Today we made a big dent on the skeeball machine. We got it working (got a cloned sam to play it, haha), and we realized that we a lot to fix. There's quite a bit of design flaws that we couldn't have known about without first building a prototype that we could test. Thank goodness the prototype is only made of cardboard. That's the thing about engineering--you can't just design, build, test, you have to go back and redesign all the time!

And the better you get at making stuff, the more foresight you'll have in designing. For example, had I thought that the ramp may not give the ball the right trajectory to fall into the holes, I would have tested the ramp beforehand separately... or performed a kinematic analysis on the angle of the ramp. :)

Either way, this is what we have to fix on our skeeball machine:

reinforce (the flimsy) base

ball gets stuck in the backboard

ball gets stuck on the ball return because of the gutter button.

ramp needs to be steeper -> test this out. kinematic analysis?

wires are in the way of the ball. need better wiring job.

reprogram gutter button

fix the right trapezoid ball guard

add a hood so that the ball doesn't escape.

On the plus side, the machine looks like an actual skeeball machine! It's funny how a little planning goes a long way.
