Early morning saw us get on a bus to Ha Long Bay. Our ‘happy house’ / potty break was at an embroidery workshop/market. Knowing there would be a sales push, we stopped and chatted with the sales attendant as he introduced us to a young gentleman embroidering a beautiful picture. He was mute and deaf. Most of the people embroidering were handicapped. The gentleman showed us photos of his completed work; each one taking several months. I did leave with one stunning piece. Very pleased with my negotiated purchase. . We had a delicious lunch on the boat around Ha Long Bay. They kept bringing dishes out! . When was the last time you felt deeply connected to #nature.. Where you actually felt elevated few meters above the land.. and still felt only a few inches away from the sky.. where rain clouds accompanied you and you breathed the same cold air as they did.. where birds flew quite below than where you stood.. making you believe that earth is not just a planet where life exists.. but also is a sublime example of the miracles of the universe.. This place nestled near the border between the states of Pahang and Selangor in Malaysia was actually somewhat similar.. It made me feel more connected to the purpose of my life..from where I could still see human race far away, much inconsequential and minute, appearing and disappearing on the highway that passed through the gigantic vegetation cover!

Test: Old Tamron Lens vs. New L-Series Canon Lens

My senior year at MECA I was in serious need of a new lens...at the same time I was also a broke college kid. After my quick realization that I had no money and some quick research, I ended up buying the ever-so-affordable Tamron XR DI 28-200mm lens . At the time I had my 4 year old Canon 5D and the Tamron seemed like the perfect fit for my budget and my camera.

Ive been shooting with that lens for the past 3.5 years...and for the most part it has been a great lens. With the Canon 5D I wasn't able to print that large (with only 12 mega-pixels) so I never realized how soft the focus actually was! I just recently upgraded to the Canon 5D Mark ii (the Mark iii was really going to break the bank)...and that's when I realized I was yet again in serious need of a new lens. Last week I printed a 16x20 from a recent shoot with the Tamron...and I was not happy with the results at all.

That night, I did some more research, realized I was still pretty broke (but not as broke as my college days) and purchased the Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM Lens.  The images above are of some shots I just took of my backyard and inside my apartment...just for a quick comparison...I guess I needed to know that I made the right financial decision.

And now I know...gotta stick with Canon L-Series Lenses.

A hill-station that has everything you need, from hotels to shopping malls to theme parks to casinos. Perched on the peak of Mount Ulu Kali some 1,800 meters high, it's a 60 min drive from KL city centre and this view that you see in the picture is the first stop (Chin Swee Temple) when you take the cable car from the cab drop-off point at the Genting Skyway. It has breathtaking views of the serene vegetation of Selangor and if lucky enough, you'll get totally mesmerized by the clouds passing through you, thereby turning the entire surroundings cold and whitewashed!
