Jim Belushi: Advocating for Cannabis as a Healing Tool
"Cannabis isn't just a plant; it's a source of healing and connection," says Jim Belushi, the beloved actor and musician known for his heartfelt performances and vibrant personality. Beyond Hollywood, Belushi has embraced cannabis not just for its commercial potential but for its ability to transform lives. As a passionate advocate, Belushi sees parallels between his craft as an actor and his mission as a cannabis farmer. Both, he believes, have the power to uplift spirits and promote wellness. This post explores his journey into the cannabis industry and highlights his belief that cannabis should be used to heal rather than simply for profit.Healing and Uplifting: The Intersection of Cannabis and ArtBelushi often draws comparisons between acting and cannabis cultivation. He notes that both pursuits are designed to make people feel better. At the Benzinga Cannabis Capital Conference, he shared, “You want them to leave the theater feeling better than when they arrived.” He sees cannabis in the same light—more than a product, it’s a tool for enhancing well-being.His passion for the plant stems from its medicinal properties. He emphasizes that cannabis can alleviate pain, enhance happiness, and promote general well-being. For veterans suffering from PTSD, Belushi believes cannabis could be a much-needed alternative to alcohol and harmful coping mechanisms.

A Mission Beyond Profit: Growing Belushi's FarmBelushi’s cannabis venture is deeply personal and mission-driven. In 2019, he founded Belushi’s Farm in Oregon, where he cultivates various strains of cannabis aimed at healing and uplifting others.“I’m not in it for the money; I hope to break even. I already have my money from television,” Belushi asserts, making it clear that profit is not the motive behind his business. Instead, his focus is on the therapeutic potential of cannabis.Belushi’s mission is even more personal when he reflects on his late brother, John Belushi. He believes that if cannabis had been more widely accepted as a treatment option, his brother might still be alive today. This sentiment drives his passion and fuels his dedication to advocating for the plant.Growing Belushi: A Reality Show with HeartBelushi’s journey into cannabis farming is documented in the Discovery Channel series Growing Belushi. The show follows him, his family, and his team as they tackle the challenges of running a 93-acre cannabis farm along the Rogue River in southern Oregon.Beyond the technical aspects of cultivation, the show highlights the familial bonds and community connections formed through a shared passion for cannabis. The series has also helped Belushi expand his reach—his products are now sold in 14 states, a testament to his mission-driven approach.

Cannabis for the Greater GoodBelushi’s advocacy for cannabis extends beyond his farm. He firmly believes that cannabis serves a higher purpose, particularly in medical treatments for severe conditions like PTSD. His farm’s focus is not just on creating products but on raising awareness about the plant’s therapeutic potential.By promoting cannabis as a tool for healing, Belushi hopes to change the narrative around its use. Rather than viewing cannabis as merely a recreational drug, he encourages people to see it as a source of genuine relief for those in need. The Future of Cannabis: Healing, Connection, and CommunityJim Belushi’s journey in the cannabis industry is more than a business story—it’s a story of healing, connection, and compassion. Through his farm, public appearances, and reality series, he continues to share his vision that cannabis should serve the greater good.As the world’s perspective on cannabis evolves, Belushi's work reminds us that this remarkable plant holds the potential to transform lives. His story is not just about cannabis—it’s about empathy, healing, and contributing positively to the well-being of others.Join Jim Belushi's Mission! If you believe in the power of cannabis as a healing tool and want to support Jim's journey, join his Facebook page: Belushi's FarmTogether, we can spread awareness and foster a community dedicated to healing and connection!

Cannabis for PTSD May Be Helping
Tumblr media
UBC Study Connects Cannabis with Lower Rates of PTSD – LPC
People who use cannabis for PTSD (post-traumatic stress syndrome) tend to have fewer depressive episodes and suicidal thoughts. In fact, researchers concluded that PTSD sufferers who didn’t use cannabis were “far more likely” to have major symptoms. “Among the cannabis-non-using population, there was a strong association between having PTSD and experiencing these indicators of severe mental distress,” Stephanie Lake said. Lake is the lead author on the paper, published in the Journal of Psychopharmacology. Those who did not use cannabis for PTSD (or even recreationally) were seven times more likely to have a depressive episode. Further, they were five times more likely to have suicidal thoughts. Lake stressed that this study is not conclusive. Although the results are dramatic, the researchers haven’t proved that cannabis for PTSD is a clear treatment. “However, this is the first time that results from a nationally representative survey have shown the potential benefits of treating the disorder with cannabis,” she said. The BC Centre on Substance Use and University of British Columbia (UBC) conducted the research.
Further Research into Cannabis Needed – LPC
Lake said further research is needed to confirm cannabis is an effective treatment. That research is already underway. However, Lake mentions in a press release that the study revealed people are self-medicating, using cannabis for PTSD. That’s where the catch-22 is. People are self-medicating because they can’t get an expert opinion. They can’t get an expert opinion because the experts don’t know enough. Getting a cannabis prescription is still difficult because doctors do not understand the risks and benefits of cannabis as a medical treatment. Recently, the Canadian Medical Association Journal questioned the medical cannabis risks and benefits. In the US, the US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) has to approve all cannabis cultivation for research use, and that takes a lot of time. Meanwhile, stories about cannabis addiction and cannabis vomiting syndrome show that negative side effects are possible. This research into cannabis for PTSD is encouraging for two reasons. For one, we can learn the direct benefits and risks for current sufferers. For the other, more, positive cannabis research can only be a good thing.
