I finished watching the new pope yesterday and I will give my honest and unsolicited opinion on it
First temp? Didn't give a fuck about Lenny and only cared about the side characters
Now the second temp.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love it for sure in my top 5
I loved the shift the show had and the way we get more of the background characters and their relationships, their feelings, ambitions and other things. Honestly the only thing i didn't like much was the "main plot" which is that whole "terrorism/oh no we ain't got no money thing, it did not bother me much at some point it is actually really good just not my favorite plot ever but in general I loved it.

Alec Baldwin’s high-profile trial is now under way in a courthouse in Santa Fe – almost three years after cinematographer Halyna Hutchin was killed in a tragic shooting while filming Western movie Rust.
During a rehearsal of a shooting scene in 2021, a prop gun Baldwin was holding went off, striking and killing Hutchins and injuring director Joel Souza.
Baldwin is charged with involuntary manslaughter and faces 18 months in prison.
Just before court began Thursday, Attorney Jason Bowles confirmed that the film’s armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed will testify on Friday. Gutierrez-Reed has already been convicted of involuntary manslaughter and sentenced to 18 months in prison.
On Wednesday, jurors heard opening statements with prosecutors saying that the Hollywood star skipped safety checks and recklessly handled a revolver prior to the fatal incident.
Baldwin “played make believe with a real gun and violated the cardinal rules of firearm safety,” special prosecutor Erlinda Ocampo Johnson said.
But defense attorney Alex Spiro said “these cardinal rules, they’re not cardinal rules on a movie set.”
As the first witnesses took the stand, prosecutors played the fraught 911 call in the aftermath of the shooting and graphic bodycam capturing the frantic efforts of first responders to save Hutchins. In the courtroom, Baldwin looked at the screen somberly as the video played.

Walking through the picturesque streets of Cardinal Hill, you find Ocean James, the 23 year old nursery worker at The Green Thumb Nursery originally from Ojai, California. Living alongside them in such a small town, you know that they're caring and self-critical, but what you might not know is that they are a human, and that they’re hiding something... Froy Gutierrez, bisexual, cismale, he/him
trigger warning: emotional abuse
Name: Ocean Ezekiel James Age: 23 years old Birthday: September 5 Zodiac sign: Virgo Witch or human:  human Hometown: Ojai, California Occupation: nursery worker at The Green Thumb Nursery Sexuality: bisexual Family: Parents Skye and River, older siblings Sunshine, Forest, Rain, and Coral
Ocean James's life was happy until it wasn't. The youngest of five children, he was born into commune life. His parents were lifelong members of The Harmony Collective in Ojai, a community of likeminded individuals who wanted a simpler, safer life - a better life. While they had some modern amenities like electricity and indoor plumbing and technology that served their purposes on the commune, life there was more sheltered than the outside world. Only a select few homes had TVs, and even then it was mainly to keep appraised of news from the rest of the world. Ocean never even watched a movie until he spent the night at a friend's house. While he was homeschooled on the commune, he took swimming lessons at a local pool and made friends there, and his first movie was The Aristocats (it's still one of his favorites). Despite his unorthodox upbringing, Ocean was a well-adjusted kid, always full of light and able to make friends with anyone. He was loved on the commune, and he thought life would always be happy.
Life on the commune was simple and creatively fulfilling. Time was spent farming and with artistic pursuits, and the members of the collective sold their goods at markets in and around Ojai. They were well-known and respected for the quality of their produce and other goods, which is how they more or less avoided accusations that they were a cult. The people of Ojai grew protective of The Harmony Collective, which the commune appreciated. Ocean wasn't as adept at farm life as some of his siblings, but he was a gifted artist, most especially pottery; most of his works went quickly at the markets. But as he grew older, Ocean began to feel inadequate despite nearly everyone in his life working hard to help him see his worth. It started when Forest began to exhibit his powers. Ocean's mother Skye and oldest sister Sunshine were witches, so it was no great surprise when Forest proved to be one as well. And at first, Ocean was happy for his brother, and he was happy for Rain and Coral as well when they first showed signs of their powers. Many members of the commune were witches, which definitely made life there easier, and with such a strong lineage, everyone expected Ocean to be a witch as well. This put a tremendous amount of pressure on Ocean even though that wasn't the intent, and that was when he began to crack because it seemed like Ocean took after his human father. Puberty came and went, and by the time Ocean was well into his teenage years, hope had dwindled that he'd inherit his mother's magical prowess like his siblings had. It seemed Ocean was well and truly human. But no one felt that Ocean was less because of this, or at least no one except Ocean himself.
As his confidence began to fade and happiness began to ebb away, Ocean felt like he lost at sea, which felt like a fitting metaphor for someone with a name like his. In an effort to rebuild Ocean's self-worth, his parents encouraged him to meet people outside the commune, other humans who could show him that he still had value. And it seemed like a good idea as Ocean had begun to feel separate from his witch mother and siblings (though more bonded to his human father as a result). Ocean got a job teaching swimming and lifeguarding at the same pool where he'd first discovered his love of water, and he met many friends there. One of them was Aaron, and while at first he had seemed like a good person, which had drawn Ocean to him immediately, he would turn out to be anything but. Their friendship quickly turned to romance, and it wasn't long before the pair was a couple, which was when Aaron showed his true colors. It started slowly, but more and more Aaron began to exert control over Ocean while making him feel smaller and smaller everyday. It was like Aaron had sensed he was broken and had sought to break him down even more in his effort to control him, and at first it had worked; for a long time, it had worked.
Ocean's family hated Aaron, as did members of the commune, and it wasn't long before he was banned from being on the property. They hated the way Aaron belittled Ocean, the way he made him feel like nothing. When he was banned, Aaron had tried to force Ocean to cut ties with the commune now that he was a legal adult, but that was one area where Ocean didn't let Aaron have the final say in things, a fact which enraged the man. From the time he was 17 until age 21, Ocean let Aaron destroy him day after day, but finally Ocean had had enough. Aaron wasn't happy, and his anger had scared Ocean, but he'd summoned the last vestiges of his strength and confidence to banish the man from his life.
But what kind of life was it? Ocean wasn't the same person anymore, and in fact he didn't know who he was anymore. And the commune had come to hold such somber memories too because it was the place where he'd begun to unravel. Forest had moved to Cardinal Hill, Washington, and eventually he asked Ocean to come live with him for awhile as he rebuilt himself. It wasn't a hard choice for Ocean to agree. While on the surface, Ocean moved in with his brother to start anew and discover who he was again, there was another more sinister purpose to his decision, a purpose he didn't plan on telling anyone.
Wanted connections:
Sisters: Ocean is the youngest of five children, all of them bearing nature-themed names. There's his sister Sunshine, then his brother Forest, and then sisters Rain and Coral before finally Ocean. While Ocean and Forest are already in Cardinal Hill, it would be cool if some/all of the sisters join them. I've got an FC idea, so hit me up if you're interested. The FC and the names are negotiable though as long as A) the FC is of hispanic descent and B) the name is nature-themed
Friends: Ocean...well, he just really could use some friends. He's new in town and painfully shy, but he's sweet and has a good heart. He's just hard to get to know

Yesterday we lost a giant. Gustavo Gutierrez, the father of Liberation Theology, passed away. The BBC story briefly shares who this theologian was and how he impacted Christian theology.
The Jesuit magazine, America, offered this reflection on his enduring legacy.
In a world that was coming to understand the structural underpinnings of poverty and violence, and in a church only beginning to confront the challenges of modernity, Father Gutiérrez was a prophet who saw clearly how the Christian proclamation of salvation involved not merely the afterlife but included human liberation in this life as well.
His teaching on liberation theology drew criticism from many especially among conservative circles who saw his prophetic emphasis on the poor and his development of the principle of the Preferential Option for the Poor as a scandal. His contribution was to articulate a theology that was attentive to the social reality and whose salvific message incorporated the themes of liberation and social justice. As the article shares about Gutierrez’s contribution:
Liberation theology is really a theology of salvation, with profound implications for how Christians live, believe, pray and act today. To reflect on Jesus as a liberator, to consider sin in its social and structural dimensions, to ponder the implications of the church’s mission to proclaim truly good news to the poor—these are the fruits of a liberation theology.
Under the pontificate of Pope John Paul II his work was under scrutiny but as I mentioned in the following post, he would ultimately be vindicated by non other than Cardinal Ratzinger, the future Pope Benedict XVI.
Gutierrez was a member of the Dominican order and like so many great members of his community (Albert, Aquinas, Vitoria, Las Casas, etc.) we have the great fortune of having the contribution of his written wisdom. Perhaps now he can intercede for us and the Catholic Church from up above where he can now guide us in promoting a theology and ecclesiology based on liberation and the preferencial option for the poor.

The amazing theological contributions of Gustavo Gutierrez reminds me of the famous quote attributed to Sir Isaac Newton and John of Salisbury.
"If I have seen further than others, it is by standing upon the shoulders of giants."

Ocean James, our Froy Gutierrez, is looking for their siblings!
They’re a witch, and are said to look like anyone of hispanic descent. You do have to contact Christian @deepbluexocean before applying!
Ocean is the youngest of five siblings, and he's the only human in the bunch.  His entire family has nature-themed names, and his older siblings are Sunshine, Forest, Rain, and Coral.  I especially would like someone to apply as Forest because Ocean lives with him in Cardinal Hill, but I'd be happy with any. I've got no real restrictions on faceclaims expect that they be of Hispanic descent like Froy is. Also the names are negotiable as long as they're nature-related.
04 connections available.

Alec Baldwin Accused of Violating Gun Safety Rules in Rust Shooting Trial
Santa Fe, New Mexico – Alec Baldwin faces serious allegations in his involuntary manslaughter trial, as prosecutors accuse him of violating crucial gun safety rules on the set of the Western film Rust. The trial, which commenced on Wednesday, centers on the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins in October 2021.
Tumblr media
Special prosecutor Erlinda Johnson, in her opening statement, alleged that Baldwin “played make believe with a real gun” and breached cardinal firearm safety rules. She contended that the actor’s actions were reckless and endangered others on set.
In contrast, Baldwin’s defense team argued that Hutchins' death, though tragic, resulted from Baldwin’s role as an actor, not from any criminal conduct. Baldwin has pleaded not guilty and maintains that he did not pull the gun’s trigger. His legal team emphasized that the crucial issue is how the live round ended up in the gun.
The trial’s first day included distressing footage of medics attempting to save Hutchins, described as a “vibrant 42-year-old rising star,” and treating director Joel Souza, who was also injured. Additional clips showed Baldwin on set before and after the incident.
Baldwin, charged under his full name, Alexander Rae Baldwin, could face up to 18 months in prison if convicted. He was supported in court by his wife, Hilaria Baldwin, his brother, actor Stephen Baldwin, and other friends and family members.
Johnson highlighted that Baldwin requested “the biggest gun available” for the film and argued that his actions on set were reckless. “The evidence will show that someone who played make believe with a real gun and violated the cardinal rules of firearm safety is the defendant,” she stated.
Prosecutors will present evidence suggesting Baldwin deviated from standard firearm safety practices. Expert testimonies will address whether the weapon could have fired without pulling the trigger, a point prosecutors claim is not possible.
Baldwin’s lawyer, Alex Spiro, argued that the actor followed typical procedures for handling prop guns on set. He stated, “Safety has to occur before a gun is placed in an actor's hand.” Spiro asserted that Baldwin was unaware of the live round and followed instructions to point the gun at Hutchins, who was positioned behind the camera.
Spiro also shifted responsibility to the film’s armorer, Hannah Gutierrez, convicted of involuntary manslaughter earlier this year, and assistant director David Halls, who pleaded no contest to negligent use of a deadly weapon in 2023. Baldwin was told the gun was “cold,” meaning it was safe to use.
Santa Fe County Sheriff’s officers testified about the chaotic scene on set, describing “a bunch of people running everywhere” as the incident unfolded.

Baldwin Faces Manslaughter
LOS ANGELES (OnlineColumnist.dom), Jan. 20, 2023.--New Mexico authorities decided yesterday to charge 64-year-old Kid Rock star Alec Baldwin with involuntary manslaughter for the Oct. 26, 2021 shooting death on the set of “Rust” of 42-uyear-old cinematographer Halnya Hutchins.  PR expert Erick Schiffer said his indictment was a “bad day for Baldwin’s brand” when Santa Fe County District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies and special prosecutor Andrea Reed announced their long-awaited decision to pursue charges.  “He’s going to face justice for what should never have happened.and this is an incident that will cause him to be in the short-term a future pariah in Hollywood,” said Schiffer.  Baldwin’s problem is that he granted so many interviews after the fatal shooting that he’s left a record that’s going to haunt his defense attorney to make any rational argument when Baldwin already told the world what happened.
Baldwin’s attorney Luke Nikas called New Mexico’s decision to charge him with manslaughter a “terrible miscarriage of justice and that Baldwin had “no reason to believe there was a live bullet ion the gun—or anywhere on the movie set,” repeating the same flawed logic that practically guarantees conviction.  Miscarriages of Justice happen after faulty verdicts, not before the case is heard by a jury.  But with Baldwin telling ABC’s George Stephanopoulos that he didn’t pull the trigger, it’s made convincing a jury all the more difficult.  What’s his attorney going to say, that he didn’t realize he actually pulled the trigger or that he only pulled back the hammer.  Or that whatever happened that fateful day on the Rust set, he was told the gun was “cold,” no live ammo in the chamber?  Most juries would have their heads spinning with all the past smoking blowing by Baldwin in national TV.
Even crisis communication or damage control expert Schiffer said Baldwin’s claim that he didn’t pull the trigger a “big lie,” that “was not only horrifyingly dumb but defies gun physics,” saying Baldwin would have a hard time selling his story to the jury.  Despite all the obstacles, Schiffer still thinks Baldwin can eventually salvage at least some of his career because the public has a short memory.  “He will enter a rarely disclosed black list for the time being until this gets resolved,” Schiffer said, not sure whether a guilty verdict in New Mexico would make things worse.  Crisis expert Evan Nierman, CEO of Global Crisis PR Firm Red Banyan and author of “Crisis Averted,” said the “charges alone do not signal an immediate end to his career.”  Conviction on manslaughter charges would certainly set things back, requiring more acts of contrition on Baldwin’s part to get beyond the crisis.
Crisis and damage control are not rocket science but Baldwin, so far, has not done enough to put himself in the public’s good graces.  Baldwin made the cardinal mistake thinking he could get ahead of the crisis by granting high profile TV interviews, like the one with Stephanopoulos.  Unlike most defense attorneys, crisis experts sometimes think exculpatory explanations can convince the public that Baldwin did nothing wrong.  But instead to trying the case in the court of public opinion, Baldwin made his legal defense far more complicated.  Unfortunately for Baldwin and the set’s armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who certified the gun safe, New Mexico’s involuntary manslaughter charge doesn’t require intent to commit bodily harm.  Involuntary manslaughter only involves convincing a jury that Baldwin and Gutierrez-Reed engaged in negligence on the set.
Balwin’s attempt to excuse his culpability has made things much worse for the multimillionaire Kid Rock actor, who really doesn’t have to work another day in his life.  But, like most people with active careers, they want to go out on their terms, not blackballed by the industry.  Schiffer thinks Baldwin “hurt himself in unimaginable ways especially with the public, who has, for some time, wondered how he ever allowed this to happen, and who wondered why any adult would think it would be okay to aim a gun at anyone,” said Schiffer.  Gun safety laws require gun handlers to know what’s in the chamber, to inspect it personally.  Baldwin claimed he was innocent because he was told the gun was “cold,” had no live ammunition in the gun.  But that ultimate inspection lies with anyone handling a lethal weapons before point it and pulling the trigger.  Baldwin’s denial that he pulled the trigger won’t sit well in court.
Damage control requires total control over the narrative following regrettable incidents.  Most egregious incidents can be helped with an effective damage control strategy but only if perpetrators listen to expert before they shoot off their mouths in public. Baldwin thought he could control the narrative by giving his own version of the events but only made matters worse for himself.  Crisis and damage control experts can only do so much when clients make unforgivable blunders. Baldwing telling Stephanopulos that he didn’t pull the trigger dug himself into a bigger hole because it just made no sense to anyone.  Blaming the incident on Gutiierrez-Reed and producer David Halls made Baldwin look cavalaier, insincere and trying to deceive the public. “He relied on the professionals with whom he worked, who assured him the gun did not have live rounds,” said Baldwin’s attorney Luke Nikas.

Honestly i would be so much happier if this show was about anyone but the pope, like seriously if it was about cardinal voiello ascending in the church hierarchy through blackmail, sisters marry battling her hardships with raising this two boys and how her life was before becoming a nun, a detective series about cardinal gutierrez in new york investigating the kurtwell case, all of this things would have been awesome but we gotta watch this jack ass padre pio wannabe doing dumb shit and reminiscing about how much he suffered and doing nothing with this suffering but inflicting it into others. And even if it was just like how i described and gonna tell you what!!!!!!!! IT IS SO BADLY EXECUTED (referring to the popes suffering) I don't know why but every other character arcs that are not the pope are soooooooooo well executed and just a nice watch in general but for some reason every time the pope is on the screen they try so hard for to make him a bastion of virtue and at the same time make him someone who makes a lot of mistakes but this mistakes never come to haunt him and at the end were "not a mistake" and were actually just everybody around him doubting his GRANDIOUS! COMPLEX! UNBELIEVABLE! MIND! What it makes is that you dont give an actual fuck about the pope and find interest in any other thing becuse he is boring and just an idiot in general. But maybe thats just me tough (-ω-。)
