Corona bikin kita merana. Namun Corona, membuat kita memiliki alibi untuk tidak kemana-mana. Padahal memang karena duitnya lagi gak ada. Terpakai untuk makan, muter barang dagangan dan aset masa depan. Dalam hal ini, kita bisa melihat sisi positif. Tabungan jadi teralokasi untuk destinasi yang benar-benar diimpikan. Ga abis buat traveling tipis-tipis.

Badai pasti berlalu. Saya yakin vaksin Corona akan ditemukan. Kita pun bisa traveling lagi tanpa harus memakai masker layaknya selebriti. Setelah pandemi ini berakhir, pandangan kita akan berubah. Setelah lama di rumah, kita jadi sadar betapa asiknya bersenda gurau di cafe, bergerombol di mol dan berkeringat bersama.

Pertanyaannya adalah kapan semua ini akan berakhir? 3 bulan? Setahun? 100 tahun?

‘Ibukota dunia’ yang dipenuhi arsitektur romawi yang mempesona, pasta yang menggelora dan patung telanjang yang cemerlang. Ini kali kedua saya ke Roma, dan Roma memang selalu merona. Hidup, Rome Regal!

‘Buongiorno!’ Berikut tempat-tempat seru yang saya kunjungi selama berada di Roma: Jika tidak suka membaca, kamu boleh langsung jalan-jalan seadanya dan senemunya saja. Siapa tahu jodohmu disana.

1. Colosseum

Arena adu jotos yang menjadi simbol keperkasaan Romawi. Saat melangkah masuk, saya membayangkan pertarungan bersimbah darah. 2000 tahun yang lalu, di hadapan ribuan penonton, Gladiator berkelahi melawan binatang buas sampai mati.

Layaknya pertandingan sepakbola, hiruk pikuk membahana! Agar lebih menghayati, saya bergaya ala SPARTA! Walaupun pada akhirnya, saya terlihat seperti mahasiswa yang sedang berorasi.

Saya menyusuri jalan berbatu, pohon pinus dan hamparan hijau yang luas. Menapaki jejak pemimpin terbesar kekaisaran Romawi, Julius Caesar. Kepemimpinannya yang kuat dan cerdas, berhasil membawa pembangunan masif. Kemakmuran yang diperoleh dengan segala cara, termasuk perbudakan.

Dibangun pada abad ke-7 sebelum masehi, dulunya kawasan ini merupakan pusat politik dan komersial kekaisaran Romawi. Sampai pada abad pertengahan, gereja di area ini dijarah secara masif. Lapisan marmer bangunannya dipreteli, sampai hanya tinggal tembok berbatu.

Kemudian saya menaiki bukit Palatine, tempat dimana Romulus dan Remus mendirikan kota ini pada 753 SM. Legenda bercerita bahwa mereka pernah diselamatkan oleh serigala dan membangun distrik elit dan hidup dengan penuh kemewahan.

Bayangkan kalian berdua bercakap-cakap didepannya:

5. Basilica of Our Lady in Trastevere

Trastevere’s main church fronts the main square. Its facade is decorated with a beautiful medieval mosaic depicting Mary feeding Jesus surrounded by 10 women bearing lamps. Two are veiled and hold extinguished lamps, symbolising widowhood, while the lit lamps of the others represent their virginity

The piazza in front of the church is beautiful with a fountain to sit at. Surrounding picturesque streets make Trastevere one of Rome’s most beloved districts

Gereja tertua di Roma yang didedikasikan untuk Bunda Maria. Gereja yang awalnya dibangun di sebuah rumah biasa, di abad ke-3 dimasa penyembahan kepada Yesus masih dilarang. Gereja yang menjadi jantung bagi warga Trestavere. Banyak orang duduk-duduk santai di ‘Piazza’ atau alun-alun depan gereja yang menjadi ruang tamu bersama.

Begitu masuk, saya seperti berada di ruang pengadilan. Pilar-pilar khas Romawi kuno berderet dengan epic. Langit-langitnya dipenuhi mosaik emas. Yang paling cantik adalah Mosaik emas berumur 1000 tahun yang menggambarkan Yesus menggandeng Bunda Maria di surga. Material dan detailnya sungguh mengagumkan. Seni ilahi dari arsitektur klasik yang menakjubkan.

6. Trattoria Da Enzo

Legendary roman cuisine. This was absolutely the best carbonara i have ever tasted. The most tasty, creamy, and chewy al dente Rigatoni with crispy fried artichoke. The flavours were life changing!

Kedai Trattoria Da Enzo berada di distrik tua yang penuh warna, Trestavere. Siang itu, saya datang sesaat sebelum kedai buka. Suasana terasa cosy, italian banget! Dengan sigap, pramusaji mempersilahkan saya yang sudah mengantri untuk menempati tempat duduk.

Saya duduk di kursi meja kecil yang berada di luar dan memesan menu legendaris, Carbonara! Kolaborasi antara salty pasta, creamy pecorino cheese dan crispy guanciale ‘pipi babi’. Rasanya bener-bener enak. Kalo aja ada di Jogja, pasti tiap hari saya minta abang Go-Jek beliin.

This was the world’s biggest stadium ever. Now, the most peaceful place in Rome. When Rome went to the races, it came here. Imagine a million romans cheering on chariots and over looking at all the palatine hill filled with towering palaces

Taman luas yang dulunya arena balap kereta kuda. Formula 1 pada masanya. Siang itu saya duduk dan membayangkan jutaan orang Romawi bersorak-sorai melihat kuda balapan dan saling menikung. Melihat pasangan orang lain saling menikung memang menyenangkan. The world of the Married.

8. Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri

The unassuming entrance. The front is like it carved from the rock. This unique Basilica was designed by Michaelangelo, one of the biggest names in art!

Don’t judge the place by its outside. Pintu masuknya terkesan hanya ukiran batu sederhana, namun interiornya begitu luas dan menawan. Dipenuhi patung, lukisan dan ukiran marble yang indah. Cahaya alami yang masuk seakan seperti sinar malaikat yang menenangkan jiwa. It’s simply adorable!

9. Piazza della Repubblica

Flanked by grand 19th-century neoclassical colonnades, this landmark piazza was laid out as part of Rome’s post-unification makeover

Persis di depan gereja Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri, terdapat alun-alun yang dikelilingi bangunan neo klasik abad ke-19. Kolam air mancur yang dikelilingi patung-patung Naiads, peri air dalam mitologi Yunani.

First built in 1888 to designs by Alessandro Guerrieri that featured four lions, Fontana delle Naiadi aroused puritanical ire when it was unveiled by architect Mario Rutelli in 1901. The nudity of the four naiads (water nymphs) who surround the central figure of Glaucus wrestling a fish, was considered too provocative. How Italy has changed!

Di gereja inilah, Yesus menapaki tangga kayu pada hari penghakimannya. Kini para peziarah menaiki tangga tersebut dengan cara berlutut sambil berdoa.

Begitu masuk ke dalam, saya terperangah dengan interior barok yang surgawi. Saya merasa kecil diantara 15 patung setinggi 7 meter! Patung ke-12 rasul Yesus dan Yohanes pembaptis bertengger diantara pilar dan dinding bangunan marble. Everything is impressive!

Yang paling menakjubkan adalah langit-langitnya yang berkilau emas. Menaungi ‘kanopi’ abad ke-14 yang berdiri megah di altar kepausan. Gothic Baldachin yang menjadi tempat penyimpanan potongan tengkorak Santo Paulus dan Petrus.

Best carving details! I wonder how were they able to create such a delicate art. The craftmanship is mind blowing.

Selain Tazza D’oro, cafe ini juga paling eksis di Roma. Cafe dengan italian experience yang kental dan selalu dijejali turis. Pesan, bayar di kasir, lalu bawa notanya ke barista di bar. Barista akan membuat kopi dan menyajikannya dengan cepat, coffee drive-through. Sangat berbeda dengan kebiasaan di negara kita yang suka nongkrong dan ngopi lama-lama.

Di tengah keramaian, saya berdiri di depan bar layaknya Mafioso, menyeruput cappuccino sambil mengunyah Millefoglie, roti tipis berisi Nutella. Buih susu yang tebal menyatu dengan pahitnya espresso dan manisnya Nutella di mulut. Sungguh kenikmatan yang hakiki.

The best preserved temple from ancient Rome. A staggering work of architecture with its gigantic interior

Monumen yang melambangkan kebesaran Romawi. Terlihat dari terasnya yang ditopang oleh pilar-pilar raksasa berusia 2000 tahun. Butuh 4 orang untuk bisa memeluk satu ‘tiang’ yang didatangkan langsung dari Mesir ini.

Karena saat itu gak tahu ingin memeluk pilar dengan siapa, maka saya berfoto saja. Mengupload ke Instagram lalu berharap foto tersebut di-love jutaan umat. Ya, Oppa haus akan popularitas.

Although impressive from outside, it’s only when you step inside that you can appreciate the finest look at the splendor of ancient Rome. It’s a thrilling experience to pass through Pantheon’s vast bronze doors and gaze up at the largest unreinforced concrete dome ever built

Saya masuk melewati pintu perunggu raksasa. Mata langsung tertuju pada cahaya yang menyelinap melalui Oculus. Menatap lubang berukuran 8.7 meter, yang dulunya secara simbolis menjadi penghubung antara manusia dengan dewa-dewa.

Kubah ini dianggap sebagai pencapaian arsitektur terpenting Romawi. Dulunya sempat menjadi kubah terbesar di dunia, sampai akhirnya Brunelleschi menciptakan kubah yang jauh lebih besar di Florence Cathedral.

14. St. Pieter’s Basilica

Basilica terbesar, terkaya, dan paling spektakuler sedunia. Berdiri megah diatas tempat bermakamnya the first pope of Vatican, Santo Petrus. Kejeniusan artistik dari sebuah bangunan gereja yang menyimpan 3 karya seni paling mulia: Pietà Michelangelo, The awesome Dome, dan Baldachin Bernini.

The original St Peter’s, which lies beneath the current basilica, was commissioned by the emperor Constantine and built around 349 on the site where St Peter is said to have been buried between AD 64 and 67

It’s huge! Gereja seluas 33,000 meter persegi ini bisa menampung ribuan umat. Saat masuk, saya seakan tersihir. Baldachin setinggi 29 meter dengan 4 pilar spiral perunggu, berdiri di tengah gereja, di atas Altar of the Confession. Dilangitnya terdapat kubah karya Michaelangelo setinggi 119 meter. Cahaya matahari yang masuk melalui jendela, memperjelas kecantikan gereja.

I fell in love as i step inside the earth’s largest church. It contains the burial site of Saint Peter, one of the 12 apostles of Jesus. The architecture is simply divine. I was amazed at the detail of Renaissance beauty and how the light falls in stunning rays.

No visit to the Vatican Museums would be complete without the Sistine Chapel. The jewel in the Vatican crown, Cappella Sistina is home to the world’s most famous works of art: Michelangelo’s ceiling frescoes and his ‘Last Judgment’

Saya memandang ke atas surga mahakarya Michaelangelo. Langit-langit lukisan sinematik dari visi perjanjian lama. Mengecat langit-langit berkubah 800 meter persegi di ketinggian lebih dari 20 meter bukanlah hal yang mudah. Namun kejeniusan dan kerja keras Michaelangelo membuahkan hasil.

Penggambarannya tentang ‘The Last Judgement’ membuat semua orang terpana. Akan tiba masa dimana kita semua dihakimi atas apa yang telah kita perbuat.

It’s admirable painting gallery includes Raphael’s much loved ‘Transfiguration’. It relates to stories of the Gospel of Matthew, and depicts the dual human and divine nature of Jesus Christ. Jesus is on the top, followed by the two prophets, prophets Elijah and Moses. 17. National Museum of Castel Sant’Angelo

The large drum shaped castle overlooking the river. A monumental ancient tomb with a medieval castle.

Kastil yang langsung dapat dikenali karena bentuknya yang bulat dan chunky. Awalnya dibangun untuk makam Kaisar Hadrian, yang kemudian pada abad ke-6 diubah menjadi benteng kepausan setelah Paus Gregorius mendapat ‘penglihatan’.

Sekarang, castle ini dijadikan museum yang menyimpan lukisan, patung, dan peralatan militer dari abad pertengahan. Yang paling keren, didalamnya terdapat ‘Pasetto di Borgo’ lorong rahasia menuju Vatican. Tempat Paus berlindung saat berada dalam situasi genting.

Walaupun tidak masuk ke dalam castle, saya sangat menikmati berjalan di jembatan yang indah. Satu hal yang mengganggu adalah nigga yang berusaha menjual gelang dengan cara ‘manis’. ‘Hi, it’s free for you’ kata mereka sambil membuka satu tangan saya dan memberikannya. Buru-buru langsung saya kembalikan dan berpaling.

Mereka juga suka memuji dengan kata-kata ‘Hi i like your shoes, where do you come from?’ Saran saya, cuekin aja. Ujung-ujungnya mereka akan memaksamu untuk membeli. Tetap fokus dan jaga barang bawaanmu. Jangan sampai kamu kena tipu-tipu.

18. Tazza D’Oro

Kamu bisa membaca tentang cafe ini di blog saya sebelumnya Rome Sweet Rome. Saya kembali kesini karena belum sempat cobain latte-nya. Buih susunya yang creamy ditambah espresso-nya yang strong, kembali bikin saya menggelinjang. Bombastis!
