Yoga and meditation are for everybody AND body! The way you move in and out of the different postures will vary according to you and how you are feeling during your practice. I have heard my patients say, “I’m not flexible enough for yoga and I cannot imagine myself meditating.” In reality, yoga is about flexibility of your mind, not your body. Wherever you are starting from, you are welcome to join us tomorrow and every Tuesday, to September 24th for FREE yoga classes being offered here at the Grewal Center for Mind Body Medicine. @grewalcentermd “When we learn to breathe diaphragmatically, we can quiet our whole system in just one breath”, our guided meditation instructor, Sunny Davis shares her calming voice here over the benefits of breathing with your diaphragm. This breathing technique helps to calm down your parasympathetic nervous system which conserves and stores energy and regulates basic body functions such as digestion. When you activate this system, it produces a relaxed feeling in your body and mind. Try it! Take a moment to pause whatever you are doing and place your hand on your belly. Take a slow inhale and feel your belly rise and upon a slow exhale, feel it gently fall. Your shoulders should not be going up and down, only your belly, as you activate your diaphragm and your parasympathetic nervous system.
