um um um sirius was sent to live there because something something politics? his dads a politician and sirius is too controversial so he's sent to this small town (new girl grr). remus' family owns a bakery, and ofc in the non-magical au he has AIDS. james is the son of the mayor, he's also the sports kid. peter lives with his older sister and mother because his dad is out of town usually and theyre florists? lily would frequent it and pickpocket because she's like that. marlene is a farm girl. also, her father's a pastor. mary's town weird kid that had the most bizarre glow up. severus is the goth kid. (obviously). evan is the gay kid. (obviously). pandora is haunted (mentally ill). ummm. oh !! emmeline & dorcas (& a few other girls. wilkes? idk i wnna keep the des seperate) as the teen mean girls who always hangout at the mall. cardoc & sturgis are also resident jock. amycus & alecto had a house and when they moved out everyone said it was haunted (they used to sneak back and make weird sounds to keep 'the spirits' out). rita knows the town gossip and has a magazine, obviously. idk!!!!!!!!!

The empty space next to him is still warm from where Cardoc had been persuaded off the sofa by James, dressed as a haphazard Indian Jones, in a tan button down half tucked into his pants and a fedora sitting crookedly on his head, to play a round of apple bobbing.

James, five drinks in, had slurred his way through declaring Cardoc absolutely had to have a go at the bobbing, as, from what he’s heard —he had stopped here to give Remus a drunken, lopsided wink— Cardoc is quite good with his mouth.

Remus had groaned at this, sinking further into the sofa, but Cardoc only chuckled and squeezed Remus' knee once before standing up and following James to the other side of the room. Remus watched them go, Cardoc reaching out to steady James as he bumped into various pieces of furniture, blind as a bat as he refused to wear his glasses in costume.

For months, from cold January when Benjy died to thawing April when Caradoc fell, she begged me. Our sex had grown rougher, the bruises on her pale skin more likely to come from my hands, my belt or my switch than from any Death Eater.

“Have you been here at all this term?” Sirius asks, pouring some milk into his tea.

“Once,” Remus says, biting the inside of his cheek. “With Cardoc.”

Sirius’ eyes flicker up at that, unreadable as they meet Remus’ and then he looks away, off to the side.

“He didn’t care much for it though,” Remus adds because for some reason it seems important.

It works. Sirius turns back to him, tide and moon.

“His loss,” Sirius says, gaze unwavering.

Remus’ heart is a snare drum in his chest.

He brings his mug up to his lips. “Yeah,” he susurrates, amphoric against the ceramic rim of his cup, and then he swallows down his tea and looks away.

But that’s the problem, isn’t it? A bat of the eye and he’s completely done for. Because, a long time ago now, Sirius reached in, between the brittle bones of his ribcage, and squeezed, leaving behind an indentation on Remus’ heart, a sunken, soft spot like that on overripe fruit that spreads fast and irrevocably until all there’s left is mush. Mush where a heart should be. And the fact is, Remus doesn’t know how to say no, doesn’t know if he’s capable. Because while being wrapped around Sirius’ finger gives Sirius complete power to devastate him, it’s also exciting, consuming, electricity at touch, it’s the wind in your hair and the vertiginous drops to a valley below, gooseflesh on skin, a buzzing in your bones, and a frisson down your spine.

And so when Sirius bends down to whisper, “Let’s go,” in his ear, the smell of amber and oud wood at his shoulder, Remus’ fate is already sealed.

The bite of the parky night air and the cold brick wall of the Hog’s Head exterior is a welcomed comfort as he leans against the brickwork and rummages around his jacket pocket for his box of cigarettes. The sound of his fumbling echoes against the walls of the alleyway, making his small movements more pronounced, rising and meeting the tension and his need for tobacco between his teeth.

There’s flames, licking their way up his chest, and he aches to put them out in the only way he knows how— with more fire. More, more, more. Until he’s suffocating on it, until it turns him numb.

Oliver had been a gift from Frank’s parents first year when his homesickness just wouldn’t fade and he needed something to cling to. She was soothing, lazy at her best, and she tended to hog the beds in their dorm room indiscriminately. He loved that cat more than his spot on the Quidditch team, and that was saying a lot. 

He also had no idea where she’d wandered off to. 

He’d been systematically scouring the halls for the better part of an hour, calling her name and dodging reckless fourth years. Stupid cat. The one time she actually gets up and she decides to wander off to Merlin know where. A small frown pulling at the corners of his lips, Frank was seriously considering just giving up and waiting for Oliver to come back to him - no matter how anxious he knew that would make him. He had a class to get to in an hour and plants to tend to before then, cat hunting really wasn’t in the cards. 

Just as he was about to return to the Gryffindor common room, defeated and worried, he caught a glimpse of a familiar face. One that could definitely help him with his cat problem. Cardoc had his own cat, after all, he was bound to know something. Right? If nothing else, it’d be easier to search every inch of the castle with a bit of help. 

“Hey, Cardoc. I know you’re busy and that this is probably a trivial matter but I’m kind of panicking and I need your help.” The words came out in a rush, Frank’s face the picture of concern. Stupid cat.
