Reaching out rather than letting life just go by you....

I think that it is easy for many of us who maybe lack confidence, have experienced too many hardships for our own personalities to handle, or maybe we just lost the ability - if we ever had it - to reach out and talk to others.  To make friends and not just a little 4 walled box we put ourselves inside of because it is what we know and sometimes it is all we trust.

Days go by...months go by...and all of a sudden, years have gone by.  

This is where I am right now.  For many reasons I have just become someone who is existing rather than living.  I am so very blessed to even have the chance to LIVE after so many things.  Somehow, I guess this made me scared of failing to fully do what I feel I should to show my gratefulness for being alive.  Rather than living life to the fullest I somehow turned inward and stopped reaching out at all to others.  I alienated my friends, quit making any plans of any kind for the future (not even for as far off as tomorrow) and I gave up on myself in a way.

I know there are many of us out there - especially since the computer makes it so easy to ignore the needs we actually have for things like friendship and companionship or even some support.

So - I am guessing that many people out there are where I am at...excuses for not leaving the house, not participating in life events, not living up to our own ideas of what we feel we want to do, depression, not taking any pleasure in things we used to - the list is endless. 

 In my case, although I have been through quite a few medical things in life that helped me believe in miracles - especially being a 6 year lung cancer survivor, I guess it became a struggle to live every minute of every day trying to not allow the fear and the questions of “what if” to hit me because then I felt that I was not faithful enough to my own beliefs.  If you do not live your life with other people around you - then you do not have anything expected of you.  You do not have anyone seeing that maybe you are not doing so well.  You have no one who will pry into your mind, your space, your time.   You also lose the connections that might have kept you going in the past and it becomes easy to convince yourself that you are just going to live your life like this...alone (I always just thought of it as in charge of myself and set in my ways).  

Eventually, you realize that you have caused this.  You are alone.  People no longer ask or reach out to see how you are.  You may feel you have lost any ability to reach out to say “Hey - I am still here...”  

I would love to hear your take on this type of self imposed cutting oneself off from life beyond your little safety net of 4 walls or whatever is your version of such.  I would love to hear from people who may be ready to start living again - maybe you don’t have a clue how you will do it (heck...most days I do not) but you just know that you have to do this - that you, yourself, honestly need this to keep going and to be healthy.

I believe this is a far reaching and a far worse problem that adds to depression, worsening of health, and detachment from parts of reality.  It is a lonely hole to be in.
