowhunter was actually the thing that made him fall.

(though at first, no one knows about all that)

(or, well, no one knows about the Asmodeus thing, but that Magnus is the son of the traitor shadowhunter who made the circle is widely known.)

Magnus is openly bisexual, likes to rub his "life-style" into his superior's faces, and is known to favor downworlders (though is often mistrusted by them, because of who his mother is)

Alec is the son of a high ranking demon, don't know which one, though. (could actually even go all the way up to Satan, but that might be too op?)

Or go the other way around. His demonic parent wasn't all that powerful, but Alec has spent most of his immortal life training his magical ability to be more powerful, and so has achieved his own status. Kinda.

Gotta think about this.

So, yeah, unsure about Alec's specific origins.

Makeshift family with Izzy, Jace, Max, no blood relation whatsoever, though.

Max could be the newest member of the family. Jace a vampire, because my brain thinks it's funny if he can't see his reflection. Izzy a fellow warlock, who specializes in another field than Alec, who is more battle oriented with his magic, while Izzy is more interested in the variety of magic.

Clary could be a seelie, Jace could at one point drink Magnus' (extra angel) blood and become a day walker

Then Simon could be the new shadowhunter on the block, though it is questionable if there needs to be that whole complicated backstory with blocked sight and stolen memories… maybe a psychological reaction from onset trauma as a child, that then stabilized over the years, so that he was able to rejoin the shadow world…. Gotta think of this one,too

Magnus and Raphael would be best friends and shadowhunting partners, but not parabatai. (partly because I'm not a big fan of the parabatai bond in general, and partly because I get the vibe that Raphael and Magnus are the kinda people who strife to become good partners without runic assistence.)

The NY institute could actually be the place where the Clave sends its troublemakers, aka anyone who doesn't conform to their ways. (anyone not straight, etc)

Which could lead to the institute being pretty understaffed, (because why have lots of shadowhunters in an institute if you only ever make use of the same 4 people to take care of everything?)

Ragnor would make a good HOTI. I like the thought of Ragnor as HOTI. He would be in a perpetual state of being exasperated and fond of the shadowhunters under his command. (Magnus most of all)

I don't know where to put Luke.

So, meeting between Malec. ...

Maybe something more indirect that leads up to it?

Okay, so the family unit that is Alec, Izzy and Max (and Jace), move to New York.

(maybe the rumor mill goes something like shadowhunters in NY being more easy going with the downworld, or something. Or just that there are less shadowhunters in NY than in other places).

And since Max has had a particularly bad experience and is still so young, they decide that he would benefit from the new environment. And maybe Andrew is the high warlock in new york, but he wants a vacation, so he is all too happy to shove that responsibility into Alec's capable hands.

And then Magnus and his team need to close a rift, so they contact the high warlock, but Alec is with the vamp clan, to help Jace move in or something. So then Izzy goes in his stead.

But unbeknownst to anyone, Max follows them. Because he doesn't trust the shadowhunters not to hurt his "sister".

Closing the rift drains Izzy, and as she collapses, Raphael catches her. Max, who has been spying from a hidden place, can't help but see his sister in danger, and his magic reacts.

But he doesn't have great control, and his emotional turmoil makes like a fire spiral form around him. Izzy's magic is too depleted to try and control the fire, Max is panicking which makes the flames grow ever higher and higher.

So Magnus chucks his jacket and jumps through the fire spiral. There are some tense seconds, before the gathered people can hear the sounds of singing (?) (like a lullabye or something).

And then the firey spiral slows down and shrinks, until they can see (a slightly singed) Magnus rocking young Max and singing to him to calm him down.

Magnus and Raphael (plus Maia and Dot?) keep this little tidbit out of the report, no need to tell the higher ups that there is a warlock child who can't yet properly control his magic.

Alec learns of it all later from both Izzy and Max, and seeks out Magnus to thank him/get a read on him.

(I do like the image of Magnus jumping through fire to calm down a hysterical child, not gonna lie. And then Raphael hitting him over the head for not activating his fire resistence rune first.)

Also, whenever there is a clave envoy sent to visit the institute, Magnus makes sure to put on extra makeup and sparkly jewelry. And wear a t-shirt with a bisexual pun.

His fashion sense normally abhorrs those shirts, but if those stuck up homophobes make an appearance, he needs them to know that he "Likes his women like he likes his men"

And I have actually no real idea for actual plot..... so this is pretty much worthless. *insert rofl emoji here*

18. of course Magnus didn’t take it well that alec lied about the sword. I like how they have it worded “you told Magnus, didn’t you” Alec doesn’t say anything because HE DIDNT TELL MAGNUS! okay but imagine after their dinner and before Magnus spoke to Luke, if Alec couldn’t take it anymore and told Magnus about it. maybe Magnus would have taken the news a little better. because if it’s me and I find out my soulmate lied to me and just watched me talk about trust and still said nothing- I would be mad. would Alec have ever told Magnus about it?

I don’t blame Luke and Magnus doing what needs to be done for their people. it looks extremely bad that the clave lied about a sword, that valentine walked around as Magnus for a while, that Valentine hasn’t been reprimanded all that much, and that he got out again!!!!!! Valentine has escaped so many times and when the clave has more focus on lying to the downworld, I’d have a hard time trusting them as well no matter who I’m with

if anyone remembers, Luke spent the first half of the season being a shitty leader while Magnus hasn’t been shown to be around his people but I doubt Magnus would leave them be. the difference between Magnus and Luke as leaders is that Magnus is actually a good leader. we see it being shown many times but more in season one. (when Magnus hosts the downworlders at his lair, when he decides to hide out with his people) (I haven’t seen him put his focus on them much in this season much) whereas Luke puts clary first 50% of the time and the 50%, he remembers he’s lack leader

while she does raise a few points. I’ve been hard on Luke because he did (unknowingly) lead his lack into slaughter. he made clary more of a focus/priority in early season two. he only remembered the pack when he needed a favor for clary. it’s only later season two when Maia gets chipped that he starts to take more notice to his pack

Magnus is my favorite character (with alec) but we haven’t seen him be a high warlock that much in this season. this is on the writers, not Magnus for taking away some of his people. I saw Magnus help Simon, Raphael, reminisce with Dot but I haven’t really seen Magnus actually help his warlocks about Valentine that I can remember. he helped clary the most and he’s always down to help alec.

I blame the writers for this unless their goal was to have magnus be shit at balancing career and relationship then they achieved that aspect. but they didn’t need to take away Magnus’s warlocks or have magnus help clary and jace 24/7 who he has no reason to help especially with the way they treat mags. but we know magnus is selfless and the best person ever. but it’s just a shame (my opinion) that they took away ragnor, Catarina doesn’t show up until either 2x19 or 2x20, and has really only one main scene worh dot, and he’s not shown with other warlocks throughout the season before this episode

I’m sorry but it bothers me so much because this is out of pocket for magnus too but I know he cares about his people so much. magnus said he can’t have children and he looks at the warlocks as his own. so for magnus not to be shown around with the warlocks, it doesn’t make sense. unless the goal from the beginning was to show unstable leadership then congrats y’all achieved that

30. Luke: I don’t really want a war

it’s funny how most downworlders are like I don’t want a war with shadowhunters but most shadowhunters seem eager almost to hurt the downworld. not all of them want a revolt obviously because they do so much to prevent a war by hiding valuable information but they have people in the shadowhunter world who don’t seem to care if downworlders die or get hurt and who can’t stand to be in the same room as downworlders

Sway Me More

Flufftober Day 4: Music (Read on AO3) Gentle music drifts through the loft from Magnus’ vintage record player. Dot is pretty sure that, if they let him, Magnus would hire live music to play from the corner of the room during the rare, once-a-year gatherings between the small group of them consisting of the two of them, Ragnor, Catarina, and Tessa.

Warlocks rarely gather in groups unless there’s an emergency, and more than that Tessa is almost always at the Spiral Labyrinth these days and Ragnor, well, Ragnor just hates socializing in general. Dot wouldn’t be surprised to hear this is the only day the entire year he leaves the seclusion of his home so far in the country there isn’t another soul for miles.

It’s Magnus who brings them together. Magnus, the socialite of their group, who ensures they don’t lose touch with one another at least once a year. It’s something that’s easy to do with eternity sprawled out in front of you, the way mortals push something off a few extra weeks, then another month, until they haven’t reached out to that friend for a year or two or five. For warlocks that turns into decades, sometimes centuries, without truly meaning to drift away.

“Dance with me,” Dot says to Catarina, extending a hand. Cat is currently lounging on Magnus’ sofa alone while Tessa, Ragnor, and Magnus have an animated discussion over Lilith-knows-what on the other side of the room, but if they didn’t feel the need to call them over Dot’s certain it’s some niche, boring subject she’d likely tune out of anyway.

“What?” Cat asks, surprised.

Dot raises an eyebrow. It wouldn’t be the first time the two of them danced together. In fact, this isn’t the first time the two of them have seen each other this year.

“C’mon, have a little fun,” Dot practically begs, bouncing eagerly on the balls of her feet. “This music is so much better than me playing songs off my phone in my bedroom. And there’s room to move.”

Cat hums. “I think I prefer the club we went to in Prague,” she muses.

“We could go there,” Dot suggests. “Bet we could portal in for a dance and be back before those three even realize we’re gone.”

“I did here Ragnor say the word ‘multi-dimensional’ a minute ago. They’re going to be at it for a while,” Cat jokes, raising her voice just loud enough to carry over the music and across the room.

“And if we use that to-” Ragnor gives the briefest pause to interject a loud “-I heard that!-” into the middle of his sentence. “-expand the fields covered by a single portal, we could-”

Dot and Catarina share a look and then break into simultaneous giggles. “So? Here, or Prague?” Dot prompts, mostly because she doesn’t want there to be another option. She doesn’t want Cat to say no.

“Alright,” Cat says, taking Dot’s outstretched hand and allowing herself to be pulled up from the sofa. “But only because I used all my energy saying no to Madzie’s puppy eyes earlier, and now I’ve none left to fight yours.”

Dot grins. “Why would you want to fight these eyes?” Dot asks innocently, pulling Cat close as they begin to sway. “You love these eyes,” she murmurs against the side of Cat’s neck where her head comes to rest.

“I do,” Cat agrees, her voice a whisper in Dot’s ear. “I love more than just your eyes…” she adds, her voice lower, and Dot can swear she feels Catarina smirk at the shiver that runs down Dot’s spine.

It isn’t that they’re a secret, so much as what they have right now is undefined, and they’d rather figure out if it’s strictly casual or something more before subjecting themselves to the endless commentary of their friends, however good-natured the inevitable teasing would be. But they decided that if the others find out, then they find out, and that’s probably the only reason why Dot is currently spinning Cat out and pulling her back in, listening to the sound of Cat’s surprised laughter mix with the music around them.

“Don’t think I won’t dip you,” Dot warns, but with an edge of flirtation to her tone. “You might have a few inches on me but you forget how strong I am.”

“Oh, trust me, dear, I do not,” Cat replies back, pulling Dot closer, their hips swaying faster to match the tempo of the jazzy horns that fill the room. Dot feels her face heat up slightly at the memory of their last meeting, of her strength pinning Cat up against a wall and-

Their flirtatious back-and-forth is cut short by the accusatory voice of Magnus.

“How?!” Magnus asks, the question aimed at Dot. She fears they were a bit too obvious for a moment until Mangus continues. “How did you get her to dance? I’ve been trying to drag her out with me for ages.”

Dot and Cat share a knowing look, and matching grins. “What can I say?” Dot replies smoothly as the momentary spike in her heart rate evens back out. “It’s part of my charm.”

“I have plenty of charm…” Magnus mumbles to himself, frowning. “Cat, you are not getting out of the next invitation. Not with moves like that. You’ll have to tell me where you picked them up.”

Dot watches Magnus closely, the way he glances between the two of them with his last statement as if he suspects there’s more here than they’re letting on, but he turns back to Ragnor and Tessa without prying further.

“Sorry,” Dot says, not sure if she means for getting Cat roped into another night out or the anticipated interrogation from Magnus.

“I’m not,” Cat tells her, taking her arms and pulling her back in to sway with the music. “It’s worth it for another dance with you.”

Ok to piggyback after the other anon I have to ask. What type of music do they play, is Cat single and into women and how does Malec work 👀👀

THESE ARE ALL VERY IMPORTANT QUESTIONS TO ASK YES!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH (other ask)

What music do they play? Fun pop-rock songs are their favorite to cover. Catarina is their main singer, so here are Come On Eileen and Jessie’s Girl sung by ladies because… nICE. They all try their hand a writing original stuff tho, these are usually love songs because Magnus, Catarina, and Raphael are all very sappy and romantic. Expect for Ragnor’s, his are kinda along the line of They Might Be Giants which are a ton of fun to perform.

Catarina is 100% into ladies, she and Dot have an on and off thing that drives Catarina’s roommates crazy because Dot is a mutual friend to Magnus and Ragnor (and Raphael once he gets to know her). So sometimes Dot is just hanging out in their kitchen in the morning as Cat makes breakfast and other times Catarina will run over to them on campus and be like HIDE ME FROM DOT!!! Dot comes to most of their shows and is their go-to if they forget something and need someone to run back and get it. This can be awkward tho if Catarina is singing one of her love songs. 

HOW DOES MALEC WORK OKAY Magnus comes home ranting about this new grad student who thinks he can just WALK IN and take the BEST LECTURE HALL. Magnus has not met this student yet, but he has a full rant in mind when he does. Ragnor, Catarina, and Raphael listen to all this patiently (they all are in different departments so this grad student hasn’t touched any of their good lecture halls so no harm no foul). Quick aside for what they are studying: Magnus = History and Biology double PhD (“how are you still alive” “I don’t know, my blood is just caffeine at this point”), Catarina, med school (surgeon, also caffeine blood), Ragnor = law degree (you guessed it, caffeine blood), and Raphael = psychology (trying to get them all to eat real food and go to therapy because god damn it, he doesn’t have time or his degree yet)

BACK TO MALEC so Magnus is introduced to this new student by his advisor, because oh great they share an advisor and said advisor wants Magnus to show THE LECTURE HALL THIEF around. Then Magnus is face to face with this gorgeous towering guy with a kinda goofy lopsided smile, shaking hands with this guy (and those hands are BIG and WARM and STRONG and Magnus should stop thinking about them), and now knows lecture hall thief is named Alexander “call me Alec” Lightwood. 

Magnus shows Alec around the history department and the library, and then asks if maybe he would like to get drinks sometime? And Alec has just been following this guy around, trying not to stare but DEFINITELY staring when Magnus can’t see him. Because who is this gorgeous smart guy who was just dropped into Alec’s life? Alec says “I’m free now?” to drinks and then wants to fall into the ground because TOO FAST COMING ON TOO STRONG but Magnus just smiles and says “Me too” and suddenly drinks becomes a dinner date and then plans to see each other for coffee the next morning.

Magnus does all of this without even dropping the “I’m in a band” but be sure that Raphael and Ragnor never let him forget that he is dating the Lecture Hall Thief. Ragnor even writes a silly song about it which Magnus will never let them play in public (Alec gets to hear it though, and that’s how he realizes Magnus’ friends have accepted him. Mutual teasing is all part of their little group’s dynamic).
