No, you know what? While I'm all fired up about modern art and outsider art, let me introduce you to the works of James Hampton.
Pictured above is his monumental Throne of the Third Heaven of the Nations' Millennium General Assembly.
With scant education and no formal art education, James Hampton made these pieces out of his intense religious fervor and his own desire to create:
In 1950, Hampton rented a garage on 7th street in northwest Washington [DC]. Over the next 14 years, Hampton built a complex work of religious art inside the garage with various scavenged materials such as aluminum and gold foil, old furniture, pieces of cardboard, light bulbs, jelly jars, shards of mirror and desk blotters held together with tacks, glue, pins and tape. The complete work consists of 180 objects, many of them inscribed with quotes from the Book of Revelation. The centerpiece of the exhibit is a throne, seven feet tall, built on the foundation of an old maroon-cushioned armchair with the words "Fear Not" at its crest. The throne is flanked by dozens of altars, crowns, lecterns, tablets and winged pulpits. Wall plaques on the left bear the name of apostles and those on the right list various biblical patriarchs and prophets such as Abraham and Ezekiel. The text The Throne of the Third Heaven of the Nations' Millennium General Assembly was written on the objects in Hampton's handwriting.
He constructed all his pieces from materials he found or scavenged himself, "such as aluminum and gold foil, old furniture, pieces of cardboard, light bulbs, jelly jars, shards of mirror and desk blotters held together with tacks, glue, pins and tape."
It's not clear if Hampton himself regarded himself as an artist, a visionary, a prophet, or none of the above. His work, however, is regarded as art in the same way that Michelangelo's Pieta is regarded as art: art of a religious subject or concept.
He also "kept a 108-page loose-leaf notebook titled St James: The Book of the 7 Dispensation. Most of the text was written in an unknown script that remains undeciphered. ... Some of the text was accompanied by notes in English in Hampton's handwriting. In the notebook, Hampton referred to himself as St. James with the title 'Director, Special Projects for the State of Eternity' and ended each page with the word 'Revelation'."
The art was not discovered until after Hampton's death in 1964, when the owner of the garage, Meyer Wertlieb, came to find out why the rent had not been paid. He knew that Hampton had been building something in the garage. When he opened the door, he found a room filled with the artwork. Hampton had kept his project secret from most of his friends and family. His relatives first heard about it when his sister came to claim his body. When Hampton's sister refused to take the artwork, the landlord placed an advertisement in local newspapers. Ed Kelly, a sculptor, answered the advertisement and was so astounded by the exhibit, he contacted art collector Alice Denney. Denney brought art dealers Leo Castelli and Ivan Karp, and artist Robert Rauschenberg, to see the exhibit in the garage. Harry Lowe, the assistant director of the Smithsonian Art Museum, told the Washington Post that walking into the garage "was like opening Tut's tomb."
His work is now on display at the Smithsonian American Art Museum.

I started reading again after so many months: "The Revolution is an eternal dream) by Andrés Rivera.
Trad: Is there any revolution that can compensate for men's pain or is it an impossible dream?
The turbulent days of May 1810 are long gone. After being one of the representatives of the First Junta and the great orator of the revolution, Juan José Castelli is confined to his house, defeated as a political man and consumed by an illness that will lead to his death. With the little strength he has left he now writes, in a red-covered notebook, his thoughts and memories. There is no longer any room for heated controversies between adversaries. It is that “winter arrives at the doors of a city that exterminates utopia but not its memory.” And that ill-fated desire to forge a free and fair country among all will become the obsession of his last days: is there any revolution that can compensate for the pain of men or is it simply an impossible dream?

Diaries as a corporate gift are the best choice because they are convenient, used for several purposes, and above the all, it's a practical choice for gifting. There is no dilemma for gender biases though they are made for everyone and are lucrative. The collection of diaries features cost benefits, advertising benefits and customization profits among various others.

My work have sent a wee 'care' package around I know a lot of people dislike energy companies - employees also dislike em - although my company does not PRODUCE energy, it sells it, and the energy it sells is mostly renewable (you pay more for it, but its better) but I will say, getting little... gifts?... to make working / life a little easier is really nice!
I've always said i like my job so i feel okay in posting this, but they sent out like, this box with all eco-friendly things in it and a card explaining HOW they are eco friendly.
So I got a ceramic mug with the logo lazered on it, because thats actually better than getting inks and filters AND it uses less electricity - and a 100% cork mat to put it on.
A stainless steel water bottle by Black & Blum (who are very eco aware, I love their stuff)
A 100% recycled hardback notebook by Castelli Samoa (zero plastic content and completely re-recyclable)
A Bio-plastic pen that offers a lifetime of free refills (senator nature plus) and most of it is made from sugar cane (? that is so cool ?)
and a charger called Mr Bio that is made from wheat-straw and tyvec paper (the paper that your festival wristbands are made of) and it's got like... 5 different ports to charge shit.
Tumblr media
I haven't seen anything like this before and I think it's really cool!
Anyway, on top of this, the box all this stuff came in isn't branded, so it cuts down on ink and filters, the courier they used to deliver is carbon neutral and the card inside is 100% chlorine free and 'infinitely recyclable'
Anyway, I think it's really important to kinda... notice and shout out when a large company does something really nice for it's employees AND when they take into consideration the actual ethics they preach?
Like one of my work perks was getting to plant trees to offset my carbon footprint, and I added some more because I do think that every little helps, and I'm actually carbon negative now without having to change anything in my day-to-day (I drive less because I don't commute to work, I recycle my paper, I eat mostly veggies out of ease)...
Like... it was really NICE of them to send a gift, but it's also really nice to see them actually DO the thing they advertise. Like it feels not like lip service?

🌸 If you get this, answer with 3 random facts about yourself and send it to the last 7 blogs in your notifications, anonymously or not 🌸
Huh. Hm.
I have a wall in my apartment that's covered with dozens of extremely random pictures. Ugly selfies with friends, blurry pictures of people in the middle of doing something, saved snapchats with text and everything, those kinds of pictures. It's a total mess, but every photo represents a happy memory caught on camera. I love that wall.
I'm a total snob when it comes to pens and notebooks. If I'm going to get some productive writing done by hand, I need my Ballograf Epoca pens and my Castelli notebooks.
I'm not only a sleep talker, but also, apparently, a self-aware sleep talker. According to my boyfriend, I often wake him up in the middle of the night by saying something incomprehensible, followed up by a slightly more comprehensible "nevermind, I'm sleep talking", and then I'm out again.
Yup. Random facts.

4, 9, 11, 18, 29, and 33 for CONNOR please i need to know more about viv’s depressed dad
LOL thank u sm ami. but connor isn’t depressed :) he’s doing great :) idk why you’d say that :)
4. would your character sing along to a vaguely familiar song, even if they messed up the lyrics as they went?
OH yes. connor likes to sing bc he loves the sound of his own voice. i think he has a good repertoire of songs from marcenza about being a dashing little rogue or taunting the cops that are pretty fresh in his mind, but his favorites are the songs he heard in castelly when he was a kid that he only half-remembers. so he probably does this often
9. if someone gave them flowers, what would they do with them?
completely depends on the person. for the most part he'd probably just drop them in a gutter on the way home LOL. the exception to this is if the flowers are a useful ingredient for beverages, recreational drugs, or poisons, in which case he would grind them up and use them. if he liked the person, he'd make a show of gratitude but do the same thing if they aren't useful. but if it was someone he really loved he'd hang onto them for a while, and probably sketch them in his notebook before they get too old and crumbly and fall apart
11. how do they feel about casual endearments? (babe, etc)
words like babe, love, sweetheart etc are alien to him. he's never in his life been called by them. connor also generally does not want to be referred to with any kind of diminutive. just use his name. if the love is in your voice he will hear it. however, nicknames are his only language of casual endearment. even though he usually doesn't like when he gets a nickname, connor loves to GIVE them to other people. they’re mostly of the shortened name variety because he's not that creative, but words like 'kid' or 'pal' or 'buddy' or even ‘bastard’ also count, and can be very full of love. the issue is that these same words can also be a taunt or threat so it’s hard to tell
18. would they sing a lullaby, if the opportunity arose?
aw. i think yes. he might be a bit bashful about it because the man is mildly allergic to / not especially practiced in tenderness, but he would do it for someone he loves
29.  if they wear any, where did they get their jewelry?
connor has a ton of rings, necklaces, and the gold hoop he has in his ear. i think most of them he stole from random houses in marcenza. some of them were given to him by friends, after also being stolen from random houses in marcenza. I think a lot of them have some story attached to them. like, look, this nice garnet ring I swiped on the job where i fell in the canal from the fourth story window and got dragged out of the water in some fishwife's net, and thank the gods for that, she saved my stupid ass, now THIS pretty little chain was from the job where we forgot to check for dogs first....blah blah blah ad infinitum
33. where are they in a group hug? (dead center, outside, etc)
very outside and the last to join. it’s bad form to expose your back!

10 Questions Tag
I was tagged by the wonderful @git-writing-good for this one, thanks!
1) Day writer or night writer?
Mostly a night writer as I’m not the best at going to bed at a reasonable time but I carry notebooks around so I can write anytime, anywhere.
2) Coffee, tea, or other?
Tea! I will drink coffee and hot chocolate is wonderful but tea will always be my one true love.
3) What’s the most you ever wrote in a day?
Not sure exactly, probably about 2k during nanowrimo.
4) What is your least favourite book?
Oooh damn, tough question. Probably The Roanoke Girls - it romanticises incest so fucking much and at the end blame the rapist’s wife (who was like 17 when she met him and has clearly been manipulated and gaslighted herself) for him raping their daughters. Like what?? He gets away with it cause he’s handsome but she gets arrested, its the worst.
5)  Which writing program do you prefer? Or if you don’t own a computer, your preferred medium of writing in general? (Journal, Typewriter, Backs of Envelopes, etc.)
I use Google Docs when I’m on my laptop but I much prefer good old-fashioned journals. Moleskine and Castelli are my favourite brands.
6) What’s your zodiac star sign?
Sagittarius.
7) Pineapple on pizza: good or bad?
Good!
8) Emojis: cute or tacky?
A bit of both!
9) What is the one thing about your WIP you think will be the strongest selling point of your book?
How character driven they are as well as witches and faeries and other magic in the modern world (urban fantasy still seems pretty popular). But mostly that it’s queer af, we need the rep.
10) Do you have any signed books? If not, which book in your possession would you most like to be signed?
Nope unfortunately not. But I would kill to meet Neil Gaiman and have him sign any of my books by him.
Tagging: @quillwritten @koalascribbles @draconako
