hi hailey!! i would love to see poly!cashton on the scenario of 24. New Years Countdown with these prompts:
9. “It’s snowing!”
18. “You have snow on your eyelashes, looks cute.”
35. “Will you be my new years kiss?”
maybe they're outside waiting for the new year and it starts to snow? 🥺 but feel free to change it up however you want! i'll be happy with anything poly!cashton 😂 hope you have fun with these blurbs!! ❤️
I had SO much fun with this one! I hope you like it!
Tumblr media
You’ve always wanted to see the ball drop in Times Square for New Year’s Eve, Ashton tried to deter you because you hate crowds (but you insisted) and he finally gave in. Calum was excited because he loves New York. sadly, you had to leave Daisy behind with Luke and Sierra.
“I don’t want her to be stressed on the plane,” Ashton had said while you coddled her on your bed. She licked your nose.
So, the day after Christmas you all boarded a flight to New York. Ash and Cal took you to all of the tourist destinations (spoiling you rotten with a new necklace and bracelet set from Tiffany’s). Later at dinner, Calum sprung a pair of matching earrings as the dessert came.
“From Daisy,” he grinned and you couldn’t believe how much they spent on you. Considering the luggage bundle from Coach they gave you for Christmas and some more books you’ve been wanting.
On New Year’s Eve you went to a fancy dinner before changing into warm clothes in the luxurious hotel suite before heading to the Square.
“Will you be my New Year’s kiss?” Calum asks you as he makes sure your hat is secure on your head.
“Duh,” you giggle. “We’ll have to take turns with Ash.”
“I think we could do a three-way kiss,” Cal winks glancing at Ashton behind you.
“I think not,” Ashton snorts. “We’ll take turns, don’t want to get all of Times Square hot and bothered.” He moves in front of you, hazel eyes checking that you’re warm and bundled up. “Are you sure you want to go in the crowd? It’s going to be packed.”
“Yes. I want to try,” you nod.
“Okay,” he sighs. “Let’s go.”
Times Square 10:30 p.m
“How’re you doing baby?” Ashton asks, his breath puffing in a cloud.
“F-fine,” you chatter then press into Calum’s chest as another partygoer elbows their way past you.
“We can go back to the hotel and watch the ball drop from the balcony,” Calum suggests, “or in the jacuzzi with the flat screen. We can have champagne. Bubbles. And chocolate covered strawberries sent up.”
He kisses your frozen cheek and you bite your lip at the temptation of hot water with a naked Calum and Ashton.
“But I want to see it drop in person,” you put.
Cal and Ash share a look.
“Okay, but you say the word and we’ll go back,” Ashton says.
10:45 p.m
“Is it almost midnight?” you ask crushed against Ashton’s chest now.
The crowd has turned into an irritating buzz with random shouts of drunken people. You’re hot from all the bodies surrounding you and the collar of your coat feels like it’s choking you.
“No, it’s only quarter to eleven,” Ashton smiles into your hat.
“We can go back to the hotel, baby. I hate seeing you tough this out,” Calum says.
“I can do it,” you mutter but burrow your face in Ashton’s chest.
10:53 p.m
There was a commotion in the crowd as a singer was about to perform onstage and you couldn’t take it anymore. The shivering, the loudness, the constant bumping and shoving. Your feet hurt and you were so thirsty. You yank at Ashton’s jacket so his head is bent down to yours.
“Can we go?” you ask quietly.
He nods then pinches Calum’s coat to get his attention. When Calum turns, Ashton jerks his head towards the back of the street indicating it’s time to go.
“Good, these people are fuckin’ crazy,” Calum says.
They keep you between them as you all maneuver through the crowd. Once you’re on a clear sidewalk you groan and take a deep breath.
“My feet hurt so bad.”
“I’ll rub them once we’re back in the room,” Ashton says. “We’ve only got a few more blocks.”
You mumble and grumble the whole time, Calum and Ashton hold in their giggles at your theatrics. When you’re back at the hotel and in the elevator, you yank off your hat, scarf, and gloves tossing them to the floor.
“It’s so dumb how you sweat when it’s cold,” you grunt.
“It’s your body keeping you warm,” Ashton picks up your discarded belongings. “Don’t make a mess baby.”
“Please, keep taking off your clothes.”
“Cal!”
“What?”
11:55 p.m
The jacuzzi is filling up and Calum just thanked the maid for the room service. You peer at the yummy foods when Ashton exclaims, “it’s snowing!”
As you and Calum meet him on the balcony, Cal makes sure to plop his beanie on top of your head so you don’t get sick. You can still hear the party in Times Square and you’re glad you aren’t down there anymore. The three of you bundle up under the blanket Ashton brought out as you wait for midnight and the new year to arrive.
“Will the bath overflow?” Ashton asks.
“Nah, we’re good,” Calum shakes his head. “Thirty more seconds.”
You rest your head against Ashton’s shoulder, Calum rests his chin on top of your head as you see the ball begin to lower. Through the snowflakes and the glimmering lights of the ball, it truly is a once in a lifetime sight.
“Eight!...Seven!...Six!...Five!..Four!...Three!...Two!...One! HAPPY NEW YEAR!”
Ashton tilts your head up so he can kiss you. The tip of his nose is cold but his lips are warm.
“Happy New Year, baby,” he murmurs.
“Happy New Year. You have snow on your eyelashes,” you smile, “it looks cute.”
“Yeah?”
“My turn,” Calum says tilting your face towards him. His kiss is slow and sure. “Happy New Year, love.”
“Happy New Year, honey.”
“My turn,” Ashton says.
Since they’re so tall, they can kiss right above your head. You can’t help but smile as you hear their words of love exchanged and the beginning of Auld Lang Syne echoes through the buildings.
You continued the New Year celebration in the jacuzzi, sipping on champagne, eating the chocolate covered strawberries and reminiscing the past year.
“My favorite part was getting Daisy,” Cal sighs massaging the back of your neck with his fingers.
“I loved when you visited us on tour,” Ash murmurs kissing your shoulders.
“I loved all of it, the good, the bad…because I have you two,” you say.
You finish watching Meet Me in St. Louis in the large bed with your two loves beside you, the perfect start of a new year.

I’d Do Anything B.C 10
Hi I’ve been working on this chapter since I adopted Hestia back in like August but work and life and shit has happened. I was going to work on one of my other WIPs but decided to actually finish this one. So...here it is.
Word Count: 1.9k
Warnings: None
Prev.
Calum was spending the afternoon with Michael, having finished up with his work early for once. Before leaving for his friend’s house he had made a good night call to Lily and Ashton, his two partners back in Australia working on a new deal. Calum was supposed to fly out and meet them in a few days-he had just had a few things he needed to wrap up at the office this week before he could join them. He was stressed and worn thin from his projects he’d been working on, as well as the interruptions from their employees-some with reasonable questions and requests-but others just adding to his to-do list. He did his best to push all of that down while he was on the call though, listening to and celebrating their little successes for the day and trying his best to pick out some sort of positive aspect to his day to share. He managed to pick something since they had last called, as well as expanded upon a few of their text conversations over the last couple days. He finally wrapped up their call, ushering his partners off to bed and telling them his plans to meet up with Michael and play a new game.
However, when he got to his friend’s house, it turned out his plan had done a complete 180, from sitting inside on the couch with controllers in hand to walking in the park and talking. Calum ended up doing most of the talking, everything spilling out the second Michael asked about his week. Michael listened intently, his gaze only straying from Calum to check his footing on the path.
Calum sighed, closing, “And I don’t want to burden Ash and Lil with this when they call. Like, it’s all part of running a company right? Like, especially since they’re having all these little wins and doing some fun stuff out there. Meanwhile I feel like I’m over here taking one step forward and three steps back with all these little side tasks. It’s just easier when they’re here because we can split them up-Lily’s especially good at figuring out where each of us is in our day and which of us, if any of us, is able to carry out that task. And it’s not like I don’t do that, like some of the things I’m like ‘maybe Ashley or Jaime are better people for this particular thing’ and either message them or send that person their way. But at the same time, I don’t want the people who have come to me to feel like I’m dismissing them or pawning the task off to someone else, but like…I’m just one person, y’know?”
Michael nodded, “You know, I’m always here to listen, but Lil and Ash worry about you when they’re away too and can tell when you’re holding stuff like this back.”
Calum hummed, “Yeah, but I don’t want them to feel bad about it or for me or whatever. Like, it’s not their fault that I got this idea for something that, as usual, ended up much larger than I expected and…wait, what made you say that last part?”
“Shit…I uh…fuck…”
“Mikey?”
Michael looked away, scuffing his shoe on the ground, “Lily may have texted me after you guys got off of the phone and mentioned that you seemed off and that she was worried, got the same text from Ashton like two seconds later.”
Michael jumped as Calum let out a laugh. “Can never hide anything from those two, even on the other side of the fucking ocean. To be fair I do feel a lot better now, maybe better than I would’ve just playing that game with you, even if I was really looking forward to it.”
“There’s still plenty of time in the day if we turn back now…” Michael said with a smirk.
Calum nodded, turning around on the path and beginning the trek back to Michael’s car.
As they were walking through the parking lot, a flash of movement between cars caught Calum’s attention. Then it came again, this time rushing across the section of the parking lot they were walking through, from one side to the other. “Kitten,” Calum gasped, just as the animal ran under a car that three people had just gotten into-its engine roaring to life.
Michael gasped too, both men rushing over to the car, trying to get the driver’s attention before they put the car in gear. They must’ve made quite the scene, the woman in the driver’s seat opening her window just a crack to see what the two large men wanted. “A kitten just ran under your car,” Michael explained, trying to catch his breath while Calum ducked under the car’s rear bumper to see where the kitten had gone. It froze and locked eyes with him, in the shadow of one of the front tires.
He started calling to the kitten, tapping at the gravel with his fingers to try and coax it over. Just as he began calling to the little cat, the car’s engine shut off and multiple feet hit the ground around the car. The kitten looked up at the car’s chassis, then around at all the legs surrounding the car before darting towards Calum. He took the kitten in his arms, capturing her and making sure he had a good grip before slowly beginning to wiggle back out from under the car. “Got it,” he grunted as he slowly began to sit up, handing the kitten to Michael so he could get to his feet. All three people from the car began to coo and cheer as they looked at the small animal in Michael’s arms while Calum dusted himself off.
“What now?” Michael questioned, looking at Calum.
“I…I don’t know,” Calum said, watching as the kitten squirmed in Michael’s hold. “I mean, I guess we go to the shelter, make sure she doesn’t belong to anyone?”
“We’re in the middle of a giant park, Cal…” Michael started.
“I know…but I mean, what else? Isn’t that what’s right?”
Michael hummed, conceding, and began to walk towards his car, “There’s one not far from here.”
Calum nodded, following after his friend.
~~~~
“Good afternoon, how can I help you two gentlemen?” Greeted the shelter’s receptionist.
“Yeah, uh, we were just at the park and caught this little kitten in the parking lot as she darted under the vehicle of another visitor who was preparing to leave,” Calum stated as Michael stepped forward, still holding the small cat.
“We just wanted to make sure that she was okay and that there isn’t anyone out there missing her.” Michael explained, holding the cat out for the receptionist to examine.
“Well, it is kitten season,” they replied, smiling as the cat pawed at the air between them, “and this little one looks just old enough to not need mom for food anymore, they probably wandered off on their own and got turned around. But we can definitely put them on stray hold, just in case. Let me just page our cattery attendant to get this little one checked in.”
They grabbed a walkie-talkie from their desk, calling to one of their coworkers elsewhere in the shelter to come up front. Michael and Calum took a seat against the window, Calum reaching over and gently rubbing between the kitten’s ears. The receptionist walked over and handed Calum a clipboard to fill out, a sticker with a series of numbers and letters in the top corner.
As he finished writing down his information and where they had been when they found the kitten, another person walked through the doorway from the back. She smiled, approaching the two men and greeted them, quietly reaching her hand out to take the kitten from Michael. Michael gave the kitten one last scratch before handing them over to the worker while Calum stood to hand the clipboard back.
When he turned back he caught sight of Michael staring wistfully through the doorway the kitten had been carried through. He wasn’t the only one to notice either, the receptionist saying, “We’ve had a lot of people bringing kittens in the last few days, you can foster that little one if you’d like.”
Michael immediately brightened, “Can I foster two? So it has a friend?”
Twenty minutes and more paperwork later, they were back in Michael’s car, trunk loaded with kitten food and cat litter, a carrier containing two kittens secure in the backseat. Calum was smiling, listening to the small animals mewling behind him. They were almost back to Michael’s house, when suddenly, next to a strip mall containing a petstore, Michael gasped, “They need toys!” He checked around him before pulling sharply to the right, entering the parking lot.
“I’ll stay in the car with the cats, no going crazy in there, just toys, no furniture unless you’re certain you’re going to keep them.” Calum teased.
Michael parked smiling, “No promises.”
Calum shook his head, watching as his friend hopped out of the car, jogging through the lot.
Not long after Michael had disappeared through the door, Calum felt his phone buzzing in his pocket. He pulled it out, half expecting a text from Michael asking for an opinion, surprised to instead see his girlfriend’s picture on his screen. “Aren’t you supposed to be asleep?” he asked as he answered, teasing lilt to his voice.
“I can’t,” Lily whispered, snuggled under a blanket on the couch, “Miss you.”
“Just a few more days and I’ll be there,” Calum tried to reassure, but he could feel his own heart aching.
“I hope I’m not interrupting your afternoon with Mikey…” She started, but was distracted by a loud meow behind Calum, “What’s that?”
“Oh, you’re not interrupting, our afternoon was already interrupted. We found one kitten, and now Michael is fostering two.”
Lily sat up, trying to contain a squeal to not wake their sleeping boyfriend in the other room. Calum grinned, launching into the tale as, as he anticipated, a picture text came from Michael in the background of the call.
~~~~~
As promised, a few days later, Calum strolled into the penthouse apartment in Australia. It had been a long day of travel, made even longer by a maintenance delay in Seoul, leaving Calum pacing the terminal as his gate changed four times before they finally were able to board. He had told Ashton and Lily not to wait up for him, his expected arrival time now closer to 3AM than 9PM and was glad to see that they had heeded him for once. He quietly set his backpack on the table, removed his shoes and quietly made his way to the bedroom. He brushed his teeth and washed his face before shedding the clothing he’d been wearing since the previous morning.
He smiled sleepily as he looked down at the bed, looking at his two partners. They had clearly been cuddling when they first went to bed, but had since separated, plenty of room between them for him to occupy. He carefully climbed over Ashton, who was facing the doorway, Lily facing the windows. He snuggled under the strewn blankets, pulling both of his partners to his chest. Neither woke, but they did both sigh, cuddling to him. Calum felt a smile on his face, kissing them each gently before closing his own eyes and finding sleep for himself, content to be surrounded by their warmth again.

Preview: I want to be loved first | James Potter
Tumblr media
Pairing: James Potter x Fem!Reader
Summary: Established relationship and angst to fluff: James still loves Lily, it's clear to you. You try to ignore the way your heart aches when you always seem to be second on his mind, knowing you will never compare to her and unsure how much more you can take.
Notes: Sorry, this is not a second part of the last fic. It's just a random one shot that popped up in my brain because I was inspired. I'm still writing it, but I wanted to let you guys know.

______________________
People have often told you that you needed to toughen up and grow a spine. That your lack of backbone had everyone trample on you like you were a crosswalk, and you could definitely say that they were right.
Perhaps that’s why you were crying in the middle of the night because of James Potter. He was laying behind you, pressed against your back with an arm draped over you. His face was hidden in the back of your neck, breathing steadily against it as he slept peacefully, unaware of the heartache he was causing you when he whispered Lily’s name. Again.
When he’d done it the first time, your blood had run cold, goosebumps showing up and littering your bare arms. Tears had prickled in your eyes at his barely audible, mumbled confession. “Love you so much, Lily.”
You had turned around to face him and your rustling had woken him up. Eyes still closed, he'd groggily shifted and pulled you against his chest. “Everything alright, love?”
“Yeah, just a nightmare,” you had responded in a small voice. Your answer had him finally open his eyes, somewhat concerned. He had lifted his arm to yawn against it and then settled it back on top of you in such a way that his hand had easy access to your nape, drawing circles in attempt to calm you.
“I’ve got you, love. Nothing can hurt you, as long as I’m here,” he had assured you. Ironic.

I’ll hold you until we are whole again. [a poly!Cashton comfort blurb]
warnings: poly!relationship. mentions of a small non-descriptive, unnamed accident. time spent apart. struggles in a relationship. lots of angst and tears. a small shiny ray of hope and love at the end. aka Ashton needs to travel back home, and Calum and Y/N have to manage their lives without their boyfriend.
word count: 2326
----------
“Hey, how was your flight? Did you arrive safely?”
“I need a shower, I smell like plane,” Ashton groaned on the other side of the line, probably rubbing his face tiredly. “Lauren is picking me up in ten then she’ll take me to Mom.”
“How are they doing?” Calum asked next to you, the phone strategically placed between the two of you on the table so both of you could speak to Ashton.
“They manage, but I think it will be better now that I’m here,” Ash continued, his voice sounding a bit strained and quiet. “I’ll take care of them until we figure everything out.”
You exchanged a look with Calum, both of you thinking of the same thing – how Ashton always took it upon himself to make sure everyone was okay, that they were fed and showered and slept at least 6 hours, taking medications and looking after their mental health. Not just the two of you, but Michael and Luke as well, their friends as well, and his whole family back in Australia.
That’s where he was currently, halfway across the world, waiting for his sister to pick him up so he could help Lauren and Harry take care of their Mom who had a small accident which left her bedridden. It only took him a day to arrange everything and before you knew it he was out of the door, already heading home to help where he could. Both of you wished that you could join him, but your workplace wouldn’t have let you go on such short notice for more than a few days, and Cal needed to overtake some of the band stuff Ashton left behind. You also had a feeling that they agreed to Calum staying so you wouldn’t be alone while Ash was helping his family.
“I already miss you, though,” Ashton confessed, murmuring his words into the speaker. “Do you think we could schedule a video call tomorrow? And maybe by then I’ll know more that I can share too…”
“Yeah, of course. I’ll see when we’re both available and let you know, okay?” Cal nodded like Ashton was able to see him, so used to having him by his side. “You just go and take care of Anne Marie. And get some sleep too, you sound tired.”
“I am,” he sighed, and you wanted more than anything to reach out and hug him, let him cuddle close to you and fall asleep. “I gotta go, Lauren is here.”
“Just… call us if you need anything, okay? Doesn’t matter what’s the time,” you added, hoping that Ash will remember it – he tended to forget about his own needs when he put others first.
“I love you, both of you,” Ashton finally said, and you could hear how much he meant it, how much he really appreciated you and Cal being so supportive and being there for him.
“We love you too, Ash,” Calum replied, and you hummed in agreement, whispering a quiet ‘love you’ as well.
“Alright, I’ll talk to you tomorrow. Now go to sleep, you stayed up way too late because of me,” a laugh slipped out of him, and you were sure his cheeks were tinted pink. “Sorry about that.”
“Wouldn’t be the first time…” your other boyfriend made another comment, and after catching another quick laugh from Ashton the call was disconnected.
Calum reached for you and grabbed your waist, pulling you from your chair and into his lap, wrapping his arms around you. Yours settled around his neck, fingers diving into his soft dark locks, eyes trained on each other.
“Let’s get you into bed, okay?,” he finally said, and pressed his lips against your cheek. “You look tired.”
“Is it okay if I say that I already miss Ashton from our bed?” the confession left you before you could stop yourself, burrowing closer to Calum.
“Of course. I miss him too,” he rubbed your back soothingly, whispering against your ear. “I also sleep best when both of you are next to me. But for now we have each other, so let’s take care of us until our grumpy boyfriend is back home, okay?”
“Okay,” you mumbled, a smile pulling at your lips at Calum’s not-so-secret nickname for Ashton.
Calum tilted your chin up towards him and kissed you, taking a little bit of extra time with it to make up for Ashton’s absence. You let him carry you upstairs and into the bedroom, Duke curled up against your stomach in bed as Calum held you from behind, whispering softly to help you fall asleep, and promising that your boyfriend will be back soon, you won’t even notice that he was gone.
You desperately wished that that was true.
.
You tried your best, you really did – but it was hard to stay positive when Ashton told you a few days later that he definitely needed to stay for two weeks, maybe even more, and with that Calum started to spend more and more time on his phone and laptop, discussing band things with their management, or arranging meetings with the others to talk over whatever idea or info Ashton has sent them. You also did your best to focus on your own job, hoping it will distract you enough that you don’t think about missing your boys, but most of the time it was futile.
Both of you were tired by the time you came back home, only having enough energy to send a message to Ashton and hope he was available for a quick chat, then after dinner you usually found yourselves in bed, Calum falling asleep before his head hit the pillow. But you found that your sleep was restless, even with your boyfriend holding you close, soft breaths tickling your ear as he slumbered. You knew you were overreacting it all: Ashton needed to take care of his Mom, and Calum had to take over his tasks to make the band run smoothly.
And you – well, you felt like you worried too much about Ashton and expected too much from Calum, and that was driving you crazy. You knew Ash was well capable of taking care of himself and his family at the same time, that he didn’t need you to worry about his well-being or mental health, that if he needed something from the two of you he would just tell you. And yet you felt like you were letting him down, that you should do more than this, make his life easier while he was back in Australia, not just feeling sorry for him and yourself from the distance.
And then there was Calum, who suddenly didn’t have that much time on his hands because he was working for the two of them so the band did not fall behind on their schedule, who was trying to keep everything running smoothly while still making sure you were okay too. He was doing his best and tried to give you as much attention as they usually would together with Ashton, but you felt like it was too much energy for one and that you might have been too needy. He deserved a break too, and you wanted to give it to him, to them, not wanting to burden any of your boys with your own made up problems.
.
“Hey, sweets? Are you okay?”
You didn’t realize Calum stopped speaking, or that there were tears streaming down your face. Frustratedly you wipe at your eyes, hoping he did not see them, quickly shaking your head.
“I’m fine…”
“You don’t seem fine,” he pursed his lips, crouching down next to you. “You wanna talk about it?”
The words in your throat desperately wanted to escape, and you gripped the hem of Ashton’s hoodie you stole from his closet to swallow them down. Because you were not okay, you were ready to fall apart. Ashton’s been away for almost three weeks, with no news about his arrival back home while Calum’s been trying to juggle two separate roles at the same time, and it made you feel selfish that he needed to focus on your bad mood now too. You curled up in a ball in front of the couch, knees pulled up to your chest as you hid your face, doing your best to hold yourself together.
“Y/N? Baby, what happened?”
“I’m fine, I’m just…” you hiccupped, voice muffled as you choked on your words. “I’m okay, don’t– don’t worry about me…”
“To hell with that!” Calum scoffed loudly, settling down next to you and pulling you into his arms, at which more sobs bubbled up from your chest. “Tell me love, please? Let me help you. I’m always here, you know that, right?”
It was like the floodgates opened at his words, because it was true, and you hated yourself for it – because of course he was always there, that was one of the problems. You cannot expect him to tire himself out looking after you. You hated yourself for being so needy with Calum, for worrying so much about Ash, for missing him this much even though this wasn’t the first time he was away for long weeks. You felt like you didn’t appreciate Calum enough, that you took his love for granted. You felt like your head’s going to explode, along with your heart.
“…and I miss Ashton too, I do,” Calum whispered against your ear as he cradled your head to his chest, his own voice teary, and you realized that you just said it all out loud, and that Calum was currently responding to all your feelings you’ve been bottling up since Ash left. “It’s really hard without him, I know. I’m so used to him being here with us, I don’t think I’ve spent more than a few days apart from him in the last 10 years. And I know you do this all the time while we are on tour, and I can imagine it does not get easier.”
“Cal, I–”
“And I promise you you’re not taking my love for you granted, and I’m sure Ashton would say the same. Because we both love you very much, and it’s not a burden, you’re not a burden. We take care of you because we love you, and we want you to tell us when you’re struggling and feeling low. Don’t bottle these feelings up, we want to know what is going on with you. You are our girlfriend and you always come first.”
“I really don’t deserve your love,” you gathered all your strength to move into his lap, arms hugging his neck and burrowing into him, crying against his shoulder.
“Don’t say that,” Cal mumbled against your ear, warm hand caressing your back up and down to sooth you while he also swallowed back tears. “I love you. You gotta accept that.”
“I love you too, Cal,” you snuggled close, trying to quieten the last of your sobs.
.
“I really wish Ashton was here…”
It’s been long minutes since you calmed down a little, a few quiet sobs still bubbling up every now and then, and Calum tried to help you talk through all your feelings you’ve been avoiding for weeks now.
“I know, baby, me too,” he kissed the top of your head, using the sleeve of his sweater to wipe away his own tears. “We gotta get our shit together before we speak to him, don’t you think?”
“I would rather you just tell me…” the voice came from the direction of the door, and both Calum and you looked that way, finding Ashton standing there with his luggage next to him.
He looked weary and like he needed a shower and a proper hug, curls hanging over his forehead and his glasses, dark circles under his eyes. Before you knew it he shrugged off his jacket, letting it fall to the floor while quickly kicking off his shoes, letting them land in a heap behind the couch before rounding it and dropping down next to you, his arms curling around the both of you.
“Hey honeys, I’m home,” Ash hooked his chin over your shoulder, a long sigh leaving his lips. “I fucking missed you too.”
“You didn’t tell us you were coming,” Cal murmured, no heat in his voice as his forehead knocked against Ashton’s. “Would have picked you up.”
“I wanted to surprise you,” Ash said, manoeuvring his body around yours until he was able to pull you to his chest while settling against Calum’s side, all three of you cuddled up in a pile. “Guess I was the one who got surprised… Hey, it’s okay, shhh baby! I’m here!”
You sobbed into his neck, suddenly feeling overwhelmed from your confession to Calum and the fact that Ashton came back home, holding both of you tightly against his body. You heard Cal sniffle above you, and Ash also took off his glasses to wipe at his eyes, his voice a little weak when he spoke again.
“I guess we all just need to hold each other a little tighter tonight.”
“It was a long three weeks without you,” Calum let his head rest on top of his, and Ash nodded, adjusting you in his lap as you started calming down again.
“I just wanna be with you two,” Ashton confessed, kissing your cheek and then Calum’s as well, his body slowly going lax. “Just want to be us again. Want to feel whole again.”
You quietly mumbled your love for them against his shirt as you found your words, voice still a little teary, but full of love, and they whispered their confessions right back to you, the three of you in a pile on the floor, trying to mend the pieces of your hearts which were not broken, but definitely needed some tender loving care from each other to properly heal – to be whole again.

Author’s note: I got @spicycal for this month’s fic event and I’ve had so much fun writing this piece! I hope you enjoy and it lives up to what you were expecting! 💖 And thanks to @h0tsos and @maluminspace for working with everyone and organizing the event!
It was a tradition the boys had that they had a small get together with their close friends a week or so after coming back from tour, and it was to no one’s surprise that Ashton invited you. You had met him and Calum at your favorite coffeeshop, and the three of you had hit it off since. You were close to Luke and Michael, but it was nothing compared to the connection you had with the other two.
When you arrived at Calum’s house, you left yourself in, greeting Duke as he trotted to you.
“Hey bud!” You grinned and bent down to scratch his head, “Where’s your pops?”
“Here,” Cal grinned as he slid the back door shut, “Everyone’s out by the pool, I came to grab drinks.”
You nodded, standing up again and following him to the kitchen, grabbing the beverages before following him, being mindful of the small dog near your feet.
“Hey, you’re here!” Ashton beamed from his spot on one of the lounge chairs as you passed him his drink.
“Yeah, you think I’d pass up a chance to swim in Cal’s pool?” You teased, smirking at the man in question.
“Ha ha,” Calum rolled his eyes sarcastically but returned your grin, taking a sip of his drink as he relaxed on the chair next to Ash, petting Duke as he laid by his side.
You laughed, waving hello to Luke, Michael, and their partners, before going to set at the edge of the water, dipping your feet in. Michael kissed Crystal on the cheek before jumping into the pool, moving his hair out of his face before swimming closer.
“Hey you,” He grinned, “Glad we could join us.”
“’Course! Had to catch up with my boys after their ventures!” You smiled as Crystal and Sierra got in too, “How was tour, by the way?”
“Incredible, there’s no manifesting the energy of a show anywhere else.” Luke grinned before pulling off his shirt and slid into the water.
Ash nodded, “But it’s nice to be home, in our own beds.” He smiled at you briefly, before sharing a look with Cal, who nodded.
“And with the people we love.” He looked at you before standing up, pulling his shirt off and joining the others in the water.
You looked, respectably of course, but you couldn’t help but admire the work he had been putting into his arms, or the way the water made his chest gleam. You hadn’t noticed you were staring until Michael looked at you with a raised eyebrow.
Ashton came to sit by you shortly after, kicking water in your direction, sparking a lighthearted between the two of you and you declared yourself the winner when reached too far into the pool to scoop water to splash you, falling in instead.
“Laugh now, but I declare a rematch later,” He grinned before swimming to the stairs, getting out to pull of his wet shirt. You bit your lip as you watched, taking in how golden he looked in the sunlight. He caught you staring and sent a winking before sliding back into the pool.
Standing up, you went to find your drink, taking quick gulps to empty the can. You announced you were going to get another one and Michael offered to follow you to get refill for himself and Crystal. You threw the used metal in the recycling bin before the two of you headed inside. You barely stepped foot in the kitchen when Michael asked,
“So when are you making your move?”
You froze and shook your head, “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
“Please,” He rolled his eyes, “I saw the way you watched Cal and Ash in the pool.”
You blushed and bit your lip, “We’re just friends.”
“Right, so you stare at me and Luke like that too? We’re flattered babe, but you’re taken,” He winked, teasing you.
You shook your head, laughing lightly, “No, I don’t..” You sighed and leaned back against the counter.
Michael watched you, both of you turning to the door as it slid open.
“Hey,” Luke walked in, “Is this the part where we tell you to talk to Ash and Cal?”
You blushed and whispered, “Is it really that obvious..?”
“To everyone but them, yeah.” Luke chuckled, “But to fair, their affections are obvious to everyone but you too.”
“What are you talking about? They just see me as a friend.” You looked up at him.
“And you just proved his point,” Michael grinned.
Luke nodded, “And let’s not forget the way the guys look at each other,” He turned his gaze to you, “You three clearly have shown there’s sexual attraction to each other, but there’s also a different way you all interact with each other. The three of you could be happy together, you just gotta have that conversation.”
You sighed and nodded, “You’re right..” You bit your lip before asking, “Have you had this kind of conversation with the guys?”
“At least three times a week during tour,” Michael rolled his eyes, annoyed, “And they kept saying ‘maybe when we get back’ and ‘mind your own business’. Luke and I knew we had to talk to you too about it, hoping you’d listen and to let you know that they had a crush on you too.”
“Ok..” You softly smiled, “I’ll talk to them before I leave.”
Luke and Michael, patted you on the back, then headed back out after grabbing their desired drinks and snacks.
The rest of the afternoon slipped by, and you and Ash were helping Calum clean up, Duke watching and yawning from his spot under the lounge chair.
“Thanks for the help,” Calum grinned as he stuffed opened wrappers into a trash bag, “I love having everyone over but the cleanup is always a hassle.”
“’Course mate, you know we love you..” Ash widened his eyes before correcting himself, “Love to help you, I mean, he chuckled nervously.
Calum blushed and smiled sheepishly as he tied up the bag, but you saw this as an opportunity to start the conversation.
“What if the three of us got together?”
Both boys dropped their garbage bags and stared at you.
“Wow, no beating around the bush huh?” Calum chuckled but nodded, “That’s something I thought about to.”
Ashton nodded, “I’ve had feelings for the both of you for the longest time, but was worried about screwing up our friendship, or having to choose between the two of you.”
You smiled and shook your head, “I want you both, always have, and not in just a sexual way.” You blushed, “Although there’s been some thoughts there too.”
Both boys chuckled and smirked at each other, then back at you.
“Before we do anything, romantically or sexually, we need to get all clarification out of the way.” Ashton looked at the both of you, watching as you nodded in agreement.
You three finished cleaning up before heading inside and heading to the living room, Duke following behind before finding one of his toys. You three discussed the relationship and its possibilities, agreeing that it would a poly relationship, with all the benefits, and you would keep it private until you fell into the flow of the relationship.
You bit your lip, nervous, before standing and kissing Ashton gently, grinning as he reciprocated before pulling away to include Calum.
When both boys pulled away, they had a gleam in their eye, and you admired the moment between the three of you before you were scooped up by the younger man. He carried you to his bedroom while Ashton followed.
You smirked and teased, “No beating around the bush huh?”
He chuckled and laid you on his bed, kissing you passionately, “We spent months ignoring our feelings, why hide them any longer?” He gently kissed your neck, rubbing your sides and smirking at the moans escaping from your lips.
Ashton watched, leaning against the doorframe, trying to find the best spot to come in before kneeling beside the both of you on the bed, giving Calum’s curls a light tug.
You both grinned at the groan he emitted, and the older man bit his lip before whispering, “Wanna feel those moans on my cock as you suck me. That ok with you?”
“Oh fuck yeah..” Calum grinned as you watched Ashton stand and slowly, teasingly, pull his trunks down.
The curly haired man let out a groan as Ashton’s cock came into view, getting on his knees and licking his tip.
“Fuck!” The older man locked eyes with Calum, biting his lip as he took more of him in his mouth.
You bit your lip and pulled your bikini bottoms down, getting turned on between watching the two men.
Ashton smirked as he watched you, moaning as his cock hit the back of Calum’s throat, “You wet pretty girl? Give us a show, rub your clit.”
You nodded, quickly following his request and letting out whimpers of pleasure.
“Good girl,” He smirked before gripping Calum’s curls, “And you, pretty boy,” he stopped to let out a moan as the younger man squeezed his balls, “Have me so damn close. Get me to cum and I’m sure pretty girl will return the favor,” He winked at you before throwing his head back in pleasure as Calum bobbed his head faster.
You groaned at sight and began to finger yourself, starting out slow but quickly building up speed as Calum dug his nails into Ashton’s thighs, preparing to swallow his load.
Almost on cue, Ash let out little gasps as he let go, watching as the other man swallowed everything before pulling off.
“Fuck, that was incredible,” Ashton panted, helping Calum to his feet before giving him a passionate kiss. Calum grinned against his lips, before pulling him closer and tilting his head back as the dark haired man nipped and sucked on his neck before pulling away and turning to you, who was on the edge of giving yourself an orgasm.
“Aw, poor pretty girl,” Ashton pouted teasingly, “Having to pleasure yourself.”
You whined, “Please Ash, need you both so bad..”
He chuckled and watched as Cal grab condoms from the bedside drawer, passing one over before ripping the package open carefully and sliding it on.
The blonde man moved closer to you, gently pulling your fingers out of your heat then slipping them into his mouth, letting out a small groan.
“Damn, the two of you together is amazing,” He smirked and licked his lips, “Gonna need to get more than a sample later,” He winked before kissing you and lining himself up at your entrance.
“Are you ready for my length lovely? I’ll go nice and slow,” He whispered, stroking your cheeks.
You nodded, wrapping your arms around his neck and kissing him sweetly, pulling away to moan as he slipped into you.
“Fuck lovely,” He praised, “You feel amazing..” He groaned as he waited for you to get comfortable. You squeezed his biceps to indicate you were ready for him to move, and he started his slow thrusts, holding you close as he made love to you.
Your other lover sat the end of the bed, watching with adoration at the scene in front of him. You looked at him pleadingly, hoping he would join beside you, and as if he could read your mind, he laid beside you, kissing you and rubbing your clit as Calum made his claim on your neck while you two made love. You whimpered in pure bliss, turning your head to watch both men show their adoration and it wasn’t long before you reached your high.
“Calum, Im- I’m gonna..” You groaned, clenching around him and slowly dragging your nails down his back.
“I know baby,” He smiled, listening to how your body moved for him, “Let go whenever you need, I got you.”
You clenched the sheets as your high approached, mumbling Calum’s name like a prayer. He groaned and Ashton kissed you both as he pulled out.
The three of you lay together in a sweaty, close cuddle, before you whispered, “Don’t think I didn’t notice you didn’t cum, Cal.”
He blushed, “Well, I was close, but was worried about going to far, and-“
“Make love to me then,” Ashton smiled, looking at him, “Your pretty mouth made me cum, let my ass do the same.”
Calum bit his lip and nodded as he pulled the old condom off carefully, throwing it away before taking the one he offered Ashton earlier back. Opening the package, he slipped the one on and kissed the older man.
“I’ll be gentle, of course,” He smiled, before standing up, letting the other man get into position.
You pulled your bikini top off, smiling as Ashton kissed both nipples before kissing you, “Hey pretty girl,” He whispered, watching as you made your lips down his neck and chest.
Calum watched as he applied lube to his cock, “Help him get relaxed lovely..” He gently rubbed some on Ashton’s hole, watching as he shivered.
After a few minutes of receiving gentle kisses and touches on various parts of his body, Ash nodded, “OK, I’m ready,” He gripped the sheets in preparation, smiling in appreciation as you kissed him.
You felt a gasp between your lips as Calum eased into the older man, biting his lip as he gauged his reaction.
“Holy fuck,” Ashton’s voice was caught in his throat, but he grinned in ecstasy. When he was adjusted to the younger man’s size, he instructed him to move.
Nodding, Calum began to thrust, groaning at how amazing the feeling was and realizing how lucky he was to have known both of you so intimately. Not to feel left out, you left kisses over Ashton’s body, making sure to leave a mark or two to find later. You only pulled away when you heard panting, watching as Calum approached his high.
“Fuck babe,” He groaned and clenched his eyes shut, “I’m so close!”
Ashton gripped the sheets, grinning, “Go ahead and let go pretty boy, make sure you make those noises we love so much.”
Calum’s pants continued before he let out a whine, his thrusts slowing down as he released into his condom. His legs buckled and he slowly sank to the floor, watching Ashton slowly move closer to you, the both of you making out before you went to get wet rags for everybody. Ashton helped his other lover to the bed, letting him discard the condom before pulling him in for cuddles. You came back, passing out the damp cloths and helped your two men get clean before joining in on the cuddles. You closed your eyes, feeling sleep take over but opened them when you heard Calum speak up.
“That was incredible, both of you. I’m glad we did this and had that conversation,” He smiled tiredly, snuggling more into Ashton’s chest.
You nodded, smiling softly and whispered, “I just hope this doesn’t end soon,” you bit your lip, laying your head on the older man’s stomach.
Ashton wrapped his arms around the both of you, “You’re all I see, when I think of the future, both of you are. I see us holding each other close, coming home from tour and being in the same house so we can cook together, shit, maybe even getting another dog,” He chuckled as his lovers looked up excitedly, kissing their foreheads, “But for now, let’s rest. Luke wants to go for a run in the morning and I gotta make sure I’m up in time to cover these marks.”
“Let him see them,” You mumbled, “It could be proof that his and Micahel’s words finally got through.”
Ashton and Calum chuckled, snuggling closer as you all drifted off into a peaceful sleep.

“Ashton, why does your fridge say ‘stop being an idiot’?” Ashton glanced over to where Luke was staring at the fridge door in mild amusement.
“Oh, that’s just Calum - ignore him. I usually do” Ashton rolled his eyes as a picture fell off the wall as he finished speaking, the thud causing Luke to spin around, eyes wide.
“What was that?”
“I just brushed past the picture and knocked it off, that’s all.”
Luke narrowed his eyes at Ashton, the older man chuckling as he hung the picture back up.
“Come on, let’s watch this damn movie you don’t shut up about.”
Why did you tell Luke to ignore me
The question was on Ashton’s fridge the next morning, the letters a mishmash of colours and cases. Ashton pinched the bridge of his nose as he read it - only he would get a self conscious ghost living in his house.
“Calum, are you here?”
A cupboard door opened and a mug floated down onto the counter a few feet away from him - Ashton took that as a yes and shoved a pod into his coffee machine before grabbing the mug and pushing the button.
“I was only messing with you, Cal. Besides, you’re my ghost, it has nothing to do with Luke.”
Ashton watched as the letters on the fridge rearranged themselves, sipping on his coffee and humming at the bitterness dancing on his tongue.
Do you not want your friends to know about me
Ashton groaned internally, how could he explain this to his house ghost without offending him?
“I think they’d be pretty freaked out if they knew I lived with a ghost. You saw Luke’s reaction to you knocking that picture off the wall. Besides, I like keeping you a secret, you’re mine.”
It’s pretty hard for me to be yours when you’ve never even seen me
Ashton had in fact seen Calum. Or at least a photo of Calum.
–
He hadn’t been in the house more than a month when he started to realise that things kept happening. A photo moved slightly, the couch not being quite as tidy as he’d left it. The day Ashton had realised he actually had a ghost, he’d come home to find a new photo of him and Luke floating in midair.
“Um, hello?”
The photograph was dropped hastily, as though Ashton had scared the ghost he evidently had living in his house. After that, Ashton started talking to the ghost, even though he never got a reply aside from the odd knock on a table or a wall. It was while he was at a store grabbing something for dinner that he saw the fridge magnets. He grabbed all of the packets they had and drove home with a grin on his face.
“So, I bought you these today,” Ashton held out the magnets towards where he hoped his ghost was, “I thought maybe you could try talking back to me?”
Ashton felt a small whoosh of air as the ghost moved around the kitchen and he tore open the first packet, dumping the contents into a drawer he never used. Almost immediately the letters started floating from the drawer towards his fridge and Ashton watched as the ghost arranged the letters into a sentence.
Hello Ashton
“Hello, ghost. Oh - what’s your name? It feels weird calling you ‘ghost’.”
The letters arranged themselves once again.
My name is Calum
“Nice to finally know your name, Calum. How was your day?”
I’m a ghost Ashton
The brunette snorted as he watched the letters form another sentence.
Boring thank u for asking
Ashton laughed before spending the next few hours conversing with his ghost - with Calum - via fridge magnets. Calum had told him his full name after Ashton insisted upon knowing it.
“If you ever piss me off, I need to know what to call you.”
Calum Hood
It lingered there for a few seconds before ‘Hood’ was moved over.
Calum Thomas Hood
Ashton turned it over in his mind. Why did that name sound so familiar to him? He thought nothing more of it until he was at work a few days later.
STILL NO SIGN OF MISSING MAN
Police are still searching for Calum Thomas Hood, 24, who disappeared from his home 6 months ago. They’re urging anyone who may know anything about his disappearance to come forward.
Attached to the article had been a photo of the missing man, and Ashton knew it was his Calum. (He’d later cut the photograph out of the newspaper and taped it to the bottom of his desk drawer where no one would find it.) When he’d got home from work that day, Ashton had asked Calum how he’d died.
Not sure don’t remember
Ashton had debated telling the police that he knew exactly where Calum Thomas Hood - or at least his soul - was. He’d told Calum this one evening and a single word had appeared on his fridge.
Crazy
–
Calum was bored.
Sure, being a ghost meant that he could walk through walls and move things with his mind, but being bound to one place had its drawbacks. There were only so many times you could move things around waiting to see how long it took Ashton to find them before you’d moved everything.
(He’d even tried to swap all the furniture in Ashton’s bedroom with all the furniture in his living room, but Ashton had come home earlier than Calum had anticipated and made him put it all back to normal without any help. Moving things with your mind was tiring.
“You’re a ghost, Cal, how can you get tired?”
Calum had used all of the ‘i’s and the ‘l’s to make a middle finger on Ashton’s fridge door.)
Calum thought that Ashton could sense how restless he was. Ashton seemed to find new reasons to work from home during the day so Calum wasn’t by himself. Not that they could really interact unless Ashton was in the kitchen. They’d tried using a pen and some paper once, but Calum’s ghostly abilities didn’t seem to extend to pens. He couldn’t seem to get the pressure right to actually leave ink on the paper. Ashton had laughed at him before being met with a cushion to the face.
Calum missed being alive. He missed being able to go outside. He missed coffee. He missed being able to pet dogs.
Most of all, he was frustrated that he couldn’t remember how he’d even become a ghost. At night while Ashton was asleep, Calum tried to remember what had happened. (There wasn’t much else to do while your best friend was sleeping.) He’d get so far into the memory and then something would tug him back into the present moment. It was disconcerting. Calum could sense that he was close to finding out the truth, but something was stopping him. He’d tried to explain it to Ashton but ran out of letters and gave up. He’d debated asking the other man to buy more, but had resigned himself to the fact that it just wasn’t worth it. Ashton wasn’t going to be able to help him figure out what had happened - it was something he needed to figure out for himself.
–
“Hey Cal, how do you feel about me throwing a Halloween party this year?”
Although Ashton couldn’t see him, he knew that Calum had raised an eyebrow at his question.
It’s your house Ashton
“Well excuse me for wanting to make sure my resident ghost wasn’t inconvenienced.” Ashton smirked at his fridge as Calum spelt out a new message.
Appreciate it
Sure, have a party
Ashton cheered aloud and began reeling off his ideas to Calum, barely giving the ghost time to form a sentence. Calum shook his head fondly at the man standing opposite him - if Calum had been alive and met Ashton, he was sure that they’d have been best friends. When Ashton had finished speaking, Calum had one thing to say.
You already have a haunted house Ash
–
The party had taken Ashton weeks of planning and he’d dragged Luke into the prep early on in the process.
Calum liked having Luke around - he was fun to mess with. He’d taken to moving Luke’s glass from wherever he’d put it down and putting it on the other side of the room. Watching Luke’s bewilderment was a new favourite activity of Calum’s - Ashton had to keep taking the fall for his antics.
As Halloween rolled around, Ashton’s house really did look haunted. Every room was shrouded in black and there were cobwebs all over the place. (Calum’s favourite thing was the skeleton hiding behind the downstairs closet door that jumped out whenever you walked past it.) According to Ashton, the outside looked just as scary as the inside, but Calum had to take his word for it.
As people started arriving, Calum retreated into Ashton’s room. He didn’t usually go anywhere near the other man’s room, but Ashton had told him that it was okay if he needed to get away from all the people. Calum was worried about being walked through. Ashton had done it a few times by accident, and Calum had felt sick every time it had happened. That was something they were both eager to avoid, especially once Calum had explained to Ashton how it felt.
A knock on Ashton’s bedroom door piqued Calum’s interest and Luke’s head appeared around the door frame.
“Ash, are you - oh. You’re not here.” Luke started to close the door but stopped suddenly, pushing it back open and slipping inside before closing it behind him. He glanced around a few times, gaze running over where Calum was sitting on the end of the bed.
“This is going to sound crazy, but is there someone else in here?”
Calum cocked his head at Luke’s words; he knew that Ashton wasn’t particularly forthcoming with Luke about his existence. He shifted off the end of the bed, moving across the room to stand about a foot away from Luke. The blonde let out a breath as he felt the temperature in the room drop slightly.
“Calum, right?” Luke’s voice was quiet as he spoke, Calum smiling at the fact that Luke remembered his name. He picked up a pillow from Ashton’s bed in response, tossing it gently towards Luke. The other man caught it easily, eyes growing wide at the pillow that was suddenly in his arms.
“Holy shit, you are actually real.”
Calum let out a laugh at Luke’s words, amazement etched into the blonde’s face.
“I’ll be right back, don’t go anywhere.”
The blonde left the room, returning a few minutes later with an armful of stuff. He dropped it all on Ashton’s bed before turning around and facing the room.
“So, um, I bought a small magnetic whiteboard and some of the letters from Ashton’s kitchen drawer and I was wondering if we could talk about something?”
Luke watched in shock as the letters began arranging themselves on the whiteboard.
Hi Luke
What’s up
Luke sucked in a breath before he started talking.
–
Calum knew this was crazy.
Luke was crazy.
Just because it was Halloween, it didn’t mean that Ashton would suddenly be able to see him. Calum had always thought the whole ‘veil being thinner on Halloween’ thing was bullshit. Luke was insistent that it wasn’t, telling him that if anyone would be able to see him it would be Ashton.
“He’s in love with you, I think.”
The way Luke had said it had been so casual, but it sent Calum’s mind reeling. Ashton couldn’t possibly love him. He barely even knew him. Luke had dismissed Calum’s concerns before he’d even completed a sentence on the board. The more Calum thought about it, the more he was sure that he was the one in love with Ashton. He paused rearranging the letters for a moment as he stared at Luke.
Think I love him too
Luke had lit up with a smile at Calum’s words before slipping out of the room to find Ashton.
Calum was sure if he had any contents in his stomach, that they would be on their way out by now. He was so nervous. Luke was so sure that this would work, that Calum found himself believing the blonde man wholeheartedly. It felt like an eternity before Luke finally returned dragging Ashton behind him, along with another man that Calum had never seen before.
“Calum, this is Michael. He’s my boyfriend and he’s also slightly psychic.”
Michael blushed a deep red at Luke’s words, scanning the room before he locked eyes with Calum.
“Hello, Calum.”
Calum waved gingerly at the green eyed man staring at him, Michael breaking out into a smile. He glanced at Luke and nodded slightly, the blonde smirking at Ashton. Ashton was standing behind Luke looking bewildered as he watched the exchange between his friends.
“Can someone please explain to me what’s going on? Luke, how did you find out about Calum?”
Luke glanced over his shoulder at the brunette man and rolled his eyes.
“Please, I don’t know why you thought no one would find the picture you’d taped to your desk drawer. Coupled with the fact that you kept blaming ‘Calum’ for things. You weren’t exactly subtle, Ash. I put two and two together and did a google search.”
Ashton’s jaw dropped open as Luke spoke, Calum snickering at his reaction. Michael smiled widely at Calum and turned to face Ashton.
“You already know what Calum looks like, right?”
Ashton nodded slowly, fearful of where this was going.
“As we all know, the veil is thinner on Halloween, therefore allowing spirits to pass between the realms. I’ve never tried to bring an actual ghost through the veil, but there’s a first time for everything, right?” Michael rolled his shoulders as he spoke, turning back to face Calum. “Provided this goes right, we should all be able to see you. I mean, I already can. But Luke and Ashton too. Worst case scenario is that only I can see you, and this doesn’t work. You only live once though, right?”
Calum rolled his eyes at Michael’s words, bracing himself for whatever the man was about to do.
“Oh, wait.” Michael glanced at Ashton before looking back towards Calum, “Say something to me, Calum. I need to know if I can hear you already or not.”
Calum raised an eyebrow at Michael.
“You’re such a know-it-all, Michael.”
Michael broke out into laughter, Luke and Ashton looking at him in confusion.
“This is gonna be fun, nice to meet you Calum.” Michael smirked at him before cracking his knuckles, “You’re gonna fit right in with us all, I’m sure of that.”
“Michael, what exactly are you going to do?” Ashton’s voice was nervous, he didn’t like the fact that Michael could see Calum when he couldn’t.
“We, my dear friends, are going to summon Calum firmly into the realm of the living.”
–
Calum felt the air around him grow fuzzy as he watched the three figures sat on the floor in front of him.
“Now Ashton, I need you to imagine Calum standing right in front of you. Really imagine it. See him in your mind’s eye. You got it? Good.” Michael looked away from Ashton and back towards Calum. “Cal, whenever you’re ready, I need you to come and stand in front of Ashton. I’m 80% sure that this is going to work. It depends how well Ashton is visualising.”
The brunette huffed in Michael’s direction and Calum smirked.
“Is he always like this when I’m not around?”
Michael grinned at Calum before nodding and gesturing to the spot on the floor in front of Ashton.
“Whenever you’re ready, Calum.”
–
Holy shit
“Cal?” Ashton’s voice was barely a whisper as he stared at the man suddenly standing before him.
“Hi, Ash.” Calum blushed under the other man’s gaze, casting a look towards Luke and Michael who were both sat on the floor smirking.
Ashton blinked a few times before slowly standing up and reaching towards Calum. The other man grabbed his arm as he stood, helping to pull him off the floor.
“How - how are you corporeal right now?” Ashton looked over at Michael who simply shrugged in return.
“You must be really good at visualising. It was only supposed to make Calum visible and hearable. Whether or not he was corporeal was out of my control.” Michael pulled Luke to his feet as he stood up, taking the blonde’s hand, “Now, if you don’t mind, I need to go and make out with my boyfriend in Ashton’s spare room. Nice to meet you, Cal. I daresay we’ll be seeing a lot more of each other in the near future.”
Michael dragged Luke from the room, the blonde waving absentmindedly at Ashton and Calum as they retreated, closing the door behind them.
“It’s really you.” Ashton ran his hand up Calum’s arm. The other man was wearing the same clothes as in the photo Ashton had seen, Calum’s leather jacket feeling smooth against his fingers.
“It’s really me, Ash.” Calum brought a hand up rest against the back of Ashton’ neck. “It’s so weird to be able to talk to you and for you to actually be able to hear me.”
Ashton laughed quietly at Calum’s words, leaning forwards to rest their foreheads together.
“I can’t believe you’re really standing here and I can see you. Remind me to get Michael a case of beer or something.”
“Noted.” Calum grabbed both of Ashton’s hands, lacing their fingers together. “I’ve thought about being able to touch you for so long.”
Ashton hummed quietly at the other man’s words, the realisation finally setting in.
Calum was here. He could see Calum. He could hear him. He could feel him.
“Ash, I need to tell you something.” Calum nudged Ashton’s head up so they were eye to eye. “I’m pretty sure I’m in love with you.”
Ashton smiled softly at the admission.
“Pretty sure I’m in love with you too, Cal. I mean, it’s kinda complicated because you’re a ghost and all, but I really do love you.”
Calum searched Ashton’s face for any sign of hesitancy before closing the distance between them.

***
As the last of Ashton’s students disappeared from the main balcony of the astronomy tower, the professor contemplated going back to his sleeping quarters to rest. It seemed like a shame to waste such a beautiful night, though. The sky was clearer than it had been in weeks and the balmy summer breeze made him so reluctant to go back indoors.
Deciding to make the most of the beautiful evening, Ashton stepped over to his telescope that he’d yet to pack away and aimed it at a random point in the sky, smiling as he spotted some notable stars and important constellations. He’d been teaching Astrology at Hogwarts for over five years now and studying it over all for three times that, yet he still seemed to learn something new or find a new appreciation for something every time he looked through his telescope.
Ashton was just in the middle of following a shooting star when an animalistic shriek broke the peaceful silence. He automatically aimed his telescope towards the sound, gasping when he noticed movement near the edge of the Forbidden Forest.
He focused the lense to get a clearer of view of who or what was lurking there. His chest tightened as he found himself watching his fellow teacher, Professor Calum Hood, struggle with some dark creature he couldn’t quite make out from that distance. The animal looked to be in distress, though and Calum was having a hard time holding it and reaching for his wand.
Not for the first time, Ashton cursed the fact that disapparating wasn’t possible within Hogwarts castle and its grounds as he quickly darted for the stairs. The Care of Magical Creatures teacher needed assistance and Ashton was determined to be the one to give it to him. He took the steps two at a time in his haste to help his colleague.
Once he reached the bottom of the stairs, Ashton flung open the heavy door of the Astronomy tower and set off at a run across one of the castle’s many lawns. Another shriek rang out from the edge of the Forbidden forest and the Astronomy teacher quickened his pace, intent upon reaching Calum before the animal he was treating attracted the attention of anything worse.
By the time Ashton reached his colleague, the creature in his arms was almost hysterical, it’s screeches reaching an almost deafening volume.
“What can I do to help?” The Astronomy professor asked as he skidded to halt in front of his colleague.
Calum looked up at him, undeniable panic burning in his chocolate brown eyes. “Can you grab the bottle of calming draught from my pocket for me? I can’t reach it and hold him still at the same time.”
Nodding determinedly, Ashton dropped to his knees beside his fellow professor and tentatively reached towards the nearest pocket of Calum’s robes. The Care of Magical Creatures professor held the flailing animal to one side, away from Ashton so that he could retrieve the bottle unhindered.
“Just gently place the bottle between his lips and pour it in, we need to get him to be quiet before I take him to my hut.” Calum explained, the concern in his voice all too obvious as he struggled with the animal in his arms.
It was only in that moment, that Ashton realised what the creature actually was - a baby thestral. His insides squirmed a little. The winged, skeletal horse-like animals had always given him such a melancholy feeling. Perhaps it was because only people that had seen death could see them. That fact  alone alone was enough to make someone dislike them. For a moment, Ashton had to fight with his loathing of thestrals in order to carry out the simple action his fellow professor had asked him to carry out.
“Please Ashton…” Calum begged, his dark eyes so wide and tearful that all of Ashton’s fear and hatred for thestrals dulled to an almost insignificant level.
The Astronomy teacher reached out, gently holding the baby thestral’s bottom jaw steady with one of his large hands, before tipping the contents of the tiny bottle into its mouth.
It took only a few seconds for the calming potion to start working. The Thestral stopped thrashing it’s skeletal legs and curled up quietly in Calum’s arms, nestling its tiny snout against one of his muscular biceps.
In the sudden silence, all that Ashton could hear was Calum’s panting breaths and the pounding of blood in his own ears.
“Thank you.” The slightly younger teacher whispered as he carefully hugged the creature in his arms closer to his chest. “I need to get this little guy bandaged up before his parents find him and tear me apart.”
“I thought that Thestrals were peaceful creatures?” Ashton queried, struggling to his feet so that he could help Calum stand up with the baby Thestral.
The Care of Magical Creatures professor nodded thoughtfully, rising to his feet. “They are but they’re incredibly protective of their young. Even though they’re very intelligent creatures, I’m not sure they’d understand that I’m trying to help this little one, they'll think I’m hurting him because he’s scared.”
The passion in Calum’s eyes and voice stirred something inside of Ashton, like the faint attraction he’d always had for his colleague was slowly growing into an undeniable force. “Is there anything I can do to help?” He asked, fighting to keep his voice even and professional.
Calum nodded, the warm evening breeze jostling his bleached blonde curls. “I could use your help bandaging up his leg, if you’re not busy.”
Maybe it was Ashton’s imagination, but he could have sworn that Calum's cheeks heated up in a blush, turning slightly pink as though he was melting a bit. There was no time to focus on that, though, as a high pitched shriek rang out from the depths of the forest. “I’m guessing that’s mama or papa thestral trying to find their baby, huh?”
Calum groaned in response before gesturing towards the hut that served as his living quarters. It was still widely referred to as ‘Hagrid’s Hut’, even though the half giant hadn’t inhabited it for many years now. In fact, it’d been Calum’s home for over three years and had belonged to at least two other teachers prior to his appointment as the Care of Magical Creatures professor. It had been repaired and rebuilt after the battle of Hogwarts, restored to all of its rustic glory by devoted witches and wizards who had devoted years of their lives to repairing and improving the Castle and her grounds after she was left so devastated by Voldemort and his death eaters.
Despite the threat of possibly been torn apart by angry flying skeleton horses, Ashton couldn’t help but watch Calum. The determination in the Care of Magical Creatures’ expression was almost enough to make Ashton fall fully in love. He’d always found Calum attractive, often stealing lingering glances at him across the school grounds and offering tentative smiles whilst sitting at the teachers’ table in The Great Hall most evenings. Seeing him like this, though…in his element doing something that he’s so passionate about added a whole new level to the feelings that had been bubbling inside the older man for quite some time.
Fortunately, it only took a few minutes to reach Calum’s hut. As much as Ashton liked that the tradition of it being called ‘Hagrid’s Hut’ kept the names of one of the most loved teachers in Hogwarts’ History in people’s minds, it did belong to Calum now.
Once they were safely inside, Calum laid the baby thestral on the circular dining table in the little kitchen area. “There’s a box of muggle first aid equipment in that corner next to the armchair, will you bring it to me, please?” He asked, not sparing Ashton a glance as he focused on the injured animal.
“Can’t you fix it with magic?” Ashton asked curiously, still loitering uselessly near the front door.
Calum gently lifted one of the creature’s wings, revealing a nasty gash on one of the thestral’s tiny  front legs. “Yes, but the spell to heal him completely would take far too long, I’m just going to have to patch him up the best I can and then bandage the leg up. At least then he can go back to his family and I can check on him again in a few days.”
Without asking any more questions, Ashton headed over to the corner of the sitting room that Calum had indicated. The box of bandages was sitting between the large armchair and the wall. He quickly grabbed it and headed back to the table where Calum was uttering a healing spell, pointing his wand directly at the gash on the thetral’s leg.
Ashton had never really gotten the hang of healing spells. He could fix very minor cuts and bruises but that’s as far as his skills in that area stretched. It only made him more in awe of Calum as the younger man easily closed up the inner tissue of the thestral’s leg.
Another, more panicked sounding screech rang out from the Forbidden Forest. It sounded closer this time and Ashton wondered just how quickly the dark creatures could move through the dense woodland.
“Shit…” Calum sighed as he grabbed one of the bandages and a little bottle of ointment from the first aid box Ashton had retrieved for him. “They’re gonna find him in a matter of minutes and I still need to apply this antiseptic ointment and bandage the leg up. I don’t have time to close the skin fully and if it gets infected, this lil’ guy could get seriously ill!”
The worry in Calum's voice spurred Ashton into action. Even though he knew very little about healing wounds magically or using muggle equipment, he could at the very least, be a helpful assistant. “What do you need me to do?” He asked, stepping closer to the table.
“Can you just hold his leg still please? This ointment is gonna sting a bit so he might wriggle.” The younger man replied. “As soon as I’ve bandaged him up we can put him back at the edge of the forest so his parents can find him.”
As if on cue, another blood curdling screech rang out from the Forbidden Forest. The parents of the little thestral in front of him sounded even closer now and a stab of fear pierced Ashton’s chest as he carried out the orders Calum had given him. He could tell by the little beads of sweat springing up over his colleague’s brow and the slight trembling in his hands that Calum was nervous and perhaps a little scared, too.
Regardless of the emotions he was trying so hard to keep under control, Calum worked quickly and efficiently to bandage up the baby thestral’s leg before letting out a deep sigh of relief. “Okay, I need to get him back to the forest.”
Without hesitation, Ashton rushed to the front door whilst Calum carefully picked up the thestral. “I can manage now, if you wanna head back.” The younger man smiled, although his lingering anxiety about the current situation was still more than obvious in his voice and expression.
“I have nowhere else to be. Let me help you.” Ashton insisted, allowing his colleague to leave the hut first before following him to the edge of the Forbidden Forest.
“Wait here.” Calum instructed, his tone firm but kind. “I’m gonna take him a little way in so that he’s not too exposed until his mama gets to him.”
Part of Ashton wanted to argue that Calum shouldn’t do that alone. If the parents were closer than expected, they could attack the other professor and Ashton wouldn’t be there to help. “I’d rather stay close to you, just in case you need my help.”
A flicker of something like fondness flashed across Calum’s face for a moment before he simply nodded in acceptance of the older man’s offer.
Even though he was slightly shocked that Calum hadn’t put up a fight, Ashton willingly followed his colleague into the forest. It always amazed the astronomy teacher just how much darker everything became once you slipped beneath the dense canopy of twisted trees. As the castle with it’s distant flickering lights, the warm glow from Calum’s hut and the moonlight disappeared behind gnarled branches and thick leaves, Ashton lit the tip of his wand, stepping a little ahead of Calum so that they could both see where they were going. “How far into the forest do we need to go?” He asked after a moment of silence, trying not to sound too afraid.
Calum let out a weak chuckle as he scanned their surroundings. “Not far, there’s a little clearing just through here, this little guy’s parents should find him easily enough if I leave him there.”
It was kind of strange to Ashton, thinking about leaving a defenseless young creature in such a dark and unpredictable place, but there was not an ounce of doubt in his mind that Calum knew what he was doing.
A moment later, the two professors reached the little clearing that Calum had mentioned. A slither of moonlight broke through a gap in the trees, just enough to illuminate the small space.
“Put out your light and stay back.” Calum instructed as he placed the thestral down next to the raised root of a particularly tall tree. “I wanna wait to make sure his parents find him before anything less friendly does.”
Ashton had always known that the forbidden forest was the home to a whole bunch of unsavory creatures but right now, it was difficult for him to imagine anything less friendly than an angry, protective thestral. Despite this, he did as he was told and crouched behind a tree trunk to wait for his colleague.
Once the baby thestral was laid safely on the grass, Calum jogged over to where he’d left Ashton and crouched down next to him. The Astronomy teacher wasn't sure just how intentional it was, but Calum was suddenly impossibly close to him, pressed against his side as he watched the injured creature intently.
Before Ashton could even begin to fathom a way of finding out if Calum had meant to get so close, the baby thestral let out a sad cry. Even with his limited knowledge of the creatures, Ashton knew that the baby was calling for its parents and despite his caring instinct, the sound lit a spark of fear into the older man. That feeling only grew when the sound of hooves thudding against the earthy ground and the rustling of leaves being brushed aside by folded, batlike wings, started to grow louder.
Just a few seconds later, two large, very disgruntled looking thestrals trotted out into the clearing. One of them headed straight for the baby, dipping its head until its snout nudged that of the infant’s. The other creature stood in front of its mate and the baby, it’s sunken eyes scanning the surroundings and searching for any lingering threat.
For a heart-stopping moment the larger thestral looked directly at Ashton, it’s black eyes boring directly into his as it snorted threateningly. In an automatic and subconscious act of fear, he curled his fingers around Calum’s hand, gripping it tightly. It was only a second later, when the Care of Magical Creatures professor glanced at him out of the corner of his eye, that Ashton realised what he’d done.
Embarrassment flooded through the older man as he immediately let go of Calum’s hand and shuffled away from him a little.
Silently, Calum reached out and tangled his fingers through Ashton’s, a tiny, shy smile playing at the corners of his lips. She whispered a quiet “shh” before gesturing towards the edge of the forest in the direction they'd just come from. “We need to move quickly and quietly, yeah?”
Ashton nodded, obeying Calum’s words without a moment’s hesitation. He remained vividly aware of the younger man’s strong, reassuring grip on his hand through the few minutes it took them to get out of the Forbidden Forest and back to the open grounds of the castle.
Once they stepped out into the lighter air and softer ground of one of Hogwarts’ sweeping lawns, Ashton expected Calum to drop his hand, having spent the last couple of minutes convincing himself that the Care of Magical Creatures professor just wanted to keep Ashton safe in the dangerous forest. That never happened, though. Calum kept his fingers interlocked with his colleagues, even though the slight blush his cheeks deepened a little when Ashton glanced down out their entwined hands.
“I’m sorry you got scared back there.” Calum muttered, seemingly trying to address their physical connection indirectly. “That’s why I didn’t think you should go in there with me, Thestrals can be pretty scary when they feel threatened.”
Ashton dropped his gaze, realising that perhaps he was a little reckless, following Calum into unfamiliar territory and dealing with potentially dangerous creatures perhaps wasn’t the smartest move at all. “I just didn’t like the idea of you being in there alone, I’d never have forgiven myself if something bad had happened to you and I wasn’t there to help.”
Calum smiled softly as he leaned in closer and rested his head on the raven-haired man’s shoulder. “You’re a sweet guy, Ashton.” He whispered. “I can’t believe you ran all the way from the castle to come and help me.”
“Like I said…” Ashton replied with a tiny huff of laughter. “I just hate the thought of anything bad happening to you.”
The younger man lifted his head just enough to meet Ashton’s gaze. “We barely even talk outside of staff meetings and stuff, I’m a little shocked that you came all the way down here with such urgency.” He explained, his dark, contemplative eyes never leaving Ashton’s. “I’m really glad you did, though.”
Not wishing to get into a full-blown conversation about his shyness and lack of ability to flirt with anyone he finds attractive, Ashton simply forced an awkward smile. “I know I should have tried harder to talk to you more, I just…”
“I’m pretty shy too.” Calum chuckled nervously, tightening his grip on Ashton’s hand. “So I get it… and I appreciate you coming to help me. It’s lucky for me that you can see thestrals.”
An unbidden stab of pain burst through Ashton’s chest as he remembered the reason why he can see the dark creatures at all. Something of his sudden surge of emotions must have shown on his face because Calum stopped walking and pulled him into a tight, comforting hug. “I’m sorry...I had no right to say that to you, it was insensitive and stipid!”
“It’s okay.” Ashton sniffed, not even realising that tears had sprung to his eyes until he’d tried to speak. “It’s just…”
“You don’t have to tell me.” Calum whispered gently, stroking Ashton’s jet black curls softly. “I'm so sorry I even brought it up.”
Even though he rarely talked about the loss of his most beloved family member, Ashton felt the inexplicable need to tell Calum the whole story. “It was my grandpa.” He sniffed, burying his face into the younger man’s shoulder. “He’d been sick for a long time but when the time came, I wanted to be there for him. I was thirteen, but I refused to leave his bedside until he’d passed.”
Calum hushed the Astronomy teacher quietly, continuing to stroke his hair as Ashton sobbed softly. “I’m really sorry, Ash. That must have been so tough. I'm sure he appreciated you staying with him, though… You two must have been really close.”
Ashton nodded. “We were. I used to visit him in the school holidays and we’d go for walks along the beach near where he lived. If no one else was around he’d use magic to create pretty sparkling patterns in the sand or to make the seaweed and shells dance.” He let out a watery laugh before pulling back to look Calum in the eye.
“That’s adorable.” Calum grinned, although there was a tinge of sadness to his expression. “I’m so glad you have all of those happy memories with him.”
Despite feeling a bit silly that he was still so upset by the loss of his grandfather so many years ago, Ashton felt somehow closer to Calum, like maybe this outpouring of emotion was needed to show a little vulnerability. It suddenly hit him, as he stared into the younger man’s deep brown eyes, that Calum must have a heartbreaking story too. “I’m sorry that you must have had a similar situation…”
Calum lifted a hand to cradle Ashton’s cheek. “I don’t want to talk about mine.” He whispered. “Not yet, anyway. Yours was loving and you have happy memories to comfort you, so let's end the conversation there for now, yeah?”
It wasn’t really a question, more of a plea. Ashton had no intention of pushing Calum to talk about anything he didnt feelcomformatable discussing. He nodded, allowing a tiny smile to tug at the corners of his mouth. “Can I still walk you back to your hut, though? I kinda wanna make sure you’re safe at home before I head back to the castle.”
Calum let out a small chuckle. “I was really hoping you’d want to come inside for a bit. I have some butterbeer and a whole bag of honeydukes sweets that I’ve been meaning to break into. I could definitely use some help getting through those if you’re up for it. It's not like you have to get up early for your classes, is it?” He laughed openly, his beautiful eyes sparkling with a note of mischief that Ashton had never seen there before.
“Are you teasing me for the fact that all of my classes are at night, Professor Hood?” He smirked, embracing the slightly brighter turn in conversation.
The Care of Magical Creatures teacher simply quirked an eyebrow before he continued pulling Ashton towards his little hut. “Perhaps… Anyway, let me feed you sugary treats and tell you about some of my creatures that are a bit less macabre before I kiss you goodnight and send you back off to your lonely Astronomy Tower.”
That hint of mischief was still there and Ashton’s heart beat faster in his chest as he allowed Calum’s promise of a goodnight kiss to echo in his mind.

okay, i have two concepts for you, take your time with these--- 1. ashton dating a writer/bookworm, okay? someone who only wants books for everything, christmas, birthdays etc, going to old bookstores with her. 2. having this anxiety thing where you just start drawing on your or your friends hand, and dating calum, who lets you draw on his hand when you are feeling a bit anxious, always carrying markers around with him cause no one knows when you'll need them, and then he gets some of your
Tumblr media
alrighty excuse the awkward screenshot I put in of pt 2 cause I don't know how to do that thing where they answer 2 asks at once anyyyyywayyyys I did the second one first cause I just love it. Ahhh its so cute.
So like anxiety is a thing that exists. And it sucks. Like everything just becomes too much and then a panic attack happens and everyone is on you asking if you’re okay but you really just want them to go away and be left alone but you can’t tell them that cause you’re terrified you’ll start bawling or you’re hyperventilating so you don’t have the breath to get the words out. Yeah anxiety sucks…
Thankfully though, you found a life hack™. You’ve always been pretty decent at drawing and you would carry around a notebook and a pack of pens. Drawing helped focus your attention to one thing, one goal, rather than be consumed by the creeping feelings of paranoia.
You’d usually have a pack of pens in your bag, but sometimes there would be days you’d forget to bring a notebook. Not to worry though, your friends were pretty understanding and encouraging of your way to ward off anxiety attacks and if they noticed you were getting a bit anxious, they’d gladly offer up their arms as a canvas.
Now that Calum was in your life, your day to day schedule became a little more hectic. You went with him to events, photoshoots, basically wherever you could tag along without disturbing the process. But no matter how chaotic your agenda became, you wouldn’t trade it for the world. I mean come on, you had Calum. That’s better than any planet. He just understood you so well.
With the new craze of day to day life, you’d sometimes forget your pens too.
Calum was quite a fan of your habit. He loved the way you could transform a blank space into a mesmerizing piece of art. He started to notice you would panic if you didn’t have a pen on you, so he bought a few packs and kept one on him at all times.
For your 6 month anniversary he went out and got one of your sketches tattooed on him, a human heart with intricate roses sprouting from the arteries. He surprised you with it after you came home from dinner when you were both heading to the bedroom.
When he was first introducing you to the rest of the band, he would come home with elaborate sketches of random things covering his entire arms. Meeting people was hard for you, especially when you’ve looked up to them, idolized them for years never even getting your hopes up to meet them let alone be in a relationship with one.
You were closest with Ashton out of the other three. Mostly because he was around a lot. It wasn’t unusual for you to come home to Calum and Ashton playing video games or something. Obviously Ashton would see you drawing on Calums arms all the time, not really realizing at first that was how you dealt with your anxiety. But as Ashton got to know you, he learned about your anxiety and was quite impressed to learn that you were the artist behind Calums tattoo.
Michael and Luke also learned about your anxiety and they loved getting temporary tattoos done by you. Sometimes they’d have to play rock paper scissors to see who gets to be turned into a work of art. You’d end up drawing on the other one after you finished one even if you weren’t anxious anymore. They just wouldn’t stop bugging you until you did.
The first time you were at a major event, Calum had to step out for a few minutes to do an interview. You were not used to the large crowds mostly made up of world-renowned musicians and started to feel a panic attack coming on. Thankfully you remembered your pens this time and grabbed one out of your bag, beginning to tap it nervously against your leg in an effort to ward off the feeling until Calum came back. Ashton had been sitting beside you and recognized that look on your face and immediately slipped into protective mode (we all know he’s got one). He rolled up his sleeve and held out his arm to you “draw on me till Calum gets back?” He asked but it wasn’t really a question. He really hated seeing you suffer like this. So you gave him a detailed drawing of a mountain landscape with the night sky above and he loved it, jokingly asking you to sign it.
At the end of the night, just after you stepped into the car, Calum thanks Ashton for being there when he couldn’t before they get into the car as well and Calum realizes Ashton is someone he can trust as much as himself with you.

All The Hues of Blue Ch. 10
Sooooo, I thought I would have enough time to post tonight, but I’m still making my way through editing. And since I feel bad for giving a posting date and then not meeting it, I’m posting here another snippet. (in case any of the people reading in ao3 comes looking for my tumblr xD)
Here you go! (chapter will be posted midday tomorrow :3)
“Hi.”
“Hey.” Ashton whispered back, kind of lost in Calum’s eyes. They were beautiful up close. Always a trap.
He sneaked his arms around Calum’s waist, drawing him in for a kiss, making the younger sigh on top of him. Ashton licked his lips, tasting something familiar.
“You taste like Christmas cookies.” He murmured when they broke apart. “Why do you taste like Christmas cookies?”
“I may have eaten raw dough.” Calum whispered back, like it was a secret.
“Why didn’t you say that was allowed? You wouldn’t let me when we baked them back home.” Ashton complained, pouting.
Calum giggled on top of him, his eyes crinkling up. He looked happy. Ashton was glad.
“Will you forgive me for that if I lead you to it now?” Calum asked as soon as he sobered up. “There’s still some left, but we need to be quick, Dad’s about to get the last batch on the oven.”
At that he got up, offering Ashton a hand, pulling him up from the bed and raising his other hand to stabilise them when Ashton lost his footing right as he stood up, taking the sheets with him. He laughed before he leaned forward, stealing a kiss from Calum’s lips and leaving him dumbfounded when Ashton pulled back.
“Should I dress up?”
Calum smiled, shaking his head no. He had lent Ashton some sweatpants to sleep on because Ashton had forgot to pack his, and he wasn’t going to put on pyjamas just as he got here. The pants felt worn down and soft.
“Nah, no one’s going to care. I’m wearing same as you.” He gestured down, and sure enough, he was wearing comfy clothes also, a sweatshirt and some joggers. “Plus, I like you in my clothes.”
Calum’s smile wasn’t as smug-like as Ashton had thought it would be, it was just a small grin, slightly hinting at some bashfulness behind Calum’s words at having admitted it. Ashton felt warmth spreading all through his body from his core, blood rushing to his cheeks. He giggled softly, his eyes darting away from Calum’s in an attempt to conceal just how many feelings that simple phrase had caused to be floating around in his chest.
“Lead the way to the cookie dough, then.”

Chapter Twenty Two ※ ※ ※ ※ ※ Chapter Twenty Four
Luke pov.
I sit at the end of the bed, exhausted and with a full head. I hear the shower rattle, praying that the girl in there won't pass out during bath. I had sworn today was the last time I was going out with a strange girl from the club. It was goodbye before I got my head back on my feet, but of course something was going to go wrong.
She had to have drunk too much and she had to be sick. I rub my forehead in defeat. I twirl the ring on my finger, remembering the day Marnie threw up on my floor. A short laugh escapes me as I also remember her reactions when she remembered.
““Everything happens quickly. One second she's about to kiss me and the next she's squeezing my hands as she drops everything onto my floor. I look up just wondering how this could be happening to me. Am I a really bad guy?
“Oh my God.” I hear your low voice. I look at Marnie, pale, just wanting to let go of my grip and jump into the pool with the intention of drowning. “I'm sorry. I'm so sorry.” she starts to repeat, almost crying.
“It's ok. Are you better, I don't know?” I pay attention to her icy hands and heavy breathing.
Of course she's not okay, idiot. She is feeling sick in front of you. Where does she look good? My conscience screams.
Of course it's the drink. She jumped out the bathroom window and walked over to see me. I try not to smile remembering this fact, as this is not the right time to react to Marnie's romantic attitudes.
M&Ms continue to apologize and my heart breaks when I see tears forming in her eyes. Fuck my floor, she's about to cry.
I pull Marnie away from the damage, wanting to make sure she's better. She refuses to take her hand away from her face, still embarrassed. It wasn't a big deal either, it's not like I've never thrown up at any of my friends' houses.
I became friends with Leah after throwing up on her new couch and today we laughed about it. Well, at least I laugh, I think she has not really over what happened.
“Hey, it's okay.” I hug her. But M&Ms just shake her head in no, starting to cry.
“It's not okay.” her voice was muffled. "I threw up in front of you. On your floor. I wanna die.” I close my eyes, trying hard not to laugh. It's not the moment.
“It's okay, babe. Come, let's take care of you.” I pick her up, carrying upstairs.
Petunia wakes up from sleep and lifts her head, noticing our presence in the room, but goes back to bed when I order to stay. I sit Marnie on the bed, still worried about her condition.
“I'm sorry. Oh Lord, I swear if I knew this was going to happen... I'll pay for everything.” she slurs on the words, wiping away the tears. I hold back a laugh seeing her worried about a damn floor.
“Marnie, I don't care about the floor. Fuck some wooden planks. I'm worried about you. Do you still feel something?” I toss your hair back, leaving her face free.
She just nods positively, still not looking at me. I leave a kiss on your forehead and a request for stay still. I go downstairs quickly, getting water and a medicine for her.
Going up the steps, I hear again her noise putting everything out. A shiver that this isn't just drinking, that she's maybe really sick, that it's something more serious, surrounds me. I find her leaving the bathroom and returning to sit on the bed.
“Here. You'll feel better.” I hand the pill and water, crouching down in front of her, seeing if that's how she looks at me. I give knee a gentle pat, just hoping she'll be all right soon. "Can you stay here with Petunia for a while?" she nods. “Great! Piggy, take care of Marnie. I'll be right back. Anything, just scream.”
I go down again, now to clear everything. I take the opportunity and call the girls, letting them know that M&Ms are with me, but I have my doubts that they processed the information. And I'm also pretty sure Marnie told her about our arguing earlier, as I overheard Leah cursing me.
I'm not proud that I said I didn't want to hear from her anymore. Not to say that I would never have a serious relationship with her. But Marnie can drive me crazy. This carefree way, detached from everything, as if she didn't like to be with me, makes me have a need to prove that I'm also like that in relation to her.
I grab another bottle of water and return to the bedroom, finding Petunia now on top of the bed, lying next to Marnie, who is petting her. I hold back a little, not wanting to cut the scene. I like to see the two together. I like the way Marnie treats Petunia, and I also notice how Piggy likes her.
“Better?” I break the silence, seeing M&Ms glance at me quickly, before looking away again.
“Yep. I think I'd better go home now.” she heads toward the door, but I grab your waist, not letting take another step beyond me.
“You're not leaving here. You are still not well and you have too much alcohol in your blood. I won't let you go.” Marnie opens her mouth, but I cut her off. "Let me take care of you, for God's sake?"
“I've already given you too much trouble, look what I've done on…”
“If you talk about my floor again…” I just laugh and ultimately can make her look at me. I hug her body, bringing closer. “Come on? You can't deny it was funny.” I tease her, seeing her face hide in my chest. “Honey, I really don't care about the floor.”
My throat locks when I realize I was going to say that I only care about her. I blink a few times, now analyzing all the way here. I notice the many times I just cared about Marnie and nothing else.
“You need to take a shower to get better. What do you think?” I whisper with my face lying on top of your head. “Uhm?”
Marnie just nods and lets me lead her to the bathroom. As she undresses, keeping her panties and bra on, I grab a T-shirt of mine for her to wear later.
As a precaution, I run my hand over her cheek, noticing how hot she is. Shit, does she have a fever?! I enter the box, projecting the viewfinder so the water comes out a little cold. She really needs to lower that temperature and get rid of the alcohol in her blood.
“You need to take a cold shower first.” I comment, seeing her eyes widen.
“No!” she takes a step back. “No! Not cold water.”
Fast I forward towards her, not letting Marnie leave the bathroom. I try to argue that she needs it, while the woman continues to deny it, holding on to the sink. My God, not even a kid is that much work.
"Luke? Luke? Luke? Luke?” she starts calling to me as soon as I manage to hold her body away from anything she can use to hold on. “Please. Not cold water, please. Please.”
I stop for a second, closing my eyes and making my decision. Why am I doing all this?
"I'll go in with you."
“What?” Marnie stops struggling.
"I'll go in with you." I let her go, and she stays still, not understanding what I mean. I take off my clothes, leaving only my underwear.
I pull Marnie by the hand, which this time can't resist. I position under the shower and pull her myself into my arms, where she curls up, hiding her face in my chest. I turn on the water, feeling the contrast of my warm body to the cold temperature, letting it hit me first so she doesn't suffer so much. I close my eyes, trying to ignore the cold water and concentrate on why I'm doing all this at 3 am.
Little by little, the water runs down the small body in my arms. I feel Marnie shiver a little and I hug her more, kissing her hair.
“Just a little longer, babe.” I whisper, rubbing her back.
I change the temperature, already feeling the warmer water hit me. I help Marnie take a shower, wondering when I've done all this for a girl.
I let her dry off while I make the bed for us to lie down and change in the closet. Petunia already takes up her post at the end of the bed, not caring how many times I asked her to come down.
I go back to the bathroom, with Marnie already dressed, just getting the water out of her hair. I can't let her lie down like this, otherwise, then she's going to get sick.
I pick up the dryer, positioning myself behind her.
“What are you going to do?” she steps to the side suspiciously.
"I was going to dry your hair." I answer, as if it were obvious, after all I have the dryer in my hand. I watch M&Ms open their mouths, maybe ready to protest, but I just turn on the dryer, interrupting her.
Marnie closes her mouth and so I turn off the dryer. Again, she prepares to speak and I turn the machine back on, holding back my laughter as she rolls her eyes. We repeated this twice more, until she hit me.
"You're going to burn it. Stop it.” she asks sullenly. "And stop laughing."
I bite my lip but still can't hold back my laughter. Reluctantly, I dry her hair quickly, just so I won't let her sleep like that.
“Come on, young lady. Bed!” I order, while I tidy the bathroom.
Marnie leans against the headboard and covers her legs. I watch from a distance Petunia run to her lap, laying her head in it. I approach smiling and sitting on the edge.
“Better?” I ask, again checking her temperature, which looks better.
“Yes! Thanks. And sorry-”
I don't even bother to argue. I bring my lips to hers, shutting her up once and for all.
“I already told you it's okay. Ok?” I whisper, close to your face.
“Okay!”
"I'll take the towels out to dry and be right back." I leave a small kiss on her lips before I go.
I'm off taking our clothes to the machine. I stop in the kitchen, leaning on the counter and accepting the final verdict on all my questions since she got here.
I'm in love with her.
And there's no way I can try to deny it. Honestly, it would be ridiculous for me to try. I can't stop thinking about her, much less stay away for more than two days. I need to hear her voice all the time and do anything stupid just to see her smile and know that I was responsible for this.
I want to be able to hold your hand wherever we go. To be able to steal a kiss without worrying about what everybody will think. Most of all, I want to be able to introduce her as my girlfriend and say every day how much I like her.
I hurried upstairs, feeling my chest burst with happiness and elation. I don't know if she feels the same way. If she wants to be with me, but I will declare myself. I need to at least try.
"Marnie?" I break off, seeing her body lying on the bed, breathing deeply. She slept.
I think about waking her up, but I remember how badly she needs this rest. I save all my words for tomorrow as I lie down beside her and watch your body hug mine. I squeeze her in my arms, leaving another kiss on her forehead.""
"Luke?" a muffled female voice brings me back to reality. I walk to the door, finding Ana, already without makeup and with her curly hair tied back.
“Thanks!” I say, giving her room to enter. "Where's Sophie?" I question, following her. Lately the two live glued together.
“She turned it off in the car. Where is the girl?”
I point to the bathroom, handing Ana a change of clothes to help the girl. I don't stare her, ashamed that I need help.
“Ash says if you want to wait in his room…” she shrugs. I accept the invitation, leaving.
I stop in front of my friend's room, wondering if that would be a good idea. I know I'm insufferable and that I didn't take the attitude he wanted the day before yesterday. I'm also aware that I've been pushing away everyone who's trying to help me.
"Are you going in or not?" I jump in fright when I hear my friend's voice, wondering how he knows I'm there. "I can see the shadow of your feet. Come in!”
Still a little lost, I walk into the room, finding him sitting on the couch, rolling a joint. I approach, quietly, sitting beside him. I close my eyes, feeling every muscle in my body scream and my head spin.
“Hard night?’ he asks, still focused on his work.
"What am I doing wrong?" I question, staring at the ceiling.
“Everything and nothing at the same time." he hands me the joint. I stare at him, feeling the weight of that gesture. “She is not here.”
I pick up the joint, lighting it and inhaling. I repeat the phrase over and over, feeling the weight of it more and more. I move to Ash, who also brings it silently.
"She would kill me if she knew that." Ash lets out a low laugh. I follow him, nodding.
Marnie always knew the boys and I smoked from time to time, especially when writing songs and after a few shows. But it's not like she liked this habit very much. She was always death scared to someone would offer something different and we would sink into it.
She watched a lot of documentaries and read a lot of articles about artists who got lost in drugs and drinking.
“I miss her.” I confess, for the first time aloud, after the end. I don't know if it was from the confession or the weed, but it feels like a huge weight has lifted off of me.
“I know! It's not like you know how to hide very well." he counters.
I don't answer, ashamed. I know I got lost this past month, that everyone is right that these one-night stands aren't doing me any good or helping me move forward.
“You know, I know you need to get over it, but blocking her out of your life completely isn't going to do it. You need to learn to deal with this pain. Know how to manage this range of feelings. It's one step at a time. One day at a time. It's not your first breakup, Luke.” Irwin sits down on the sofa, punching my arm.
“I know! But that's what hurt the most. I don't think I've ever been in love like I am now. I wanted to marry her, Ashton. I dreamed of our family. Have two kids, a boy and a girl. Every time we took care of Kendall and Samantha, I figured they were our kids. I imagined what our future would be like.” the words run over me, taking me by surprise.
It was good to let off steam, it made the weight of my chest lessen. Ashton looks at me calmly, doesn't judge me and much less my imagination.
“I try to keep my feet on the ground, but I'm still hopeful that one day she'll come back. I do not know. In the future we'll meet again and I would try, if she wanted me again. I would take her back because I just want her. I want to hear her complain about my boots at the door. About the clothes on the bathroom floor. Or about the mess in my closet.”
I sit on the couch, resting my elbows on my knees. I gasp, heave, feeling my chest wanting to get more words trapped inside.
“Every time I pack my bags, I can see her sitting on the bed, sulking, because I'm leaving. Every time I sing Best Years, I see her. I can see her in every word, in every comma. Please just tell me she's fine.” I look at Ashton desperately.
She passed out and went to the hospital, I didn't go to see her, I don't know her condition and that bothers me. No article reveals what really happened, or how it is.
‘She is fine! Leah has been keeping me informed. It was just a blood pressure drop. Apparently Marnie has too much work and hasn't been too careful.”
“I hate it when she does that.” I complain, taking the joint and inhaling.
"Eddie too. At least now, he managed to get her to take a break.” I look at Ashton, confused and curious.
"Eddie?" I don't like the name.
“Yeah! He's like Noah. Take care of her schedule.” I still stare at him lost. “Dark hair, wears glasses…”
His image pops into my mind and I roll my eyes. The guy looks like a puppy behind her. Eating lunch together, accompanying her on interviews, taking Marnie to museums. I was the one who took her to museums. I was the one watching her draw.
“Calm down, jealous. They are friends and he is the one who takes care of her. We should thank him. According to Leah, he's a nice guy and he's doing everything to make the M&Ms okay.”
I give the arm a little twist, considering Leah's opinion. If she trusts him, I trust him too. I take a deep breath, already feeling my body lighter.
"Why don't you come meditate with me tomorrow morning?" Irwin invites me, making me laugh.
"You know I'm not good for that." I look at him, still laughing.
"I could give it a chance. Marnie liked it, it helped her get her mind straight. Why don't you give it a try?”
I lost count of how many times I woke up and found M&Ms meditating in the pool. Or how many times I accompanied her to Ash's house, just watching the two of them killing each other to do poses and then leaving full bruises from their tumbles.
I shrug, accepting the invitation, maybe it would do me good. I stay with Ashton for a few more minutes, until Ana appears, saying that the girl was already gone. I embrace the silence of the bedroom, heading into the bedroom and leaving my bags ready for tomorrow.
I fold my blouses, managing to hear their sighs and huffs, stomping around the room. I look at the headboard, seeing her perfectly.
““Arms crossed, face closed and a pout on the lips. I hold back a laugh, watching Marnie out of the corner of my eye.
"Can you get my 'That's Cool Baby' jacket, please?" I ask, watching amused, Marnie roll her eyes and march into the closet, bringing my jacket. “Thanks, babe.” I appreciate it when she throws her jacket with unnecessary force. "You could have been helping me." I comment.
“Why? You seem to be handling the situation very well.” she grumbles, leaning back against the headboard. “What are you laughing at?” your face closes more. "Do I look like a clown?"
“Don't ask questions you know I'll answer and you won't like them.” I point my finger at her. Marnie gets up from the bed, but I hold her.”Stop making that face, it's only been two months.” I hold your face, holding her still.
"The way you talk doesn't even sound like you care." M&Ms don't hug me back, still keeping their arms crossed.
“What? Do you think I won't miss your bad mood? From your singing with Petunia? From your deformed pancakes?” I kiss her neck, managing a smile. Slowly she uncrosses her arms.
"Don't talk bad about my pancakes. It's not their fault they're not round.” I take her finger, pointed at me, pulling her hand out to hug me.
“You know that's why I love them, don't you? And I love you.” I know I disarmed her.
“You know I hate it when you do that.” Marnie complains, still trying to maintain the pose.
“Do you hate it when I say I love you?” I joke, teasing her more.
“I hate it when you keep saying cute things, when clearly I'm trying hard to fight you.” I let out a laugh. "I don't want you to leave." Marnie whispers, hugging me upset.
“I know! But I'm not leaving fighting you. This does not reduce homesickness or facilitate it.”
Marnie doesn't respond, just hugs me tighter. I kiss her shoulder, feeling the weight of the moment now. I will be away from her for two months. Currently I can't even stay a day.
"What have you done to me, McGonagall?" I whisper.
“Don't blame me. You fucked me too.” she responds tearfully.
“That I really did.” the answer comes out before I can stop it, resulting in a kick to my shin and a scream.
“Luke!""
I know it might be the worst decision I'm making, but I can't think of anything else that makes me feel better than this. I reach for the bedroom phone, dialing the sequence I know by heart.
I dry my right hand, feeling cold and sweaty. I suck in air with more effort than usual, forcing myself to keep my breathing normal. After the third ring, her curious voice rings in my ears, like the most beautiful melody I've ever heard.
"Hello?"
I can't say anything. My mind feels like a big empty space. Deep down, I don't even want to talk, I just want to hear your voice.
"Hello?" Marnie repeats again. "Are you listening to me? Cuz can't I hear anything.” she explains quickly, flustered, pulling a smile from me.
I run my fingers over my lips, wanting to make sure I was really smiling. There were days when I didn't practice that expression so willingly.
"Hiii? Look, if you're really listening to me… oh dammit, I can't believe I lost the ring again, how is that possible?!” right now, I have to cover my mouth so I don't laugh.
Marnie and her ring problem.
"I'll hang up and call back to see if I can hear you. Goodbye!” the line drops and I know it's over.
As promised, she returns, but I don't answer, I can't be tempted to talk to her. I need to let her go. If she has to go back, she will. My hand itches, wanting to answer it and at least hear her voice one more time. After two more tries, M&Ms give up, no longer calling me.
I finish packing my bags and tidy up some things in the room. I tidy boots in the doorway and used towels in the bathroom.
The clock was already striking close to 4 am, when I reached for the guitar, sitting on the couch and strumming our song.
I swore I would give her the best years. After all the tears, heartaches and fears. I would take care of her, as I always did, as she always did for me. I would make her happy, heal all the bruises from before, but I didn't get that chance. Even though it hurt, though I choked, I have to admit that I hope Aidan makes her happy.
Marnie pov.
I watch Aidan absorb the new information, silently. I poke at the skin of my nail, eager for what he would say. We've barely had five dates and I'm already kicking him, and I'm not going to lie to say I'm feeling bad about it. Aidan is a nice guy and very kind, but he's not Luke and he doesn't even make my heart beat like the same.
“I honestly didn't expect this.” he comments after a few minutes. “I mean, I'm glad you got your memory back. I just didn't think I'd want to get back together with that guy.”
Even without using an aggressive tone, the way he refers to Luke as “that guy” bothers me. I know Luke made some mistakes, as did I, and it's just up to the two of us to deal with it.
“I love Luke and things like that don't go away overnight.” I control the hard tone of voice that insists on leaving.
“Still, he didn't come after you. He preferred to go out with other girls…”
“Aidan, I know what Luke did and I know what I did to cause it. And that matter only he and I will solve. The only thing I wanted was to talk to you and be honest. I don't think it's right to play with your feelings.”
I notice Aidan raise his eyebrows discreetly, batting something back at my speech.
“Well, if that was all, it's settled. Goodbye, Marnie, and good luck. You will need it, if you really choose to be with that kid.” Aidan picks up his things and left the cafe door.
What a son of a bitch!
I walk home, still cursing Aidan with every step I take. I don't know why I'm surprised he was offended, he's a man. I open the door, halting my steps when I find the scene of girls putting on Noah's makeup. The three stop, staring back at me.
"You promised you'd wait for me." I drop my bag on the armchair, approaching.
“Oh, you took too long.” Noah complains, combing a green lace.
“How was it?” Kyleen questions.
“As expected. He didn't really like being kicked. He called Luke a kid.” I roll my eyes sulkily.
“What a jerk.” Noah commented.
“I think he were the only person who wasn't happy that my amnesia was over.” I mean.
“Do not say that! We know someone who will be even less happy.” Leah says, eliciting a laugh from me.
"I can't wait to end John's happiness." I comment, counting the days until they arrive in New York.
[...]
I turn the pancake on the plate, just listening to the steps upstairs. Last night the twins managed to convince me and Kyleen to go clubbing and well, some people drank too much. What was not my case, in the end, I ended up taking care of two drunks.
I toss the pancake batter onto the plate, watching out of the corner of my eye as Leah come down with a frown. I take the mug with the tea, placing it in front of her.
“Good Morning!” I say.
“Please stop screaming.” she rubbed her temples. I hold back a laugh, deciding not to tease her on hangover.
We remained silent until Kiki came down, frowning as well. I give her the same tea, putting pancakes on her plate.
"I never drink like this again. God, I'm not young enough for this anymore.” Jones complains, prodding the pancake with her fork.
“Don’t tell me! Who was it let me drink like this?” Hastings, sighs.
Before I can respond, I hear footsteps on the stairs, seeing a blond guy with a beard and fit, walking past us with a slight wave, heading towards the door. Noah follows him, saying nothing to the three of us who watch the scene without understanding.
The twin stops beside his sister, stealing some grapes from the plate, still not saying anything.
"Are you going to tell or do I need to hit you with the spatula?" I question, crazy for information.
“There's nothing to tell. We met yesterday and he offered to bring me home.” I start laughing at my friend's face.
"Bring you home or bring you to bed?" Kyleen questions, raising her eyebrows.
“Both!” he responds, smiling.
"What about that Parker guy?" I ask.
“No! Too much drama for me. I can't.”
"Too much drama? You didn't date Luke, did you?” I joke, making them laugh.
“I'm coming in.” I hear Eddie's voice approaching, until he appears in the kitchen. “Good morning everybody. Did you have a good night?”
At that moment, I notice Kiki holding Leah's hand, so she doesn't give a rude answer to the poor boy, who doesn't know how loving and kind she gets with a hangover.
“Please say you brought good news.” Noah asks, clapping his hands. Unlike his sister, he is excited.
“Great, actually.” Eddie gets my attention by holding out a piece of paper.
I pick up the sheet reading “Meeting with John Letterman. 08-29 at 5pm”. I look at Eddie with wide eyes, handing the paper to the trio, who come over to read it.
“You got it?” I ask, moving closer to him.
“You'll have an hour to talk to Luke before he leaves for the show at the Apple studio. Your free pass to the hotel and to their floor is already arranged. Just do your part, Mars.” Eddie smiles. I leap into his arms, crushing him. Whispering several ‘thank you!’
1 week later…
I take a deep breath, feeling my heart want to come out of my mouth. Inside the car, we watched the hotel, waiting for idiot John to leave for the meeting. No matter how hard I suck in the air, it never feels like enough.
In a few minutes I would be with Luke, after a month. The worst month of my life. For the thousandth time, I go over the text in my mind, even though I know that by the time I see it, I'll forget everything.
I dry my hands on my skirt, feeling the nervousness grow by the second. I fantasized a million scenarios for what could happen. The ones I most desire are the ones Luke either won't let me talk to, kissing me right away, or the one who first lets me explain and then kisses me.
“It's him!” I follow Eddie's finger, seeing John leaving the hotel and getting into a silver car. A shiver runs down my spine. I will finish him. “Let's go!” he says as soon as the car leaves.
We crossed the street quickly, entering the hotel reception, which was not so busy. I squint, maybe wanting to find Luke or one of the boys over there, but I can't find anything.
“Go! Do not waste time. I'll stay here watching.” I nod nervously, taking a step toward the elevator, but Eddie holds me back.
“What?” I question, in a panic.
“Nothing! I just want to wish you good luck and forgive me for the indiscretion, but I really hope you don't come back with me today.” I notice his cheeks flushing. I open a smile, finding his reaction cute.
“I hope so too, Eddie.” I place a kiss on his cheek before running for the elevators.
I squeeze the 15th floor, feeling my legs go limp. Every number pass on the display made my stomach turn. I hold back the urge to scream every time I stop on a floor and it takes years for someone to leave or enter. Until finally I was 15th.
I exit the elevator, finding the hall and hallway empty but with a muffled noise from one of the bedrooms. I can hear Michael's indignant screams about Calum beating him in the video game.
I open a smile, approaching the door, feeling a warmth envelop me. They are so close. Focus on the number 1504, two doors away. I take a deep breath, taking the courage to knock. The time had finally come.
I knock twice, praying he's there so I can talk to him without the euphoria of the guys. I hear footsteps and feel my body freeze. The door doesn't open and I worry between him not hearing it or not wanting to open it for me.
Again, I knock on the door, this time harder. The footsteps return and I hear the door lock. I hold my breath for a few seconds, feeling the ground drop from my feet. My heart sinks into an agonizing pain that seems to have no end.
I stare at the figure in the red silk blouse, with few buttons open, with the likely misfortune of not wearing anything underneath. The messy hair and the poisonous smile on her face.
I feel short of breath and my heart bleed inside my chest. My mouth is so dry, her name barely comes out.
"Pamela?"
oh no!
