How Carol Got Her Groove Back, written by Trogdor19, is posted on 9Lives, AO3 and FF.net.

Summary: How it all started between Daryl & Carol. Untold stories from the winter between Season 2 & 3, including how Carol got her knife & Daryl got his poncho. Friendship, and a slow simmer into the spark of romance. Full cast, but Caryl-centric.

Trogdor19 did such a superb job with this story! It's a joy to read how our author filled in significant gaps and brought to life off-screen moments relating to the progression of Carol and Daryl's relationship and their place as important members of TF. It's also great how, years ago, she managed to nail some aspects of their dynamics that we would only see on screen in S9-10. For example, S10!Carol constantly touching her friendship bracelet as a source of comfort x fic!Carol touching Daryl's crossbow to feel safe. There is honesty and care in the way each character (including TF) is written in this story, and that makes all the difference. The final chapter with a revisited version of the iconic bus scene with explicit romantic tones is the cherry on top we all ever wanted. Dear fellow caryler, if you never read this fic, please go do it right now, for real. You won't regret it. And, if you did, this is your chance to reread it and enjoy it all over again. The opinion section of Sunday’s New York Times is covered with those all-too-familiar red MAGA caps — 42 of them, in seven columns, six rows deep. Evoking the iconic Andy Warhol artwork of Campbell soup cans in 1962, it makes quite a statement. So does the headline. “This Is the New Establishment,” it declares. And the first of several sub-headlines goes further: “MAGA is who we are now.” Really? It’s not who I am, and, dear subscribers, I suspect it’s not who you are either. And you don’t have to be a registered Democrat — I am not one — to feel that way. More than 69 million Americans — those who voted for Kamala Harris — would likely agree that they aren’t ready to join that club, even though Donald Trump got more than 73 million votes.

I’m also not too interested in the post-election blame game. The lead headline on the Sunday Times’s print front page: “Democrats Sift Through Rubble, Seeking Answers” According to various theories, Trump won because Harris was a lousy candidate, or because of the proliferation of dude-bro podcasts, or because incumbents globally are being tossed out of office, or because misogyny and racism are rampant in America, or because of the right-wing media bubble led by Fox News, or because the cost of groceries hasn’t returned to pre-pandemic levels. Carole Cadwalladr, writing in the Guardian, warns that we now exist in a new, scary world of disinformation ruled by tech oligarchs like Elon Musk and Peter Thiel. I could go on, but let’s not. There is much to learn from all of this, and by all means, let’s do so.

With every fight, we can build political power to put more checks on his administration and build the foundation for future wins.” And she has advice for non-politicians: “We all have a part to play. … Whether it’s stepping up to run for office, supporting a neighbor’s campaign, or getting involved in an organization taking action, we all have to continue to make investments in our democracy — including in states that are passed over as ‘too red.�� The political position we’re in is not permanent, and we have the power to make change if we fight for it.”

Hello, darlings!

So it's finals week for me, and late last night I was lovingly bullied into a deal with my friend, who's finals are finished.

In order for me to stay focused on school, I'm not allowed to write until Friday afternoon when my finals are over, and in exchange, she's going to be writing a one-shot each day. If I break down and write, she doesn't have to, but if she doesn't write, then I do get to!

This basically means that, though I've spoiled you lately with pretty frequent updates, I'm on hiatus until Friday (or Saturday depending on how exhausted I am!). It's not a long period of time, but I'm telling y'all for 2 reasons.

Y'all can help my friend keep me accountable. If I start posting works, yell at me to go study XD

This crunches my time a bit for the various challenges I'm participating in, so as usual, my plans for them have changed.

For Winter Whumperland: The one fic with the * icon is almost finished, so I will complete and post it on the weekend. I will also continue with A Christmas Carol, hopefully finishing by/on Christmas. I'm hoping to go ahead and still do the two that pair with Whumptober, but those won't be until after Christmas. The other three days I'm officially deciding to skip.

For Christmas Countdown Playlist: I haven't thought much about how I'm going to fill things yet, and I don't know if I'm allowed to plan or organize ideas, so this is a big question mark. I still plan to complete it, if I can, and will still be watching if anyone else wants to participate! However, you won't see any of its works from me until the weekend, and I probably won't finish them by Christmas Eve as intended.

I will still reply to comments and answer asks, so no need to be shy. Also, wish me luck XD

Iconic Broadway Star Dies, And Yes, Carol Channing Was Part Black

A few things to note: prior to the triumphant "Before the Parade Passes By," Dolly, a ten-year widow, delivers one of the most iconic monologues in musical theatre canon.

Carol Channing (four marriages, two divorces, two widowhood), would not become a widow until after her Dolly turns.

Pearl Bailey (four or five marriages, all but one ending in divorce, one in her death) was not a widow.

Bette Midler has been married to the same spouse since 1984.

Donna Murphy became a widow after a 38-year relationship with her husband, Shawn Elliot, on March 11, 2016. On June 17, 2017, Donna made her debut as the Tuesday night alternate Dolly.

Bernadette Peters became a widow after nine years of marriage in 2005. She debuted as Dolly thirteen years later.

Betty Buckley divorced in 1979.

Carolee Carmello divorced in 2015 from fellow Broadway actor Gregg Edelman, who is currently starring in Water for Elephants at the Imperial Theatre. The same theatre Carolee occupied last season for Bad Cinderella.
