Finally finished the beginning of the story Ridge family trees. The white "?" mean their fam are either confirmed or assumed dead. Or, in Oddsight's case, were never known in the first place.

Now to follow through and do the rest

Meet Flora, the latest addition to my outside cat colony :3

Unlike the other cats, who are truly feral, Flora is extremely comfortable and affectionate with pretty much everyone, loves other cats, is afraid of dogs, but very curious about them (I think she'd do great with chill dogs), and she always wants tto enter my house 😂

I've been calling and emailing her bio to numerous rescues, but if they don't take her soon, I'm getting her spayed myself. I think someone just dropped her off because her level of comfort with me almost immediately is troublesome, and I've scoured local apps about missing pets and no one's looking for her. Judging by her coat and teeth, she's about one year old.

MITTENS

She’s one of the cats from the local cat colonies around town, and my dear ma decided she was gonna be the cat lady. Despite us having a bunch of dogs.

So she started feeding the wild cats. Lo and Behold one stays with us constantly now. She’s wild and an outside cat, plus we have dogs so she can’t come in, but. Cat!

We also have other cats that come and go, but kittens is solely ours.

Aaaand there goes my favorite character. Shoved out of their own scene. That's honestly a good analogy of how I treat my "favorite" characters. XD

Anyways- no fighting while Shatter is here! Only FRENSHIP.

Shatter is one of those bright, bubbly characters that somehow always sounds like her sentences should end with a question mark.

not to be pretentious about cat behavior in the warriors fandom of all places but real life cat colonies are not nearly as simple or universally structured as a lot of you seem to think they are. "just adult females and kittens every time" doesn't even begin to cover it. the sisters aren't some bastion of realism.

this is an article from a couple years ago that i read recently that gives a good overview of what we actually know about cat colonies, which can be broadly summarized as "it depends"

hi hi! cat clowder update . from october 12th 2023

second day ive been hanging out with the clowder. i want to give a name to the group.. im thinking train clowder. or oil clowder. they live in the train car... conductor clowder..station clowder..subway clowder'??

ANYWAYS. i brought some wet cat food for them : ) at first i only saw Colmillo (the white one) and Solecito. but soon Daisy and the tuxedo kitty (havent nicknamed him, thinking Sam) showed up also.

I am learning more about them. Daisy is very cautious, she seems to have a loner personality. actually, i dont think you can see her in any of these photos LOL! she was there all the time , but instead of laying down, she kept going away for a bit, walking, then coming back. making rounds. it seems she may prefer to be alone.

Colmillo and Solecito seem to get along well. They seem to stay close together most of the time.

The gray kitty, i think im nicknaming him Nebby. Well, he is part of the clowder! He seems to be very delicate and curious... likes to approach from above but keeping his distance! he has very beautiful emerald green eyes, that you cant see well in this photo (thank you sun)

The tabby brothers, Trueno and Tormenta. I have learned to differentiate them from eachother! Trueno has a more wide-set face, that also appears smaller because he doesnt have as much cheek fluff as Tormenta (may trueno be a girl?) . He also has 6 black stripes on his tail. Tormenta, has a more balanced face, with cheek fluff, and 4 black stripes on his tail. Their eyes are a different hue as well.

Trueno seems to be playful and silly! I saw him playing happily with a piece of trash >_< he was rolling around ehehe. cute ~~

Anyways! Development! I spent around an hour or so with them in the early afternoon before class. Then, i had the opportunity to go back to them a bit later, i had bought a muffin so i wanted to give them a few crumbs and just say hi again.

Well! Colmillo surprised me because she got quite close! I didnt dare try to pet her yet, but she bumped into my leg a bit??! Amazing! I hope we can become good friends soon..... ! I think if Colmillo becomes closer to me, Solecito may get the courage to also come closer.

Colony Hierarchy

Leader

All colonies have a different name for their leader and all other roles in the colony. The leader of Harvest colony is referred to as the "head" and takes on no new name. They do however receive 3 lives to aid them in protecting their colony. No cat knows where these lives spring from. Only that they only come to a leader after they are unanimously viewed as such.

Second in commmad

The second in command is called the "paw." They are most commonly a relative of the leader. If the leader has no living relatives then the position goes to the highest voted on cat by all colony members. Including kits. In normal circumstances the position would go to the oldest kit of the head. All other cats below the head and paw are referred to as the claws of the colony.

Archivest

Archivest are the history keepers and story tellers of the colony. They are also medics and keepers of colony camp. If the archivest have their paws full with patients then the responsibility of keeping the colony camp clean goes to the wanderers. Just as the paw and Archivest oldest living child or relative become the next Archivest. Archivest receive 3 lives just as a leader would. Where these lives come from? Still yet to be known.

Mentors

Straightforward. Any and any cat of age can be a mentor and in larger colonies it is an official position to have

Guard

Again straight forward. Guards main responsibility is to guard the camp entrance and perimeter of the camp. The most devoted guards very often stay out all day patrolling. Especially if there is any sign of danger.

Hunters

Providers of the colony. Small colonys tend to not have hunters and instead all cats (Archivest, head, paw, guards, wanderers) pitch in to keep the colony fed until hunters can be trained.

Spiritualists

Something not all colonies have. It's very rare but sometimes there are cats who claim to have a connection with those who have long passed. Cats who are passed are called the gone. They are seeked out for their guidance but do not have a very high standing in the colony because of the scepticism surrounding the idea of speaking with dead cats. These cats tend to receive a single extra life. Seemingly as thanks for being a mouth piece?

Wanderers

Young cats who are undergoing training. The earliest kits start to train is 3 moons, being taught basic stuff while still in the nursery. When they hit 6 moons they become official wanderers and are free to wander the surrounding camp and territory.

Kits

Straightforward. Kits are kits

Council

Only consist of elders. All elders of the colony form the council and are treated with the highest respect for their long time experience.

Animals outside the colony

Cats outside the colony are referred to as foreigns. They sometimes create small groups of their own but are not viewed as proper colony's.

Birds are often called mouthpieces. Especially ravens and crows and are uncommonly used as means of long distance communication between the colony's. This is an outdated view tho, considering crows and ravens occasionally try to eat kits.

Dogs are called Scorns as a kind of slur because of there tendency to kill and attack cats and drive off prey.

Large animals such as horses, cows, and goats are often called monsters or thunders. Cats who aren't careful can get crushed if the animals stampede.

Andddd that's it. This is the rule of hierarchy I'll be using from here on out! Also fair warning there will be a minor style shift going forward. I've put more practice in drawing cats because I wasn't satisfied with how I've been drawing them. So I did something about it! An official ref for all characters should be up by tomorrow night or the next day. Depending on how much work school piles on me.

TNR stray cats

Sometimes, the most you can do is TNR strays, and leave out the cheapest kibble you can afford with a bowl of water. It still helps, A LOT.

Contact your local Feral Cat Coalition or Humane Society and help reduce the stray population. I have had stray cats steal my heart and/or pass away. But I always TNR them and feed animals in need.

Long story short... this is my Dad several years ago, looking at our lovely cat named "Mama" She was originally a feral outside. We fed her and her kittens, but one time saw one of her kittens hurt. My heart couldn't take it, so we took him in. Sadly, he was taken from us too soon. So, in our grief, we took in his mom to try to fill the hole. And she has been with us ever since. She basically saw that she was getting regular food, warm places, Comfy beds, strange tall things that liked to talk to her in funny voices, and LOTS of pets/cuddles... That she decided that she wasn't going to leave. Making herself, and indoor cat. This is one of my favorite shots of them together. Mama does love me, but I will totally get ditched 95% of the time, for dad. Also, our cat colony we have outside, is mainly her lineage. With a few cats that are unknown if they have connection to her. But I want to make a family tree/identification chart some time for all the outside cats.

Today i was able to pet both Colmillo and Solecito (pictured above). I couldnt take photos of me petting Colmillo, cuz my phone died LOL ill get some next time.. IM DYING WAAA im so happy im going to explode seriously goddd. They're so soft.
