This has happened to me with so many stories, both the officially published and the fanfics.

In terms of published novels, there are quite a few books I read as a teenager which have passages that still stick out in my mind years after I first read them. Gingersnaps by Cathy Cassidy. Cookie by Jacqueline Wilson. Boys Beware by Jean Ure. The Noughts and Crosses series by Malorie Blackman (especially Knife Edge and Checkmate).

Admittedly, sometimes these things stick with me because of how weird they are, not necessarily because of quality. The Strawberry Panic light novel omnibus ... for example ... has far too many ... ellipses ... than is ... necessary ... but I keep coming back to it. And I think that's because the writing, while cheesy, captures the otherworldly nature of the three girls' schools it centres on - it feels cut off from reality, a place where anything can happen, and it's silly and kind-of fun for that reason.

In terms of fanfiction, what matters is whether a story hits me right in the feels. That guarantees I'll remember it.

I was about thirteen or fourteen when I discovered the Simpsons fanfic Lisa Fitzgerald, and I think was the first fanfic that ever made me cry. It had an alternate history for Lisa, one in which she wasn't born a Simpson but became one through adoption, after being rescued from an abusive stepfather. Watching her as she tried to learn to trust others and stand up for herself was pretty heartwarming.

In fact, my favourite fanfics tend to be the hurt/comfort ones - the ones where a character who's suffered is helped to heal and grow by the love of the people around them. The Sonic Cinematic Universe fanfic 5 Times Sonic Caught Himself Before Calling Them 'Mom & Dad' and 1 Time He Didn't Hold Back by @humanityinahandbag is a great example of this.

That's doesn't mean I don't also appreciate angst in its purer form. Recently I had my heart absolutely shattered by @aparticularbandit and their Jessica Rabbit RP blogs' Timeline Canon (first half here and second half here). It starts with Jessica's origins and her blossoming relationship with Roger Rabbit, but then it hits them with a curse, and we see Jessica's desperation to save her husband, and also her temptation to be with other people, and there's heartbreak and regret and deeper themes about what true love is and what it means to be happy and what attitude to have towards life and death...

Okay, I've gushed about it enough, just read it already.

the one thing i want to be able to do as a writer is make people come back to something ive written. i want that piece of text to haunt them, i want their thoughts to be briefly consumed by this. i want this to be something they remember long after its time. thats the one thing i want to do

December 11th - Siryn 

Theresa Cassidy is the daughter of the X-Man known as Banshee (Sean Cassidy) and his former wife, Maeve Rourke Cassidy.  During his time as an agent for Interpol, Sean was sent on an undercover mission for many months, not knowing that Maeve was pregnant when he left. Maeve gave birth to a girl whom she named Theresa.  Not long thereafter, Maeve was tragically killed in a terrorist bombing.  Sean’s cousin, Tom Cassidy, took custody of the baby and raised her as his own, hiding the truth from Sean as well as Theresa for many years.  

Tom Cassidy was himself a Mutant, as well as a villain who frequently teamed up with the fellow super villain, The Juggernaut.  Theresa’s own Mutant powers manifested in late childhood and she possessed the same sonic powers as her father.  These powers entail the ability to emit a high pitched sonic scree that creates significant concussive force.  Along with offering a formidable offensive weapon in the form of a sonic blast, when coupled with a specialized gliding suit, it can provide short term flight.  

Theresa was a sweet and gentle young woman, but also impressionable and anxious for the approval of the man she believed was her father.  As such, she was willing to use her powers as a super villain to do Tom Cassidy’s bidding.  She took on the alias of ‘Siryn’ and accompanied her father to the States where she battled Spider-Woman (Jessica Drew).  Theresa did not fare well in her initial outing; her heart was not in it and she was easily defeated by Spider-Woman.  Tom Cassidy and The Juggernaut, meanwhile, were defeated by The X-Men.  Following his capture, Tom Cassidy exonerated Theresa, stating that he had coerced her.  He additionally revealed her true identity as the daughter of Sean Cassidy.  

Still a minor, Theresa was not charged and released into the custody of the X-Men.  They reunited her with her biological father and the two lived together on Muir Island along with Sean’s girlfriend, Moira MacTaggart.  

Theresa would go on to resume the guise of Siryn whist acting as a member of the Fallen Angels.  She later became a member of Cable’s X-Force.  She would go on to serve as a part of the X-Corporation as well as Jaimie Maddrox’s X-Factor Investigations.  

At one point, Theresa had a fling with Jaime Maddrox (unaware that she had actually slept with one of his sentient dupes).  The affair resulted in Theresa becoming pregnant.  She had the baby and named him Sean after her father.  Tragically, when Maddrox toughed the newborn he unintentionally absorbed in that it was essentially a dupe.  Losing her baby in this fashion was unbearably traumatic to Theresa and she fell into a deep depression.  Theresa was ultimately able to get through her sadness in part by getting back in touch with her Catholic faith.  Thereafter she retired the codename of Siryn and took on her father's former mantle as Banshee.    

A version of Siryn featured in the Fox Films movies, X2: X-Men United and X-Men: The Last Stand, portrayed by actress Shauna Kain. The heroine first appeared in the pages of Spider-Woman Vol. 1 #37 (1980).

The Uncanny X-Men #148 - Cry, Mutant!

Scott and Lee start exploring the strange, alien-like city that appeared near the island they were stranded on. They start to have a sort of romantic moment, but Scott stops. He doesn't want to get involved with another woman yet. He thinks about Jean...

At Xavier's mansion, Nightcrawler and Wolverine are training. Angel tries to convince Storm and the Professor that Wolverine is too dangerous to have on the team. When they disagree, Angel flies away. Banshee and Colossus are making repairs to the Blackbird while Illyana watches. Illyana asks Colossus if she will be able to turn into steel someday too. Colossus says the Professor should probably examine Illyana before she returns to her parents' home in Russia.

Banshee goes upstairs and finds a woman waiting for him. Her name is Theresa Rourke and she has a note for Banshee from Black Tom Cassidy, Banshee's cousin. Banshee reads the letter which explains that Theresa is Banshee's daughter from his previous wife who passed away. Banshee is excited to have found Theresa. Moira, watching all this, seems upset and goes outside. Storm follows Moira and comforts her.

Elsewhere, in the city, a manhole cover opens and a man crawls out. He calls himself Caliban and says he is lonely and looking for friends. He senses "his own kind" in a building nearby and he approaches it. Security guards in the building try to stop him, but Caliban converts their emotion into physical force and he throws the security guards aside. He rushes upstairs to meet the people he senses.

Upstairs Ororo, Kitty, Stevie Hunter, and Jessica Drew (aka Spider-Woman) are waiting to see Dazzler perform. And perform she does. While singing, Dazzler uses her powers to create a light show for the audience. But then, Caliban arrives and people in the audience start screaming. Kitty rushes off to help. Dazzler notices something is wrong so she keeps singing and makes the light show even brighter to distract the audience, putting them under a kind of spell. Ororo and Jessica get their costumes on and they are Storm and Spider-Woman!

Kitty tries to fight Caliban, but he grabs her and runs away. Storm and Spider-Woman chase after him. Caliban throws a table at Storm and punches Spider-Woman out of a window. He jumps down an elevator shaft with Kitty under his arm. Storm and Spider-Woman recover and follow Caliban. Outside they are able to subdue him and get Kitty (who has fainted) back. Caliban apologizes to them all and quickly disappears back underground.

Meanwhile, back in the strange city in the sea - Scott and Lee discuss options for getting food and getting rescued. Suddenly a voice. A man says that he is surprised to learn that his island isn't deserted. Scott recognizes that voice. It's -

1- Denzel Washington.

I know people keep saying he plays the same roles over and over, but I've seen the Glory. I've seen clips of Malcom X. I've seen Much Ado About Nothing. I've seen Remember the Titans. Denzel Washington is an AcTEUR. The Bone Collector! And yall can suck my toes. And not in a way that'd be fun for toe enjoyers.

2- Jessica Parker Kennedy

Fight me. I know YOU won't fight me. But fight me. For Max alone she deserves it. But I really love the difference between the Noras. She needs something with Recognition. Since Award Seasons was too busy smelling GOT farts to pay attention to Black Sails.

3- Yoo In-na

I've loved her since Touch Your Heart. And her drunk scene in Bo-ra! Deborah! really got me. I wanted to watch the show because of her and I love her character. I love what she brings to her -- the pain and the heartache and the struggles. I heard she was so good in Snowdrop but I don't know that I want to see it. I need her to be in more shit, so I can follow. I'm going to watch te Goblin (eventually) for her and Lee Dong-wook

I honestly can't say she is my top three EVER, but she's my top three right NOW. I feel a lot of feelings when this woman's characters break down. And she does dead eye, completely stripped down stare so well. Whew.

4. lndira Varma

Only lower on the list, because unlike In-na and Jessica -whom I have watched/returned to things for - most of Indira's stuff have come CLOSE to watching for her. Which mostly have to do with how tired/busy/etc I am or if the show was too white for me to tolerate than the level of her skill. She, JPK, and probably Denzel would make it on any 'forever faves' list I had (and that too would not be in order).

5. Katie Cassidy

Sue me. I started Arrow for her. She was my favorite Ruby. I adored Laurel. I don't know man, she deserves recognition.
