Summary: A glimpse into Geppetto and Carina Rossi (Lampwick’s mother)’s wedding day. Trigger Warnings: wedding stress, gods not understanding humans, swearing, etc. LMK If I should add to the list.

When you think about it, humans are strange creatures—their bodies are frail, easily failable, yet mothers can lift carriages off of their trapped children with strength they usually don’t have at the same time.

They have strange ideas, strange behaviors, strange hang ups about things other beings couldn’t care less about—and they care so strongly. They can fall in and out of love, have marriages that barely last a month: or they’ll love the same person forever, even if that person has long since passed or long since stopped loving them.

It was strange. Laughable, even, to beings like the gods who had outlived countless humans.

Humans had many odd behaviors that couldn’t be explained. Many failings, many advantages. Loyalties that couldn’t be divided and loyalties that could be bought or traded for something as amusingly small as riches.

But of all things that Hera would never understand about humans, there was one thing that would never fail to baffle the queen of marriage—and that was how, without fail, nerves were always at an all time high on their wedding day. Even when the humans truly had nothing to worry about.

“I can’t button up your dress if you refuse to stay still, Mia cara figlia.” The mother of the bride-to-be, one Bria Rossi, scolded—tugging at the back of her pacing daughter’s dress.

The dress was an odd choice for a wedding. It was made of green felt, had tattered sleeves, and had scraps of fabric from a more traditional white lace-y dress sewn at the bottom a couple of inches above the hem, over the sleeves, and on the front: making it look like the dress of a princess on one of the old books Bria used to read her girls when were they little and too poor to afford any of the more…exquisite tales any of their more well-off friends had.

It looked wonderful on Carina, even if Bria would have preferred a more traditional dress for her youngest daughter.

She had three green felt bows braided carefully into her long dark brown, wavy hair—which she had inherited from Bria herself—which was down for once. In place of a veil, she had a flower crown made of daisies that her old cheer friends had crafted for her as an ‘early’ wedding gift (along with a matched bouquet).

Other accessories she’d chosen to wear were the eight ball earrings that her eldest, Lampwick, had bought her with his allowance one year and a pink, red, and silver necklace that her youngest, Bella, had somehow acquired for her years prior. With them, she wore green heels with white silverish rhinestones leaves that Gia (Bria’s oldest and Carina’s sister) had helped her pick out.

Carina looked beautiful. Perfect, even.

And if you were to ask Hera, she’d even say that Carina looked even more wonderful than Bria did or her grandmother, Sofia, did on their wedding days.

Though Hera may be a little biased, given how Carina was currently her favorite human alive.

“I can’t help that I’m nervous, mama!”

“No, but you can control how you handle your nerves. Which you need to do if you don’t want to be late to your own wedding—”

A nervous yelp escaped the younger brunette at that thought. “Don’t say that, mama! You’ll jinx it!”

Geppetto, for his part, was just as nervous as his wife was as he too got ready for the second biggest day of his life.

“Oh my. Oh me.” The white haired man muttered, fiddling with his golden hammer cufflinks that kept slipping out of his ridiculously sweaty hands (He always did sweat when he was nervous). “Uh oh!”

He hoped he wouldn’t look as awful as he currently looked in the mirror when he stood at the altar waiting for his lovely bride-to-be—he looked soaked to the bone, his face was flushed, and his hair was a stringy mess.

His white undershirt was almost see-through with how much he was sweating. Maybe he should have gone with the golden undershirt instead of the white.

It didn’t matter how ‘dashing’ the toymaker and carpenter looked usually (according to Carina, anyway), a see through-shirt would look awful with the red and black suit and the red lacy bowtie Pinocchio had helped him pick out. Not even the brooch he’d made to resemble Pinocchio and the black (with a golden leafed vine pattern) shoes he’d picked just for the occasion could save it. The man was sure of it.

“Quit yer sweatin’. You look fine.” Jiminy huffed, landing on his shoulder.

“Are you sure, Jiminy?”

“Yes I’m sure. Trust me, you’re gonna knock Carina right off her feet.”

“My goodness, I hope not.”

The cricket sighed. “It’s just an expression—”

“Careful—CAREFUL!” Gia Rossi ordered as she directed the caterers who were carrying the cake—a four layer devil’s food cake with green and blue icing and a homemade cake topper of a groom, a bride, and three smaller figures dancing on top. Usually, Gia wouldn’t speak so sternly to people they hired to work an event but the two who were carrying the cake weren’t paying much attention and the cake was close to collaspying.

So being stern it was.

Even if it made her want to cringe.

Because if they weren’t careful and the cake fell—well, they were in a floorless tent in the middle of a forest. If the cake fell, there would be absolutely no saving it and they certainly wouldn’t have time to get another one on such short notice: not when they were in the middle of the forest with no stores nearby.

(It didn’t help her stress that they likely wouldn’t be able to afford a new wedding cake even if there were stores nearby).

“Sorry miss!”

“Yes Miss Rossi!”

The tent was white. The streamers and party favors (aside from the daisies and red roses, of course) were green and blue: the table cloths were red and the folded chairs (and tables) were all white, and the guests were all dressed in varying shades of green, red, black, blue, and yellow—which made for quite the sight.

Not that there were many guests.

Just her and Carina’s mother and grandparents, Carina’s two kids—Lampwick and Bella—and Geppetto’s living son: Pinocchio, Carina’s old cheerleading friends from school, a few people from the village, Jiminy Cricket (what an odd fellow), Lampwick’s two friends—Pete and Alexander—and their parents, and the two remaining siblings of Geppetto’s first wife, Carla, who he was friends with.

Wait. Geppetto’s first wife.

Shit.

GIA FORGOT TO PUT A PICTURE OF CARLA AND GUSTAVO (Geppetto’s dead wife and son) AND HER FATHER IN THE FRONT PEW!

“BLUE! WHERE ARE THE PHOTOS?!”

Blue did not know where Carla and Gustavo’s photos were, nor did she know where the photo of Gia and Carina's father was. She hadn't seen them all day.

She had more pressing matters to handle: like figuring out how to use the camera Geppetto had given her before it was time to start taking the wedding photos.

FLASH!

The blonde fairy dropped the camera as the flash went off. “Oh blast it.”

“Do I really have to wear such an ugly dress?” Bella whined, brushing her hands down her puffy, lacey grass-green dress down. She was very unimpressed with the lacey flowers that were protruding from the dress.

“It’s not ugly and yes, because mom picked it out for ye.Just suck it up, it’ll make her happy and you’ll be able to take it off when the weddin’s over.” Lampwick retorted as he readjusted his bowtie, not even looking at her. He was wearing a matching suit with a greenish-yellow undershirt and dark green shoes (which matched his bowtie). “Do you have the flower basket?”

“Yes.” Came the sulky reply, which the redhead ignored: because he was thirteen and much too mature to be seen arguing with a six year old by his friends or their parents (especially Alexander’s adoptive parents, who never really liked Lampwick to begin with), thank you very much.

“Pinocchio, do you have the rings?”

Pinocchio was wearing a red and black suit with a yellow undershirt, a blue bowtie, and yellow and blue shoes: his hair, like Lampwick’s, had been slicked back with hair gel per his grandmother’s request. “Yes! They’re right here!”

“Close the box before you lose them, buddy—”

“Will you stop being so bossy?”

“I’m not bein’ bossy, I’m bein’ in charge, Bella. There’s a difference—”

“It sounds the same to me.”

“We ain’t havin’ this argument now!”

“Then we’ll have it later—”

“Guys can’t we all just get along—”

“NO!”

Hera had seen the rings and she greatly approved of them.

Geppetto’s was black with a silver engraving that read ‘Forever Mine’ and the one he had picked out for Carina was silver with a black engraving that read ‘Forever’ with a little lightning bolt. Both rings were very beautiful and the carpenter had chosen them well.

Carina couldn’t have picked a better man.

This one was far better than her last two romantic partners, Frankie Santoro-Ruffini and Apollo, that was for sure—at least he would be putting a ring on her finger and taking care of her for the rest of her mortal life and even afterlife.

It was the least the brunette deserved, after all.

Jiminy Cricket was the best man while Lampwick and a few of Geppetto’s friends had been chosen as groomsmen.

Gia was the maid of honor and Carina’s old cheerleading friends had been chosen as the bridesmaids (all of them had their old cheerleading bows from Merlin Academy braided in their hair, as a surprise for Carina).

Bella was the flower girl.

Pinocchio was the ring barrier.

An old friend of Bria’s was officiating.

Blue was the wedding photographer—and Hera? Well, she was the guest of honor. Invited personally by Carina herself. Which meant that absolutely nothing was going to go wrong with this wedding. Not if Hera could help it.

“I'll steal your heart away in time,

It's only fair 'cause you have mine…”

Geppetto stood at the altar with the wedding party as the music started playing: a nervous but goofy smile on his face as he spotted Carina.

She looked stunning and so did her mother, who was walking her down the aisle but Carina was the one who looked like an angel at the moment.

“Oh, Carina,

Now don't make me wait too long…”

Carina’s face lit up as she heard the song Geppetto had picked out for this moment. It was her favorite song. It was their song. The one that had played on their very first date: it was perfect for their wedding day.

Nothing else would have been as fitting.

Something her groom-to-be knew.

He was perfect.

He looked perfect.

She looked perfect. Their children—their children—looked perfect.

Everything was perfect. Just as Hera knew it would be.

And Carina hadn’t even seen the cake topper yet.

The rest of the night was filled with dancing, laughter, and fun, meaningless small talk between the new Collodi-Rossi family and their guests.

Carina loved the rings. Loved the cake topper. And loved the songs—she had known it was a good idea to leave the music to Geppetto. She had known it.

Geppetto danced with Carina, then with Bella.

Carina danced with Bella and then the boys and then her mother and sister.

And all of it was on video. Something Carina nor Geppetto would have believed possible before they were brought to the future—before Auradon’s creation. But it was possible and Lampwick was back home, safe in Carina’s arms, to see it.

The night was the first of many perfect nights.

Just like every March 19th would be for the rest of her and Geppetto's lives.

Ti accoglie quando la prendi in braccio, ti stringe le gambe attorno ai fianchi, allentando la presa soltanto quando la sbatti con veemenza sul tavolo ancora ricoperto di pile di documenti che si sparpagliano sul pavimento, laciando spazio a lei.

Vi scatenate talmente tanto che scivolate giù dal tavolo e finite a terra ma questo non vi ferma.

Lei ti guarda come a dire: "perché?!"

Ma il motivo è presto spiegato.

Ti alzi in piedi di fronte alla tua donna e mentre lei sta ancora sdraiata per terra con la camicia stracciata e la gonnellina sgualcita, lasci uscire finalmente tutta la tua sborra.

Esce libera a a getti lunghi e molteplici che ricadono su di lei come stelle filanti di carnevale, la adornano come merita.

Sembra la scultura di una dea della grecia antica, meravigliosa investita da fiotti di liquido bianco che non hanno altro significato se non quello dell'incondizionata devozione.

Lampwick's Mama , Carina was Bridget's Best Friend instead of Ella in me and @hannahhook7744's Rise of Red rewrite so here's some info on her as well as pictures and fanart ! Teenage Carina as a Merlin academy cheerleader:

HC For Lampwick's Mama , Carina while she was at Merlin academy : Her Boyfriend left her at castlecoming after finding out she was pregnant. She is Bridget's only friend. She is more popular than Bridget.

The cheersqaud didn't let her quit after she got pregnant with Lampwick.

Which was fortunate since she wasn't allowed to walk at graduation…. (She still Graduated and got her Diploma though ! )

she's still mad she didn't get to walk when she was a good student with good grades (honors even) and several extracurriculars.

She also found out afterwards they tried to get her in the year book as little as possible when her baby bump got more prominent (not sure whether Lampwick was born after graduation or not but either way she didn't get to walk because they knew people would know she was pregnant/had been)

Were The Other Cheerleaders supportive of Carina or Mean to her ?:

There was probably a person or two who was mean but they were all mostly supportive. Hence them not allowing her to quit the cheersqaud even though Carina wasn't able to participate anymore.

She belonged there, they said.

Yeah Carina was the most worried about how her friends would end up reacting. Turns out she hadn't needed to.

It was the school and the parents she needed to worry about.

........ Info as an Adult :

Carina Rossi - Lampwick and Bella's mom. Married to Geppetto and stepmom goals for Pinocchio. Used to work at a bar (and "after hours" as well) and so wasn't always really able to look after her son. Got a new job when he went missing. Doing a lot better now.

Lampwick's Full Backstory : Lampwick was the son of Carina and some deadbeat dickhead who took advantage of how hard it was to find people at the time and ran off. Carina did her best but she worked at a bar and as a “lady of the night” and so didn’t always have time for him. So he got into trouble - fights, smoking, breaking things - all sorts of trouble. He didn’t enjoy school much and got in trouble there too. One day though, it got worse. He and his friend Alexander heard of a place called pleasure island where they could go and do whatever they wanted. This is such a well-thought-out and compelling backstory for Carina and Lampwick! I love how much depth and realism you’ve given Carina’s experiences, especially with the struggles she faced as a teen mom at Merlin Academy.

The details about the school trying to erase her presence, despite her academic and extracurricular success, are heartbreaking but, unfortunately, very believable. It makes her anger at not being able to walk at graduation so understandable she earned that moment, and they robbed her of it.

The cheer squad’s support was such a nice touch, though! It’s great that she had a strong support system from her peers, even if the adults and the school failed her. The idea that they wouldn’t let her quit because she belonged there? That’s beautiful.

As for her adulthood, I really appreciate that Carina’s story doesn’t just stop at the hardships. She had a rough start, but she grew, found stability, and became an amazing stepmom to Pinocchio. It adds another layer to Lampwick’s story too, showing how he fell into trouble but ultimately got a second chance, just like she did.

Honestly, this whole concept makes Carina such a strong, complex, and inspiring character. She deserves all the love!
