Why I Love the Dr. Darling/Thomas Zane pairing:

Come on, this is the easy one, right? There is literally no heterosexual explanation for THAT Final Draft video.

Who’s playing who in this battle of wits. Will Darling’s curiosity get the better of him? What fresh chaos can Thomas conjure? Who is the real experiment, who’s the real artistic subject in this arresting duality. What could they accomplish together, what have they ALREADY dreamed up together? Do they even care when time and space and causality in the Dark Place flow in random streams? The possibilities are as endless as the tides gently pulling them down into the deeper ocean green.

Zane can’t help but enjoy answering the good doctor’s endless stream of questions with more questions as Darling tries in vain to make sense of their shared world. The doctor’s thirst for knowledge is infectious. Zane feeds off of Darling’s inquisitiveness and feels himself reinvigorated, the creative juices flowing with renewed ease. Darling is such a refreshing change from Alan’s dour attitude darkening his doorstep. The part he must play for Alan needs be so crafted so airtight as to bend the writer exactly to his will. But with Darling, there is no role to play, no masks. True artistic expression.

Darling feels he’s found a true equal, not only to his intellect, but an equal to his innermost mind. He’s found someone who won’t just leave him to his own devices with his scientific pursuits, but will join him along the way. Zane is no more a scientist than he is an artist but they match each other on a deeper level. Darling swears he can see the air vibrate and colors shift around Zane it’s not the bottomless drink in his hand talking, though it is are quite helpful. He makes a mental note to add that to the growing list of things to discover about Zane.

Neither of them have ever been good at keeping their clothes on for extended periods of time, this shared space making it even to shed anything and everything holding them back. Thankfully pants aren’t a necessity when you’re collaborating in the House of Zane.
