I just wasn’t happy with my last design. It was too dark for how I was feeling. Lately I love soft pastels and pinks and such, and I saw this design for a simple rainbow.... but then I realized I don’t have a pastel blue or yellow or green....

Originally the pinky was jade green, but the jade polish has a slight translucency to it to give it that jade-like appearance (I presume). I painted over it with a thin layer of white and used my stamping polish yellow-orange instead. Figured it would be a bright pop against the other, softer pink and purple.

I also really don’t like this pink. I love the color of the pink, but it’s actually a ‘gel’ polish. And what I mean by ‘gel’ is it’s not a real gel polish. It’s one of those Sally Hansen ‘gel-like’ polishes where you use a special top coat to ‘activate’ it.

(If you don’t know, gel polish won’t set/dry normally until you let it cure under a UV/LED light for awhile. These polishes supposedly give the look of gel but without having to buy the expensive light to go with it. It also comes off fairly easy.)

My problem with it though is I find it’s VERY thick to put on (which I hear is common for gel polish actually) and for whatever reason the pink I have dries and has bubbles in it even though I haven’t been shaking it. Even drying is a difficult process because it does lay on so thick! I did my nails yesterday and all my other nails (regular polish) dried nice and smooth on top. The gel nail? It took in the lumps and bumps of me putting my hand under my pillow to sleep. :\ Even when it feels dry it’s like clay and just takes in every little indent.

So yeah. Not a huge fan. I do love the color a lot but I just don’t like the quality on my finger. Or, entirely possibly, I’m not doing it right.

Anyway. I’d really like to get more pastel colors. And a dotting tool. The lines on the ‘rainbow’ are poorly done... I don’t have the steadiest hands and not having the proper tools makes it even harder. I COULD technically stamp lines on since I have a plate for that, but as I’ve said before they only seem to like stamping polish specifically.

Which, to be fair, I’ve been eyeing the pastel stamping polish kit from Jelly Stamper... I can deal just fine with the smaller ml bottles. Man... I wish I had a ton of disposable income. All this reminds me why I gave up on traditional art so many years ago. It’s all just so expensive to build up your supplies... for a hobby. I remember the probably hundreds of dollars in birthday and christmas money I would scrape together to build my collection of Copics and Prismacolor markers.... Mostly Prismacolor because they were just cheaper overall, but Copics were loved deeply if I could get them.

It was a sad day when I threw them all out after years of non-use. I had no one to give them to.
