Cannabis — An Overview
Drugs... don't do them, kids! But if you find yourself in a position where you need to write about them (or just want to know), then this post a good place to get basic information about marijuana, and a solid jumping off point for more research.
Cannabis and Marijuana — Definitions
Marijuana: dried buds and leaves of Cannabis sativa plant. Anywhere between green, brown, and grey. Contains more than 400 chemicals, including delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, the plant's main psychoactive chemical.
Hash: dried resin or tar of the female plant. Dark brown or black chunks, commonly sold in tinfoil packages.
Hash Oil: one of the purest forms of cannabis. Made of cannabis extract, which is a sticky, oily, reddish-brown to green substance.
Cannabis Consumption
Marijuana can be smoked in small pipes, or the more advertised variants, cigarettes called joints. It can also be baked into numerous foods. Hash is usually mixed with marijuana and/or tobacco and smoked. Hash oil is more commonly spread on the rolling paper of a joint, or the end of a lit cigarette.
How Marijuana Affects You
The effects of marijuana are shorter when smoked, from between 2–4 hours, along with the fact that they kick in faster. If eaten, the drug affects the body at a slower pace and for longer.
Marijuana affects everyone differently, and there is no way of predicting the effect of THC from person to person. The effects are dependent on the consumer's mood, environment, age, past or current medical conditions, the presence or lack of other drugs or alcohol in the system (including medication), among other things.
List of Effects
Most people
relaxed
talkative
giggly
increased appetite
distorted sense of time
short term memory impairment
Some People
self-conscious
irritable
anxious
insomnia
depression
paranoia (overly suspicious, feelings of persecution)
decrease in motivation and interest
Few People
flashbacks
delusions (false convictions held contrary to fact)
clouded mental process
impaired thinking
confusion
Young people report that chronic, or daily, use of marijuana can lead a person to experience all of these effects.
How You Get High
The active ingredient of the weed, the THC, binds to the nerve cells and releases dopamine into a part of the brain that controls learning and memory (cerebrum) and integrates the senses with emotions and motivations.
Additional Information and Final Note
Marijuana clashes badly with prescribed drugs, such as anti-depressants
In rare cases, a connection with the onset of serious mental illness such as schizophrenia has occurred
People with schizophrenia have an almost 'allergic' reaction to marijuana, and those with (certain) mental illnesses (commonly) have bad experiences with cannabis
People suffering from certain health problems, side effects of cancer/AIDS, etc. report that marijuana is helpful for controlling pain and other symptoms
This post is by no means claiming to be true for every circumstance. Everyone is different, and I'm sure people have personal stories that prove contrary to the information presented here. That's to be expected, as the effects of drugs on the humans body depend on many variables and are highly unpredictable.
With that said, if anything is wrong, please let me know immediately and keep in mind that my information is directly from Interior Health BC, which has a cannabis fact-sheet compilation that I'll link here.
I hope this helped anyone who needed it, and informed the rest of you. Stay safe :)

Latest for The LA Times
You’re making history today. You’re at the first State Fair in the world where cannabis is being legally sold.”
Last month, the California State Fair announced plans to allow cannabis to be sold and consumed on-site for the first time in its 170-year history.
“Welcome to 4:20 for the first time legally at the fair!” someone yelled into the microphone. “Light ’em up!” Everyone in the tent obliged, inhaling deeply and then exhaling one very large — and now very legal — communal cloud of smoke into the air. (Adam Tschorn)

Before weed was legalized here, we used to have an ice cream truck that drove around playing the imperial march from star wars in the wrong key. 100% it was selling weed and pills
See, that just sounds fun. lmao
We have people that dress up as Darth Vader and Stormtroopers and I see them in like... every parade, it feels like. I see them at Pride. I see them at the Fourth of July parade. I don't know why they're there, but I'm always happy to see them.
I feel like I'd feel that way about a weird ice cream truck that plays the imperial march and sells weed. I don't know why they're there, but I'm always happy to see them. lmao
#replies#tbh that's a business idea right there lmao#the ID part might be difficult but#are we truly a free country until we have a combination ice cream/weed truck#I spend a few months a year in Mendocino County so I'm picky about my cannabis consumption now#but I bet you could get banger weed from some bougie hipster weed/ice cream truck in california

FTC/FDA Send Letters to THC Edibles Companies Warning of Risks to Children
Earlier this week, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) sent cease-and-desist letters to several companies warning them that their products, which were marketed to mimic popular children’s snacks, ran the risk of unintended consumption of the Delta-8 THC by children. In addition to the FDA’s concerns regarding marketing an unsafe food additive, the agencies…

Puff Puff Pass the Wisdom On… Tips for the Youngins from a Stoner Parent
We know you’re doing it. We’ve been doing it since before you were an itch in your daddy’s pants. Oh, and we know all about hiding it. We’re a generation programmed to hide everything but the house keys. Fuck, we’re still hiding from you. But if you’re hiding from us, well, you’re basically already busted. Newsflash: Stoner parents have weedar. We don’t just have a nose for it. We know the signs; we know the spots and we know what’s suss.
Need some pro tips on staying undercover? Take ‘em from us.
Ditch the Fabreze
Masking the smell of your stash with sprays, candles or any other stupid scent is the first sign of a bad cover-up.
Also, flavoured vapes – forget it! The first whiff of that sweet foreign fragrance is telltale kids.
Don’t b-line to the bathroom
We know you’re washing up after a sesh and we’re already onto you.
Instead, walk in with a friendly hello, walk toward us, then stop a bit short to avoid osmosis (at least 4 feet). The key is to act natural – this always throws us off.
Smoking outside in the cold is a tricky one
Facts. Smoking in the cold makes your smell extra extra when you come inside (like from a mile away). If you need to know why, google it!
Smoking in the car is an even trickier one
Firstly, don’t smoke and drive. But in the case that you’ve left a lingering smell of pot or smoke in the car, nothing beats a drop or two of gasoline on floor to clear that right up. If it’s someone else’s car, make sure to fill up a bit before returning, then mention you spilled some gas on your shoes…
Deny Deny Deny
There’s an art to this one. When you’ve been caught red handed, the best denial does not include gaslighting tactics like, “I don’t know what that is” or cliché excuses like, “I’m holding it for a friend.” You’ve been caught, but you haven’t been busted. Go for the heartstrings with something like, “I was planning on trying it for the first-time last weekend, but I chickened out,” or “I tried it and I didn’t like it, but I didn’t know what to do with it.” We’ll feel for you, I promise. Fake news works well here.
Hide with care
Smell-free containers are not for the faint of fine-motor-skills, but they are the best way to keep your stash concealed from prying eyes and noses. They’re also relatively parent-proof, since the majority of stoner parents are still buying black market and don’t have the patience to figure out how to unseal Gestapo packaging.
Bust your parents before they bust you
Nobody is more taken down by being busted than the “hiding generation.” Those are us parents born between 1969 and 1980. But once we’re outed, you can pave the way to a much more balanced parent-child stoner relationship.

gummies and giggles // alexia putellas
a/n : i can’t imagine alexia putting up with a high person, but oh well.
warnings : cannabis consumption, fluff.
The Airbnb was charming, just as Alexia had promised. Nestled beside one of Amsterdam’s quiet canals, the house had tall windows that flooded the space with soft light, a cozy living room with fluffy blankets, and a kitchen that Mapi claimed was “too nice not to mess around in.” For Alexia, it was perfect—clean, organized, and peaceful.
For you and Mapi, it was the perfect place to cause trouble.
It all started innocently enough. Mapi had brought up the idea after lunch while Alexia was preoccupied with a book and Ingrid was scrolling on her phone. You were sprawled on the floor near the couch, making exaggerated sighs about being “bored out of your mind.”
“Amsterdam is the city of adventure, no?” Mapi grinned, her voice low as she nudged you with her foot.
“What kind of adventure?” you asked, perking up immediately.
Mapi reached into her jacket pocket and pulled out a small plastic baggie, shaking it slightly to reveal the colorful gummies inside. “Just one each,” she whispered conspiratorially. “We’ll have a little fun.”
You blinked, leaning in closer. “What is that?”
“Edibles,” she replied as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
You squinted at the bag, skeptical but intrigued. “Is this a good idea? Ale will kill me.”
Mapi grinned mischievously. “When have I ever steered you wrong?”
You paused. “Well, there was that time you convinced me to jump into a freezing lake because ‘it looked fun.’”
Mapi rolled her eyes. “This will be better. Trust me.”
She held one gummy out, and after a brief moment of hesitation, you took it. “Just one?”
“Just one,” Mapi assured you, popping her own into her mouth and chewing thoughtfully.
———————
Two hours later, it became abundantly clear that you were not fine.
You were curled up on the Airbnb’s soft rug, giggling at absolutely nothing while Mapi sat on the couch, completely mesmerized by the way the light reflected off a glass of water on the coffee table.
Alexia had been in the shower, blissfully unaware, but when she stepped back into the living room and saw the scene before her, she froze.
“What the fucks is going on here?”
Ingrid, who had only just come out of the bedroom after a nap, groaned loudly as she took one look at you and Mapi. “Are you two serious?”
“Hi, Ale,” you said brightly, turning your head toward her. Your face was flushed, eyes glassy, and you were grinning like you’d just heard the funniest joke of your life.
“Don’t ‘Hi, Ale’ me,” Alexia replied, crouching down beside you. “What did you do?”
You squinted up at her like she’d asked the hardest question in the world. “I had a gummy. It was so tiny, Ale. Like…” You held your fingers close together, demonstrating its smallness.
Alexia stared at you, her expression flat. “You took an edible? Are you serious?”
“Mapi said it would be fun,” you replied innocently, smiling as you leaned toward her. “And I am having fun.”
Alexia turned sharply toward Mapi, who was still staring at the glass of water like it held the answers to the universe. “And you?”
Mapi looked up slowly, blinking at Alexia like she’d forgotten she was even there. “Did you know… water is just really tiny pieces of ocean?”
Ingrid smacked her hand against her forehead. “Oh my God.”
Alexia ran a hand through her hair, clearly trying to keep her patience intact. “You two are ridiculous.”
You tugged at Alexia’s sleeve, looking up at her with your big pleading eyes. “Don’t be mad at me.”
Alexia sighed deeply as she sat down on the floor beside you. You immediately crawled into her lap, nuzzling your face against her shoulder.
“I’m not mad,” she muttered, though she clearly wasn’t thrilled. “I just don’t understand how you thought this was a good idea.”
“You’re warm,” you mumbled, ignoring her frustration entirely as you melted against her. “And you smell really good. Did I ever tell you how pretty you are?”
Alexia raised an eyebrow, though her hand had already instinctively begun rubbing circles on your back. “Are you always this clingy when you’re high?”
“I don’t know,” you replied honestly, tilting your head up to smile at her. “But you’re warm and soft and perfect and… can I kiss you?”
“What?” Alexia spluttered, her cheeks tinged pink.
Ingrid’s head snapped up, glaring at Mapi. “Do you see what you’ve done?”
Mapi just giggled. “She’s in love. Let her love.”
—————
It wasn’t long before the munchies hit.
“Alexia,” you whispered, still nestled in her lap like you had no intention of leaving.
“Yes?”
“I’m starving.”
“You ate lunch two hours ago.”
“But now I’m hungry,” you whined, pouting up at her. “I need something sweet.”
Alexia sighed heavily as she helped you sit up. “What do you want?”
Your face lit up. “A waffle.”
“A waffle?”
“Yes. A big one. With syrup.”
Alexia gave you a look that clearly said she was done with you, but she still got up and made her way into the kitchen. “You’re so lucky I love you,” she muttered under her breath.
When Alexia returned with the waffle—golden, steaming, and drizzled with syrup—you looked at it like it was the most beautiful thing you’d ever seen.
“Oh my God,” you whispered, carefully taking the plate from her hands. “You’re an absolute angel, Ale.”
She sat down beside you, watching as you took your first bite. The moment the syrup hit your tongue, you let out a moan. soft, drawn-out, pornorgraphic, and very not appropriate for a waffle.
Alexia blinked. “Did you just sex moan over a waffle?”
You paused mid-chew, eyes wide, before you dissolved into giggles. “Noooo,” you managed, grinning as you stuffed another bite into your mouth.
“Yes, you did,” Alexia replied, shaking her head in disbelief. “You’re unbelievable woman.”
“It’s just a really good waffle,” you said, swallowing the bite and leaning into her side. “You need to try it.”
Before she could reply, you kissed her cheek, leaving a faint trace of syrup behind.
Alexia groaned, wiping at her cheek as she muttered, “You’re a mess.”
“I’m your mess,” you replied sweetly, wrapping your arms around her waist and pulling her closer.
She sighed, though there was no real annoyance behind it as she pressed a kiss to your temple. “You’re lucky you’re cute.”
From across the room, Ingrid sighed loudly as Mapi whispered something about the light being “a little rainbow on the glass.”
“We are never doing this again,” Ingrid muttered.
Mapi, still blissfully mesmerized, giggled softly. “Never say never.”
Alexia looked down at you, now curled up in her lap, half-asleep with a satisfied smile on your face.
She shook her head with a small, fond smile. “What am I going to do with you?”
You hummed softly, snuggling closer. “Keep me forever.”
And even as chaos reigned around her, Alexia couldn’t imagine ever letting you go.

Flavored cannabis marketing is criticized for targeting kids
NEW YORK (AP) — When New York’s first licensed recreational marijuana outlet opened last month, the chief of the state’s Office of Cannabis Management, Chris Alexander, proudly hoisted a tin of watermelon-flavored gummies above the crowd. Outside the Manhattan shop, he displayed another purchase — a jar containing dried flowers of a cannabis strain called Banana Runtz, which some aficionados say…

I like edibles more than smoking. The ones I usually get are sativa, but these days i have been saving up for some indica.
saammmee. i used to smoke when i was a kid bc obviously back then weed wasn't legalized not like i would have been legal age but bc it wasn't legalized it was super sketchy buying edibles off dealers bc they could put anything in there.
once it was legalized i switched to edibles. i mostly smoked indica but i didn't realize you can get the different strains in the edibles i feel like by the effects of my edibles they are likely indica
sativa always gets me paranoid lmao i feel much more relaxed on indica

Hospitals must obtain written informed consent from patients before subjecting them to pelvic exams and exams of other sensitive areas — especially if an exam will be done while the patient is unconscious, the federal government said Monday.
New guidance from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services now requires consent for breast, pelvic, prostate and rectal exams for “educational and training purposes” performed by medical students, nurse practitioners or physician assistants.
