“So, Loki… how’s your wife?”

You choke on your drink, doing your best not to spit it down the front of you.  “You’re married?!”

The trickster doesn’t bat an eye, though the intensity within gold flares even higher.  “How’s yours?”

Your eyes go wider than quarters as they swing down toward the opposite end of the table.  “You’re married?!”

“It was an accident!” Gabriel blurts, obviously flustered and not expecting to be outed.  “One I was promised would never be spoken of…”

He pins his counterpart with a glare while the God merely chuckles.  

“My wife and I take a break every few centuries, whereas his is just grateful he prefers to bother someone else.”  

Gabriel snorts, his eyes rolling dramatically, but it’s clearly all for show as he watches you more closely.  Loki’s head tilts slightly as he gauges your reaction.  You say nothing, though you’re contemplating something by the way you keep taking long sips of your drink.

The pair exchange a glance that goes completely unnoticed by you.

“Does that bother you?” The archangel finally inquires, drawing your attention back to them.

“I dunno - I mean no,” you stumble over your words before clearing your throat.  “Why would it?”  

The two of them smile in ways that send butterflies fluttering through your stomach, along with stirring a slight suspicion that they might be up to something.  Then again, when aren’t they?

“Good,” they both tell you before they shift their focus back to their game.

“What is it you two are playing for, anyway?”  You ask.

They look up at each other again, lips curling deviously, and for a moment they are perfect mirror images of one another.

“You’ll find out soon enough, sweetheart,” Loki promises enigmatically.  “Now, who’s bet is it?”

“Yours,” Gabriel reminds.

“Well in that case…” the God pushes his entire pile of chips toward the center of the table.  “I’m all in.”

Hitting the Books ♔ Evie & Sam

              The academically inclined princess would spend hours in the library. Not once within its hallowed halls did she steal or cause mischief. It was one of the few places Evie simply felt happy just being. For too long she stifled her intelligence. Now she almost wallowed in her cleverness. Any princess worth her poisoned apple was confident after all.

Evie may have felt at home amongst the books; she did not look it however. Upon her head was a tiara that glistened in the yellow lights of the library. Clothes that befitted any modern day princess. The books that surrounded the odd girl were even more curious. There were a variety of books about; advanced chemistry, notorious leaders, fashion, and magic. Within her hands was the book, ‘The Social Psychology of Good and Evil’

              The most darling of giggles escaped Evie’s lips. “Have these writers even seen true evil? So stupid...”
