Discovering Maui: Your Guide to Car Hire
Maui, the second-largest island in Hawaii, is renowned for its breathtaking landscapes, from pristine beaches and verdant rainforests to volcanic terrains and picturesque valleys. To explore Maui thoroughly and enjoy its hidden gems, hiring a car is highly recommended. Hereâs your comprehensive guide to car hire in Maui, ensuring a smooth and memorable adventure.
Why Hire a Car in Maui?
Public transportation in Maui is limited, and while there are taxis and shuttle services, they can be expensive and inconvenient. Hiring a car provides the flexibility to explore the island at your own pace, access remote areas, and avoid the restrictions of fixed schedules. Whether youâre visiting the bustling town of Lahaina, the serene Hana Highway, or the summit of HaleakalÄ, a car hire Maui is essential for a complete Maui experience.
Choosing the Right Car Hire
Types of Vehicles:
Economy and Compact Cars: Ideal for solo travelers or couples who plan to stay in main tourist areas like Kihei, Wailea, and Lahaina. These cars are fuel-efficient and easy to park in busy areas.
Midsize and Full-size Cars: Perfect for families or small groups, offering more space and comfort without sacrificing too much on fuel efficiency.
SUVs and 4x4s: Best suited for those planning to explore off-the-beaten-path locations, such as the Road to Hana or HaleakalÄâs summit, providing better handling and higher clearance.
Convertibles: For a quintessential Maui experience, hire a convertible to enjoy the islandâs scenic drives with the top down and the wind in your hair.
Car Hire Agencies: Maui offers a range of car hire options from well-known national brands to local companies:
National Brands: Hertz, Avis, Enterprise, and Budget. These companies offer extensive fleets and reliable service. Booking online in advance often results in better rates and availability.
Local Agencies: Kihei Rent A Car and Aloha Rent A Car. Local agencies might offer more personalized service and competitive rates, especially for longer hires.
Cost Considerations
Daily Rates: Car hire rates in Maui vary based on the season, type of vehicle, and hire duration. On average, expect to pay between $50 to $100 per day for a standard car. Booking several months in advance can help secure the best rates, particularly during peak tourist seasons (December to April and June to August).
Insurance: Insurance is a crucial aspect of car hire. Most companies offer collision damage waivers (CDW) and supplemental liability insurance (SLI). Check if your personal auto insurance or credit card covers rental cars to avoid unnecessary costs.
Additional Fees: Be aware of extra charges such as airport surcharges, taxes, fees for additional drivers, and costs for add-ons like GPS units or child seats. Clarify the fuel policyâwhether you need to return the car with a full tank or if thereâs a pre-paid fuel option.
Driving in Maui
Road Conditions: Mauiâs roads are generally well-maintained, but some routes, like the Road to Hana, can be narrow and winding with many one-lane bridges. Drive cautiously, adhere to speed limits, and pull over to let faster traffic pass.
Parking: Parking is usually accessible, with ample spaces at most beaches and attractions. However, popular areas like Lahaina can get crowded. Utilize public parking lots and avoid parking in restricted zones to prevent fines.
Local Etiquette: Hawaiians are known for their friendly and laid-back nature. Embrace the Aloha spirit by driving courteouslyâuse turn signals, yield to pedestrians, and let faster vehicles pass.
Must-See Drives in Maui
Road to Hana: This iconic drive features over 600 curves and 59 bridges, taking you through lush rainforests and past stunning waterfalls. Key stops include Twin Falls, Waiâanapanapa State Park, and the Seven Sacred Pools at Oheâo.
HaleakalÄ National Park: Drive to the summit for a breathtaking sunrise or sunset above the clouds. The road is steep and winding, so ensure your vehicle is in good condition and dress warmly.
West Maui Loop: Explore the scenic west side of the island, including the Nakalele Blowhole, Olivine Pools, and the historic town of Lahaina.
Conclusion
Hiring a car in Maui is the key to unlocking the islandâs full potential, allowing you to experience its stunning landscapes and diverse attractions on your own terms. Whether youâre embarking on the scenic Road to Hana, climbing the heights of HaleakalÄ, or simply beach-hopping along the coast, having a car hire provides the freedom and flexibility to make the most of your Maui adventure. Book your car in advance, drive safely, and embrace the Aloha spirit for an unforgettable island experience.

Today, Tomorrow and Forever
Summary: Angel Elvis went through Hell when being falsely accused of betraying God. Eventually found true love with LAPD narcotics officer B.B. King.
EpilogueÂ
Pairing: B.B. King x Elvis Presley (m/m)
Word count:Â 2.1k
Warning:Â 18+, smut, profanity
I will love you longer than forever Promise me that you will leave me never Here and now dear All my love I vow dear Promise me that you will leave me never I will love you longer than forever Now that we are one Clouds won't hide the sun Blue skies of Hawaii smile On this, our wedding day I do love you with all my heart
Elvisâ ocean blue eyes sparkled with love as he serenaded his groom with âThe Hawaiian Wedding Songâ. He and B.B. had finally tied the knot on the beautiful island of Maui over a year after the horrible car crash and ICU scare. So much had happened in the interim. B.B.âs rehab had lasted for months, but eventually he recovered fully and returned to full duty earlier than most of his colleagues had expected. It felt like a just retribution to the rejuvenated detective when he got to participate in the well-planned raid and triumphant drug bust operation at the Reapersâ East LA headquarter. Some of Mad Macâs lieutenants were fatally shot during the shootout between the police SWAT team and the gang. A substantial number of gang members were arrested, including Mad Mac himself, who had since been incarcerated for weapons and drug trafficking offences. This effectively suppressed the criminal activities of the Reapers in the county. B.B. and Clay both received special medals for their outstanding investigative work connected to this case. In the meantime, Elvis trained tirelessly and was awarded his second-degree black belt. More importantly, he was finally officially hired by the YMCA as a martial arts instructor after B.B. somehow succeeded in getting him a social security card. Slowly but surely, the couple cleared the many hurdles in their path, earning their well-deserved and long-awaited wedding honeymoon getaway in the Aloha state.Â
B.B. laid his eyes on the radiant angel standing across from him, his heart was full of joy and gratitude as he prepared to reap the fruit of their love as a newlywed for the first time. Their ceremony was intimate and discreet, with the only guests being Tina, Clay and Fats. The wedding proceedings were brief but just as if not more emotional than those of any other couple. Elvis felt so grateful that B.B. spoiled him with everything he wanted for the wedding, from the white chapel to the tasty wedding cake to the scenic locale. He was hopelessly smitten with his Gunnie, all dapper in perfectly tailored black tuxedo on their big day. Their hotel room was modest but cozy, with a balcony facing the ocean beyond a sliding door. Presently, the fading sunset was casting an orange glow over the beach dotted by palm trees. B.B. walked over and closed the curtains, being more entranced by the view within the room. He then stepped closer to his other half, placed a soft kiss on his succulent lips, and proceeded to take the purple orchid lei from around his neck. An adorable lopsided smile bloomed across Elvisâ face, he unbuttoned and peeled off B.B.âs tuxedo jacket, removing the perfectly complementary orange and white lei as well. Soon Elvisâ immaculate white tuxedo joined the groomâs black one on the backs of a pair of chairs. More pieces of clothing came off as the newlyweds lovingly undressed each other, until they bared their bodies and souls once more.Â
âOh Gunnie, I canât believe we finally made it!  Everything Iâve got is yours.â Elvis gushed as he fully embraced his man, taking in his pleasant scent, nipping lightly on his neck and jaw. B.B. ran a hand through that head of perfectly coiffed hair, then cupped his angelâs face and guided it up until their lips were locked as they tasted each other hungrily.Â
As the couple pulled away for air after the protracted kiss, B.B. whispered to Elvis: âHoney, letâs go take a shower together.â The pair of half-lidded bedroom eyes blinked a few times: âGreat idea, why didnât I think of that?â B.B. chuckled and gave in to the temptation to pinch the cheeks on that cute, dumbfounded face. He went to the bathroom and turned on the shower, then continued to make out with his baby until the water became warm enough. The sensation of warm water from the shower head hitting his fatigued muscles was so relaxing that Elvis let out a satisfied sigh. B.B. gently massaged the back of his neck and upper back, not forgetting to stroke the delicate feathers on his wing stumps making the angel moan audibly. The newlyweds then lathered each otherâs hair with shampoo and each otherâs bodies with shower gel. While supposedly scrubbing their backs, neither of them could resist feeling the other up and down sensually. All the passionate caresses and rubbing naturally led to excitement in the nether regions. Elvis took his husbandâs half-mast cock in his hand, pumped it a few times before kneeling down and licking all along it. The organ quickly swelled to its full size as B.B. was transfixed by the sight of cerulean eyes gazing up into his own while plump lips enveloped around him. In fact, B.B. didnât think he could ever get used to the spell Elvis seemed to cast on him during intimacy. He could feel those elegant hands holding on tightly to his hips and pulling his torso closer and closer, until that chiseled nose was practically touching his pubis. B.B. buried his hands in Elvisâ wet hair, throwing his own head back as waves of pleasure traversed his body. As his arousal grew, groans started to escape B.B.âs mouth involuntarily. They kept getting louder until turning into a shout as he bucked up forcibly and ejected his full load deep down the throat of his ready and willing spouse. Elvis licked B.B.âs cock lovingly while warm water rained down on his face, washing away the stray tears at the corners of his eyes. Still panting from his orgasm, B.B. pulled Elvis up to his feet and pressed their lips together for another round of tender kisses.
Before the shower water had a chance to turn lukewarm, the inseparable pair shut it off and opened the sliding door. They quickly toweled each other dry, and Elvis was about to tie a piece of linen around his waist and walk over to bed when a nudge from behind sent him forward towards the sinks: âHoney, look in the mirror. Want me to take you from behind here?â Elvis looked in front of him as he was told and saw a sizable mirror just above the side-by-side double sinks. Through the slowly vanishing steam, he could see the reflection of B.B.âs possessive arms caging him in against the vanity top and sultry lips grazing over his ear lobe. Elvis blushed: âSure Gunnie, you can take me however you want.â B.B. felt his member getting harder again hearing such obedient response from his angel. âStay.â He commanded as he walked to the other room to retrieve a tube of lubricant. Once returned, B.B. coated his fingers with copious amount of clear gel and patiently stretched Elvis out. The angel accommodated his husband by bending partially forward and supported his upper body by pushing against the countertop. It didnât take much for B.B.âs cock to perk up fully again, and with a grunt he entered the raven-haired beauty from behind. He enjoyed the view of flushing skin across that angelic face and how it spread down to the chest from arousal. B.B. then lifted one of Elvisâ long and perfectly proportioned legs over the vanity top, allowing more access to his thrusting. The different angle intensified the stimulation and pleasure that much more for Elvis, he made a breathy whimper and reached back for a kiss while B.B. caressed his neck down to his chest with one hand. Their tongues entangled while their torsos remained joined, grinding against each other in perfect harmony. Once their lips parted, B.B. picked up the pace and intensity of his lovemaking. Concurrently, Elvis' breaths grew more and more uneven from the overwhelming sensation of fiery bliss. From the mirrorâs reflection, B.B. admired the alluring view of his angel lost in lust and pleasure, with his back arching and eyes closed, long lashes casting a shadow against his cheeks. B.B. made Elvis gasp when he slid one hand down the soft and smooth skin over his babyâs lower abdomen and took a firm hold of his erection. As the large and warm hand stroked the member vigorously, making use of precum and residual lube on the fingers, Elvis sobbed out: âPlease Gunnie! I canât hold it no more!â B.B. used one arm to clench Elvis against his chest, while the other hand kept pumping faster: âBaby, donât hold back, just come for me!â  Hardly a minute later, the young man shuddered and pearly white essence sprayed across his chest and belly.Â
B.B. thrusted for a bit longer as Elvis came down from his climax. When the young man started to slump against the unyielding grip that was holding him up from behind, B.B. pulled out his member and turned Elvis around, allowing him to rest on the vanity top for a brief minute. Elvis leaned back against the mirror, catching his breath as his other half quickly wiped away the spent from his trunk with a damp towel. B.B. pulled Elvis into an embrace, letting the young man circle both arms around his neck and legs around his back. His hands squeezed those plump and peachy buttocks, slipping under them to find purchase: âHang on tight honey, Iâm carrying you over to bed.â As B.B. started to straighten up, Elvis tightened his hold instinctively and wrapped around his husband like a python around a tree, gently reminding him: âCareful Gunnie, donât hurt your back!â.
âBelieve me honey, I ainât that old yet!â B.B. joked as he swooped up his baby and walked over to bed. Elvis let out a shriek as he was thrown onto the sheets and bounced amongst some pillows. B.B. wasted no time to pounce on his delicious meal, pulling him to the edge of the bed. He stood over Elvis, holding his feet up in the air, spreading his legs wide apart, then inserted his cock and picked up where he left off. Looking up at his man, robust muscles covered with a thin layer of shiny sweat, descending upon him like some ancient hedonistic deity, Elvis had to hold back happy tears as he took everything he was given. All the while B.B. was living out his dreams, kissing his angel on the calves and inner thighs between intense pounding sessions. Finally he was overtaken by a tide of ecstasy as he stuttered to a stop with a loud grunt, burying deep inside his sweet lover. Elvis pulled his man down into a tight hug as he relished in the sensation of seeds spilling within.
The newlyweds stayed in the same position for a while, catching their breaths, cherishing their deep physical and spiritual connection together. Then they parted briefly to scoot up the bed and cuddle more comfortably. âThat was incredible!â Elvis marveled, âlater tonight you can wake me up and we can go again!â B.B. burst out laughing: âHey babe, no rush. Weâve got plenty of time!â To hide his blush the angel responded by peppering B.B.âs chest with kisses. Silently B.B. stroked the young manâs soft hair, then all of a sudden he asked: âElvis honey, why did you give up eternal life for me?â Caught unprepared, the angel stammered for an answer: âI, I⌠Gunnie I didnât mean to keep it from youâŚâ  B.B. cupped the strikingly handsome face and looked Elvis in the eyes: âSo itâs true then. I suspected it but wasnât sure, I found some gray hairs on you recently.â Elvis admitted after a pause: âGunnie, I had to. I couldnât lose you.  Iâd always take a lifetime of lovinâ over an eternity of loneliness for sure!â âWhat about the demons?â B.B. grabbed Elvis on his shoulders and shook them a little, âHave you thought about those fuckers still scheming to catch you and harm you? You suffered a lot during your past life, I donât want you to go through that again and go to an early grave!â Unfazed, the corners of Elvisâ mouth started to pull up into that good-natured lopsided smile again: âDonât worry darlinâ. My goal is to be with you from today until forever, God granted that to me and thatâs all I need. During my past life I felt responsible for too many people, parents, relatives, friends, fans. I never found the one true love. In this life I found you, my mission is complete. Iâll devote this life and beyond to you alone.â Tears started to track down B.B.âs face as he hugged his sweetheart again: âYou silly bean, I donât know what to do with you! But Iâll promise you this, Iâll live this life and the next for you just as you will for meâŚâ A flurry of kisses drowned out his vows as the lovebirds locked their lips again and again.

Not Friends
Summary: Itâs time for a wedding! Sam and Jess are getting married and Dean needs someone to pretend to be his girlfriend in front of his family. Good thing his friend Y/N is willing to help. Pairing: Dean x Reader // Sam x Jess Word count: 8,846 Warnings: fluff, fake dating, nudity (but itâs barely there), waxing A/N: this was writen for âSPN Bi-Weekly Writing Challengeâ hosted by the darling @supernatural-jackles. There are 7 prompts in this one and theyâre all in bold. Hope yâall enjoy!
âI still donât get why you asked me to do this. Iâm not a professional,â you mumbled. âSince itâs the first time youâre doing this, you  really shouldâve gone to a professional.â
âI know, I know,â Jess sighed, taking another gulp of the wine. âI lost track of time and forgot to set an appointment. Itâs just that Sam is planning something special for this weekend. I wanted to look nice.â
âYouâve been together for nearly five years, Jess. The guy asked you to marry him. And knowing him, he doesnât mind if you wax or trim or do nothing down there.â
âI know he doesnât. But Iâm not just doing this for him. Iâm doing this for me,â she said. âDoes it hurt?â
âA little,â you shrugged. âAlright, now lay down.â
Jess did as told, placing her glass on the nightstand. She was naked from the waist down, a white towel covered her lady bits. You could see it on her face that she was nervous. It would be better if she was a little drunk for you to do this.
âMove the towel so we can get going,â you asked, holding a popsicle with a large blob of yellow wax.
She gritted her teeth and her breath was caught in her throat when you spread the burning wax over the top of her mound. Jess clenched her eyes shut.
âWe shouldnât do this. Iâm already regretting it.â
âYouâll be fine, Jess. Trust me.â
Jess took in a deep breath, relaxing a little.
âBefore I do this, I need you to know that I have always loved you,â you said before pulling the strip off.
âFuck!â She nearly screamed, sitting up straight.
âHere,â you offered her the bottle of wine. âSee? It wasnât that bad.â
âIt wasnât that bad?â Her blue eyes widened. âIt was worse than I expected.â
âYou know that weâre not finished, right?â
âI know,â she cried, taking another gulp of the whine and finishing the bottle.
Jess laid back and you repeated the process. She winced once again.
âAnd to think I was gonna ask you to be my maid of honor.â
âYou were what?â You exclaimed.
âWell, I was gonna ask you properly next week and it was gonna be beautiful, but I guess I ruined everything.â
âI canât believe you chose me to be your maid of honor,â you couldnât stop the big smile to spread over your lips, happy tears welled in your eyes.
âReally?â She smiled. âI thought it was kinda obvious.â
âOf course not! I was sure you were gonna ask one of your sisters.â
âY/N, we both know that none of them would be able to help organize a wedding.â
âIâm truly honored, Jess,â you hugged her. âGod, youâre gonna have the wedding of your dreams.â
âI love you, Y/N/N.â
âI love you too.â
Three years ago, Sam proposed to Jess. You still remember the day when she came running to your place to tell you everything and show the beautiful diamond ring on her finger. She was truly happy. Her blue eyes held a glisten you had never seen before. You were happy for her.
Jess wanted a big wedding. She had enough money to throw a magnificent ceremony. Sam was a bit worried about how they would afford it so they decided to wait to get married. They worked out on a budget and started saving money. Both of them had established jobs; Sam as a lawyer and Jess as a prosecutor. They saved enough money to have their dream wedding. Twice.
You helped Jess organize everything. You hired one of the best wedding planners in the U.S. and they were perfect. Jess was on cloud nine. She still had some stress, but in the end, she reminded herself that everything would be okay. She was nervous people wouldnât come because it was a destination wedding. Sam and Jess picked Maui, Hawaii for their ceremony. More specifically, Makena Cove Beach. So she saved extra money to pay for the guestsâ staying at a resort. It was a damn expensive wedding.
Jess was born into a wealthy family. They never had to worry about money. Good thing they werenât snobs. Her parents insisted on paying for hers and the bridesmaidsâ dresses. They paid yours too. They even wanted to pay for Samâs tuxedo, but John and Mary wouldnât have it. Her parents wanted to help. Their oldest daughter was getting married and they wanted to give her everything. It was nice of them. Jess and Sam were glad for their willingness to help, but they also wanted to be more independent and bear the expenses.
Sam wasnât born into a rich family, but the Winchesters werenât poor either. John owned a law firm in Lawrence and Mary owned a bakery. They couldnât assist as much as Jessâ parents, but they managed to help out anyway.
October 24th was getting closer and closer. You were so excited about their wedding day. Seeing them so radiant was priceless. They deserved all the happiness in the world. With less than one week left for the ceremony, you had to do the last touch-ups for the reception. That includes finishing your speech.
You had never thought youâd enjoy organizing a wedding this much. Thanks to you and the bridesmaid team, Jess had an epic bachelorette party. And poor Sam had to deal with the bachelor party Dean threw for him. It was a nice party, of course, but Sam wasnât the kind of guy that enjoyed being around strippers. The bridal shower was fun too and she got lots of nice gifts.
Dean, the best man and your best friend, was doing everything he could to support his brother. He even went out with Sam to buy his tuxedo.
âHey Claire,â you grinned walking into the car shop.
âHi Y/N,â she smiled. âDean said you were coming. Heâs in the back.â
âThanks, darling.â
Winchesterâs Auto Shop. Dean was passionate about cars since he was a little kid. He became a mechanic and after years of hard work, he opened his own shop. You were proud of him. Seeing him conquer so much in his life only made you love your best friend even more.
âHey you,â grinning, you spotted Dean underneath his car.
âHey, sweetheart,â he said, struggling with whatever he was doing to the muscle car.
âWhy are you working on Baby?â You nudged his feet.
âHad to replace the pipe,â he said before standing up to meet you. His grey shirt and denim jeans covered in grease. âAnd done.â
Your fingers trailed over the shining hood. Dean circled the car and started the engine. The impala roared to life, a purr following.
âThere you go, Baby,â a wide smile spread on his lips. He turned off the ignition and took a step back, contemplating the beauty of his most precious possession. âIsnât she beautiful?â
âYeah, Dean, she is,â you rolled your eyes playfully. âAlright, why did you call me here?â
âWe can talk in my office,â he suggested. âWith chairs and AC.â
You nodded and followed him to his office. He opened the door and you rushed to the comfortable chair in front of his desk. There was something about his office that was very homey. It made you feel at ease.
Dean headed to the mini-fridge and picked a couple of beers for the two of you. He sat on his desk, handing your beverage. You frowned at him, taking a gulp. He seemed tense.
âAlright, Winchester, spill.â
âI, uh, I know this kinda seems out of the blue and that I shouldâve talked to you sooner, but,â he stopped his rambling and only made you more anxious.
âBut?â You arched your eyebrow, waiting for him to continue.
âI just need you to do this one little thing for me,â his pleading green eyes held your gaze.
âAnd that isâŚâ
âFake date me?â His lips curled into a weak smile as his brows furrowed, voice full of uncertainty.
âSure,â you shrugged. âBut why?â
âMy parents are gonna be at Samâs wedding and I donât want them to pick on me for not having someone, you know?â His eyes fell to his lap, the beer in his hand untouched. âI mean, Samâs their youngest and heâs getting married. I donât even have a girlfriend. âSides, you know everything there is to know about me so it would be easier for them to buy it. You sure you wanna do it?â
âIâm sure, Dean,â you smiled at him, placing your hand over his. Green eyes looked up to meet you. âThereâs nothing wrong about being single at your age. And if your parents think otherwise, screw them.â
âThanks, Y/N/N.â
âYouâre lucky, you know?â
âAnd whyâs that?â He took a large gulp of his beer.
âYouâre gonna get to kiss me anytime you want,â you shrugged. âJust a heads up, people say Iâm a pro at that.â
âGuess Iâm gonna have to find that out myself,â he winked at you.
A comfortable silence fell in the room. Both of you nursed your beers isolated in your worlds.
âDid you finish your speech?â You asked.
âYeah. It turned out really good actually. Did you finish yours?â
âNot yet,â you sighed. âIâm still trying to figure out how not to cry when I read it.â
Dean chuckled, standing up and putting on his blue flannel.
âIâm done for the day. Do you need a ride?â You nodded in response. âYou going to Rockyâs or home?â
âRockyâs,â you sighed in frustration as you headed to the door. âGotta make up for the time Pam is gonna cover for me.â
âI thought you were gonna close the bar while we are in Hawaii.â
âI was, but Pam thought it was better to keep it open. She has way more experience in running a bar so I decided to go by her.â
Dean opened the door to the impala for you before getting behind the steering wheel. He turned the ignition and Babyâs loud purr filled your ears.
âI donât get why weâre traveling tomorrow already,â he whined. âThe wedding is only Saturday. We could hop on the plane on Thursday.â
âCâmon, Iâm the maid of honor. In case anything goes wrong, Iâm there,â you explained. âAnd you, Winchester, are the best man. You gotta help me.â
The ride to the bar was mostly quiet, saved for the sound of one of Deanâs cassettes. The night was falling and you were glad the bar closed at 10pm tonight. Dean pulled up in the driveway. You couldnât find it in you to get out of the car and go to work. Monday nights were always dead and thatâs way worse than having a busy night. The time just didnât seem to pass.
âDo you want me to pick you up?â
âNah, Iâm good,â you smiled. âThanks, Dean,â you leaned and pecked his stubbled cheek.
âTake care, sweetheart.â
You hopped out of the car, making your way to the bar. Every time he dropped you off at work or at home, heâd wait for you to come in then heâd head out. Tonight was no different.
âY/N,â you turned and found Dean leaning on his seat. âDo you want to meet me at the airport or I pick you up and we head to the airport?â
âPick me up,â you smiled. âEight sharp, Dean.â
âAlrighty,â his lips curled into a smile. âNight, sweetheart.â
âNight, Dean-o.â
ââââ
âUgh, Iâm so, so tired,â you grumbled, plopping down onto the airplane seat.
âHmm, me too.â Â
Dean reclined his chair, his eyes were already closed. The plane hadnât even taken off and he was almost asleep.
âDean,â your voice was ever so soft.
âHmm,â he blinked an eye open to take a peek at your pleading face.
âIâm cold.â
âAlright, câmere,â he sneaked his arm around you, pulling you closer to his body. Your head laying on his chest. âBetter?â
âBetter.â
âYou arenât cold, are you?â
âNot really,â you chuckled. âJust love some snuggle before falling asleep. And I know that planes make you uncomfortable. So I hope this helps.â
âIt does,â you could hear the smile in his voice. âNow go to sleep.â
You and Dean slept through almost the entire flight. You called a cab and made your way to the resort you were staying at. Sam and Jess wanted to pay for yours and Deanâs stay, but you insisted on paying yourselves. They would already cover for most of the guests either way. Money would be a little tight this month, but it was worth it. It was your best friendâs wedding for Christâs sake.
âAre you sure weâre at the right place?â You asked Dean as you both stood awestruck in front of the resort with your bags in hands.
âUh-huh,â he swallowed thickly.
âThis is so fancy. I donât think I know how to behave in a place like this.â
âI donât think I do either,â he chuckled.
You went to the reception and got the keys to your room. A gasp left your lips as you stepped inside. The room seemed to shine before your eyes. It was out of this world. The sprawling leather couch in front of the fifty inches tv had your breath hitching in your throat. Â
âOh my God, look at this view,â you let go of the bags and walked to the floor-to-ceiling windows.
The palm trees and the crystal blue water were a sight to behold. Sam and Jess had picked a beautiful place to get married.
âY/N, come here,â Dean called from where you assumed to be the bathroom.
âWow,â your eyes widened as they landed on the enormous bathtub. âI could easily drown in there.â
Your fingers roamed over the counter. Everything was in marble and hand-crafted tiles. Everything was magnificent and fancy. As well as the bath, the power shower was huge. Oh, the jacuzzi.
âIâm never leaving this room,â said Dean. âSam can find another best man.â
âSee? Thatâs one of the reasons why we came earlier.â
The cream Egyptian cotton sheets covering the king-sized bed made it difficult not to jump on and take a nap. You set on the edge, your body almost melting.
âOh god, itâs memory foam.â
Deanâs lips curled into a smile as he watched you close your eyes. You were enjoying way too much. Your palms were flat on the mattress, taking in all its softness.
âI can sleep on the couch if you want,â he suggested.
âDonât be silly. This bed is big enough for both of us. Plus, itâs not gonna be the first time we share a bed, fake boyfriend,â you shot him a wink. âNow if you donât mind, Iâm gonna hop in the shower. Iâm disgusting.â
âYou go,â he nodded. âIâll text Sam to let them know we arrived safe.â
âYou do that,â you smiled, picking your clothes from the suitcase. âAlso, can you call the ceremonial? Let her know that weâre here and weâd like to meet her today,â you asked before entering the bathroom.Â
âWill do.â
Steam filled the room as you cut the shower on. The water poured on your body, massaging your tense muscles. You bathed quickly. You had a lot of things to do before Sam and Jess arrived.
The afternoon flew by you. Barbara, the ceremonial, had everything perfectly mapped out. Her team would arrive on Thursday. That would give them plenty of time to wrap up the last details of the rehearsal dinner and the ceremony.
You and Dean finished your speeches. It would be hard to hold back the tears. You spent the rest of the day mostly in the room. Both of you were still too tired to wander around the resort. The following morning, after having a delicious breakfast, you and Dean explored the resort.
Turned out that Dean isnât that good at the tennis table. At least now you had something to hold against him. Then he kicked your ass at pool and darts. That wasnât nice.
You spent most of the afternoon at the pool. Dean was a bit annoyed at first because he didnât want to apply sunscreen. He said he didnât need it. Boy, that pissed you off. If he wanted to look like a shrimp at his brotherâs wedding, then he didnât need it after all. Dean could be as stubborn as a mule when he wanted to. But he gave in and applied it. He was even embarrassed to ask you to apply it on his back.
Sam and Jess were on their way. You were excited about their arrival. You couldnât wait to show her around the resort. Unfortunately, they arrived late at night. You just stopped by their room to check on them before going to bed. They were extremely tired. They had worked all morning and flew by lunchtime.
Dean was in bed, searching through the channels when you stepped into the room. His hair was a little wet, spiking in multiple directions. You plopped yourself down beside him, already in your pajamas.
âMy mom and dad are on the plane right now,â he grumbled, his eyes fixated on the screen.
âThatâs good.â
âTheyâre gonna be here tomorrow morning,â Dean added. âAnd they want to have lunch. You, me, Sam and Jess.â
âGuess itâs happening then, huh?â
âYeah,â he sighed.
âDo they know that youâre âwithâ me?â you glanced up at him.
âMmhmm,â he turned his attention to you. âI didnât say your name âcause I knew there was a chance you wouldnât want to do this.â
âGuess Iâm gonna meet your parents, boyfriend,â you grinned.
âYou are,â Dean chuckled and you yawned.
âGood night, Dean,â you pressed a light kiss to his cheek.
âNight, sweetheart.â
You turned on your stomach, right leg hiking up as the other stood straight. Your arm was tucked under the pillow. The room went completely quiet as Dean turned off the tv. You found it odd that he remained sat instead of going to sleep.
âY/N/N?â His voice was unsure and as quiet as a whisper.
âHmm?â
âYou awake?â
âNo, Iâm dead,â Dean shook his head, a chuckle leaving his lips. âWhatâs up, Dean?â You turned on your back to face him. He laid on his side and you did the same.
âYou sure you wanna do this?â
âIâm sure, Dean,â you reassured him, fingers making their way to play with his hair. âItâs bad that Iâm gonna lie to your parents the first time I meet them. But Iâm doing this for you. Don't overthink this, Dean.â
âI love you, you know that?â
âOh, I donât think I do,â you teased.
âAh, shut up,â he chuckled.
âI love you too.â
âI know you do,â he smiled, his warm hand came up to your cheek, knuckles caressing your skin. A trail of goosebumps wandering through your body. âSleep tight, sweetheart,â his lips met your forehead, lingering a little bit longer than usual.
He turned his back to you, shifting in his sleeping position. His hand reached for the bedside lamp and turned it off. You were facing the back of his head, breath still caught in your throat. You shook your head and turned to your side, waiting for the sleepiness that seemed to have faded.
Sunshine invaded the room. The curtains didnât put any resistance on keeping the room dark. The orange glow made you clamp your eyes, before fluttering it open. You blinked a few times to adjust to the bright daylight. A heavyweight in your middle made you frown. Then you became more aware of your surroundings and realized what it was. Deanâs arm was draped over your waist, his knees tucked into yours. His chest was pressed flush to your back. You took in deep breaths. It was not the first time youâd shared a bed. But he has never been this close.
âMorning,â his voice sounded hoarse from sleep. Dean nuzzled into your neck, a shiver ran down your spine, his arm tightening around you.
âGood morning,â you beamed, voice a little husky.
âDonât wanna get up,â he whined.
âMe neither,â you mumbled. âBut Iâve got so much to do today.â
âNo, you donât. You have lunch with my parents and rehearsal dinner tonight. Other than that youâre free to spend the whole morning asleep.â
âYeah, but I canât. Iâve gotta talk to Jess about some things. Especially about our fake dating thing.â
âIâve told Sam so she probably already knows.â
âYouâre right,â you nodded. âThank god I was able to set up a massage session for us after lunch.â
âWeâre getting a massage?â You couldnât see, but you were sure his eyes had lightened up like a Christmas tree.
âNot us, silly,â you chuckled. âMe and Jess.â
âYouâre the worst.â
âIf I had set it up for us, youâd hit on the masseuse and turn that into porn.â
âNo, I wouldnât,â his voice raised about an octave. âI would fall asleep the second she touched me.â
âYeah, yeah, of course, you would,â you scoffed.
âWhy canât we just go back to sleep? Iâm tired,â he pleaded, burying his face in the curve of your neck. âYouâre so comfy.â
He pulled you closer to him. Your body tensed as you felt a hardness against your ass.
âDean, you, uh,â he noticed you stiffen in his hold.
âOh, crap,â he pulled away as if your skin burned him. âShit. Sorry. I, uh, I didnât mean to-â
âItâs okay. Thatâs normal, Dean. I know it wasnât on purpose or because you were, uh, you know.â
âSorry.â
âItâs okay. I mean it,â you smiled sympathetically. âNow go get changed so we can have breakfast. I promised Jess Iâd meet her in an hour.â
Sam decided to have breakfast with you while Jess was at a yoga class. Since theyâd decided on a date to get married, Jess started to hit the gym and go to yoga classes. She wanted to be in her best shape on her wedding day. It wound up becoming more of a way to relieve stress than anything else.
âHave you two come up with a story for mom and dad?â Sam asked.
âWhat do you mean?â Dean frowned at his brother, stuffing the last bite of his croissant in his mouth.
âTheyâre gonna ask you how you met, how long you met each other, how long youâve been together, whereâd you go on your first date-â
âNah, theyâre not gonna ask,â Dean shook his head. âTheyâre gonna focus on you and Jess.â
âDude, you only introduced them to a girl once. And that was a long time ago. Of course, theyâre gonna want to know more of you and Y/N. Take it from me. When I brought Jess home, mom wouldnât stop asking questions. You know how she gets excited.â
âLeave it for me,â you said after taking a sip of your coffee. âIâm good at improv.â
âYour stories need to match.â
âIâm just gonna tell them the truth and change some bits. Add more romance. And voila. Dean and Y/Nâs love story.â
âIf you blow it, Iâm gonna tell them you brainwashed me,â Dean warned you.
âChill, Dean-o,â you bumped his shoulder. âI got everything under control.â
âââ
âMom and dad, this is Y/N,â Dean motioned to you.
âOh, itâs so nice to finally meet you,â Mary squealed, wrapping her arms around. Your eyes widened at her reaction. She squeezed you and you hugged her back.
âNice to meet you too, Mrs. Winchester.â
âOh, please, call me Mary,â she said, pulling away and offering you a smile.
âSo we finally meet the great Y/N, huh,â John grinned, a heat crept on your cheeks.
âNice to meet you, Mr. Winchester,â you smiled.
âCall me John, kid.â
âRight.â
Dean pulled out the chair for you to sit and sat beside you. Mary and John were at each head of the table.
âOh, Y/N, we heard so much about you,â Mary smiled.
âYou did?â Your surprise couldnât even be hidden. You glanced at Dean and he shrugged with a head tilt.
âOf course we did. This guy wouldnât stop talking about you so itâs nice to finally put a face to the name.â
âYou got him wrapped around your finger, kiddo,â said John.
You smiled sheepishly. The table fell into a comfortable silence as you looked through te menu, deciding to have the same as Dean.
âSam, are you nervous about tomorrow?â Mary grinned.
âYeah,â he smiled.
âI canât wait for tomorrow,â Jessâ eyes shone every time she mentioned her wedding.
âJess, I canât wait to see your dress,â Mary grinned.
âOh, itâs the most beautiful dress Iâve ever seen.â
âYouâve seen it?â Maryâs blue eyes widened at you.
âNot only have I seen it, but I was there when she bought it. Youâre gonna love it.â
âY/N is my maid of honor.â
âReally? Thatâs great!â
âWeâve known each other since kindergarten. She was the one to introduce me to Sam,â she smiled. âSheâs my other half.â
Jess extended her hand across the table, linking your fingers.
âHey!â Sam feigned offense. She chuckled and pecked his lips into a sweet kiss.
âDean, honey, youâre awfully quiet today,â his mom said softly.
Dean looked up from his dish, his mouth full. Smiling at him, you reached for his hair. His shoulders were tense and he had barely said a word since you sat to eat.
âOh, heâs just afraid youâre gonna like me better than him.â
Everyone laughed and you heard a small chuckle escape his lips. He was tense and even a little nervous. You could understand that. Dean was afraid his parents wouldnât buy your story. That would be the worst.
The table was filled with laughter. Mary did most of the talking. She asked Sam and Jess a lot of questions about their wedding. You could hear how happy she was from the way she talked. You were surprised she didnât question you about your relationship with Dean.
âSo, Y/N,â Mary turned to you.
âOh boy, here we go,â you straighten your posture, taking a deep breath. Everyone laughed at your response.
âPlease, Y/N, tell me about you and Dean. I need all the details,â her pleading blue eyes only made a stain of guilt appear on your stomach. âNo, not all the details. Those you can keep to yourself.â
âMom,â Dean nearly whined, a shade of pink coloring his cheeks.
âUgh, gross,â John chuckled.
âWhere can I startâŚâ you needed to articulate your thoughts so the story would be convincing enough for them to believe. âAbout six years ago, I was driving home from my parents' house and my car broke down. I called⌠what was the name again?â You asked Dean.
âJamieâs auto shop.â
âRight. I called James's auto shop and waited for the guy. The guy took way too long. It was dark and there was no one on the road. I thought I was gonna be eaten by wolves-â
âJust to be clear, there are no wolves in Lebanon, Kansas,â he interrupted you.
âYou donât know that,â you spat at him and he shrugged. âAs I was saying, the guy took so long I thought he was coming on foot. It turned down he wasnât. He was just driving like my grandma,â Dean had to bite down a laugh as he shook his head. âThen he climbed out of the car. The moment I saw those piercing green eyes, I knew I was a goner. And all those things you see in movies like the heart beating out of your chest, butterflies in your stomach. I felt all that stuff. And he was a gentleman. He made sure to drive me home. He fixed my car and gave me a really nice discount.â
âAre you telling me that it took him six years to introduce you to us?â Maryâs blue eyes were wide under arched brows.
âIf it makes you feel better it took him five years to ask me on a date,â you shrugged.
Mary kept on asking about yours and Deanâs relationship. Some things were easier to answer. Others not much. Your palms started to sweat when questions started to get a little more personal. She wanted to know more about you. She asked about your family and what you did for a living. Your voice started to waver. You didnât want to tell her that you owned a bar. A part of you feared what sheâd think of you once you told her about your job. Hell, not even your parents liked the idea. What would she think of you? And why did you feel like you needed her approval?
âI, uh, I-â you couldnât find the words to say, your mind was hazy and your thoughts seemed to have disappeared.
Dean must have noticed because you felt a warm hand reaching for your thigh. His touch was reluctant, but soothing. He squeezed your skin softly, reminding you that he was there.
âCâmon, mom. Itâs been years since I presented you to a girl and now youâre trying to scare her off?â His arm sneaked around your back, bringing your body closer to his. âThis one was so damn hard to find. And thereâs still time for her to get sick of me and dump me. But youâre not gonna do that, right sweetheart?â You shook your head, a smile spreading over your lips. âGood,â Dean pressed a kiss to your temple and you relaxed instantly.
âIâm sorry, Y/N,â Mary apologized.
âItâs okay. You can ask me whatever you want.â
âBut not today,â Dean stared at his mother, his voice almost sounded like a warning. âHell, ask Jess all the questions. She canât run away from Sam anymore. I mean, technically she still can-â
âDude, donât give her any ideas,â Sam played along.
âAnyways, it was lovely to meet you guys, but Y/N and I have a couples massage session in one hour back at the resort. We should get going,â Dean lied, he wanted to get you out of there as soon as possible. He was afraid his parents would make you uncomfortable again.
You hugged them and headed out of the restaurant. John and Mary would head back to their hotel while Sam and Jess were going to meet the ceremonial. They needed to go over a few things for the rehearsal dinner tonight.
âDo you want me to call a cab or do you want to walk back to the resort?â He asked.
âWe can walk,â you shrugged.
âOkay,â he wrapped his arm around your shoulders, bringing you closer to him. âIâm sorry about that.â
âDonât worry, itâs fine. Iâve had it worse,â you brushed it off as if it didnât matter.
âOf course itâs not fine. She shouldnât have asked you so many questions. And she shouldnât have made you feel uncomfortable.â
âItâs okay, Dean. She was just making sure you were with someone decent.â
âWell, sheâs anything but decent.â
âDean,â you scolded. âSheâs your mother. Donât talk about her like that.â
He only shrugged. The rest of the way was quiet. You were in front of the resort in no time. Your phone buzzed in your pocket. Jess. Sheâd meet you in your room in fifteen minutes then youâd head down to the spa.
You decided to take a shower before meeting her. The water helped ease the tension in your shoulders. You headed out of the bathroom and found Dean laying in bed. His ankles crossed as he flipped through the channels.
âYou owe me a couples massage session,â he mumbled.
âYou wish, Winchester,â you rolled your eyes. âAlright, Iâll be back in an hour or so, do I meet you here or you have plans with Sam?â
âSam and I are gonna hit the bar.â
âOkay,â you nodded. âDonât drink too much and remember, mister, you have a girlfriend. So donât go around hitting on chicks.â
âIâd never do that,â he winked. âNow go get your massage and see if you learn something from them so you can give me the best back massage ever.â
âKeep on dreaming, Dean.â
You met Jess at the spa. The masseuses handed you your robes and waited for you to get changed. The moment the woman started to pour her scented oils on your skin, you melted.
âSo what has gotten into Mary anyway?â Jess asked. âShe wasnât too rude, but there was no reason for her to ask you all that stuff.â
âI donât know,â you sighed. âI mean, she just wants the best for her son but I felt like I was being interrogated.â
âYeah, I know,â she smiled sympathetically. âI had to kick Dean under the table so heâd do something,â you chuckled. âMen are so freaking dumb sometimes.â
âYeah, they are,â you sighed. âJess? Can I ask you a question?â
âOf course you can.â
âDoes Dean seem different to you?â
âI havenât spent much time with him lately, but he seems the same to me.â
âAre you sure he hasnât been acting any different?â
âI am, Y/N. Now where is this coming from?â
âHeâs just been very affectionate lately.â
âAffectionate?â
âYeah. Heâs just, uh- I mean, he always cared for me. Dean is so caring. But lately I feel like something might have changed.â
âAnd why is that?â
âWeâre sleeping on the same bed. Itâs not new. We used to have sleepovers and share a bed all the time, but weâd never cuddle or anything. Today, I woke up and he was spooning me. He was so close. His body was pressed against mine, his head buried in my neck. Then I felt his thing,â you blushed and Jess chuckled. âNot to mention that last night before we went to sleep he was a little weird. His hand was on my cheek and he was staring at me as if he could see my soul. Then he kissed my forehead and it lasted longer than it usually does. Now I donât know if Iâm overthinking this or not. Iâm just a little confused.
âYou like him, Y/N,â Jessâ smile reached her eyes.
âOf course I do, heâs my best friend.â
âNo, Y/N, you really like him.â
âAre you not hearing me? Heâs my best friend. Of course I really like him.â
âAre you dumb or what? I mean love, Y/N. And not in a friendly way. I mean passion.â
âPfft, youâre delusional.â
âYou know Iâm not.â
Silence fell in the room. You did your best to focus on the pressure of the masseuse's fingers pressing and pulling at your skin. The things Jess just said wouldnât stop crossing  your mind. You knew she was wrong. You and Dean were just friends. But what if she was right?
You walked back to your room and figured Dean was in the shower. You walked to the window and opened. The soothing breeze hitting your skin ever so gently, sending goosebumps throughout your body.
âYouâre back,â Dean beamed.
You turned to him. He was in jeans and a fitted grey t-shirt. His wet hair spiked in every possible direction.
âI am,â you smiled. âHow was it to hit the bar with Sam?â You asked when you felt his presence beside you. Just like that, it became really hard to have a casual conversation with him.
âIt was alright,â he chuckled. âHow was the massage?â
âBest thing that ever happened to me,â you groaned in pleasure as you remembered how good it felt.
âBetter than meeting me?â
âAlmost,â you chuckled.
Dean moved behind you. His arms wrapped around your middle, his chest pressed flush against your back. You stiffened at first, but you couldnât help but melt into his touch.
âYou smell good,â he leaned to your neck. His gravel voice was barely upon a whisper. The feeling of his hot breath against your skin sent shivers down your spine.
You tried to focus on anything but the feeling of having him this close. Your eyes were fixated on the blue sea, on the way the waves crashed onto the shore. But it was impossible.
âHmmm, really good,â he nearly moaned.
Then you remembered. He had a few drinks with Sam a bit earlier. This was the alcohol talking.
Dean turned you in his arms, his green eyes stared deep into your soul. The air seemed to have become thicker. Or maybe he was just too close. His eyes wandered to your lips. He leaned his head, his breath mingling with yours. You pulled away quickly, clearing your throat. Dean seemed to realize what was happening and turned his head. His eyes falling on the calm, blue waves.
âWe should, uh, we should probably get ready,â you suggested.
âYeah. Yeah, sure,â he nodded. âIâm, uh, Iâm gonna get dressed in the bathroom.â
Dean grabbed his clothes and locked himself in the bathroom. You heard the water from the sink running. What was that? Was he out of his mind? He must have been. If you hadnât pulled away when you did, he would have⌠no, he wouldnât. He couldnât do that. He was your best friend. He just got a little carried away by the alcohol and the scent of the oils that previously bathed your skin.
You put on light makeup. Just a concealer, a thin coat of foundation and mascara. You picked the dress from the hanger and put it on. The navy blue dress fitted perfectly in your body. It hit your midthighs and seemed appropriate for the occasion.
The sound of the door unlocking echoed through the silent room. Dean got out of the bathroom all dressed up. His suit hugged his body just the right way.
âCan you help me?â You asked.
âSure.â
âI canât zip it. Can you do it for me?â
Dean nodded, standing beside you. The soft skin of his fingers touched your skin slightly as he zipped the dress. A different kind of electricity ran through your body.
âThanks,â you smiled as you turned to him. âDo you want me toâŚâ you motioned to the tie in his hand.
âYeah, sure.â
You tied his silky red tie, smoothing itâs length. His eyes were roaming around the room, looking anywhere but you. Adjusting the collar of his shirt, you felt his gaze on you. You donât know how much time you spent staring into each otherâs eyes, but after a while he cleared his throat, breaking the trance.
âYou ready?â
âMmhmm,â you nodded, grabbing your purse and slipping into your heels. âShall we?â
You headed out of the room and walked down the street. The restaurant Sam and Jess picked was close to the resort. So you wouldnât get tired of going on foot.
âHold my hand, we gotta make this look convincing, remember?â You smiled.
His warm hand took a hold of yours before stepping into the restaurant. Most of the people were already there. Jessâ parents were so happy to see you. It had been a while since you had last seen them. Her sisters cheered when their eyes landed on you. They wouldnât stop giving you malicious looks and wiggling their eyebrows because you got the other brother.
Mary sat beside Dean. At first you were nervous sheâd try to make any questions. You knew Dean wouldnât let her do it, but you still had that feeling. That dissipated the second they started serving dinner. It was delicious and you were glad they had picked this restaurant. The room was filled with laughter and happy conversations.
After everyone had finished eating, Sam and Jess distributed gifts to their parents. They made their toasts, thanking everyone for supporting them and being there for their special day.
âIâve been waiting for dessert the whole night,â Dean leaned, whispering to you.
âMe too,â you chuckled.
âThough it would be a whole lot better if it were pie.â
They started serving the cake and you were almost drooling. Just as you took the first bite, Mary called you.
âI need to go to the restroom,â her voice was barely audible. âY/N, do you mind coming with me?â
You were a little taken aback, but agreed anyway. You knew she wanted to talk to you.
âDonât let anyone touch my cake,â you asked Dean.
You followed Mary to the restroom. You tried to look for any sign of anger on her face but it didnât show.
âIâm sorry for what I did earlier,â she smiled weakly. âI should have treated you better. I donât know what got into me.â
âMary, itâs okay. Really. You were just looking out for Dean.â
âHe loves you, you know?â You smiled. âIâve seen the way he looks at you as if you were his whole world. John used to look at me that way when we were your age.â
You didnât know what to say to her. A part of you wanted to tell her it wasnât real. He was faking it and he needed her to buy it. But another part of you wanted to believe in what she said.
âIâm glad he has someone like you, Y/N.â
âThanks, Mary,â you smiled.
God, sheâs gonna hate you if she ever finds out the truth.
âNow letâs go. Iâve stolen much of your time already.â
You made your way back to the table feeling a lot lighter.
âEverything okay?â Dean asked once you sat beside him.
âYeah,â you smiled. Finally, youâd be able to eat your cake. Except there was no cake. âWhereâs my dessert, Dean?â
âWhat?â
âWhereâs my cake?â You made sure to not speak too loud for others to hear.
âI donât know,â he sounded nervous.
âI canât believe you ate my cake.â
âNo, I didnât,â he chuckled.
âOf course you did! Youâre laughing,â you argued. âI knew I shouldnât have trusted you with my food.â
âLook, Iâm laughing because youâre angry. I swear I didnât do it,â he held his hands up in surrender.
âIf it wasnât you, then who was it?â
âI donât know. It probably was that kid,â he pointed to Jessâ nephew.
âOf course, Dean, blame it on the kid,â you hissed with a roll of your eyes.
âLook, Iâm gonna get you another piece, alright?â
âYou better.â
He did get another piece of dessert. It was delicious and you were as happy as a kid in a candy shop.
The rehearsal dinner came to an end and people started to leave.
âYou guys are not heading back with us?â You asked the happy, soon-to-be-married couple.
âNo, we still have some things to wrap up here,â Sam smiled.
âOkay,â you nodded. âYou were amazing today. Everything was beautiful. I canât wait for tomorrow,â you smiled, hugging Sam before hugging your best friend. âI love you both.â
You and Dean headed out of the restaurant and started to walk back to the resort.
âDo you wanna go for a walk?â
âIâd love that,â you said.
You walked to the beach. You breathed in the ocean carried air. Dean took off his shoes and you did the same. The soft golden sand seemed to caress your feet with its comforting warmth. The night sky along the calm sea looked like a painting.
âItâs beautiful, isnât it?â Dean said as he noticed your eyes shine just as bright as the stars in the sky.
âIt is,â you smiled.
âLetâs go in there.â
âWhat?â You turned abruptly to him.
âYeah, why not?â He shrugged. âThereâs no here. We can go in fully clothed or not.â
âOkay.â
âWeâre doing this fully clothed or not?â
âFully clothed.â
He nodded, shrugging off his suit, and loosening his tie. Dean took your heels from you and placed it along with his pieces of clothes on the sand. Distant enough so nothing would get wet.
Dean held out his hand for you to take. He grinned before running into the water with you. You squeaked when the cold water hit your legs.
âShit, itâs cold,â goosebumps crept up on your skin.
âStop being such a baby,â he teased, splashing water at you.
âOh, you did not!â
You did the same to him. Dean chuckled, splashing more water at you. You didnât know how much time you spent acting like kids. The sound of waves of laughter echoed through the quiet beach. You pushed him and he fell, getting completely drenched. His arms reached out for you, bringing you down with him.
âYouâre so mean,â you squealed.
âYou started it,â he stood to his feet, holding his hands out.
âNo, you started it,â he pulled you up, and once again you were too close to his body.
âAdmit it, you had fun,â his hand reached to your face, brushing a few damp strands off your face.
âIt was too cold,â you shivered.
âBut you had fun.â
âI did,â you smiled.
âLetâs head back, shall we?âÂ
You nodded. Dean picked up your stuff and put his jacket around your shoulders.
âThanks,â you smiled.
âJust making sure you wonât freeze to death, sweetheart,â he sneaked his arm around your waist.
You walked in silence. You quietly thanked once you saw the resort get closer and closer. Your sore feet were more than glad to be back in your room.
âWe should try that jacuzzi, huh?â He suggested.
âYeah, we should,â you sighed, heading to the bathroom.
âI meant together, like-â
âI know what you meant, Dean,â you said, turning on the jacuzzi. âNow grab that champagne in the mini-fridge.â
He nodded and did as told. You could see there was something off about him.
âYou sure youâre okay with the naked thing?â He asked.
âYeah, of course,â you checked on the temperature and turned on the jets. âAre you?â
âYeah, of course. Why wouldnât I be?â He was nervous. You chuckled. âWhat?â
âNothing, itâs just that you seem a little nervous.â
âIâm not nervous.â
âOkay, good,â you shrugged. âCan you, uhâŚâ you turned to him.
âYeah, sure,â he slowly unzipped your dress.
The dress pooled around your feet. Dean swallowed thickly at the sight of you in your underwear. His breath was caught in his throat. You slipped off your panties and he instinctively licked his lips. He was glad you had your back to him.
âAlright, Iâm not gonna be the only one naked here, right?â You turned to him.
âWanna see what Iâm wearing underneath all this?â
You frowned. He unbuttoned his white shirt and tugged down his pants. You blurt out laughing.
âI canât believe you have a Scooby-Doo underwear!â
âCool right?â He grinned, pulling off his boxers.
âItâs awesome, you beamed.
You hopped on the jacuzzi, the warm water making you relax instantly. Dean poured champagne for the both of you.
âSo I was thinking,â you said before taking a sip at your drink. âCan I grab your butt in front of your parents?â
âNo, Y/N, you canât grab my butt in front of my parents.â
âBut itâs so perky,â you pleaded.
âY/N,â he gave a warning look.
âOkay, okay. I wonât grab your butt in front of your parents.â
âGreat,â he smiled. âCan I kiss you in front of my parents?â
âSure,â you shrugged. âIt doesnât have to be right in front of your parents, you know?â
âYeah?â
âSure. I mean, friends kiss sometimes.â
âReally?â
âIâm actually surprised youâre asking me this, but yeah, Dean, they do,â you said. âHow do you think Jess and I learned how to kiss?â
âOh, I never thought about that part.â
You chuckled. Both of you fell into silly conversations. It made you forget you were actually naked in front of him.
âWe should get out,â he said. âItâs getting late.â
âYeah, we should.â
Dean stood up, picking your glass from your hand.
âSee, itâs perky,â you said.
He chuckled.
âHere you go,â he took your hand in his, helping you out of the tub. Dean wrapped a towel around your shoulders before wrapping one around his waist.
âDean?â
âWhat?â
âI dare you to kiss me,â
His green eyes widened, but also looked for any sign that indicated you were kidding. His hand came up to cup your cheek. His plump lips captured yours in a sweet kiss. They glided over each other as if you had done this before. You wrapped your arms around his neck, your towel falling in the process. He deepened the kiss as you parted your lips, allowing his tongue to delve into your mouth. His hand on your hip, squeezed your skin, drawing you closer to him. His tongue traced yours in a sensual dance. You tasted the champagne in his warm muscle. A moan was muffled by his lips.
The need for air came sooner than you hoped for. You parted. Neither of you dared to open your eyes. Dean pecked your lips softly before resting his forehead against yours. His thumb caressed your flushed cheek.
âI should, uh, I should go get changed,â he cleared his throat.
You nodded, watching him exit the room. Your fingers traced up to your kiss swollen lips. God, you were screwed.
âââ âYou look so beautiful. I think Iâm gonna cry,â you said to Jess.
She looked perfect. Her gown looked even more beautiful than you remembered.
âSam wonât know what hit him,â you smiled.
âIâm so glad I chose you as my maid of honor,â she grinned, hugging you. âI love you.â
âI love you too,â you kissed her cheek. âI need to get going. Itâs almost time.â
You headed to the lounge to meet Dean. He was standing there in his tuxedo. You could swear you had never seen him this handsome.
His eyes widened once he saw you. Dean nearly gasped. The rose gold gown fitted your body perfectly, hugging every curve.
âYou look, wow,â he smiled. âYou look beautiful.â
âYou donât look bad yourself,â you smiled, pecking his lips. âShall we?â
He linked his arm with yours, guiding you towards the beach. Everything looked so beautiful. It looked as if it had come out of a movie.
You waited for your queue and walked down the aisle to the altar. You and Dean stood on opposite sides.
A trail of goosebumps ran through your body once you spotted Jess. She grinned wide as her eyes found Samâs. It was happening. Their dream was coming true.
âFamily and friends, weâre gathered here today to celebrate the love of Samuel and Jessica.â
You forced your eyes away from the couple only to meet Deanâs green orbs staring at you. His lips curled into a smile. You held each otherâs gaze. Your cheeks started to heat up at the intensity of his look.
Sam and Jess read their vows. You cursed at yourself for not focusing on them. Deanâs eyes were drawing you to him. Silly smiles spread wide on your lips.
The ceremony was beautiful. It was better than you and Jess expected. They were pronounced husband and wife and everyone headed to the wedding reception. They danced to the sound of their favorite song. Everyone could see how much they loved each other and how happy they were.
You and Dean made your toasts separately. Both Jess and Sam teared up a little. After the toasts, most people headed to the dance floor.
âWould you like to dance?â Dean held his hand for you as a slow song echoed through the room.
âWith you? Always.â
He guided you to where couples were dancing. His hands were placed on your hips as you wrapped your arms around his neck, both of you swaying to the rhythm of the song.
âSo where does this leave us huh?â He asked.
âWhat do you mean?â
âYou know what happened last night. That wasnât just two friends kissing. I know it and you know it too.â
âI know, youâre right,â you looked up at him.
âGood,â he smiled. âSo no more fake dating?â
âNo more fake dating.â
He pecked your lips into a passionate kiss and the whole world fell away.
âCall me selfish, but I donât ever want anyone else to touch you,â he said as you parted. âNot even your friends kissing you.â
âSame goes for you, Winchester.â
âââ
âYouâre not gonna join them?â Dean asked behind you, wrapping his arms around your middle.
âNah, let them have their fun,â you said, watching the group of women gather not so far as they waited for Jess to throw the bouquet.
They all cheered and screamed when she tossed it. You jumped when the flowers fell on your feet.
âOh, youâve gotta be kidding me,â you rolled your eyes.
âItâs way too soon, sweetheart,â Dean chuckled.
âAlright, ladies,â you announced, holding up the flowers. â$20 and the bouquet is yours,â they all laughed. âNo? Ten bucks maybe?â
Dean chuckled, pressing his lips to your cheek.
âYouâre one of a kind, sweetheart.â

Time Skip Rich Kuroo and Kenma Headcanons
On one hand Iâm like âOOO YAY RICH KENMA AND KUROO!!! They did so well for themselves. They made it big. Itâs amazing. Neither of them were especially special before. They had their own talents but they werenât the ones in the magazines or going to the top schools or whatever. And they were both so quiet and shy as kids. Look how far theyâve come!â
On the other hand I donât like rich people in real life and ya know,... eat the rich and all that. Itâs hard to see them like that even when Iâm proud of them. So Iâm a little torn about how they ended up. So Iâve come up with some headcanons for them that makes it a little easier for me to make peace with their outcomes.
KENMA
Kenma hires people to care for his lawn and sometimes to dust and stuff around his house. Sometimes pays people to get his groceries or feed his cats when he canât too. But he pays them all super well and gives extra when itâs deserved.Â
Sometimes he doesnât feel like figuring out the exacts of what he owes so he just rounds up because easier.
Heâs also very understanding. You need to come tomorrow instead of today? Sure. Whatever. As long as youâve been a decent employee, no problem. Your kid is sick and you gotta go? No problem. Hereâs what I owe you for what youâve done. Never complains about it unless youâre typically a bad employee and donât even try.
Heâs helped out employees and friends financially when they needed it. All his employees are paid well too.
Heâll invest in people or small businesses that interest him. Heâs given good sized checks to places just because they had an interesting idea he wanted to see happen. He prefers spending on that rather than a watch or a limo or something.
He should maybe consider investing in some better suits though....At least one for an important meeting...
He donates to other things too. If he comes across something asking for donations, heâs willing to give. Not always a lot, but usually something.
Aside from games, he doesnât spend much on himself. He doesnât even own a car. He rides his bike and takes the train most of the time. And he has no desire to live in some fancy expensive place. He just wants a decent house with space between him and his neighbors.Â
He always makes sure his parents have everything they need too. One of the first things he did was update his parents house since his mother really wanted a new kitchen.
Heâs not really worried about running out of money. He knows heâll find a way to make more if things go horribly wrong and he keeps enough to last him quite a while even if things do go wrong. Heâd just have to spend less if that happened but heâd be fine.
Totally buys those passes that allow you to skip lines at amusement parks though and anything else to just make things easier.
KUROO
Not quite as simple as Kenma. He does like to have a fancy apartment and good food. Heâll spend money on nice things if he likes them.
He enjoys entertainment and will often spend money on that. He really likes seeing games or just spending the night out after work with some friends. Drinks are on him.
But spending it means itâs going back into the economy so itâs not necessarily a bad thing.Â
He eventually gets a car but he still rides the train or walks a lot of places. He doesnât mind it unless the weather is bad or he has to transport a lot of things.
He does donate though. He takes the time to research the group or company more than Kenma does though and only gives money once heâs sure they are a good place using the money for good purposes. One bad spot on the groups record and itâs likely not going to get his money. Heâs very particular about it.
Still, he does like to keep a lot of his money. Itâs saving for his future. He never wants to worry about money again.
He sends money home regularly to help out his dad and grandparents.Â
He usually does his own cleaning and buying of groceries but if he hires someone to clean or watch over his pets, they are paid well and treated well. Â
His dad always wanted to visit some place like Tahiti, Maui, or Bali, but he could never afford it. One of the first things Kuroo did with his money was by them first class tickets to Maui and spent a week with his dad.
He refuses to be in regular plane seats or train seats. His legs are way too long. Itâs always first class.

The writing thingie, fake relationship (7), mcdanno. Thanks!
What an awesome suggestion! I hope you like it:
âOkay,â Tani said, pulling up some information on the big display. âIt looks like our suspects booked tickets to Maui for the weekend.â
âProbably for the alibi,â Danny said, even though that fact should have been patently obvious to everyone in the room. Steve gave him a look, which Danny ignored. âAny idea where on Maui theyâre staying?â
âYes,â Tani said. âThey booked a vacation package which puts them at this resort all weekend.â
âGreat,â Steve said, smacking Dannyâs arm. âDanno, youâre with me. Lou, contact the Maui county sheriffâs office. Tell them weâre inbound and weâll need their support.â
âYou got it, boss.â
âLetâs go.â
With a sigh, Danny followed Steve, asking him, âWhat if I didnât want to go to Maui?â
âWho doesnât want to go to Maui?â Steve replied, pushing open the doors that led out to the lobby. âMauiâs beautiful, especially this time of year. What have you got against Maui?â
âI donât, uh, have anything against Maui,â Danny said, following Steve from the building and out to their â his â car. âI do have a thing against being in a helicopter with you at the, uh, the controls.â
Steve rolled his eyes and got in the car.
Two hours later, they were pulling up to the resort in a rented car. âOkay thanks, Lou,â Steve said into the speakerphone as Danny read, and then re-read the banner over the resort entrance. âAs soon as we have visual confirmation that our suspects are here, weâll call in the sheriff.â
âGood luck.â
After Lou hung up, Danny muttered, âYeah, weâre gonna need it.â Pointing out the windshield, he asked, âDo you see what that banner says?â
âYeah, I can read,â Steve said with a huff. âIt says, âTrue Love: a couples-only...retreat.ââ The realization must have hit while he was reading.Â
Sighing, Danny repeated, âCouples only. How are we supposed to keep our investigation quiet, like the Mayor of Maui County himself requested? Weâre gonna stick out like two sore thumbs.â
Giving Danny an assessing look, Steve said, âNot necessarily.â
âOh, no,â Danny said, shaking his head and moving his hands like he could wipe away Steveâs suggestion. âWe canât! Itâs never gonna work! Not in a million years!â
With a bright grin, Steve said, âAw, come on, Danny. Itâs not gonna be that bad. People call us married all the time.â
âYeah, because you treat me like youâre a controlling jackass of a husband, and Iâm your abused wife,â Danny insisted. âMaybe if you werenât such a control frâ ...And he left the car.â
Still grumbling to himself, Danny got out of the car and caught up to Steve and his stupidly long legs.Â
âSo thatâs it? We go in there with absolutely no plan? Hope we find the suspects before we get kicked out for not being a couple?â
Steve grabbed Dannyâs hand and smiled at him. âBut we are a couple, pumpkin.â
âYouâre an asshole,â Danny muttered, but he let Steve drag him into the resort anyway.Â
âLoosen up,â Steve hissed at him. âWeâre never gonna sell this if you look like youâre about to murder me.â
âYou have no idea how close I am to murdering you,â Danny replied. âSweetums.â
They made it about fifteen minutes before a woman with a lei around her neck and a clipboard in her hand asked them, "Hi, how are you enjoying your weekend so far?"
"Oh, it's been amazing," Steve told her, giving Danny a smile that he'd honestly never seen before. As cataloging Steve's various faces was somewhat of a hobby of Danny's, seeing a new one was a little shocking. And disturbing.
Then Steve said to the woman, "But, you know. We met another couple, and really got along with them. We wanted to find them again, ask if they maybe wanted to do something later, but we can't find them again."
"Oh?" she asked, and Danny could tell she was completely snookered. "What are their names?"
"Harry and, oh, what was his wife's name?" Steve asked, looking over at Danny. "Do you remember, sweetheart?"
The way Danny's chest tightened when Steve called him "sweetheart" was surely the first sign of an impending heart attack, right? It had to be. Clearing his throat, Danny said, "Violet. Her name's Violet."
"Right," Steve said, giving Danny a dazzling smile before leaning in and kissing his temple.Â
Okay, this was too weird.
Continuing, Steve said, "I knew her name was some sort of flower. Violet. Harry and Violet. That's who we're looking for."
"Doesn't ring a bell," said the woman. "But we have almost five hundred couples with us this weekend. I'll keep my eyes peeled. If I find them, who should I say is asking?"
Okay, here's where the whole ruse was about to fall apart. What if she compared their names to some sort of list?
"Oh, don't worry about it," Steve told her, turning up the charm. "I'm sure you have much more important things to do. Have a nice night!"
"You, too!"
Steve dragged Danny away from the woman, muttering once they were out of earshot, "That was a close one."
"This is what happens when you try to improvise an undercover op," Danny said, in his most I-told-you-so tone of voice. "Shit goes south real fast."
"Unless you have a helpful suggestion, I suggest you zip it, Daniel," Steve said, tugging Danny's hand toward the outdoor pool area. "Maybe they're enjoying the sun."
Scoffing, Danny said, "Yeah, that's what I'd be doing if I was waiting to hear back from the hit man I hired to kill my business partner. Sun and tiki drinks."
"No, you'd be complaining," Steve told him. Then he said, "Is it just me, or is that security guy over there eyeing us up?"
Following Steve's line of sight, Danny spotted the security guy in question. "Oh, yeah. He's about to bust us for sure."
"What do we do?" Steve asked, looking at Danny with a hint of panic in his eyes.Â
Okay, a panicking Navy SEAL was not great, because it tended to end with explosions and maiming. So, Danny shrugged and said, "The only way out of this is through," before pulling Steve down into a kiss.
For the first few seconds, the kiss sucked, pretty bad. Danny supposed that's what he got for surprising Steve. But then, then, Steve cupped Danny's face in both hands and started kissing back. The kiss went from uninspiring to life-changing in the span of about three seconds.
The kiss made Danny's blood rush in his ears. It made his knees weak (especially the bad one). It made his throat ache. It stirred a fire in Danny's soul that had him clutching at Steve's shirt and kissing back and ready to die for it, if only the kiss would last a few seconds longer.
When Steve drew his lips away, he left his forehead pressed to Danny's and whispered, "Think that convinced him?"
"Convinced me pretty good," Danny admitted, about to try his luck for another kiss when Steve's phone rang.
Pulling away from Danny, Steve answered the phone, "McGarrett." He nodded a few times, adding a grunt here or there as the other person spoke.
Danny wiped his mouth dry and tried to think of baseball and only baseball.
Then Steve said, "Okay, thanks," and hung up the phone. Patting Danny on the back, he said, "Harry just turned his cell phone back on. He's at a beach ten minutes from here."
"Or at least his phone is," Danny said, nodding as Steve gestured him back the way they came.Â
He realized that not holding Steve's hand now felt almost as weird as holding it had felt when they first walked into this place. Danny had no idea what to do about that feeling. Probably, nothing, right? It was just one of those things.
Yeah, just one of those things. That was it.
Send me a ship and a number!

Everything Everything
The story follows 18-year-old Madeline Whittier, a half Japanese, half African-American 18-year-old who is being treated by her doctor mother for severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID), and therefore is not allowed to leave her house or interact with anything that has not been "sanitized". Her world consists of her mother Pauline, her nurse Carla, and the books she finds comfort in; with her father and brother having died a long time ago in a car accident.Â
Maddy's life changes when a family moves in next door. She watches them from the window and learns that the family includes a father, mother, daughter named Kara, and a son named Olly. Olly befriends Maddy, and the two begin to message each other online. Meanwhile, Olly's father is abusive and Kara has a smoking problem.
One day, Carla sneaks Olly into Maddy's house, and the two meet face to face for the first time. They begin meeting in Maddy's house regularly, and at one point Maddy even goes outside for a few seconds. When her mother discovers Maddy has been secretly meeting Olly, she fires Carla and bans Maddy from ever seeing Olly again, but they continue secretly talking. One day, Pauline shows Maddy a photo of their family in Maui when Maddy was only months old. Influenced by this photo, Maddy decides to risk it all and go to Hawaii with Olly. Olly first disagrees, but Maddy liesâ she tells him that she is on a new medicine that will keep her from getting sickâ and Olly agrees.
The two go to Hawaii, explore the country, and are blissful for the day. The next day, Maddy has to be taken to a hospital because she wakes up extremely sick.
Maddy's mother brings her home and hires Carla again to take care of her. Maddy eventually recovers. She stops emailing Olly as she doesn't want to miss him and the world. A month later Maddy sees Olly, Kara, and their mother loading their belongings into a moving van while their father is at work, escaping his tyranny.
Two months after Hawaii, Maddy gets a letter from the doctor who treated her when she got sick there, and in the note, the doctor says she thinks that Maddy does not have SCID, and she got sick because she had spent her whole life inside and has never formed a natural immunity. The doctor blames myocarditis as the reason for Maddy's heart-stopping. Maddy, angry and panicked, searches her mother's medical files but does not find the test results or doctor's notes that would confirm she had SCID. Instead, she finds some notes her mother wrote and a few articles about SCID from the internet. She confronts her mother, who breaks down and indirectly admits she does not have SCID. Maddy tells Carla, and Carla says she had always suspected that her mom hadn't completely recovered from the death of her father and brother.
Maddy's mother says that right after Maddy's father and brother died, Maddy got very sick, and her mother, not wanting to lose her, decided she had SCID, and needed to be kept away from the world. Maddy is mad at her mom and can't bring herself to forgive her. Maddy flies to New York, where she sent Olly on a mini scavenger hunt that led him to a used bookstore where she was waiting for him.

Commercial Real Estate, A Career - How Do You Get Into It?
1. What is it and how can you get in to it?
I attended the Society of Industrial Realtors Annual spring conference in Maui several years ago. To make sure we did a lot of sightseeing, my wife had joined me. My wife and I attended the cocktail party sponsored by Colliers International, an international 241 office firm.
After a few minutes of introductions, a man came from the golf course to sit down at our table. Andrew Friedlander introduced himself and we talked about his home in Philadelphia, Brooklyn, and his new home here in Honolulu. Andrew explained that he came to Hawaii on R&R from his Army tours in Vietnam. He was about to finish his last duty tour. He rented an apartment and waited tables. He washed cars. To have extra money. He explained that he had paid his rent to an older gentleman who visited his apartment once a month. The man finally asked him if that was his business. Andrew stated that he had never considered property management as a business. However, the more Andrew spoke with the man, the more he realized the diversity of commercial real estate, especially in Hawaii. Andrew was shown the basics by the rental agent and he decided to not return to Brooklyn.
Andrew, forty years later is the manager of six Colliers International Hawaii offices with more than 40 salespeople and brokers. Andrew's team handles all aspects of industrial and commercial real estate, including traditional brokerage transactions and selling and leasing commercial real property through the islands.
While we were there, a concierge told us that it was a wonderful place. Now, where would you think about moving to?
A friend and young Army captain called me from Hawaii over the past year. After his last duty tour, he and his wife were enjoying some R&R and called me to get my advice about commercial real estate companies. After checking with Andrew about his availability, I gave Andrew my number. Andrew took my friend out to lunch and introduced him the Colliers business in the islands. My friend and his wife later decided to move to Florida to be near their parents. He was eager to be interviewed by Colliers in Ft. Lauderdale. Although he found a better match for a concentration of office brokerage with another company, I believe it is clear that there are opportunities with major firms for someone with an interest in the field, who can show that they are self-motivated and have positive manners (manners, speech patterns, business attire, etc.). One night, a long-time friend of mine told me that the desk clerk was the representative for the hotel company to its customers. He also knew the CEO. The clerk's rudeness towards us is not indicative of what the CEO wants for their company. If he wants to be more than a late-night clerk, he will have to learn this lesson.
This is because Colliers, or any other competitor, must ensure that every salesperson or broker who meets a potential client represents the company's image. It is a huge investment to create that image for the business community. Every person must be able to reflect that effort, even all staff. A potential customer may choose to hire someone who is more professional than them. Wal-Mart's customer relations training is very strong. It would seem that every major restaurant chain has a comprehensive program for staff training. It might be worth observing how staff handle customers who are being unreasonable.
2. Entry
Andrew's story is an example of what commercial real estate can offer. In 1971, a senior business mentor and friend of mine said to me that commercial realty offered an opportunity to start a business, without the need for capital. There was no limit to the number of transactions that could possibly be made. This was discussed in relation to me returning to law school. He thought it was almost an "sky is limit" approach but it had some sense. I had prepared a few financial reports about potential deals that were offered to me. At my mentor's direction, I also gave that year's $300k commission check, to a broker he had used to purchase a property he had settled on the previous year. The second half of the commission was also handed to the broker by me the next year. Remember that the 1972 commission amount at the beginning of that recession was significant money for any transaction.
Each state has its own licensing regulations. Florida requires that a person take a sales licensing class, pass it, and then work for at least two years in a licensed real-estate broker's office before they can take the state broker's exam. Many colleges and private companies offer sales courses, with evening classes being the most popular. The course costs are minimal. It is easy to learn the basics of reading, writing, and math. Commercial real estate firms might offer the course depending on your education qualifications. For salespeople, smaller, more generalized brokerage firms might also offer the course.
A recognized culture or business reputation is usually established for any real estate company in any community. This can be either local, regional, or national. It is important to research which company suits your needs. You can find out a company's history, areas of expertise, staff, and successes via the internet. Recognize that large metropolitan commercial firms will often outsource client requirements in outlying areas to smaller commercial firms in the area, rather than asking one of their main offices to travel. If you live in a rural area between major metropolitan areas, it is important to find out which real estate companies have these relationships.
You will only be able to succeed in commercial realty, especially if you don't have capital. In the early 1970's, I had the option of finishing law school again. The thing I discovered was that I enjoyed being "outside" of an office, and I also liked being "on the streets." Ft. Lauderdale was home to many of my attorney friends. They spent hours in their offices writing briefs and drafting documents, which is what the profession demands. My decision was to work as hard on commercial real estate as I would for any other law practice. It worked if it was successful, but if not, I would return to school.
Given that Florida's early 1970's recession caused almost equal economic damage to all occupations, many lawyers had low billing practices and clients whose business was in trouble. Many real estate brokers I met were facing difficult times due to the fact that banks weren't lending money for deals. Florida had a 14% usury limit at the time. The deposits were low and California's interest rates rose to 14%. That is where the money went.
Weekdays were spent knocking on doors of businesses along the West Palm to Miami corridor. Weekends were spent painting houses or sailing a motorboat owned by a friend. On weekday evenings, after dinner, I would be at the office reviewing information about property, ownerships, tax data and other pertinent details. I was available to drive or make phone calls the next day. It was possible to make a living in the commercial realty field. After I returned to Philadelphia, I discovered that many commercial real estate companies were open to hiring salespeople as waiters, bartenders, or other temporary jobs until they have enough experience to close deals. This has been influenced by the greater financial strength of larger firms, which can either offer a salary base or allow for new salespeople.
Today, gender isn't as important in commercial real estate today as it was in 1970. In those days, women could not compete with men in selling venues. There are now many women who have joined real estate companies such as SIOR and CCIM. The number of women who have joined commercial real estate organizations like SIOR, CCIM, etc. has increased significantly over the last 15 years (which I will talk about later). Commercial real estate courses today offer a great way to acquire knowledge once taught "in-house" by senior brokers responsible for the progress of new salespeople.
The importance of having minimum capital in commercial real estate has not changed. Gender isn't an issue. Many women have succeeded in office or industrial real estate. You can find out more at www.youtube.com You can choose your work hours, your specialty(s), your market(s), and who you would like to approach to join your firm. Commercial real estate is a standard business week that does not include Sunday or late Saturday hours. These are just a few of the many positive aspects of commercial real estate. Your competition is fierce, your competitors are proud of your work ethic, and most importantly, their reputations for each individual.
Both larger brokerage firms and smaller commercial companies should be investigated. Both have their advantages and disadvantages.
A). A base salary may be offered by larger firms. Although they may prefer to have prior business experience, this does not necessarily mean that they will be willing to offer a draw against commissions. A new salesperson would typically be assigned to a senior or multiple brokers to handle cold calling, marketing materials, and reports on any client's property. They also might have to deal with property inspections by their prospects by other brokers.
Here are some points about larger firms:
The future ownership potential of the company could be limited or nonexistent.
You may not have control over the market, territory, or discipline in which you work. You may be sedona houses for sale hired to work in retail. However, this could change if the department needs personnel support. If they have multiple offices, you may find they prefer to rotate through the different departments and possibly each regional office.
It depends on whether the company is privately owned or public. You may be able to sell or merge the company without your involvement. No position in a larger company has a "safety net". It is possible to make quick cuts if a client loses its primary, significant client to a competitor.
Senior brokers who have been successful sometimes leave the firm to open a new firm. If you work in the same department as the rainmakers, clients will follow them. This could impact your income potential.
The volume of deals can be as important as the deal size. A bank, insurance company, pension fund or other institutional owner may be interested in a deal. If an institutional owner (bank, insurance company, pension fund, etc.) has a presence on a urban market they might be able to award a sale or leasing assignment to a larger firm. This can make the assignment a "year-maker" if it is completed. Most often, the year-end bonus money goes to salespeople who participated in the marketing effort.
Senior brokers need to have high-level corporate contacts. This could be through a country club, business association, educational institutions, commercial lenders or people referred from cities with corporate headquarters. You might consider looking at other firms whose top managers are more involved if the firm owners and top brokers don't have the contacts or relationships to develop them. Instead of being left with crumbs from other firms that have a strong community (business and not-business), you want the work to flow down from the top.
B). A broker/owner will usually manage the operations of smaller firms, with or without brokers partners. They will often have a residential and separate commercial divisions in which some brokers might work in commercial and residential properties.
Here are some points to consider when looking at smaller firms:
Future ownership shares could be offered, depending on deal volume and commitment to firm. The opportunity might be more attractive for those who are near retirement, such as the founder broker.
Commission percentages can be more generous if a certain amount of deals are made to cover the cost for your desk, phone, and secretarial services.

Today we remember the passing of Tom Snyder who Died: July 29, 2007 in Belvedere, California
Thomas James Snyder (May 12, 1936 â July 29, 2007) was an American television personality, news anchor, and radio personality best known for his late night talk shows Tomorrow, on the NBC television network in the 1970s and 1980s, and The Late Late Show, on the CBS Television Network in the 1990s. Snyder was also the pioneer anchor of the prime time NBC News Update, in the 1970s and early 1980s, which was a one-minute capsule of news updates in prime time.
Snyder was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Frank and Marie Snyder, who were of German, Cornish, and Irish descent. He received a Catholic upbringing, attending St. Agnes Elementary School and graduating from Jesuit-run Marquette University High School. He then attended Marquette University, after which he had originally planned to study medicine and become a doctor.
Snyder loved radio since he was a child and at some point he changed his field of study from pre-med to journalism. He once told Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reporter Tim Cuprisin that broadcasting became more important to him than attending classes, and he skipped a lot of them. Snyder began his career as a radio reporter at WRIT-AM (unrelated to the present-day FM station) in Milwaukee, now WJYI-AM and at WKZO in Kalamazoo (where he was fired by John Fetzer) in the 1950s. For a time he worked at Savannah, Georgia AM station WSAV (now WBMQ).
Snyder moved into television in the 1960s; he talked about driving cross-country in an early Corvair from Atlanta to Los Angeles around 1963. After a year-long stint in a news job at KTLA, he became a news anchor for KYW-TV (now WKYC-TV) in Cleveland in 1964. In 1965, when Westinghouse Broadcasting moved KYW-TV back to Philadelphia as the result of an FCC ruling, Snyder went along and remained in Philadelphia for five years.
In July 1970, Snyder returned to Los Angeles and joined NBC News, who assigned him to anchor the 6:00 pm (Pacific time) weeknight newscast on KNBC. Snyder remained in this capacity even after NBC launched the Tomorrow show with him as host in October 1973, working alongside Tom Brokaw, Jess Marlow and Paul Moyer at the KNBC anchor desk. Another KNBC broadcaster, Kelly Lange, later became Snyder's regular substitute guest host on the Tomorrow program, prior to the hiring of co-host Rona Barrett in the program's last year. Snyder moved to New York City in late 1974, taking the Tomorrow program with him and kept his hand in news, anchoring weeknight newscasts on WNBC-TV until 1977, and Sunday broadcasts of NBC Nightly News during 1975 and 1976.
Snyder returned to local news in 1982 after ending Tomorrow, to become an anchor at WABC-TV in New York City. In 1985, he returned to Los Angeles but stayed with ABC, to anchor at KABC-TV.
Snyder gained national fame as the host of Tomorrow with Tom Snyder (more commonly known as The Tomorrow Show), which aired late nights after The Tonight Show on NBC from 1973 to 1982. It was a talk show unlike the usual late-night fare, with Snyder, cigarette in hand, alternating between asking hard-hitting questions and offering personal observations that made the interview seem more like a conversation.
Unique one-on-one exchanges were common to the program, notably with author Harlan Ellison, John Lydon of PiL and The Sex Pistols in 1980, John Lennon in 1975, actor and writer Sterling Hayden, Charles Manson, and author and philosopher Ayn Rand. A one-on-one program with David Brenner as the sole guest revealed that Snyder and Brenner worked together on several documentaries.
An infamous edition of The Tomorrow Show broadcast on October 31, 1979, saw Snyder interview the rock group KISS. During the episode, a visibly irritated Gene Simmons (bass) and Paul Stanley (guitar) tried to contain the bombastic (and drunk) Ace Frehley (lead guitar), whose nonstop laughter and joking overshadowed the rest of the band. Snyder and Peter Criss (drummer) were obviously enjoying it though, chiming in with several jokes, much to Frehley's delight, and Simmons' disgust. Criss made repeated references to his large gun collection, to the chagrin of Simmons. Some of the footage from this show was later included on the KissologyâThe Ultimate KISS Collection Vol. 2: 1978â1991 (2007) DVD.
In the late 1970s Snyder interviewed Disney animator Ward Kimball regarding his toy train collection and his full-size trains. Snyder appeared to be as happy as a "kid in a candy store," picking up various locomotives and asking lots of questions. The video segments could still be viewed on YouTube as of 2018. Snyder's love of toy trains started with his first Lionel locomotive, a scale steam switcher, which he claimed never worked too well. His collection was later donated to a New Jersey toy train club, the NJ Hi-Railers.
When not grilling guests, Snyder would often joke around with offstage crewmen, often breaking out in the distinctively hearty laugh that was the basis of Dan Aykroyd's impersonation of Snyder on Saturday Night Live (12 occasions, 1976â79 and 1995). Following a disastrous experiment with turning Tomorrow into a more typical talk showârenaming it Tomorrow Coast to Coast and adding a live audience and co-host Rona Barrett (all of which Snyder resented)âthe show was canceled in 1982, to make way for the up-and-coming young comedian David Letterman, after Snyder turned down moving to the 1:30 to 2:30 am time slot after Letterman.
In 1982 Snyder joined WABC-TV in New York, anchoring the 5 pm Eyewitness News program with Kaity Tong. He stayed at WABC for two years, then returned to the talk format in 1985 at KABC-TV in Los Angeles with a local afternoon show. He had hoped to syndicate the program nationally the following year, but those plans were scratched after Oprah Winfrey's Chicago-based syndicated show entered the market first, and took over Snyder's time slot on KABC-TV.
In 1988 Snyder inaugurated a similar three-hour program on ABC Radio. The first hour was spent chatting with a celebrity guest; during the second hour Snyder engaged someone in the news; and the final hour was consumed chatting with his legion of fans. Occasionally the caller would be a well-known fan like David Letterman or Ted Koppel. One of Snyder's favorite callers was Sherman Hemsley, the actor who played George Jefferson on the hit television sitcom The Jeffersons. The Tom Snyder Show for ABC Radio Networks went off the air in late 1992.
Snyder returned to television on CNBC on January 21, 1993, adding the opportunity for viewers to call in with their own questions for his guests. Snyder nicknamed his show the Colorcast, reviving an old promotional term NBC-TV used in the early 1960s to brand its color broadcasts. He also continued his trademark of talking to offscreen crew and made frequent reference to the studio, reminding viewers of its location in Fort Lee, New Jersey. The final CNBC show aired on December 1, 1994.
Meanwhile, Letterman had moved on to CBS and was given control of creating a new program to follow his at 12:35 am. Letterman, who had idolized Snyder for years, hired Snyder in 1994 as host of The Late Late Show; the announcement was made by Letterman and CBS president Howard Stringer on August 9 that Snyder's show would begin on January 9, 1995. The idea had actually begun as a running joke on Letterman's show that Snyder would soon follow him on the air as he had once followed Johnny Carson on The Tonight Show; the unlikely suggestion caught on. As part of the joke, Snyder appeared as himself in 1993 in The Larry Sanders Show episode "Life Behind Larry," in which talk-show host Sanders (Garry Shandling) steals Snyder from Letterman to host a talk-show in the slot immediately after his.
The Late Late Show with Tom Snyder aired live in the Eastern and Central Time Zones, and was simulcast to other time zones on radio to allow everyone a chance to call in. Snyder's CNBC show was taken over, largely unchanged in format, by Charles Grodin. One of the many interviews conducted on The Late Late Show was with Gloria Vanderbilt about her son's suicide, told dramatically over an entire hour. Another was a lengthy interview with Robert Blake very soon before Blake was charged with murder. When Snyder took ill with the flu, comedians Martin Mull and Jon Stewart filled in as hosts. Snyder's final Late Late Show aired on March 26, 1999. It was then reformatted for his successor Craig Kilborn, as a more traditional late night show with an audience, comic monologue, comedy segments, shorter interviews, and a greater emphasis on guests from the entertainment industry. Scottish comedian Craig Ferguson maintained a similar format when he succeeded Kilborn in 2005, though Ferguson cited Snyder as an influence in his interview style, and even experimented with an audience-less episode, in the style of Snyder's tenure, on February 23, 2010.
In February 2000, Snyder hosted two episodes of The Late Show Backstage that aired in The Late Show time slot when Letterman was recovering from heart surgery.
Snyder also hosted a video production called A Century of Lionel Electric Trains, commemorating 100 years of Lionel Trains covering Lionel from 1900 to 2000. Part 1 featuring Lionel history from 1900 to 1945 and Part 2 featuring Lionel history from 1945 to 2000. Additionally, he hosted another program from the same production company called Celebrity Train Layouts 2: Tom Snyder, featuring his own collection of trains.
Snyder was married once, to Mary Ann Bendel but they divorced in 1975. Their daughter, Anne Marie and two grandchildren live on Maui, Hawaii. After his divorce he lived for at least 20 years with a woman to whom he referred only as "The Companion"âlater identified by the New York Times as Pamela Burke, a former executive producer of the Tomorrow program.
In addition to being an avid model train collector, Snyder was also a car buff. On his radio and television programs, he would occasionally talk about current cars he owned as well as cars from the 1950s and 1960s he admired or owned in his teens and twenties. When Snyder left The Late Late Show in 1999, David Letterman gave him a white 1960 Cadillac Series 62 convertible as a going-away present.
In April 2005, Snyder revealed that he had been diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia. In June 2006 he sold his home in the Benedict Canyon area of Los Angeles, where he had lived for almost 30 years, and relocated to Belvedere, in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he owned a second home.
Snyder died of complications from leukemia on July 29, 2007, in San Francisco at the age of 71.
