Best Female: Casey Calderon (Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur) 

What do you do when you have somebody who is not only the best employee by managing your social media but is also the best friend? You make them into Best Female which is how Casey María Eva Duarte Goldberg-Calderon from Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur got here.

I just really love the spunk that Casey brings to the show. Her goal is to make Moon Girl the most beloved superhero which is why she manages all of the social media and publicity that Moon Girl has. Though, because she has always been into social media more than anything else she always puts off the others around her. That is until she met Lunella. And since then she has been on the rise up as a friend, person and just fun to watch.

Casey has no superpowers. No super brain or anything. Just a girl with a cellphone and knows a lot about fashion. Still, in a city of superpower problems and shenanigans, Casey is always standing by Lunella to help. From friend things to Moon Girl things. She has no fear (well she does) as she is willing to step up and do what she can to ensure that her best friend isn’t doing it alone. Casey helps in her own way such as motivating others around her to help Moon Girl or simply just supporting her friend in her own way. Helping Lunella see things in a different way or just helping in ways that only she can.

After all, somebody has to make the costume or provide a wig when their best friend creates a potion that makes their hair so straight that it falls off their head and makes themselves bald. 

I also just love how she has her own flaws and she owns up to them. During her bar mitzvah she goes crazy and forgets the meaning of the whole ceremony. So much so that she gets into an argument with Lunella. Still, she owns up to it and realizes what happens. Proving that she has came a long way since her first episode.

And because she is such a best friend and best at her job, who else can take Best Female then Casey.

Honorable Mention: Ramona (Scott Pilgrim Takes Off)- She was originally going to be Best Female but I couldn’t write enough to make me feel like I justify it. Glad she was able to take off and do her thing but I feel like there is more beyond her.

Holy shit I just watched the most amazing first episode of a new show!

Okay, reasons why everyone should watch 'Moon Girl'… GO!

It's got so much style. Creative art direction, bright colours, excellent music, etc. I will warn that there's a lot of flashing for anyone who is sensitive to that kind of thing.

The main character, Lunella aka Moon Girl, is a delight. She's smart, driven, full of sunshine, brave, caring, and a mutual aid queen! Like she's out there not just fighting crime, but serving the community in all the ways she can. I love her so much!

Representation. She's a young Black girl for one, and her best friend Casey is Pueto Rican-Jewish. I think there may be a queer romance blossoming between them, but we'll see. (I could just be reading something into their relationship that the writers didn't intend.) The way this show represents low socio-economic/POC-dominated neighbourhoods feels refreshing too, but I'm also not the most qualified to judge that since I'm white and from Australia, so I don't have lived experience to compare the setting against.

The bond Lunella has with her dinosaur sidekick is so precious! It forms quickly, but feels organic.

I really love Casey's character too. She's obsessed with social media and being an influencer, but she isn't made out to seem shallow or mean because of it. She's really supportive and encouraging of Lunella while still being her own person, and I can see those two going far together.

Lunella's family is amazing! Especially the grandma. I can see why Lunella is so motivated to protect them and bring them all the support she can.

I actually teared up. And this is only the beginning of what I'm sure will be an amazing series.

In conclusion... watch Moon Girl. Watch it, and then let's grow the fandom! I want this to be the next big cartoon show that everyone is obsessed with. Please can we make that happen!
