In a single image I had become multidimensional! ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• The model of the 𝘾𝙖𝙥𝙚 𝘾𝙤𝙙 𝘾𝙖𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙍𝙖𝙞𝙡𝙧𝙤𝙖𝙙 𝘽𝙧𝙞𝙙𝙜𝙚 shows what it looks like when it has been lowered for trains to cross. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸? Basically, it’s a heavy duty pulley system. Each tower houses two 200-horsepower motors and two 16’ diameter, 34-ton sheaves. Each sheave is connected to the span of the bridge by 10 steel cables. Built in 1935, rehabilitated in 2003, the 𝘾𝙖𝙥𝙚 𝘾𝙤𝙙 𝘾𝙖𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙍𝙖𝙞𝙡𝙧𝙤𝙖𝙙 𝘽𝙧𝙞𝙙𝙜𝙚 was once the longest𝙑𝙚𝙧𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝙇𝙞𝙛𝙩 𝘽𝙧𝙞𝙙𝙜𝙚 in the world, with a 544-foot/166 meter span. As of 1959, it is the second longest lift bridge in the United States. Visible from the Bourne Bridge, while crossing the Cape Cod Canal onto Cape Cod, the 𝘾𝙖𝙥𝙚 𝘾𝙤𝙙 𝘾𝙖𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙍𝙖𝙞𝙡𝙧𝙤𝙖𝙙 𝘽𝙧𝙞𝙙𝙜𝙚 is probably one of the Cape’s most iconic structures.
