Background

Jude Thalissa Dubois was born the 31st of May, 1909 of Philip Dubois and Adrienne Minville and was the second child and only daughter of the marriage. She had an older brother, Ètienne, who was three years her senior, and the roommate of her future husband. 

She grew up in Dubois manor and had a loving home and went to Hogwarts, being sorted into Ravenclaw and being a good student, though ofttimes she’d go to detention for being overly opinionated for a woman her age. Though her life took a turn at 21 when she met Lord Nigel Ashbourne, the son of the Duke of Sandringham. The two of them were ‘starcrossed’ lovers for a year until she announced she was pregnant. Nigel was outraged and accused her of seducing him and wanting to tie him down and shunned her. Jude closed herself off and vowed to never trust a wealthy, rich man ever again. 

Hometown

Dubois manor did not have the grandeur of other houses nor was considered fully pureblood, but their wealth and relevance in the profession of physicians in St. Mungo’s and legislators made them respectable enough. It is big enough for hosting 35 people including the Dubois family. She grew up in the centre of Dublin, in Ireland, though she was raised by British and French nannies.

Mother: Adrienne Malia Minville 

A respectable Frenchwoman and daughter of the Headmistress of the Beauxbatons academy, she studied there and belonged into Ombrelune, where she excelled at everything and soon at 14 her parents arranged a marriage to Philip Dubois, who was two years her junior. She was reluctant, but accepted it with the poise of the era. The two of them corresponded for years until Philip came of age and met. It was instant love. They married on August 1905 and had their first child, Étienne, in 1906 and three years later had their only daughter Jude. Jude’s mother was her role model and the two of them loved each other dearly. 

Father: Philip Tristan Dubois 

Philip was the second child of Tristan Dubois, an early retired physician and grew up being bred to be the perfect man of his era and overshadow his sister. At 11, he was engaged to Adrienne Minville, a Frenchwoman he’d never met before and who was three years his senior. He was sorted into Slytherin and followed into his father’s footsteps until he discovered his tyranny and abuse during his engagement after seeing how his sister was treated. He broke ties with his father and never spoke to him again. He married Adrienne out of love in the end and had two children with her, Étienne and Jude. 

Aunt: Blanche Davinia Dubois  

The most beautiful woman of her age, she was bred to be a submissive and obedient wife, but rebelled and retaliated in spite of her father. She became instead independent and one of the best equestrian of her time and tried to marry on her own terms, but her father threatened to do damage to her loved ones and lock her away forever. Fearful, she agreed to his terms. However, on her sixth year, her lover Lionel Astor stepped in and convinced her father that he was a far more suitable groom, and charmed by the boy, granted him her hand in marriage. They married when Blanche was 20 and had three children and a very successful marriage. Jude’s aunt was her role model and one of the most important and influential women in her life.

Jude loved her brother greatly and admired him, even though they collided for many things, but the siblings got on well. When Jude was pregnant of her son Joseph, despite his own opinions on the matter, he was supportive of her and adored little Joseph very much.

Though he was a small child thorought the events, he was Jude’s pillar and is the direct ancestor of the will become Cursebreaker Isabelle Dubois and her infamous brother Jacob. He grew up with two ambitious parents and who knew their rights, and after travelling the world with his mother, he decided to become an Auror, helping people and when he became old, he took his (step)father’s work and continued it.

Some months later, he asked her on a date, but she declined, fearful of being hurt again, for the Brokenshires were very rich and influential, However, months later, she decided to give him a chance and the two of them started dating. When Joseph was only three, they got engaged and a year later were married.

Violet and Jude met when they were placed on the same dorm and the two of them cliqued instantly, resulting in Jude visiting the Selywn-Ellisons and Violet visiting the Dubois, making both families good friends. They were each other’s best friend, being the other’s maids of honour and godmother of Joseph, much to her mother and aunt’s chagrin. 

Rivals: Nigel Ashbourne 

The biological father of Joseph, it went from admiration to true hatred, though hers was more intense. He grew up to be megalomaniac, entitled, proud, jealous and very narcissistic. The moment Jude told him she was pregnant, he accused her of being a gold-digger and wanting to tie him down with ‘some bastard that wasn’t even his’. Five years later, he sued Jude for the custody of Joseph at the lack of an heir, thinking he’d win for being a nobleman and duke. However, he was no match for Jude and Caspar, and even a young Joseph expressed that he wished to remain with Jude and that his father was Caspar, not Nigel. 

Trivia

She’s one of the most brilliant women of her time 

She reads extensively and most of her readings are philosophy, but she also loves a good romance book and essays made by women. 

She met Simone de Beauvoir and Virginia Woolf and the two of them exchanged ideas and thoughts 

At forty she wrote her own philosophical law book that was mandatory in Hogwarts and those who wanted to work at the ministry. 

She was proposed to be Minister of Magic, but she said that while the offer was tempting, her husband Caspar was the one who she trusted to make a better job than her.

Caspar had noticed how the young shy girl has flourished to a strong, independent and self-sufficient woman, with a wit, eloquence, knowledge and intelligence that could easily match his own, though he thought that he'd never have a chance with her.

It all changed when, during a stroll, he saw the usual stoic and taciturn Jude with her baby boy: nurturing, kind, loving and incredibly sweet and soft. They saw each other more often, and before he could even say it out loud, he had fallen in love.

Though Jude was reluctant, for she had history with charming rich and influential men and feared to fall on the same trap again, but Mr. Brokenshire proved to be everything Lord Nigel was not, and soon she too was head over the heels. They dated for months until both of them knew and wasted no time in rules and etiquette in dating: soon, they were married on a small ceremony and a month after the wedding, Jude was awaiting her first child by Caspar.

Despite dealing with a battle custody, the two of them proved to be pure Megalodons at court, leaving no witnesses nor prisoners, and many more than both estimated was at Jude's side, and both won the battle a few weeks shy of their first daughter's birth, whom by Jude's request, Caspar attended.

They had one more daughter and the two of them lived a happy, busy life and when Jude was finally 65, she retired to dote on her grandchildren. It took Caspar a while, but he finally joined his wife too on retirement and lived their final years together, spoiling rotten their grandchildren and growing old together, happily ever after.

Evangeline Philippa Brokenshire, b. 1934

Firstborn daughter of Jude and Caspar Brokenshire (@cursebreakerfarrier ) she was a sweet, intelligent in many senses and extremly beautiful, who got sorted in Ravenclaw like her parents and was one of the brightest witches in her time. She got to know Tom Riddle, but couldn't bring herself to trust him, so she distanced herself from him and did not marry until she was thirty, wanting to be stable on her own right without the aid of both wealthy parents.

Annalisa Gaia Brokenshire, b. 1938

The baby of the family, she was born four years after her sister Evangeline and was thus over protected by everybody, especially her father and her oldest stepbrother, Joseph. She was bold, feisty and with a great courage, and it was no surprise to her parents when she was sorted into Ravenclaw. She was a great Quidditch Player and went on to be an Auror like her father had been in his youth, which caused him pride, especially seeing her thrive and become the youngest woman to be head of the department at only 34.

Bonus: Joseph Adrien Dubois, b. 1932

Son of Jude Dubois and Lord Nigel Ashbourne, Duke of Sandrigham, he was mainly raised by Jude, though Caspar was influential into shaping him into a man. He was very much his mother's son and was fearless and ambitious, extremely loyal and cunning, which sorted him into Slytherin, though he was a hatstall between Slytherin and Gryffindor. He never held any sympathy for his biological father, and though he tried to get closure with him, it didn't work out, and ended up loathing the man and being even more adamant that Caspar was his real father and not Lord Nigel. He thus wrote a letter to the Ashbourne's family lawyer, that should Lord Nigel not sire a legitimate son, he renounced his claim, alongside his future descendants, disowning further Nigel. He went on to travel the world and after fighting in the Second World War with the French, he decided to go back to England and finish Caspar's work. He ended up taking his name as second name, thus being called Joseph Dubois–Brokenshire.
