“pace yourself,” said your boyfriend with a lit cig, “ten minutes.”

the small acres of warehouses line up similarly to the suburbs. under the poorly lit up path, you ran on command, looking behind to see chuuya walking in a different direction. you didn't know where exactly he was going or what his plans were, but you didn't let that thought distract you for much longer.

prying eyes follow your body language—it told him you were brittle, anxiously waiting for the time to run up. his cigarette long abandoned in the ashes of mist. “seven!” you hear him shout, the fog limiting your vision greatly. shit, you didn't know where to look. every alley, narrow or wide, served a purpose for chuuya, and an indisputable amount of junk covering his back.

the rustle of air leaves you stranded in your place, the cold giving you a blanket for the foreseeable future. forcing your legs to function, you knew that being found in a maze of clutter and perfectly aligned buildings was akin to zero—for a normal person. chuuya nakahara was not a normal person, in mafia territory. “six,” he resumed, “clock's ticking sweetheart.”

again, with the yelling! “i k-know!” you stammered, cursing in your head for your fumbling composure. the five minute mark was near and you're already losing. “baaabe!” chuuya sniggered, “don’t run! oh no, honey, ‘lemme catch up!” a laugh echoes through the isolation, footsteps mingling with yours in the white abyss—closer—that's it, you ran. without looking back, shoes cackle the pavement below.

his closeness had you thinking, wasn't he supposed to wait ten minutes before starting his chase? asking right now was a big leap of faith considering you're the prey. “fouuur!” he sang from afar. taking your chances you halt, heart pounding as loud as his steps that trail after the path you winded. “moving is crucial, doll.” his face finally catches up to his voice. even through the gloom, white couldn't water away the colors painted on the canvas.

your shoulders were hunched, backing away step by step as he redrew every erasure with his black leather shoes, the ink messy and spattered compared to your light and neat lines. “is it three now?” you were keen in your crumbled resolve, questioning things now did you no good, but chuuya always liked to be challenged. he tapped his chin, arms crossed like a curious child, “hmmm, i'd saaay closer to... two.”

great. so it was still three—“why aren't you waiting at the car then?” you popped your tongue, biting the flesh after you blurted out your ah-ha! thought. he doesn't answer, alternatively showing a tight-knit smile that got you into his bed in the first place. a quick turnaround would've shown you that was the end. no more running.

it took you approximately ten minutes to reach the fence that cuts off a cliff from the sea crushing rock. ten minutes for you to corner yourself, and fall in line to your beloveds’ predictions. his lips move, too slowly for your comfort, “one.”

saw you were looking for crit on your arcana oc and thought i’d weigh in as someone who also struggled with recreating the arcana style. the first thing that stuck out to me as being different from the arcana style was the brushes you used, your lineweight and the shading.

the arcana game uses a pretty distinct brush set which was once available by a user called like savenkey or something?? you might be able to find the brush set just by looking around online but it definitely comes in handy when getting that slightly textured & tapered linework. as it currently stands, your lines are quite thin, made of a pretty smooth brush, can be a teensy bit wobbly in some places and dont have any tapering towards the ends. to make this close to the arcana style i’d recommend upping the thickness a little bit (if you’re struggling with space between pixels just bump up the canvas size a bit) and increasing the amount of stabilisation. the tapering could potentially be done by hand (ie erasing the ends of lines to make them thinner) but it’s super time consuming so i’d recommend just using the arcana lineart brush (on a side note, if you don’t manage to find the set but are still interested i could try work out how to send them over?). another thing to note when drawing lineart is that the arcana game uses a lot of sharp edges, especially around the elbows, jawlines and fabric folds, don’t be afraid to thicken those approaching edges up, just to create a spike where the two lines intersect

as for the shading, the whole brush thing also comes into play as the arcana style shading brush has a bit of roughness and is on a slight angle, that’s what creates these areas on the in-game sprites. i can also see you’ve begun to alternate between hard and soft shaded edges but i think a few harder, more definitive edges would help it look closer to in-game art. the arcana shading is also all done in a pale lavender colour on a multiply layer. it looks like you’ve done it on the face but it’s also the case for the rest of the body and clothes too & really helps make that distinctive arcana vibe. it can definitely be difficult shading curly hair and i also struggle with it, but curly haired ingame characters (especially those with shorter hair) do still have big blocks of highlights, doing one big swathe across the side of the skull would better mimic the style, with additional smaller highlights (sometimes less is more) to denote extra curls

and then a few extra details that might come in handy:

- the arcana game uses a textured overlay over their characters’ images, i don’t know if this is the exact one they use but it definitely works! slap it over your character as a clipping mask with the overlay layer filter (you might need to lighten or darken the grey to ensure it doesn’t mess with your characters colours too much) and then just drop the opacity to wherever you think looks best

- (as far as i’m aware) all arcana characters have fingernails drawn on, adding some to your character (whether they’re painted or not) might be a nice touch

- no matter how small or thin, generally all smaller details like tassels/string ties/jewellery or other metal details are all given lineart and coloured, the details are such a pain in the arse to draw but it definitely makes the final look worth it imo

- i’m not 100% sure how you’ve drawn on the blue details but in-game, they’re usually drawn using a screen layer with slightly lowered opacity over both the colour and lineart, and some of the edges are slightly shaded out

however, as far as art style mimicry goes i can’t recommend bast_art13’s tutorials enough, i’m not entirely sure if they’re still active in the community either (i was mainly active in 2020 and have only just started crawling back in💀) but their tutorials are still up on tumblr i think (somewhere). they really break down how the arcana artists draw faces/facial features and explain recurring stylistic choices, for example, how metal is shaded

anyway! that was a lot and i do want to say that you’ve made a really brilliant effort, the style is really difficult to emulate and the way you’ve drawn your oc is really nice!! you did so well, especially when seeing the improvement between this one and your previous drawing. and ofc it’s needless to say i’m a stranger on the internet, take what i say with a pinch of salt or just completely ignore the bits you think are stupid if you want ! it’s a perfectly acceptable response to unwanted pieces of criticism :]

while i’m here i also want to say that i’m obsessed with ur valdemar fanart + you’re doing the lords work with the amount of content you make for them. with that aside, good luck on your future drawings in the arcana style!! i’m sure you’ll do great & apologies if my handwriting was unreadable! also if you have any further questions feel free to ask :3

Because there’s such a contrast between the way Louis was portrayed in 2015 and 2016 for example vs. today, with partyboy Louis (the Louis who’d get papped with girls and had articles written about how many women he’d taken to his hotel room) being replaced by this almost blank canvas. Perhaps even a blank canvas for people to project their own feelings of desire onto. Yes the media have mentioned his ‘girlfriend’ in interviews and such (before the break-up was announced) but in general his image is mostly of someone who is sexually-unavailable. He’s not marketed as someone desirable and that’s likely a conscious decision, his focus is on the music and that’s totally fine. I also think partly it helps him retain some kind of ambiguity around his sexuality which, understandable! Do what you need to do!

I don’t fully agree with you on this. I don’t think there’s any space with the sexual projections on Louis. For instance, I’ve never seen a y/n x Louis in my life EVER. Even the simple fact Party Boy downright ended up with a kid seems very categorical to me. They didn’t give you the multiple one night stands, the multiple dating rumours, the multiple public partners. He’s the guy who settled down with a girl at 18, broke up, lost the track for a couple of months and coincidentally in that time had a child with a social parasite girlie (what are the chances of this happening in reality omfg) and then went back to the usual gf. He’s not a blank canvas on this topic.

It should tell a lot the fact his own fans perceive him more as a big brother/bestie whom they like to call daddy when he shows a bit of his powerful boss aura. It’s probably an age issue too now. There’s a lot of difference between Louis, who is approaching 32 and the average fan (usually barely 20). And now that I think about it, this could explain why they tried to introduce the latest stunt. She was young, same age as a normal Louis fan, probably into the same stuff too. I’ve never thought it could be a way to reconnect with his fanbase and I’ll have to sit on this and think, but it’s just a possibility at this point lol

The thing is it didn’t work they way they hoped it would because they have been feeding people another Louis for ages. Yes, he was the menace with the best sex innuendos, they took that away. Yes, he was possibly the biggest flirt, they took that out of the brand. And that’s what you have now an insanely hot young man who has potentially every skill to be the daddiest mf in the biz who never talks about sex or shows any interest in it. The contrast with Harry is soooo striking. Like you don’t have a single song in Harry’s entire discography where there isn’t a sex related whatever. Music videos, interviews, just in general the things he says or does (pleasing everyone?)

It’s the polar opposites agenda.

Forgive Me, My Artist

Characters: Diluc/Zhongli x GN Reader

Warnings: Mentions of a fight/yelling, reader crying/storming off, hurt/comfort

A/n: Okeyy so I wrote this in sort of an androgynous way, so basically you can picture either Diluc or Zhongli as the character, whichever you prefer!! (Just imagine Zhongli is doing too much overtime at Wangsheng, even tho wbk he would be outta there the minute his shift ends❗)

Again. It happened again. That stinging feeling in his chest, he always felt regret and guilt flood over himself after watching you storm out of the room, choking back sobs of sorrow. He knew you were right, that he was working way too hard and kept on neglecting you.

He always felt bad when he came back home to a dark house, with the rest of the dinner you had cooked for the both of you, now sitting cold on the stove with a little note: “make sure you eat as much as you need! :)”. He would finish it up gratefully, and enter your dark shared room, seeing the covers rise at your spot of the bed, you seemingly sleeping peacefully. He didn’t know however, that you would never be able to sleep without knowing he had made it home safely, so it was only when you felt the sudden rush of cool air under the covers and his big arms wrap around your torso, that you would finally close your eyes.

Unfortunately, it had all been too much for you and he knew you were right. It was now the third time you had stormed off after confronting him about overworking himself and this time, he would set out to make things right. He left the room you had ran out of and looked down the hall to see a faint light coming from under a door. Curiously, he pushed it open and gasped in surprise at the sight before him.

Through the large windows of the room, the sun shined bright, casting a shadow behind the easel you painted on. The tear stains on your cheeks were visible, but he paid them no mind when he saw your soft, serene smile as your brush traveled across the canvas. He panned around the room to find hundreds of paintings hung on the walls, at least a few dozen of them being portraits of him. All done by you. He turned back to you, to see you with a bright blush, hiding yourself behind the canvas.

“[Y/N]… They’re beautiful! All of them!” He ogled at the hundreds of painted canvases.

“D-Do you like them? The portraits, I mean. I hope it isn’t creepy…” You muttered, embarrassed.

“Of course not! But… Why me, of all subjects?” He questioned, not comprehending why someone like you would take interest in painting such a boring subject as him. Wordlessly, you stood up from your seat, setting down your supplies. You walked over to him and buried your face in his shoulder.

“I paint to destress, and… I just think you’re beautiful.” You murmur. Surprised, the man chuckles and wraps his arms around you, his own blush now starting to rise.

“And by the way, I’m sorry for storming off… I don’t like yelling.” He apologizes in return, planting a kiss on your head.

And also bc I like the definition of the brushes when I work on something that big. I guess that's a coping mechanism I learned after I noticed my first few digital drawings I posted here looked pixelated af when seen anywhere other than a phone 💀 (the canvas was incredibly small lmao)

1000% no questions asked, canon Steve and Bucky are going as each other. Steve will be a little traumatized when Bucky somehow comes up with his Actual athentic WS mask and puts it on him but he gets over it the second it makes Bucky laugh rather than have a panic attack or cry or something horrible like that and just says he looks dumb and squished with it on instead. And Bucky, Bucky will be laughing a lot that night because he either a) stole the original stage Captain America uniform from the exhibit at the Smithsonian or b) found a criminally good dupe for it somewhere and Steve doesn't actually know which. Idea b is more promising though because he's not quite sure Bucky would fit into that costume with how Big he is now. Serumed up and a bit chunkier than he was even in Romania. Bucky's laughter gets even better worse when Sam sees them and clicks his tongue, looking at the silver, body safe paint on Steve's exposed arm. Turning tail only to come back with two rolls of aluminum foil and wordlessly begin wrapping him up.

Shrunkyclunks... oh shrunkyclunks, Steve's little baby could bat his eyelashes at Steve or sass him a little and Steve will Bend. To. His. Every. Whim. So, Steve ends up in a somewhat slutty cut, horrible version of his Cap suit while Bucky hangs- literally hangs, because Steve's that strong, off of his arm in one of the chorus girls outfits. Complete with pumps, stockings, and panties. They don't make it to the private party at Stark Tower.

I'm including alpha Bucky and omega Steve because even though I don't write them often enough to have a particular world for them... I CANNOT get the idea of big, pretty omega Steve in a cheerleading costume out of my head. Like. Short but high waisted skirt. Crop top. Maybe a bow in his hair, no wig though, just a pretty little bow. Color high on his cheeks all night as he giggles and blushes his way through every interaction. Any time they sit down Bucky, dressed as a star quarterback, pulls the blonde to sit in his lap or sit with his legs over his lap.

Can you tell I have a bit of a fixation with that? ^ CE in pink, in drag... I just- I'm damned with the bisexuality and he too pretty.

I think Chris and Seb would go as something silly that ends up being romantic and real simply because you can really tell they actually, genuinely love it. They genuinely are in love. They both sang that song from Grease in different interviews so... maybe there's something there? (Idk what exactly though, it's been a long time since I've seen the movie haha.) Some characters from a cherished movie, play, or other form of performing media because they do fucking Love their jobs. Or, or- if they're at a private, friends party where the group is tight knit and they can know for sure that no one will take pictures or say anything... they'd go as Steve and Bucky. Particularly WW2 Steve and Bucky, Chris going as far as to actually shave for the event because their first time meeting and interacting and falling in love will always have a special place in their hearts. And because not shaving and just breaking out the last Cap suit that was Chris' wrap gift felt too easy- even if nomad Steve has a special place in his heart.
