All right, normally I stick to cut scenes and cutups (AKA bloopers) for ER, because I'm a wuss about both medical stuff and second-hand embarrassment.  But I did want to capture this cute Kem x Carter moment that introduces their relationship in the tenth episode of the tenth season well before the show spent that finale highlighting that the show believed in the maxim of "happy, stable couples are boring to watch".

If the writers were trying to imply this, the message went right over my head. Carter and Kem were so dull together.

I know the ER writers wanted to imply that Kem was Carter’s soulmate but that relationship was literally just him and her doing all the same things wrong that doomed his immediately previous relationship with Abby. Both of them deciding that they belong together because it feels “right” without considering potential incompatibilities or why it might not be be a good idea.

So, I just binged ER and I love a lot about the show. Most of the characters and of the actors who played them were great. The medical writing for the show was also excellent.

My pet peeve for ER is true for many shows: The writers regularly committed writing malpractice against their own characters.

Dr. John Carter is a great character, mostly because Noah Wyle is a fanastic actor. The ER writers put Carter through so much it borders on ridiculous not realistic. And then, just so they could have him back at County (maybe) for the series finale, they left his marriage in limbo.

So, this tumblr is dedicated to correcting that injustice as much as possible. More to come on how I will accomplish that. Also I am willing to talk of other less discussed writing/character issues on ER. Inbox is open!
