Essential Car Battery Maintenance Tips to Extend Battery Life
Car battery service is essential for any automobile. From starting your car to charging your phones on the go, batteries provide the essential electricity your car needs to get going. Thus, it is crucial to know the importance of car key battery replacement and to know the essential car battery maintenance tips to extend the battery life.
Tumblr media
What Causes Your Car Battery Breakdown?
Some external factors including hot and cold weather, battery conditions, and many other things can cause breakdown. Mechanic Now is a car battery breakdown service to improve battery life.
Severe hot and cold temperatures: cold weather can cause chemical reactions that cause the electrical charge of the battery to occur slowly, causing frequent dead batteries on cold mornings. Also, the chemical reaction can speed up in extremely hot weather which accelerates corrosion and decreases battery life.
Battery drains: after turning off the vehicle, something drawing power from the battery can drain it. It eventually requires emergency car battery service. Some examples include charging the mobile phone, leaving the interior light on, using the car’s electronics, etc. Some issues with the electrical system of your car can also cause battery drainage.
Vibration: Inside damage of the battery from extreme vibrations tends to shorten its life. Its reasons could be longer drives on bumpy roads, large potholes, or driving too fast over a speed breaker. A car repair garage can help you with these problems.
Corrosion: corroded items connected to the battery can affect its ability to charge. It can also damage the clamps connecting batteries to the car, affecting the electrical connection. Car battery service will let you change or repair the corroded parts.
Age: car batteries will gradually reach the end of their life span, ranging from 3 to 5 years. This will decline its performance. Mechanic Now can help you with car battery replacement and car battery change service.

Here’s Why Should You Not Ignore Vibration Coming From Your Car
Although it is uncommon given the advancement of technology, you might feel some sort of vibration while driving. There is a complex mechanical system at work that has the ability to cause some vibration.
Before it starts to bother you, a vibrating car does not seem like a serious problem. Light vibration is acceptable, but if you start to experience strong vibration, there might be a serious issue going on.
Due to wear and tear over time, there could be some serious problems. The vibration inside a car is not something you immediately notice, but it gets worse over time until you start to notice it a lot.
It might be serious because your smooth, comfortable ride could suddenly turn into something you wouldn't have expected.
However, there is no need to panic because the majority of the underlying causes of a car vibration are quite straightforward. They can be fixed without too much difficulty. However, you need to delve deep to discover the underlying reason for the car's vibration problem.
Tumblr media
To learn more about the problems, continue reading the following points.
Behind a vibrating vehicle, there might be a number of a car’s components, such as the engine, wheels, tyres, etc. Let’s have a look at these issues and how they contribute to the vibration of your car.
The engine produces substantial vibrations
Tumblr media
How does a tiny engine cause a whole vehicle to vibrate? Of course, an engine is a dynamic component even though it is static in one location. Generally speaking, an engine has parts that create movement. There are engine problems causing the vibration in your car, whether it is the crankshaft, a piston inside the cylinder, or the timing belt managing the synchronization. Once you start to accelerate, your car usually starts to vibrate.
However, a clogged fuel filter, an inefficient supply of fuel mixture to the combustion chamber, or a lack of air in the engine can all lead to shaking. Improper fuel might cause an engine to misfire and your vehicle to appear to vibrate when your car has high RPMs.
Besides, the worn out spark plug also fails to provide proper ignition and might end up causing disruption in the combustion process.
Never put off an engine diagnosis to determine the true cause if you are experiencing this kind of problem along with the vibration. You can use Service My Car's services for your car repair. At very reasonable prices, our experts can diagnose and assist in car engine repair. You also get services such as spark plugs replacement or timing belt replacement at very affordable rates.
Damaged motor mounts yield substantial vibration
Tumblr media
A sturdy mount supports the engine. The engine may vibrate and shake while idling or when stopped if the motor mounts sustain any damage. This part stabilises the engine in its establishment while tackling road shocks and vibrations.
However, vibration due to motor mount is not a cause for concern as you can replace the motor mount at any nearest workshop of Service My Car.
Misaligned wheels create vibrations at high speeds
Tumblr media
However, vibrations from your car's misaligned wheels could occur. A misalignment typically causes a car to drift to one side, and it could also make your car's steering feel a little shaky.
In addition, there are other issues with wheels, such as loose lug nuts on a wheel at the hub. You experience substantial vibration during high speeds.
As long as you go to a reputable service centre, wheel alignment does not require much effort.
Additionally, a car’s wheel imbalance contributes to the presence of vibration. In general, a wheel and the axels must rotate with an even weight distribution; otherwise, the wheel may not be able to rotate properly. Your car might vibrate as a result.
Additionally, a car’s wheel imbalance contributes to the presence of vibration. In general, a wheel and the axels must rotate with an even weight distribution; otherwise, the wheel may not be able to rotate properly. Your car might vibrate as a result.
Tires can put you in trouble if they vibrate
Tumblr media
Most of the times, the main factor contributing to car vibration is the tyres. If your car's tyres are out of balance, vibrations will begin to occur after it reaches a certain speed.
Additionally, if you have neglected to rotate your tyres, it is likely that the wear and tear on the tyres is uneven. And, your car sense vibration while accelerating quickly off the line.
A tyre may also lose its shape for a variety of less obvious reasons. This type of expelled shape may contribute in vibration.
The incorrect inflation of the tyres is another factor contributing to your car's vibration. Incorrect inflation can cause a car to drift to one side and cause vibrations to be felt throughout the vehicle, including at the steering wheel.
However, there is no mechanical fix for a tyre, while you can opt for tyre rotation or an entire new set of tyres for your car.
If your car vibrating so much and you are looking for car service then Service My Car will help you to provide best services such as engine repair, head gasket repair, oil change, wheel alignment, car key battery and many more at an affordable price.
However, these vibrations do not seem too serious, but they might be and put you in danger. Consult with a specialist at Service My Car right away. Book a car service or order a car repair quote online anytime.

All of me, loves all of you

Tumblr media
word count: 1.3k
warnings: possible spelling mistakes, some language, hate comments, nothing else lmk if I missed anything
summary: you’ve always been told in your life by multiple people that you’re always either too loud or too quiet and it’s one of your biggest insecurities but happens to be your boyfriend’s favourite thing about you.
A/N: sorta inspired by @obsidianbaby fic with a little twist and hers is a Chris version. Here it is if you want to check it out. Listen to John Legend ‘all of me’ while reading if you want <3
❗️semi proof read❗️
Tumblr media
You were on sat on the couch as the triplets rushed around the house getting the equipment they needed to film the car video, all they had left to find was a battery because Nick once again forgot to charge the battery so they had to find a charged one to replace the dead battery before filming whilst also waiting for their food to arrive.
“Y/N are you joining us for the video? Or can I be Matt’s passenger princess?” Chris joked as he made his way past her towards the kitchen to check their junk drawer for the spare battery.
“Fuck where is it?” He muttered to himself as he rummaged through the drawer, unsuccessful in finding what he was looking for. The younger woman didn’t acknowledge her best friend at first, her head being buried in her phone, more specifically, looking at the comments on last Friday’s car video where she was having one of her more quiet days and the comments surely picked up on the sudden mood change compared to her yapping in the Wednesday video prior to the Friday car video.
‘She needs to make up her mind, either be loud or be quiet Jesus Christ’
‘How do they put up with her? She’s so annoying’
‘Y/N needs to be more entertaining omg😭’
‘One day she’s quiet the next she won’t stfu, must be so annoying to the triplets, how do they like her??? Especially Matt??? Poor guy’
‘She’s such a weirdo, either being way too loud or way too quiet💀’
‘Y/N?? You with me kid?” Chris waved his hand in front of her face to grab her attention.
“Hmm? Sorry Chris what did you say?” She replied to the older boy. As he was about to reply, the doorbell rang signaling the food had arrived, Matt came from his bedroom and made his way down the stairs to open the door and get the food, thanking the delivery driver as he closed the door. He came back up the stairs and placed the bag of McDonald’s on the kitchen table, sorting out who’s is who’s.
“I was asking if you were coming to film with us?” she shook her head in response.
“No, I’ll sit this one out, I think. Maybe just watch a film or have a shower and an early night.”
Matt’s head turned in the direction of his girlfriend and brother as soon as he heard the words leave Y/N’s mouth, immediately sensing something was wrong.
“You okay baby? You feeling good?” He asked, concern written all over his features, Matt made his way over to the Y/H/C girl with her usual McDonalds order of 9 chicken nuggets, medium fries and a peach iced tea. He placed her food on the table in front of her and quickly raised the back of his hand to her forehead, her temperature seemed fine to him.
“Yeah, I’m okay Matt, I promise, I’m just tired you know I’ve had a busy day.” She explained, looking up at her boyfriend with a not very convincing smile on her face, not convincing to Matt anyway, he could read her like a book.
Nick had found the battery, and the camera was now ready to set up in the car.
“You coming you two?” He calls out to the couple while grabbing his food off the kitchen table. Chris doing the same and stood with the oldest triplet waiting for an answer.
“Give us a minute Nick, you and Chris head to the car.” Matt replied, throwing his car keys in the direction of Chris which he smoothly caught. The brothers made their way downstairs to the garage to unlock the car. In the living room, Matt was now sat next to Y/N on the couch. He noticed a stray tear make it’s way down her cheek.
“Baby please just tell me what’s bothering you. It can’t be silly if it’s making you cry.” he stated as he wiped the stray tears off her cheeks with his thumbs. He looked over to her unlocked phone that had since been discarded on the table, he removed his hands from her face and picked her phone up, raising his eyebrows as if asking permission to look through the phone. She nodded in silent understanding. He looked at the illuminated screen and a frown immediately made its way onto his face, followed by a glare at some of the comments that his so called fans had left about the love of his life.
“They hate me.” Y/N said dejectedly, biting her nails anxiously as Matt continued to read the comments. Matt sighed before he replied.
“Oh baby. A few comments mean nothing okay my love, what matters is what you think and what I think, and I think you’re amazing just the way you are.”
“But Matt it’s not just a few comments! It’s every other comment, either saying you must be annoyed by me, or I don’t deserve you or that I’m a weirdo all because I’m always either too loud or too quiet! I’ve always been made fun of because of it!” She replied frustrated, tears beginning to well up in her eyes yet again.
Suddenly Matt placed her phone face down on the couch and grabbed her hand before leading her to his bathroom. He switched the light on and placed her in front of the mirror and rested his chin on her shoulder and wrapped his arms around her waist.
“See this woman in the mirror? She is the most perfect woman I have ever met, every little detail of her, from her freckles to her personality makes her even more perfect to me and I fall more in love with her every day.” He placed a trail of kisses leading from her shoulder up to her cheek before he loosened his hold on her waist to turn her so she was facing him before continuing.
“Darling, you can’t let the things people who hide behind their screens tell you define you okay? It would break my heart to see their nasty words dim my princess’ light, okay? You are perfect to me, and that’s all that matters, okay? Not some bullshit random people on the internet say, they’re just jealous 12 year olds.” He joked, lightening the mood, causing a small smile to creep up on her face, he smiled at the sight.
“There’s my favorite smile!” He exclaimed.
He cupped her cheeks before speaking again.
“Love, you have to remember if you ever feel like this again, is all of me loves all of you, okay? Always has and always will, you’re my favorite person and you being both loud and quiet balances me out perfectly, if I need a quiet and safe place you give that to me, or if I need to let off energy and be crazy, you go on all kinds of crazy adventures with me. I couldn’t be more thankful for you. I love you so much my angel.”
“I love you too my love” she replied, happy tears now in her eyes as opposed to the sad and frustrated tears in her eyes not even 20 minutes ago.
“What do you say, we go film the video with Nick and Chris, I want the better passenger princess next to me and not the one who burps 24/7 and looks like me” he joked, she let out a laugh at her boyfriend.
“Sure, let’s go film. I wanna grab my food first though.” He nodded and the couple made their way into the living room to grab Y/N’s food before making their way down to the garage where they heard Nick and Chris arguing over something ridiculous, they both laughed at the pair. The two in the car noticed the couple stood in the doorway making their way to the car. Y/N got in the car while Matt remained outside, focusing the camera. Y/N threw a thumbs up to Matt as the camera was set up right. Chris gave Y/N a quick hug from the back seat before he spoke.
“You good now kid?” He asked, she nodded and smiled back at him as Matt got in the car and pressed record. The four filming the video full of laughs and debates. Matt added in a little rant to the viewers on being nicer to Y/N and from that point forward, the hate comments had died down to the odd few from jealous fan girls.

Pairing: Jason Todd x Reader
Warnings: A little suggestive if you squint
Word Count: 1.2k words
Tumblr media
You don't know how you allowed yourself to get manipulated into being a girlboss and moving out of your childhood home to live in your own apartment. While it was nice to have your own privacy and decorate your home however you liked, you realized just how many privileges you lost now that you weren't in the care of your parents.
There was no one there to make sure you woke up on time in the few cases where you slept through your alarm, no one that you could call on your way back from work to ask to switch on the water heater so you could take a steamy shower immediately.
You didn't have your mother's homecooked meals and you didn't have your father to pick you up snacks from the grocery store.
And one of the biggest thorns in your side was the reason you were dreading the entire day. Car maintenance. The auto shop was one of the most daunting places in your life as a girl who knew nothing about cars. Never once had you regretted not learning how to take care of your car or even the procedure required when you eventually take your car down to the auto shop.
But now standing in the hot and dusty garage, you were seriously rethinking your life choices. You should've scheduled these things for when your dad was visiting so you could ask him to take it instead. Or, even better, you should've gotten a boyfriend.
You were complaining in your head, dragging your feet about having to be here in the first place and whined about handing your car keys, with a bunch of adorable keychains attached to some rando.
But when Jason Todd, 6'2 man with biceps that were larger than your own head and a body that looked like he was shaped out of marble by Michelangelo himself walked out with a form for you to fill out, you were all too happy to be there.
Perhaps you'd be leaving here with a boyfriend after all.
"I have to admit, I don't really know much about cars so please don't scam me."
Jason chuckled, a deep, hoarse laugh that made you a little weak in the knees honestly and the boy-crazed fraction of your brain began to imagine how he would sound as soon as he woke up next to you, after a night of—
"A bit of advice, you probably don't want to let scammers know that you have no idea what they're talking about."
You giggled, scolding yourself mentally for finding that funny.
'Come on, (Y/N), pull yourself together it wasn't even that funny. His face is just great delivery.'
"Or I could keep coming here and have you check my car, since you're so trustworthy." You mused, sparing him a teasing smile.
Jason was completely picking up what you were putting down, giving you a coy smile of his own before responding, "Or perhaps this is just a tactic to get you to keep coming back."
You narrowed your eyes playfully, "Devious."
Looking back at his little clipboard, a thin metal rod of some kind tucked behind his ear instead of a pen, Jason asked, "When was the last time you got your car checked out? If your battery and brake pad was replaced recently, we could probably skip that and just do a routine check to make sure everything's running smoothly."
You winced, "I couldn't tell you, honestly. My dad usually handles this kinda stuff for me, I'm still kind of a new lamb when it comes to taking care of my car."
Jason raised his eyes from the clipboard for a second, "Your boyfriend can't do this kinda stuff for you instead?"
"I don't have a boyfriend."
He perked up immediately and you ducked your head to hide your smile, "I'm sure you probably have a record of it in your glovebox or something. Most places keep a little sticker with the date of your last service under the dash. I'll check it out for you, do you have somewhere to be, or do you have a couple minutes so I can make sure?"
You shook your head, shrugging your shoulders with a carefree smile, "It's my day off so I'm free as a bird."
He grinned, "Noted. Just give me a second."
You watched his back receding as he walked toward your car, shoulders looking like they could span the entire ocean and it was only when he was sat in the car and had turned on the engine did you whip out your phone at lightspeed.
"Ohmygosh Julie, I think I just met my future husband. Holy shit. He's so cute—gorgeous actually. He's working on my car right now and God, those arms, wow. And those eyes? God, I feel blessed just by looking at his face." The end of your message was interrupted by another mechanic running the engine.
You waited patiently for the sound of the engine to die before replaying the voice message so you could re-record the part that got cut off. Only you couldn't hear a thing.
Confused, you increased the volume, taking a sip from your coffee to soothe the inhumane squeal that you had let out while sending Julie the voice message. Once again you heard nothing.
You bit your lip at this, swiping down at the corner of your phone at access your control center and realizing the reason you couldn't hear anything was because it was connected to the Bluetooth on your car.
Wait.
THE CAR?!
You whipped around in horror only to find Jason smirking at you from the front seat of your car. If the world were fair, you'd be struck down with lightning right then and there. Or, since you were at an auto shop, a sentient car might run you over.
Alas, you continued to stand there in horror, completely unharmed no matter how badly you wished to be reduced to a puddle on the ground.
You called him your future husband. The ground should've swallowed you then and there. Instead, you just stood there in complete mortification and embarrassment while you stared at his amused expression.
Something startled him out of his gaze for a second and he pointed at your console, making a gesture like he was taking a call. Confused, you glanced at your phone.
'Incoming call: Julie'
Ah, saved by the bell.
*
"How much do I owe you?" You asked, quickly popping open your purse to fish out your credit card. You had stretched out the conversation with Julie as long as possible, begging her not to hang up and only interrupting her tangent when Jason finally came up to you, saying that your car was good to go.
"It's on the house." He gave you a charming grin, leaning an arm against the counter, "Can't have my future wife paying for anything, can I?"
Your cheeks flared red, still holding out your card for him to take, "O-Oh, I couldn't, really."
"If you insist, then you can always repay me with dinner. Today's your day off, right? Think you can pencil me in for 7?"
A shy smile grew on your face, your body so warm you had to resist fanning your burning cheeks, "Sounds like a plan."

—on thin ice
well, i hear the music. close my eyes, feel the rhythm. wrap around, take a hold of my heart. — hockeyplayer!cregan x iceskater!reader ; ₊˚。⋆❆⋆。˚
Tumblr media
Cregan glances across the rink, leaning against a support beam while he takes a short break, watching you.
You glide across the ice—earbuds shoved in your ears as you listen to upbeat pop music—dancing, wiggling your hips, shaking your arms, and the smile on his face only grows wider at the adorable sight of you.
You begin jumping across the ice—sticking every one of your landings, before raising your arms upwards. Your body turns into naught more than a blur as you spin impossibly fast before settling again. You glide, jump, crouch down and spin again, then gradually grow like a flower reaching for the sun as you arch your back and splay your arms out from either side of you.
Once you're fully upright once more, you open your eyes—your imaginary crowd, which throws bouquets and soft stuffed animals onto the ice fading away as you realize you're being watched in actuality.
You stutter, nearly falling on your bottom as you rip your headphones from your ears, blushing madly.
You skate a bit closer, mortified.
"Were... Were you watching me?"
He grins, nodding, removing his gloves.
"I was. Sorry. I wasn't trying to uh—" He gestures toward the other end of the rink which you'd just previously occupied—where you'd put on quite the performance for none other than him.
Even if you'd been wholly unaware of his presence...
"I wasn't trying to spy or be nosy," he finishes. "You're really good. Do you compete?"
You blanch. "Oh, no. Nothing like that. It's just... Just for fun. A hobby."
He nods. "You looked like a pro to me."
You smile, trying to tamper down just how happy that makes you feel to hear. You don't want him to see just how starved you are for approval. For compliments. Especially ones that pertain to your skating.
Your eyes trail along his hockey stick. "Do you? Play professionally, I mean. Well, on a team."
He nods. "The Direwolves? Our team at school?"
You flush. "Oh, right."
"You don't recognize me, do you?" He asks, looking at you from under his lashes.
"No, I do. We have history together."
You pause. "Cregan, right?"
He smiles, nodding, glad to hear that you know his name. "Had a lot of classes together since middle school."
You remain silent, merely nodding in agreement.
"Y/N."
You raise your brows in interest. "Hm?"
"No, I was just—that's your name. I wanted you to know that I know yours, too."
You smile, still nodding.
He shifts on his skates, nervously scratching the back of his head. "Well, I'll let you get back to it. It was nice talking to you."
"You too!" You reply cheerily, quickly skating away.
Tumblr media
No matter how hard you turn the key, the ignition barely cranks. Instead, it merely gives you a death rattle.
You slam your hands against the wheel. "Not now! Just get me home, and then you can die! But not really. Please?"
You jolt when you hear a quiet tapping against your window. You quickly roll it down and Cregan leans in toward you. "You need a jump?"
You nod, getting out, hoping he hadn't witnessed you talking to your car. "If you wouldn't mind, I'd really appreciate it."
"No trouble," he replies, walking over to his truck.
Tumblr media
Cregan grimaces once he's popped your hood.
You study him warily. "That bad?"
"Your battery is corroded," he states, hooking up the cables.
"I'll get it to start, and that will get you home, but you need to replace it, or this is going to keep happening."
You cross your arms, frowning. "How much will that cost?"
He shrugs a shoulder. "Maybe a hundred, give or take."
You throw your head back, groaning loudly in irritation. "Great."
He smirks, heading back over to his truck, turning it over.
Tumblr media
Once your vehicular situation is resolved—for the evening, that is—Cregan holds your driver-side door open for you, lying his forearms atop it while you stand on the opposite side.
"Hey, if you want," he starts, and you look at him after tossing your water bottle into the passenger seat. "I could start giving you rides to and from school. Take you to the rink after. Since I'll be headed that way, anyway."
You tuck a lock of hair behind your ear. "I wouldn't want to put you out. I can take the school bus, it's fine."
He jerks his head toward the rec center. "What about the rink?"
You shrug, not replying.
"It's not an issue. It's on my way."
You raise a brow. "You don't know where I live."
He grows quiet for a moment, and then a grin spreads across his lips. "So I'll make it a part of my way."
You shake your head with a smile, sighing. "Only if you're sure."
"I am."
Tumblr media
You and Cregan Stark have been classmates since your first day of middle school, but not necessarily friends.
The two of you are alike in that you're loners, which funnily enough serves to later bring you together as friends as you bond, initially, over a mutual love of skating, and cold weather in your small, northern town.
But you also come from two different worlds.
Cregan, from a large, wholesome family, and a good support system, and you from a struggling, broken home, with not a single person to lean on.
Ice-skating serves as the only escape from the nightmare you live, until a second house opens its door to you, and you, for the first time since your grandpa passed—the same man who purchased for you your first pair of skates—find a place to call home.
And thus, two worlds merge into one.

god knows I’ve tried // yuki tsunoda
Tumblr media Tumblr media
summary: stranded at her publishers office after the battery in her car dies, there’s only one person she wants to call for a jumpstart.
pairing: yuki tsunoda x lawson!reader
warnings: self-deprecating humor, y/n is very self critical, yuki is her night in shining armour, total lack of christmas spirit, anxiety.
author's note: this resonates so personally with me and i feel so fricking attached to this story and all the people in it. please treat it kindly :)
so go on judge me by my cover, and no I’ll never have another. baby I’ve been bad, but god knows I’ve tried to be good
it's too early for damn christmas lights, she huffed to herself as she left the office, juggling the volkswagen keys that dangled from her fingertips with the large cardboard box between her arms, staring at the lights and tinsel hung up on the light poles. cursing to herself and trying not to drop anything, she fumbled for the unlock button, ready to ditch the box in her trunk.
her volkswagen golf stood solitary and alone in the parking lot, no other cars for miles. if liam was here, he'd be asking where her pepper spray was, god forbid anything happen to his baby sister.
there was only a year between them, but sometimes she swore that liam acted as if there were five.
the cold dug into her skin as she hobbled through the parking lot, trying to keep her head on a swivel as she once again asked herself why she had parked so far away from any other car. she fumbled with the trunk button (which was unresponsive a lot more than it actually opened the trunk), unceremoniously dumping the box so hard that the small red car started to shake.
she slammed the trunk shut, frowning as she ran a fingertip over the small spot of rust that had begun to form where the silver letters proclaimed to the world what kind of car she drove met the painted trunk door.
she opened the car door, slipping into the driver's seat and staring at the overhead door lights, which had not illuminated as they were intended to when the door opens.
"motherfucker." she mumbled. "i'm gonna have to replace the latch, aren't i?" this was not new. she'd had multiple issues with the car, buying it from a dealership that advertised mostly on facebook.
never again, the next car she buys will be certified pre-owned from a volkswagen dealer, not a used car lot.
the latch would need replacing eventually: it had already locked up the door and prevented her from opening her car, even after smashing the unlock button on her keys five times. she rolled her eyes, closing the door and sliding the key into the ignition.
the key turned, but the car didn't start. growing increasingly panicked, she turned the key a few more times, the same ministrations that normally started up the ten year old car.
"fuck!" she howled, slamming her hands down on the steering wheel as the engine refused to turn over again. she reached for the headlight button, feeling her stomach drop to the floor when there was no response from the headlights.
the engine battery was dead.
she was stranded, alone, in a dark parking lot at night.
it didn't get more fucked than that.
she reached for her phone, the screen providing the only light source as she fumbled for the lock button, and making sure her finger hovered steadily over the panic alarm on her keys. just in case.
who was she going to call, she wondered, scrolling through her contacts. definitely not liam, she couldn't trouble him like that. remind him that she'd always need protecting. she could call her best friend, but the likelihood that margot would know what to do was slim. besides, she was probably out with her boyfriend if she wasn't at work.
her finger hovered over a name, and she debated long and hard if it was worth it, if she was really desperate enough to ask him for help. would he come? would he consider it strange that his best friend's baby sister was calling in the middle of the night because she was dumb enough to drain her car battery?
right now, it didn't look like she really had a choice. unless she wanted to call a tow truck and be out a couple hundred bucks.
"hello?"
"yuki, it's y/n. i need your help."
when the headlights of yuki's honda civic type r lit up the parking lot, she could have cried from relief. the dead battery also meant no heat, and she was chilled to the bone, teeth chattering together as she clutched her phone in one hand and her keys in the other.
"thank god you're here!" she blurted, scrambling out of the car as yuki pulled into the parking space on her passenger side. "i didn't know who else to call!"
ah, yes. yuki tusnoda. backlit by his headlights, he looked like a guardian angel. he'd been close with the lawsons since he came to england, being practically adopted when he moved in with liam at milton keynes, like some fucked up version of a college roommate scheme.
not to mention that he was funny, hot as hell, and she never knew if his cheerful, gentle ribbing meant he looked at her as more than a friend. every time he gifted her a casserole dish of something he had cooked, or invited her out when he and liam went somewhere, she couldn't help but think that maybe he liked her the way that she liked him.
in a way that was anything but just friendly.
"didn't you just get something fixed on your car?" yuki frowned popping his car hood open and digging around in his glove box for the jumper cables.
"i changed a headlight last week. the last major thing was the driveshaft, i couldn't fix that myself, had to take it in." she frowned, lifting up the hood of her own car, using her phone light to find the battery cover. "the car is a piece of shit, but at least it's reliable. and the driveshaft was covered by the dealership since it should have been on the safety certification and wasn't."
yuki frowned, untangling the cables before he dropped them to the pavement, peeling off his puffer jacket. "your lips are blue. take my jacket. i doubt liam would like it if let his little sister get hypothermia"
"pneumonia."
"same difference."
"not really." she laughed, pulling yuki's jacket over her own thin flannel trench coat. she hated wearing a thick winter coat when she drove, relying almost entirely on her car's heated seats to keep warm without suffocating.
"if i get sick because i sacrificed my jacket for you, i should hope that you'd be the one to take care of me. you know, since it was your own fault." yuki chuckled, hooking up the cables as y/n tried to keep warm
"fuck you. i could have stayed in the car."
"the car doesn't have heat either."
oh. yeah. she forgot about that one.
"well, i could have stayed in your fancy ass sports car." it didn't matter how she phrased it, she was just trying to butter him up. on a normal day, she made fun of him for driving a honda civic, calling it a 'mom-mobile'.
with the jumper cables fully connected, they both settled into the honda to wait it out. usually, the rule of thumb was fifteen minutes, but she wasn;t sure that she could stand to be in a car with yuki for that long without doing something reckless.
she slipped out of his jacket, moving to pass it to him before he gestured vaguely to the backseat. the heated seats were on, but she could still see the puffs of air leaving her body as she breathed heavily.
"thanks for coming. i didn't know who to call."
yuki turned to look at her, turning down the volume on the radio. it was a shame, too. she was quite enjoying 'teenage dirtbag'. "why didn't you call liam?"
"pride, i think. he's always been the favourite, the one that stuck with it, the one that made something of himself. i don't need to admit to him that i need help, that i don't know things. because i do, it just sometimes takes me a little longer to get it, or i give up too quickly."
yuki frowned. "liam worries about you, you know. he doesn't like seeing you upset. and he's always been proud of you, so have your parents."
she shivered, pulling her sleeves over her hands. "it's just always been more upfront with liam. they keep telling me that i give up on things too quickly. you know, i realized the other day that i don't really have any hobbies any more. outside of paint nights with the girls, i don't paint anymore. i don't do any sports. reading is really all i do any more."
"that doesn't define your worth, you know. you've got other things going on right now that are taking up your time." yuki encouraged, fiddling with the heating dial. "hey, speaking of which, what are you doing here so late at night?"
she groaned, tilting her head back. "god, this is embarrassing." she hid her head in her hands before turning back to yuki. "promise not to laugh too hard?"
"why would i laugh at you?"
"i was picking up advance copies of my first book." she turned and looked out the window, at the empty parking lot illuminated solely by yuki's headlights. "i've spent the better part of the last two years working on it, and i'm scared i'm going to fail at it like i failed at everything else."
she felt a warm hand overtop of hers. "that's incredible. that's such a major accomplishment, y/n. why are you doubting yourself? you've made it this far."
she smiled, turning to face him. "yeah, but how many people want to read about a detective in small-town new zealand who lives in a haunted house?"
yuki raised an eyebrow. "you already have my interest."
and what great author could resist going on and on about their latest endeavor?
"okay, so it's about this detective in new zealand, she's just moved to this small town as part of a so-called promotion, but really she was desperate and only took the job because she wanted out of the city, a nice change of scenery and whatever. but after she moves in, she finds out the house is haunted and the ghosts actually end up helping her solve her first big case."
she left out the part about how there were three ghosts: one was a dead rockstar, one was a nineteen-thirties midwife and the other was a dead nun. the witty banter between the group of them was a joy to write.
"she also has a crush on this guy who lives across the street. he's an autobody mechanic, with a collection of classic cars."
who totally wasn't inspired by yuki and his gorgeous brown eyes or luscious black hair. well, her one argument was that book guy was about a foot taller than yuki was.
"hell yeah, i'd read that." yuki laughed. "or i'd watch the movie, depending on how long the book was."
y/n laughed, and it felt good. it felt like it had bene forever since she laughed. "it's a cozy mystery series, so it's supposed to make you laugh, be predictable. i took notes from agatha christie, the best of the best. i just hope that the general consumer market also sees it that way."
"i'm sure you'll do fine. as long as it's not like, five hundred pages long, i can't see why anybody wouldn't want to read it."
catching y/n's eye, yuki snickered. "it's not that long, is it?"
"no, it's just under three hundred. they made me cut the sex scenes out."
she watched yuki's eyes go wide, before she burst out laughing as well.
"i'm kidding!" she giggled. "i'm kidding, there aren't any sex scenes in cozy mysteries."
despite how warm the car was, a shiver went down yukis spine at the thought that the innocent, angelic young woman sitting next him, separated only only by the center console, had written numerous sex scenes.
“would you read it? now that you know how many pages it has?”
“yes.” yuki insisted. “of course I would. Liam’s shown me some of your novellas. you are such a good writer. a real talent.”
she yawned, leaning back against the leather seat with a yawn and a shake of her head. “if this book crashes and burns, I’ll remind you you said that. hey, would you be willing to give me a starred review to print on the back cover?”
yuki hummed for a minute, looking up at the sunroof and then back at the girl sitting next to him. “hmm, great mystery, lovely author, not enough sex and could use more descriptions of food.” he joked, playfully gripping her shoulder.
“yeah, yeah. you think you’re so funny.” she laughed, pushing his arm off her shoulder. “but I’m glad that you’re here. you make much better company than my brother does.”
yukis hand dropped to her thigh, thumb gently rubbing along her jeans. “always. any time you need me, you know I’m a phone call away.”
yeah, bust she wished he was closer than even that. and if she kept staring into his dark ocean eyes, she feared she’d do something she’d regret. something impulsive and reckless and foolish but god damn would it have felt fucking good.
“y/n, you good? you’re kind of staring into space there.” yuki frowned, waving a nimble hand in front of her face, trying to capture her attention.
she chuckled. “not space, just the dashboard lights.”
“isn’t that a meat loaf song?”
she laughed, the sound coming from so deep in her chest as she turned to look at yuki. really, it shouldn’t have been that funny. all she knew was that she really, really wanted to kiss him.
she didn’t wait, lunging across the center console, hands shaking nervously as she rested them on either side of his face, pressing her chapped lips to his.
she had to hold herself back from moaning as yuki kissed her back, his warm hand caressing her sides under her open trench coat.
his touch was soft, safe, and comforting. but it was also electric, and left her wanting more when he finally pulled away for air.
“your car is probably charged”. he said nervously, blushing pink as he wiped away the saliva from his mouth. “I’d hate to kiss and run, but you probably want to get home.”
she rested her forehead against his, laughing softly as he rubbed his thumb over her wrist. “at least take me out to dinner before you kiss me and leave me hanging.”
“it’s a little late for dinner, but how does a late night caramel sundae sound?” he suggested weakly, shrugging his shoulders. mcdonalds was hardly first date material, but he knew he didn’t want this night to end, didn’t want to risk losing this magical moment.
“you drive and I’ll follow?”
“sounds good.” yuki grinned, kissing her again. “but just let me kiss you for a few more minutes to make sure that battery is well and truly charged.”
