My feels on Deities

I kinda low key feel I want to believe in a higher power that could offer me some wisdom and or protection but I also just cant see that happening. I feel a lot of deities are like objects to a lot of people practicing as in they just decide this god is watching over them because they wanna believe that and I just don’t wanna do that I wanna honestly believe that something higher up also believes in me?

Don’t get me wrong i’m confident in myself enough but to have a god or goddess on my side would be pretty lit and chill to have like a special bond but I also don’t want to just claim to have that special bond when its not a real thing. I don’t know what i’m trying to do or what point i’m trying to make with this post besides just writing down my current thoughts on the subject but like maybe someone can like share their thoughts on the matter with me to help me like understand how some connections are made with deities (without randomly deciding to claim said deity)
