Week 2 in Nashville baby!

Week two in Nashville has been incredible! This town is treating me really well so far! I was back at it starting Monday, and wrote 7 songs in 5 days. I was really lucky to write with numerous writers I haven’t worked with previously. It's pretty rewarding looking back on each week and seeing what I have accomplished. 

  This is kinda what my week looked like from day to day. Who I wrote with and what the song we created is called.

     Monday : Tamara Stewart and Zach Abend - Electric

     Tuesday: (AM) Dave Thomson - Tin Man, (PM) Lizzy McAvoy and Eric Arjes - Turn Around

     Wednesday: (AM) Carolyn Dawn Johnson - Mean Girl (PM) Shane Hines - Anywhere Now 

     Thursday: Brittany Taylor - I Like It

     Friday: Tebey - Steal Your Covers

So to sum it all up it's been an insanely fun and crazy week.

I’ve had a few questions asking about how I song write and what comes first, lyrics, melody, music or story concept.

I personally start most songs with a storyline. So, what I want the song to say and how I want it to pan out. I can then begin building the song from there, around the concept.

Sometimes if I get a simple title or random lyric that I can’t stop thinking about - I’ll usually bring that into a session. Or I’ll even have a melodic hook that I have stuck in my head. 

But my favourite way is to start with a story and create the perfect groove from there.

Some people have also asked what I use to compose music? Piano? Guitar? Mando?

It honestly depends on the mood. My go-to instrument is the guitar but, if it is more of a sad song or even more pop sounding I will approach it with a piano. Even though I just plunk chords on the piano it still gives me enough to work with to get a different feel for the song that I might not get on guitar. 

  I’ve been really lucky to work/write with some incredible musicians, so I have been able to sit back, learn some new techniques, and let them take control of that area!
