A scenario where Raf invite you over to read this one book that was actually restricted by the government the moment it was released so there was only one copy of it and he just - casually read them on the couch because he has that book wrapped with other unrecognizable lable so it's safe to just carry it around without getting caught.

You sat between his legs and leaned your back on his chest, feeling the way his chest slowly and steadily raise up and down in order to appear calm (yet his heartbeat stated otherwise) and read the slowly fading yet readable phrases written as you both talked to each other about your opinion regarding the topics written there, even better if the book was a fictional story and you both gave your perspective about this one character.

And Rafayel LOVES IT he loves hearing your opinions on things he's interested on.

After that, the story in the book become the inside jokes between you two, when you were about to do something you know is fucked up, you're going to just say, "Whatever, (character name) is way more fucked up that I am.". Or the both of you just randomly says the memorable quotes from the book as a way to joke with each other.

I think that's beautiful.

the charm of the first two class of 09 games were the balance of satire and realism (which are enhanced by the voice acting) that redeem the 'anti-visual novel' intention too well. class of 09 was fun because we get moments that feel real. there's nicole's arguements with her mom and the conversations between any of the teenagers are time-period accurate despite the cartoonishness

the comedy works because the dialogue flows well. the dark humor and shock value are carefully executed. the edginess works because of the writing knowing its limits

it knows when to be funny (mr lorre meeting up with nicole) and when to take itself seriously (nicole talking about her experience as a myspace escort)

i really think that nicole being a bad person without bigotry (most of the time) is what makes its comedy work.

flipside fails miserably and feels like a disconnection from the other two games. when jecka suffers it's just for the sake of suffering. it isnt like in the other two games where nicole suffers as consequence. honestly, flipside just looks like what class of 09 would be without the proper care it was given. it focused too much on trying to be edgy and funny that it doesnt execute the realism. nicole's mom was written in a way that feels real. her multiple divorces are comedically cartoonish but when she's on screen and voice acted she actually behaves like a real life mother. jecka's dad has none of that. he just says things and yells when he wants to.

#class of 09 #class of 09 flipside #im not wording this right sorry #seriously the comedy was really good #jecka and nicole making karen relapse was funny because it was non-stop over the top and clever #mr katz nearly buying crack from nicole was funny because of the stakes (same with mr lorre)#(tgough mr lorre getting caught was funny because of him introducing himself as high-profile and because of his panic)#can you tell i love the re-up #genuinely the re-up is the best game because of its deviation from the rejection sim intentions #but anyway yeah the nicole-centric games really felt like a comedy about a teenage girl from the late 2000s living her life #which flipside LACKED #things just happen to jecka and thats it
