has anyone ever talked about prey drive as an alterhuman but not negatively? prey drive doesnt have to be negative, prey drive can be a respect for the circle of life and an acknowledgement that as a human i am now exempt. you dont know me anymore but once upon the stars we crossed paths and you kept me alive one more day and then returned to the earth where you fed the trees and flowers and plants that will feed us again.

I wish more carnivorous/omnivorous alterhumans & nonhumans talked about the more generalized aspect of meat cravings. I feel like most usually talk about craving very “rigidly-defined” meats if you will (think like a Sirloin or a fillet of salmon), which I do understand as it’s common and far less intimidating to discuss (and also, hell! food is food!), but I feel like theres so much more possibility of these meat discussions. What about craving the sustenance of the blubber of marine life, or the blood and marrow in animal shanks? What about entrails? I do see the spectrum of this conversation either go from very palatable (think, again, grocery store sirloins), to the very end of the scale in terms of widely-accepted palatability (think roadkill) - but what about just the neutral parts of it that may be more uncommon, but are still nonetheless there? Idk idk

I'm serious.

She literally makes my teeth smaller and less sharp every time I come here.

I don't want to lose my canines but my whole family is against me having them and is pressuring me to get them pulled out or grinded fully to "normal" my whole childhood and in adulthood even more*

*(they think that I as grown ass being will pay for getting them to be pulled out even though those are my second teeth and new won't grow)

But she can't even do it right. she fucked up the right canine and a bigger piece(whole 2,5 mm) fell off so now i have "sharp" just left canine(((

A few less obvious ways of dealing with prey drive that may be at least worth giving a try:

1. Whole, fresh tomatoes. They're red, juicy (and spray that juice around if you bite into them) and have a noticeable umami taste, do I have to say more? Maybe that fresh carrots can feel a bit like cracking bones under your teeth, but are safer than actual bones.

2. Running. Especially short distances. And don't forget to bring some treats for yourself to give after, to make the experience complete.

3. Certain types of videogames. While animal simulators are popular among therians, there are other games that could give you something. Stealth games (like Metal Gear series or Dishonored) are great if your kin hunts by stalking your prey. Co-op shooters (Warframe, Destiny, things like that) and other co-op games with mass killing hordes (think Vermintide) are a thing worth considering for pack hunters. And obviously soulslike games can be a good choice. There are probably other game types that could fit more specific needs, these are just examples.

To all my carnivores/omnivores craving something to tear into, I’ve found dried mangoes satisfy that urge very well :} they come in bigger chunks than typical animal jerky and they’re very satisfying to tear apart with your teeth!

TW: Prey Drive Talk

So, if you're a predatory animal of any sort (Therian/Otherkin/Theriomythic/etc.) and you want to feel like your 'type, I recommend "Animal Flow" by Ren. It does come with the downside of possibly triggering negative shifts related to prey drive instincts, so be highly warned. This song probably should only be played if you're wanting to invoke a shift, or if you're in a place that you feel safe enough to let those instincts run free.

I found myself shifty during this song personally as dragonkin/Fenrir copingkin. It just felt more animalistic compared to the normal sapient nature of my kintypes. Tapped into a new part of my alterhumanity a bit more than it normally comes out with. Hopefully other alterhumans with a prey drive can give their thoughts, and hopefully this helps with otherlinkers too.
