This beautiful drawing was made by LiaAqila It was commissioned from me and my friend Martinuslunaris Purple and Carlum are relaxing under a percola while snuggling. Sphinxes are notorious for having servers because they like to be served and revered like nobles. They have 2 servers, Star and Brainstorm. They are bringing some food to their "masters" for pleasing them with sweets. But Star got distracted because he have a secret crush for Purple. He lost his balance while bringing food because he was looking at Purple almost tripping and almost dropping all the food. Luckily there was Brainstorm to not let that happen. Purple and Carlum didn't noticed and continued snuggling and hugging. Star and Brainstorm left the tray in front of them and left, but Star always kept an eye on Purple while leaving hoping to be noticed one day from the beautiful Sphinx.

The War on Drugs: The Horrors of EJK

Since becoming president of the Philippines in June 2016, Rodrigo Duterte has launched a war on drugs that has resulted in the extrajudicial deaths of thousands of alleged drug dealers and users across the country. The Philippine president sees drug dealing and addiction as “major obstacles to the Philippines’ economic and social progress,” says John Gershman, an expert on Philippine politics. The drug war is a cornerstone of Duterte’s domestic policy and represents the extension of policies he’d implemented earlier in his political career as the mayor of the city of Davao. The rise of extrajudicial killings is a cancer slowly infecting the Filipino people with fear and mistrust. Extrajudicial killing is defined as the deliberate killing of a person by dominant political groups and government authorities without the sanctions of any  judicial proceeding or legal process. Pushers, addicts, and suspected users are being executed in the name of the war on drugs but are never given due process or any chance to prove their innocence.It is a violation of human rights to deprive people of their chance to defend themselves in court and undergo due process. Members of the committee of human rights also oppose this law, defending that accused perpetrators should still have the rights to a court of law instead of being killed on the spot.We all want to live in a safe society. We want to able to raise the children in a safer world. I commend the president on his mission to stamp out crime, drugs and violence in the philippines. On the other note, we are all aligned in wanting a better country. However, there has to be a way to do this while letting “Due Process”and the rule of law prevail. I remember the latin legal phrase-`Fiat iustitia ruat carlum` which translate into “let justice be done though the heavens fall”. Fair justice should always prevail, especially when lives are at stake.

What Do We Care About Federalism?

President Rodrigo Duterte had always been vocal about his intentions to change the Philippine constitution into a Federalist government. It was perhaps one of the most common reasons why the people who had voted for him did so, aside from his ruthless standpoints and beliefs, the concept of changing the Philippines into a Federalist country seemed more appealing. Yet after all the violence and failure in our economy over the past two years of his term, are the Filipinos still in favor of this change in the constitution? The answer is mostly no, for a recent survey from Pulse Asia found that 67% of Filipinos in 2018 are against this move to Federalism while only 18% were in favor, and 14% of Filipinos remained undecided. According to Forbes, changing the Philippine Republic into a Federalist nation will only leave more damages into our declining economy, our political fault lines, and the overall already-existing division among all Filipinos. Although Pres. Duterte has already proposed and drafted a plan for Federalism, the Philippine Congress cannot adapt to it so easily. If the Philippines were to shift into a Federalist government, the Philippines will be divided into 18 federated regions, and it is all up to these regional states to mandate and create their own laws as well as to choose their economic development models. This idea of shifting into Federalism was also brought about by the idea that Manila alone has most of the Philippines’ socio-economic power and overall development. Federalism is perhaps the President’s way of compensating for the long-neglected parts of the Philippines away from Manila. Yet the Philippines is not ready for this type of government at all. Federalism is not a guarantee of distribution of resources and power throughout the states; if ever, this will only make the richer regions even richer for they have the advantage of connections and wealth. Aside from this, the Philippine regions and its people will be even more estranged from each other even more. Our country has almost 200 spoken dialects and each province has their own culture and ways of living. Is Federalism going to be for the betterment of the Philippines considering all of this? The answer will nonetheless would still be up for debate among an already divided Philippines.

Philippine Inflation being the highest in all of ASEAN Countries

The Philippines' inflation rate reached a whopping 6.4% this August. Being the highest in the past 9 years and in all of ASEAN Countries. The rise in prices is vast and continuous affecting most sectors in the Philippines such as the household and business sectors but the government sector. Why so? Say, for example, the increase in taxes in Toyota, Mitsubishi, etc., affects the middle-class and as it is government-owned so, in reality, they are earning from this. Whilst, the Volkswagen and other foreign luxury car companies have a decrease in their respective taxes because they have no power with this luxury car companies. This shows that the taxes that were laid within us is beneficial for the government only. Needless to ask, where do our taxes go? To the government. Although it is true that the government needs taxes in order to serve the people and maintain wellness within a country but they don't use it for the people nor the country neither and keep it in their own pockets. Admitting that inflation has many factors to consider domestically and internationally but with this, government abuses the increase of price together with their own assigned percentage of taxes. The government seems to be happy about the inflation and doesn't see the need to help reduce taxes so as to help their people and most importantly the marginalized people. Inflation isn't all bad that’s one thing for sure. But the bottomline is that people are not earning more money as inflation rate rises. This means that they sense the reduction of the value of money as consumers are able to purchase less than before. What the government can do to aid is to revise monetary, salary and trade policies as well as the subsidies for the poor.

  Duterte’s Iron Fist: The Second-coming of Marcos’ Martial Law?

People elected our current president with the belief that his vendetta against crimes would greatly push forth an era of peace and prosperity. The rate of crimes committed in the country are alarming to say the least but everything changed with the appointment of Rodrigo Duterte as president of the republic of the Philippines. With his reputation as a strict and dutiful mayor of Davao, his candidacy faced strong support from the populace. His ascension to presidency had literally given life to his campaign “change is coming”. Criminality has dropped along President Rodrigo Duterte's declaration of war on drugs and great changes have really been witnessed. In 2017, crime had fallen significantly by one-fifth, garnering support and raising the view of the public to the effectiveness of his anti-drug campaign. Despite the increasing body count in Duterte's war on drug campaign, the public opinion surveys report that Filipinos feel relatively safer. But where will all this lead to? In the not so recent incident in Marawi, Duterte had implemented martial law in the entire Mindanao region as a response. The continued implementation has proven to be a hindrance to the people of Marawi in healing the wounds of the past. Concerns from human rights groups have also been raised in regards to whether the continued implementation of martial law in Mindanao has fanned the flames of Duterte's iron-fist approach to crime prevention. Martial law will be the beginning of dictatorship, President Rodrigo Duterte has already shown his admiration to former President Ferdinand Marcos by describing him as “one of the brightest Filipinos” and has stated that the “Philippines better off with dictator like Marcos if drug and corruption persist”. Should the Filipino people not be concerned with the possibility of another era of Martial law coming their way? Is it really the right choice to leave the fate of the Filipino people to a man that could at any point be blinded by his crusade against crime? The weight of the burden left onto Duterte's shoulders are by no means light. He is but a single individual, prone to mistakes and misconceptions. He cannot solve all the problems of our nation on his own. But his last resort being that martial law should be reconsidered has really proven the severity in the situation here in the Philippines. So the question is, what should be done to prevent the need for martial law? I think that he has already proven his resolve to his cause, but his means have already gotten out of hand. The best way for a nation to progress is not through the acts of one man but the contributions of all citizens. Each of us individuals can start a chain reaction of change by first influencing those around us, and then spreading wider. The law's primary function is to provide order to the nation, and as long as the people adhere, the drastic solution of Martial law wouldn't be necessary.

  The increase in Dollar to Peso exchange rate

The Americans and the Filipinos has a strong international relationship for more than a century now. With being occupied and influenced by the USA for 50 years it has strongly solidified the the bond between these two countries. Now with the current president who is focusing more on making the government dependent on its own. For years the United states had influenced some government decision but now the effort is more to decolonize themselves from the influence. With the new daring choices that the government has taken it is taking a toll on the economic system of the Philippines. The economy of Philippines was ranked to be the 2nd most progressive in Asia in the 2000s and mid 2010s. The Philippines is suffering economically with inflation and one of it is the raise in Dollar exchange rate. $1.00 is for 54.10 php this September. It is definitely an indicator that the country’s economic growth is rapidly dropping. However for OFW who earn in USD it is good news because they can bring in more money. International companies may invest more in Philippines because the cost of production is more here because the dollar is strong. It is reported that in upcoming the Dollar is still to sink up to 58.00 php.

"We need to move." It was Avanda who broke the silence between the three of them, standing and clipping Ewan's badge to her belt. "I'd be shocked if they aren't sending reinforcements, and the Renegades will be hot on our trail by now."

Neither Nyar nor Carlum missed the way she distanced herself from the Renegades as she stood, but both of them nodded a quick agreement. Nyar slipped Jace's ring onto the chain that Avanda offered him, taking her own charm off of it first. He clasped it around his neck and tucked the ring under his shirt; the cold metal pressed tightly against his skin. Caelum fidgeted with Dragon's glasses for a moment before finally closing them, tucking one leg into the collar of his shirt.

"Where are we going?" He asked after checking that the glasses were secure as he followed Avanda back down the hallway, "One of Ferret's safe houses?"

The redhead shook her head, her braid shifting slightly. "No. Not for long anyway. He'll be expecting us to go there next. We'll need supplies though. Better to raid the dropboxes and take what we can from there. Once we've convinced them we aren't going to use a safe house, then we can raid one. Better not to stay the night in any though."

Caelum froze. They'd made it to the end of the hall now, the room where Jace had been kept. Eir screams still echoed out of the tablet that had taunted Nyar, and Caelum darted back in to the room. He switched the tablet off quickly, then returned to the hall.

"Are you crazy?" Nyar snapped, "They'll be able to track us with that!"

"I'm counting on it." Caelum admitted, "But they can't track it while it's off. Besides. It has to send a signal to somewhere, right?"

"Keep it powered off until we can get to a more strategic location." Avanda ordered.

There were no survivors left behind to be taken by the Reneges, and they were careful to stay silent once more as they climbed into the car.

Avanda sat in the passenger seat, guiding Caelum to six of Ferret's dropboxes. Nyar slept in between stops in the back seat, only waking to help Avanda carry back the supplies. They spilt them evenly between the three of them, stuffing weapons, cash, disguises, and in Avanda's case: fake ID's, into their bags.

"We need a new car." She said after the last box.

"And somewhere to sleep." Caelum added.

They picked a high end hotel since their pursuers would likely be expecting them to hole up in a rundown motel, and booked a small room for two on the second floor under a fake name that Nyar chose. They paid in cash, and Caelum swarmed up the side of the building under the cover of darkness to the window, so that if anyone asked; no one would be able to say that yes, three people matching their descriptions were there.

As soon as they could find a way to disable or confuse the tablet's gps, they would turn it back on and turn it into a weapon. For now however; they took turns resting.

Avanda lay on her side, tracing a fingernail gently over Ewan's badge, studying each change in the texture as though it were a part of him.

Nyar spun Jace's ring gently on his finger, toying with it and pulling against the chain so hard that it bit into his skin.

Caelum carefully cleaned Dragin's lenses with a cloth he'd asked Nyar to grab from the lobby, making sure there were no marks left on them.

All three of them were silent; vowing that they would give their lives to save their lover. All three of them had made am agreement before escaping the Renegade base:

"If any of the three of us get separated; we'll all fight on. No matter what, those three will all make it home."

And that was all that mattered anymore.

Jace on a walk to meet Nyar at a coffeeshop after eir classes, they have plans to head to katzins after. Ey never show. A needle plunged into eir neck, dropping em like a stone before even a breath can be hitched in surprise.

Dragon while they're on their way to the store. A quick walk to the little corner market to pick up some last minute things for dinner. They never make it. Dropping back into armored arms with a small grunt.

Ewan as he leaves the station, getting off duty a little early. A phone held to his ear and Avanda on the other line. The only thing she hears is the phone drop, nothing answering her concern but staticked silence.

No scuffles. No struggle.

There and suddenly gone.
