It's all fun and games until Mehta brings up the fact that Eddie owed Buck one for dragging him out of the line of fire and tossing him like a bag of potatoes into the truck before begging him to hold on the entire trip to the hospital and Eddie chokes on his drink and goes, "What?"

Seeing the 133 bts content is making me giggle, because I'm so excited to see Captain Mehta again! Like I just want to learn more about him and his firehouse, hoping we get an epic team-up with the 118 and they all work so beautifully.
There's so much potential there and I'm excited, basically.

lives entangled in the red-hued dew
buddie | teen | 3.2k words
a missing 4x14 scene: when buck finds himself covered in the blood of his best friend, who was shot in the line of duty, he retreats to the sanctuary of a hospital bathroom to grapple with the horror of the situation.
The sensation of tasting blood seems almost universal, doesn't it? It's a memory etched into childhood, like the moment you nervously wiggle a loose tooth, eagerly anticipating the reward of adulthood only to find yourself wincing as the metallic tang spreads across your tongue. Or perhaps it's the inadvertent bite of the cheek, a sudden jolt of pain followed by the slow realisation of that familiar coppery taste mingling with saliva, cascading down your throat. And then there's the accidental cut, a small but potent reminder of vulnerability, as you instinctively bring your finger to your lips, seeking solace in the comforting ritual, only to be met with the bitter embrace of iron. It's a visceral experience, one that transcends age and circumstance, leaving an indelible mark on the tapestry of memory.
Buck is no stranger to blood, especially considering his profession, where encountering it is practically a given. In fact, he's had his fair share of personal encounters with it too. From his reckless childhood antics, seeking the attention he oh-so-desperately craved from his parents like any child would, to the more recent mishaps like being crushed by a ladder truck, nicked by glass from a windshield, or grappling with a pulmonary embolism. It seems like every month of his life has a tale of bleeding to tell, whether it's from a daring stunt gone wrong or just life's unpredictable twists and turns. If you were to catalogue them all, there wouldn't be a month that passed without Buck finding himself bleeding for one reason or another.
Blood is something he's always been fine with. It doesn't unsettle him when he sees it, nor does its smell sting his nostrils, or its sight bring tears to his eyes. It's never had a lasting effect on his inner balance. Except it does. It does this time, because it's Eddie. It's Eddie's blood, and it's everywhere, it's staining everything, and it's impossible for him to remain unaffected.
There's something about Eddie that always gets to Buck. It's not just the way he smiles, whether it's directed at Buck, Christopher, or anything else; it stirs emotions in Buck that he struggles to put into words. It's not just the physical closeness either, like when Eddie walks beside him, their arms brushing, providing each other with unwavering support. And it's definitely not just the way Eddie genuinely listens to Buck's ramblings, his interest never forced or feigned. But perhaps most profoundly, it's the way Eddie looked at Buck when he lay in a pool of his own blood, each shuddering breath a silent plea for help, yet his eyes saying more than words ever could—Buck was the only one he wanted by his side.
Though, Buck probably imagined that last part.

Buck watched his best friend get shot in front of him, crawled under a firetruck to drag said best friend to safety, and ripped the clothes off his on back to try and stop the bleeding all while facing active fire and Captain Mehta has the audacity to ask "Are you okay Buckley?" while Eddie's blood hasn't even dried on Buck's face yet, like what the fuck do you think Jeshan????

interesting that they gave Captain Mehta the name Jeshan (meaning crystal clear) and referred to Julie by her last name Rosen (rose/rosa meaning blooming romance)

insane but like
what if eddie was telling the truth to buck about all he knew of what happened the day of the shooting?
like what if he seriously didn’t remember buck being the one to save him, or carrying him to safety, or asking if he was hurt, or anything?
i just find it so interesting that captain mehta is returning the episode right after they Finally talked about it. what if mehta sees eddie and asks how he’s doing, eddie answers truthfully and then mehta sees buck off in the distance like- helping a victim or something- and he asks eddie again, “how is he by the way?” and eddie is very confused because . what do you mean?
maybe he will explain him getting struck by lightning and mehta is like ok cool but Not what i meant and then he explains to eddie all the parts he’s been missing about the day of the shooting …. and it just finally Clicks something into place for him.
idk maybe im insane but just the fact he’s showing up RIGHT AFTER the episode we just witnessed is ……. it’s interesting alright!!

Waitttt i watched the shooting episode again and did the sniper change aiming from buck to captain mehta?
Hi Nonnie, he did! Remember, Eddie was the first to be shot, and he was in his uniform. Buck was in civilian clothes. WE know he's a firefighter, but the sniper didn't. So when Captain Mehta jumped to get Buck out of the way of the unknown shooter, of course this firefighters hater would change his aim to the captain who is in his LAFD uniform...
Hope this helps? Have a good day! As always, my ask tag. xoxox

The return of the actor who plays Captain Mehta just for THIS episode is suspicious. I really want to believe it's related to Buddie on a romantic level, but I think it will go towards Buck's recovery/PTSD. Maybe with the Captain telling that he quit/wanted to quit firefighting because of trauma or injury or I don't know, something like that. To help Buck figure things out at a "party" with others firefighters that can bring experiences and advices. After the conversation with Eddie and Buck figuring out what he wants to do with his life, that could be a way to help him (and Eddie too, in a way).
I don't know.
(My 1% Buddie canon brain wants it to be all about Buddie and the realization of their feelings but, y'know, not getting my hopes up)

imagine we find out the backstory behind eddie's poker nights and it turns out that after the shooting, captain mehta had extended a standing invitation to eddie to visit the club, and initially he'd refused because he wasn't in the best headspace, but after therapy and bringing it up to frank he started going and having fun, and maybe it was mehta's idea to bring buck along this time, and really poker and company as a method for processing trauma is kind of lovely

okay but is this guy, who is specifically not clearly visible in this shot. Is this Mehta?
Tumblr media
my theory (clowning) : what if the expressions on their faces is bc Mehta said something teasing about how smitten Buck was. Eddie trying not to laugh and Buck glaring at him, judging his reaction.
