Warnings: slight angst, slight fluff, sweating?, swearing, running?, somebody needs to explain this to me please.

A/N: alright friends, this is the first chapter of a series I’m working on. As you can see, it’s called Tabaco y Brea. If you have any questions, hit me up. I hope you like this, enjoy!

Chapter 1: Stuffy basement

Bogotá was a sight that you had yet to stop being amazed at. Walking through its streets for the first time all those months ago almost brought tears to your eyes. Growing up in the United States and thinking that you may never get out of there gave you little to no reference in this country's culture, although your father being Mexican helped you master Spanish and he showed your way to dance. Early 1981 was not a great year to be in Colombia, but you were here as a DEA agent after all, not as a tourist. You could feel things getting bigger, and you weren't sure how you'll be able to handle it.

As you kept walking, you asked yourself the same question of your everyday life. Why the fuck did you choose to live so far away from the Embassy? 

(You knew the answer, but it didn’t make mornings easier)

The heat made your clothes cling to you with sweat, your hair even in a ponytail was soaked and the headache was just getting stronger the more you walked through the avenue. 

And you were late, dammit!

Your heels could be heard as you started to run to catch the bus, gripping your purse as if life depended on it. With the amount of money they paid you, you could easily afford a car, but attracting that much attention wasn't a great idea. You still couldn't understand how the narcos hadn't managed to get your information. 

The bus was already at the bus stop when you turned the corner, and you didn't know if you could make it. 

"Ey! Ey! Esperen!" (Hey! Hey! Wait!) You started waving your hand towards it, seeing that the last person in line was hopping on. The driver, thankfully, saw you and waited. You started running faster and finally climbed the stairs. It was packed.

 Well, it seemed that you'd go standing.

You seriously didn't think you could get more soaked from the heat, sweat even more than you already were.

You were wrong. 

When you got to the Embassy, the entire back of your shirt was plastered to your body. Your thighs were starting to get grazed because of your skirt and your hair was all frizzy and probably resembled a nest of birds. 

You took a deep breath, tried to fix your hair a little bit, and pushed the door. Nobody even glanced at you, and you were glad. If anybody dared to even look at you funny, you were going to lose it.

"Ey compañera. Mala mañana?" (Hey partner. Bad morning?)

Oh, just what you needed.

"¿Qué quieres Peña?" (What do you want Peña?) you rolled your eyes at him. He didn't look much better than you anyway. His pink shirt was sticking to his chest, even though he had several buttons open, letting you see his wet neck. His face was sweaty too, with rosy cheeks and his hair sticking to his forehead. 

You arched your eyebrow. "No tienes mucho mejor aspecto que yo Javier" (You don’t look much better than I do Javier)

He gave a soft laugh, the idiot. You weren't in the best of moods to handle him, so you turned around and walked to your desk, then sat down with a grump.

"Vamos nena, alégrate un poco" (Come on baby, lighten up a little) you glared at him and started reading through the papers you had to check today. It was usually yours and Javier's, that asshole didn't do any of his own paperwork and you were stuck doing both almost all the time. Carina had given you a weird stare the first time you were ranting about it to her, but you were sure you didn't want to know what she was thinking. It was nothing that you didn't know anyways.

Once he realized you were definitely not in the mood for your usual banter, he stopped and sat down in his desk,at the right from yours. Silence (or as much silence as an office can have) settled and the sounds of sheets of paper turning and Javi working with his typewriter slowly calmed you and helped you concentrate with what you were reading. The fan that barely provided you of fresh air at least served as background noise for the amount of stuff that your mind was processing, and it even cooled you down a little bit. The headache was gone and so was the bad mood. After some time had passed and you weren't sweating as much as before, you asked yourself what on Earth was Javi doing if you had his paperwork at your desk.

"Hey Javi, what are you doing? At least have the decency to offer help!" you said as he turned to look at you. He smiled, noticing your mood improvement. Pulling his chair with him, he crossed the little space between your desks and opened the folder that he had been looking at.

"There's the Bera I know" You tried to hide a smile at the nickname. "I got some intel that could help us with this bullshit"

His voice, all business know, gave you a sense of peace. Even if he was a little shit most of the time, he was the only one who had been with you since you arrived back in 1979. He didn't have much more experience than you back then, had only been in Colombia for a couple of months himself, but he knew his way around better than you. He taught you the things you didn't know, and if neither of you did then you figured them out together. 

"And what is that intel, agent Peña?" you teased him. You weren't oblivious to his ways of fishing out info, of course. He smacked you lightly in the arm and showed you the papers.

"A cottage on the outside of Cali seems to be a type of safehouse for Escobar's merca," he says while pointing at the pictures that were inside the folder "if this is true, we need to do a raid soon, but we have to make sure the intel is right before we take that risk"

The cottage was small, nobody would pay attention to it if they were walking past. It looked like an abandoned house, and you knew that was exactly what Escobar's men were hoping for. Although you were surprised they were stupid enough to have something even remotely close to a city, that didn't sound right.

You nod, "so that means...?"

He looks at you with a glint of mischief in his eyes.

"That means we need to stay for a few days in Cali, nena"

You have to grip your chair to physically restrain yourself from jumping of happiness. You loved Cali, the very few occasions you had free time you took a bus there (9 hours and all) and spent the nights in the dancing clubs. Cali gave you a sense of love and alleviated the homesick feeling that had been nagging you for years. It reminded you of your father even if this wasn't his country. 

"Are you serious? Don't play with me Javi" he nodded.

"You know I don't play with this shit", his voice sounded serious, almost offended.

He knew how much you enjoyed being there, but you also knew he took his work very seriously. In both cases, you doubted he would joke about something like that, but it was almost too good to be true to believe it that easily.

You started to plan things in your head. Where would you stay? Close to the cottage? Close to downtown Cali? Would you have any free time to enjoy the pleasures of Cali nights? You hoped so because if not you were going to explode.

"So when do we leave then?" you look him in the eyes, a grin spread big on your face. 

"It depends", your smile fell. "We have to welcome the new gringo, remember?"

Ugh, yes. You forgot about that. 

"So when does he arrive?" 

Javi shrugged. "I'm not sure, but it will be this or the next week."

You weren't sure if bringing someone else to this shitshow was a good idea. Enough lives have been lost to this war, and you didn't see the point of putting at risk another one.

"Will we take him with us?"

 “He's not very good with Spanish"

Your smile returned, this time for entirely different reasons. "So we're gonna have some fun with him?"

Javi looked at you, amusement in his eyes. He shook his head.

"I don't think that's a good idea muñeca, he's coming with his wife" (doll)

You got the message, even if he didn't say it out loud. He has a family, something to lose. You don't, not really. Besides your own lives, that is. If you want to play Russian roulette with them, it's your problem. But the new guy had someone to come back to.

So, helping the gringo it was.

"What's his name again?" you ask. You had read about him a few weeks back when they told you he was coming. But you didn't even remember he was coming, much less were you going to remember his name.

"Steve Murphy" Oh yeah, it sounded familiar now. "He did his training directly at Quantico, so he must be good"

That you remembered. He was one of those guys who spent the 18 weeks (although you knew they were only 13 if you did it there) of DEA training in Quantico, inside the U.S. Marine Corps Base and next to the FBI academy. They weren't common here, you and Javi had done it elsewhere. 

"So after we pick him up, we plan this shit out, right?"

Javi nodded. "I hope so"

He went back to his desk and you kept going through the paperwork. It was not an easy task, but that one time you made Javier do his own, he had taken so much time to do it that you passed the deadline and the boss ripped you both a new one. After that, you did a silent agreement where you did it all, Javier providing all info necessary and taking the blame if anything was wrong, even if it didn't happen frequently. He'd bring you Colombian coffee when the weather wasn't as hot as now, he knew you didn't like the one at the office and thought it "tasted like dirt", he would listen to you rant about certain reports and say whatever he thought you needed to hear in those moments.

You enjoyed spending your time with him, even if most of it you were arguing about something. 

The day passed rather quickly, with so much to do you didn't even have time to glance at your watch or even the clock hanging in the opposite wall.

Soon, it was time to leave again, but you hadn't finished your work and it was due to a couple of days. You hated doing things just before delivery time, so you decided you were going to stay and work some more. It wasn't like someone was waiting for you anyways.

Half of the work was done, so you weren't going to stay much. Just enough so you could go back and finish tomorrow.

"Ey compañera, hora de irnos" (Hey partner, time to go) Javier sounded tired, and you figured trying to find leads and speaking all day with your superiors was exhausting too. You hated doing the calls, so he took that one for both of you. 

"No me iré Javi, debo avanzar un poco con esto"  (I won’t leave Javi, I need to get ahead with this) He frowned at you, with his beige jacket already in his hands. You figured you looked tired too, all day reading was doing an impact in your eyes.

"What do you mean you're not leaving? You just spent 12 hours doing paperwork, you need to rest"

You sighed. He was right, you knew that, but you wouldn't be able to finish if you didn't stay. 

Seeing he wasn't going to get an answer because you were stubborn and ignored him if you had already made a decision, he hung up his jacket again and pulled his chair close to your desk. Then, glaring at you, he sat down and propped his elbows in the table, letting his face fall between his hands.

A few minutes passed, and you were starting to get uneasy under the power of his stare.

"Javi? What are you doing?"

He didn't answer.

"What?" you asked, defensively. "Do I have something on my face?" 

He shook his head, still not saying anything. 

"Javier!"

He started laughing at your bothered yell, finally releasing you from the pinned look he was giving you. You let out a frustrated sigh, understanding what were his intentions.

"You're gonna glare me into leaving, aren't you?"

His nod was your only answer, accompanied by a grin spread across his face.

The thing about your relationship was that even if you fought almost every day for the stupidest things, he took care of you. He made sure you got rest, ate decent food, got home safe. He protected you in the raids, even if you weren't his main focus. And you did your best to take care of him too, but he wouldn't let you.

At least not like you wanted. 

He would go almost every weekend to search for the love you were so willing to provide for him in other women, in his so-called informants. And it hurt you, more than anything else. 

You smiled at him.

"Let's go"

He smiled too, standing up. You saved your files in one of the drawers, took your coat, and rounded your desk.

Out of the office, everything was silent. The sun had already set, leaving you at the darkness of the night. You checked your watch. It was...11 PM already, damn. You didn't know it was that late.

"I'll drop you off at your home", his voice was soft.

You nodded, not trusting your voice. Everything with Javi was difficult at night. You were looser because of the tiredness, fed up with everything. You wished to be between his arms, it was the only thing you asked for. But you knew you couldn't.

Both of you climbed into his Jeep, and he drove off to your apartment. 

"Why did you choose to live far from the Embassy anyways?"

He had asked the same question a thousand times before, and it was always the same answer. He never looked at you when he said it, his attention straight out the windshield. You couldn't figure out why he kept doing it, no matter how much you tried, no matter how much time you spent thinking about it.

"I wanted to get to know Colombia, not just the stuffy low-rise bunker in the basement of the U.S. embassy."

Once you got to the apartment complex, he parked his car and stretched to open your door. 

"Good night compañera" (partner)

You smiled in response, took your purse and jumped out of the car. Feeling his stare boring into your back as you walked to the door, you got out your keys and turned around. 

Once you waved him goodbye, he bowed his head and turned on the engine leaving with a creak of tires.

"Good night Javi"

Forty One. Part 3

Looking down at my lap shaking my head, she didn’t need to walk off like that. I hate that she is upset, I upset her, but she can be so frustrating, everything that was said and happened is just frustrating “if she leaves this house again I’m gonna be even more angry at her” I said, I hope she doesn’t and she better not “I don’t want you both to get married yet. I don’t want it yet, you both need time. Love is there but it’s too much happening, you know Chris I have had arguments about Ronald too with my kids, but I have learnt to let it go, you can’t protect someone that doesn’t want it, and when I said protect my daughter, I assumed that she would have listened to you, but it has caused drama instead. Please stop, let it go with Ronald, and move on. Do not let this man come between you both, I had to do the same because I couldn’t let my kids feel that way, it caused arguments for me. Ronald will be exposed; he will do it himself. But don’t let that affect you both, but I will leave you both to it, the shouting was unbearable from the both of you but please try to both make up with each other” nodding my head watching Monica get up from the couch, she is disappointed clearly, I don’t blame her at all, a lot of things were said loudly, and I got to stop getting angry so quickly, but I get frustrated at her, but I do love her. I really don’t like Robyn showing her body off either, she knows this. I think it was built up anger from her disappearing on me like that, I was so hurt to know she just left like that when she knows I hate us leaving when we argue, the shit happened to me but what does she know. Clearly Monica wants us to make it up, she knows I do love her, but this is a mess.

I finally got up from the couch, it’s like nobody is coming downstairs since we had the argument, I feel bad that people overheard us too like that, it is embarrassing for me too, I am in their house and doing this to Robyn. This is not good, and they could easily gang up on me, I don’t want to go without Robyn and I speaking on it because I am never ever doing that again, but I shouldn’t be here after that. Her brothers heard us; I am shocked they ain’t come to beat my ass. Walking up the step to leave the living room, I abruptly stopped as I saw Robyn walking to me. I assumed she was going to walk by me but she stopped “you want to go for a drive, I mean I am driving of course” nodding my head “yeah sure, I don’t know how to feel about you driving though. You good?” Robyn turned away from my “I am, trust me” she has some big ass shades on too, I hate that I have upset her like that. I can imagine that her eyes are sore from crying but I don’t like it, seeing her dressed that way out there really got to me, then her being out with no contact. It was all too much for me, so I just let loose, Robyn held the door open for me. She is quiet with me of course; I don’t expect anything more from her. I will apologise for my tone of voice, let’s see where she is taking me though “cute car” I grinned at her Suzuki car, it’s nice for her “get to enjoy the sun and breeze, I won’t kill you. Promise” dragging open the car door.

Robyn has been driving for a while now, she has on the radio and I had to laugh at one point, they played a Rihanna mix, and I am just sat here with Rihanna, but she is a good driver, she is so good at it too. But I mean she does go around the corners fast, but I feel safe with her “I know where we are” I said pointing out of the window “yeah, I want some fish fry again. Also I enjoyed being on the beach” nodding my head “with you” she added “took you a while to say that” looking over at Robyn, the breeze just flowing though her hair, she is in her zone, she is unhappy but she is in her zone and I feel it with her, she is home “can you park?” I questioned “mhmmm” she parked the car with no issues at all “there was plenty of space for you to park in” I pointed out “whatever” I smiled lightly “I ain’t got no sun cream on by the way” opening the car door “I don’t expect anything less from you Chris” stepping out of the car “hi Rihanna” these kids walked by the car and noticed her but they just waved and smiled, walking by like it’s nothing “hey babies, y’all finished from school yeah?” Robyn said “yes we just finished, daddy said we have to go now” Robyn cooed out as she waved them off, I think their dad is not in the mood for their shit.

Robyn and I remained silent with each other, just watching the sea come in and out. It’s beautiful, this beach is very nice, the sun is shining down bright today. I will be pink by the end of this talk, I feel her, she is hurting and of course by me. I just was fed up; I am still feeling that way now. I think maybe I should start this conversation, because she did bring us here so she reached out first, so I think I will start. Squinting my eyes looking over at Robyn, she has shades on she so she can mask her emotions “I know you said I say this a lot recently, but I am sorry Robyn, my intention was to never upset you or hurt you, I never wanted that for you, for us. The way I acted was rude, it was hurtful to you because I was abrupt, I raised my voice, and I shouldn’t have. I should have waited until I was calmer, but I didn’t, and I do regret that. I feel you’re hurting and that is because of me, I don’t feel bad for anything I said besides the point of you being pregnant, you’re not a bad person. It came to my mind, and yeah you drank before, but I wasn’t thinking, it came to mind and yes, it was malicious. I wanted to get one over you, and that for me is wrong. I am sorry, I didn��t mean it, I really don’t Robyn. I do love you so much, I just want you to be protected, I do. When you weren’t home and we argued I was worried, to me this place is foreign, it’s not my home. Neither is Cali for us both, I have been through too much to not care like that Robyn. I had anxiety thinking you was out there; I wish I wasn’t like this but I am. We argued, you left, and you weren’t coming home, I didn’t like it, I was worried. My PTSD was high, then you came back like it was ok, a little drunk and high telling me you were with men, I don’t know these people, they are random men to me” Robyn is crying behind those shades, I don’t want her to cry “I am so sorry Robyn for my behaviour, I need to fix that. I am not a bad guy; I am really not. I am sorry” I apologised again, I do feel so bad about it because that is not me, I just lost my temper.

I really want to hug her, I hate to see her cry “when you walked off and said fuck it, at that point I was angered somewhat that you just walked off. I mean yes, you’re right in that sense that I do know my own father, I do but he’s trying to change. He said he is trying; he will be better for me. Now that I am becoming a wife, he promised to be nice to you and get on with you because he said he loves me. Maybe I am soft but that is me, that is heart” Robyn sniffled “so I left in anger, I was angry at you so yes I went. I didn’t think of your PTSD, I am sorry for that because I didn’t think but I needed space. I went to take my dad to choose a home, we did, and I said that I have a home for mom, this is between us. I just want to do that for my parents yeah, so I did. If he hurts me then it’s my fault, I am sure he will and I am sure you will say I told you so but I was angry with you, I wish you didn’t push me about my dad, yes I want his love. We hung out, we had fun. I did drink, I had weed and had fun because I needed that time, I needed air, I needed some time away from you because you were being too much, ok Chris. I get it, I get the fact I am being stupid but stop it, you just kept pushing and pushing, I just needed it to stop. And you’re right though, I am in no fit state to be pregnant, or even have a baby. I wasn’t thinking” Robyn put her head down and sobbed out, placing my hand on her shoulder “you are, just like you said I was pushing. I should have left it, but I didn’t, I get a little passionate about things. We both young, we both learning about things. We did say we was going to let god guide us, but I just want you to be careful if so, I just get worried about you Robyn, I do. I am protective of you, to the point I don’t want a man to see your parts, I told you this. I disagree to that, but you did it, why?” it’s just wild she did that “I didn’t think about it because I am comfortable in my own body, I am sorry Chris. I wasn’t thinking, it was just so much for me, you kept pushing and it hurt me, you were hurting me along the way with this. I get your view, but he said he has changed, and will change for me” nodding my head “Robyn, your dad ain’t worth this, and I will not let that ruin what we have” this is crazy “I am going to let it go for you Robyn, I will say hi to him and bye to him, that is it, that is for you because this ain’t worth it” shaking my head, Monica is right, Robyn needs to figure out what a snake her dad is on her own, I can’t keep pushing her to see the light when she don’t see it, I want Robyn.

This is a mess, well it’s all a mess “I know you told me about showing my body parts, like my boobs and stuff, I remember that, and I am sorry. It is being disrespectful to you, but I promise you Chris, the men I was with were family friends, I would have never sat there with people I didn’t know, I am being honest with you, like no shouting or crying. The men there were family friends, I know them. Nothing bad happen, I am sorry I didn’t call you, but I felt so pressured, I was fed up. I am trying to make you happy, my dad happy, my mother happy, my siblings happy. All I hear is how one person doesn’t like that, and I feel so much in the middle. I am sick of trying to be between everyone to make them happy, I didn’t think of your PTSD, I didn’t and that is the honest truth. It hurt me so much, to think you assume I am a horrible person and that I am not taking care of myself, yes I am trying to get pregnant but I promise I didn’t harm anything, don’t you think it hurts me that I lost the baby, that it was my fault, I would have been happy with my baby” putting my head down, I hate to hear her cry, it hurts “I ain’t mean it like that, Robyn I adore you so much. You will make a great mother; I can’t wait for that to happen to us. It will make us more united; I accept my faults Robyn. Shouting at you was bad, I wasn’t thinking because I was already angry” looking up at the sky sighing out “I don’t want my dad getting between us, I should keep it separate to us. And keep what happens to myself” clearing my throat “Robyn it’s my bad, I pushed it too much. I will always want to hear you; I want you to tell me things. Don’t just close off on me, if there is issues then tell me, what I learnt from this is that I need to just calm down, I shouldn’t be so passionate about things, I just want us to go back to us, things have been getting a little hectic” it’s just too much “same, I am sorry. I just needed some space” maybe I was being too much.

This food place is nice, I get why Robyn comes here “see what I told you, I said you would be back. You can’t resist my food” Emery pointed “yeah, thank you. I like fish, sometimes but this. It’s beautiful, thank you brother” dapping him as he walked off “you getting used to the locals now?” Robyn said smiling “I do, thank you” I said again as Emery took my plate “I am getting used to it, Barbados is beautiful. I get what you mean, it’s peace” looking at Robyn’ hand, she is staring afar, she is daydreaming. Reaching my hand over, placing my hand Robyn’ hand and she looked at me “I can’t help but say sorry, for shouting at you like that. I just want us to go back to us, I ain’t going back just yet, I think I am going to stay for a few days. I can’t let it lie like that” wrapping my hand around hers “I would prefer if you did, it’s a lot. A lot has happened but this, I wouldn’t let ir break us but I just feel like a lot was getting on top of me, I just didn’t need you to be that too, I like to make people happy, you know. But you, you’re my peace and I wasn’t getting that” nodding my head understanding “I understand what you mean, I pushed it. I should have held off until I was calm but Robyn, don’t ever leave if we argued. I can’t take it, if I lost you. Like what if you crashed the car, it was late Robyn. Don’t do that again” Robyn and I have cleared the air kind of, but I think we need a few days to make up still.

How are the Bees REALLY doing?

Anyone who knows me well--which should be all of you because I just weeded out some of the weeklings on my private story--know that under this hard outer shell I have a soft side that sort of cares about the environment. In order to maintain my douchebag persona, I pretty much only care about “cool” environmental issues at this point. Polar bears, pollution, and pollinators are just a little too kombucha girl for me under normal circumstances, but the quarantine has me unusually curious about wtfgo with the bees. 

Y’all all remember when all the liberals and like, Burts Bees were getting their aerie panties and waxy chapstick in a wad about bees being like an endangered species and dying and shit? Not gonna lie, this got a pretty good grip on my attention. Partially because Anna had a really cool beehive at her house at the time. Partially because the boy who emotionally destroyed me in highschool was allergic to bees, so I wanted to make sure someone was doing something to keep their numbers up. Despite my slight concern, I did what I usually do about these lame environmental issues: not a goddamn thing. Now, with rumors circulating that the bees are doing fine now, I decided to do a little investigating on what the fuck is going on in this weird little niche.

First, I consulted my resident bee guy, Luke Davis, who I happen to know spent the summer going door to door hitting up rich liberals for bee saving cash. How much? The organization he was working for raised $100k in about a month. For fucking what, you might be wondering? Lobbying for NC to pass the Pollinator Protection Act. 

If you google this act, the first thing that is probably going to come up is a Daily Tar Heel article essentially roasting this bill for how dumb it is. Gist of the article is the bill makes no sense because a) bee populations are literally fine and estimated to have increased by like 500,000 hives in the past 10 years and b) it singles out only one type of pesticide that is not even proven to be killing these suckers. What type of pesticide is it? Neonicotinoids. 

Yeah, I know you all had the sudden urge to hit your quarantine juuls after seeing the word nicotine shoved in there. Your instinct was correct. Neonicotinoids are pesticides that kill bugs by fucking up the nervous system in their brain with huge doses of nicotine. Huh? Farmers have been killing bugs with nicotine since the 90s, but the government couldn’t make a fucking decision about whether or not it was bad for us until our generation was already addicted? This is a whole other conspiracy for next week. 

Anyways, PBS says that neonics aren’t simply killing bees, but rather making them a little dumber so that they forget to do important shit like killing off the sick bees before they infect the rest of the colony. Can you really blame those suckers though? Just like us, they went from sharp individuals to irritable little addicts, whose primary concern became when Smoke Rings closed on a Friday night. And this bill wants to ban the use of these pesticides and force them to quit cold turkey? I don’t know about y’all, but I am genuinely afraid to live in a state full of bees who are going through nicotine withdrawals at the same time. 

Who were the four horsemen of this idiot bill? You guessed it, democratic senators from Raleigh, Durham, Charlotte, and Hillsborough. Real Miss Americas these four, with bills like “animal abuser registry” and “continuing education for prisoners” plastered all over their records. Probably wanted this bill as another trophy on their shelf. I guess $100k wasn’t enough to convince them to finish the job though, because this bill has been held up in the state senate for just over a year now. 

Politics and conspiracy theories aside, I really did just wanna know what was up with the bees in the first place. After doing some really in depth research on the topic,

I found some real funny shit. 

The first thing was this Guardian article that opened my eyes to a really weird phenomenon. Apparently the honey business is not super profitable these days, so beekeepers have been boxing up their hives and shipping them across the country to work on almond farms in California. Apparently summer camp on the almond farm is essentially the bee equivalent of Coachella, according to Arizona beekeeper Arp. He says “There can be hundreds of thousands of hives from multiple beekeepers in one staging area. It is like letting your bees go into a singles bar and then have unprotected sex.” Another beekeeper claims that they feel “disrespected” by humans after their summer of love on the almond farm. This guy says “They are in severe decline because our human relationship to them has become so destructive.” Interesting theory sir. The other guy said they just kept coming back with diseases from raw dogging it all summer in Cali, and that’s why they were dying.

The European honeybees (aka the ones that do all of the work pollinating) are literally fine though. I read like three different articles that basically said it was only native species that were endangered. Sure, that is sad, but at least shit is still getting pollinated. 

The story of the “bee war” between European bees and Asian bees has to be my favorite. Basically, the European bees are outcompeting the asian bees by having sexier queens. According to this article, European bees have like better pheromones or something so when the queen says she wants to get fucked and fed, her boys get on that shit immediately. Asian bee’s on the other hand don’t take that shit. If the queen is being too much of a bitch, some of the dudes will just grow some ovaries and start their own fucking colony. This lack of unity has apparently fucked them over pretty hard because European bees have taken over about 80% of their territory. But get this! Apparently the Asian bees are making a comeback because the European bees are such simps that they don’t even have the balls to form a new colony when their queen gets killed by a hornet.

Return to Shadows part 3

Authors Note:

YAY I decided to post it today because I edited it until my eyes hurt! WOOT.......ahaha yeah, well here’s the last of Lores adventures for a bit. I really need to work on some of the other fanfics I have going on. Especially the third story in the Consumed by Shadows series. ( I will be so happy when I can finally reveal the title...;_;) Thanks to those who like these adventures with Lore. I’ll eventually get back to them. And some I’m very excited to share. But I think you guys will enjoy the Ducktales fanfics much more ^^. I’ll do my best to keep my quality up on those, it just may take a bit longer than normal so please be patient. Also, fun fact! Mount Quaksta is actually Mount Shasta in the Duckburg world. Since it takes place in Northern Cali!

Anyways onto the story!

Floating above the world, Lore was high up in the air. The moon hung behind her as she gazed down upon Duckburg.

“Well, now what do I do?” she whispered nervously, wrapping her arms around herself. She didn’t mean to run away from Donald. But it felt like he was treading on dangerous ground and Lore didn’t want to reveal that much of herself to them. She had to keep smiling.

“Keep smiling Lore, You’ve brought so many smiles to other worlds. You can survive anything if you keep smiling..” she repeated those words she heard so long ago.

A buzzing noise from her bracelet caught her attention and once she brought it up the screen appeared before her eyes showing a distorted form of Clix.

“Lore! Can you hear me?!” Clix looked much more haggard than Lore could ever remember seeing the usually calm and cool tech expert.

“Yes, Clix what happened to you?” Lore asked, worried. “You look awful.”

Suddenly a tanned male with green hair, eyes and dressed head to toe with black and green clothes, straps crisscrossing his body and a sword stuck behind him entered the screen. His green hair was much fluffier than Clix’s choppy and angular short haircut. The only way to tell they were twins was their same face.

“That’s what I said.” The male joked with a bright grin.

“Styx…” Clix looked read to murder her brother, before turning back to Lore. “Look Lore. You have a BIG problem over there! Have you found the Wire?”

“The what now?” Lore frowned, tilting her head.

Clix sighed and brushed a hand through her hair. “The Wire. It’s a dangerous beast that is made completely of metal. It……………………wit………………….mag………………and tech……………….I……” Once more her signal was being lost and Lore shook her wrist frantically.

“Clix! Clix I’m losing you again!” Lore yelled, frantic.

The screen stabilized for a second. “Lore…If you can hear me…stop the Wire before it distorts all of that worlds magic and magnetic field. If you don’t….well lets just say that world will be the definition of Chaos. Good luck!” With that, her form sizzled out.

“Don’t tell me that and not tell me what it looks like!!” Lore yelled to her wrist.

Lore did not sleep. She slapped herself to keep herself awake perched on top of a random sky scraper in the middle of town. Suppressing a yawn, she groaned.

Searching the entire night for a Wire was quickly becoming hazardous to her health and she briefly wondered if she should try casting a spell or something. But that idea quickly fled. She was hungry, low on sleep and overall rather lethargic. Yawning again, she slowly closed her eyes only to snap them open at the sound of screams nearby.

Blinking, she glanced around and noticed a Faire within the middle of town. Floating to the ground near it, she hummed. “Oh, right…Donald said something about a Faire…”

An idea popped in her head right as her bracelet made a noise. “Clix! Good timing! I have a couple questions!”

“About the Wire?”

“Nope! What do you know about……Psychics?”

Rushing quickly and out of breath, Lore made it to the fair before the kids. Smirking, she slid through the gates, rushing until she found an empty booth slot. “Hmmm.” She smirked and snapped her fingers. A puff of purple magic revealed a rather large purple tent with the word psychic on the top. “Perfect.” She grinned and walked inside. She conjured pillows and a table with a crystal ball and tarot cards upon it.

“Subtle.” Was Clix’s fractured comment from her wrist. Lore rolled her eyes.

“It’s best to stick with classics Clix!” she spun around, her costume slightly changing. The dress she wore seemed more befitting of a psychic and she wore a couple other necklaces including her own. Her pink hair was up in a pony tail.

“You really think this will work?” Clix asked.

Lore clenched her hands into a fist. “It should. If I can just get Webby to realize that Lena is alive, there might be a chance to save her.”

Clix paused. “You know Lore…this..is technically messing with this worlds path…You realize what you are risking?”

Lore’s pained expression studied the cards upon the table. Brushing her fingers over them, she knew the other was right. “Yes, but the anomaly in this world has already taken Lena’s voice from this world. The Wire is partly to blame.”

Clix sighed. “There’s no changing your mind is there?”

“Nope! Besides all they need is a little push.”

Lore jerked her head as she heard excited voices near the tent flap. She smirked down at Clix, who sighed and vanished.

Lore sat down with a knowing smile, cards held tight in her hands.

Watching the Sunchaser take off from her vantage point from a nearby skyscraper she smiled softly. She had been searching for the Wire since she left the kids. Keeping tabs on how severe the electrical surges were quickly becoming constant. She still hadn’t seen Scrooge, but that was fine. Lore needed some time away from that family. She couldn’t mess anymore within their paths. “I hope you guys can save Lena.” She whispered to the red dot vanishing beyond the horizon. The past few days it had been hard to adjust, but now she had a job to do.

“Clix…what am I looking for?” She asked the girl in blue beyond the screen.

Clix sighed. “Descriptions of the monster are vague. But most state its made from some kind of tough metal and is rarely seen. Some say it looks like a serpent. Some say it looks like a big shiny wire.” She shrugged. “Not much to go on..”

“Great..” Lore hummed and looked around the city. It seemed peaceful enough right now.

Then the sounds of a crash, skidding tires and screams. Lore quickly flew over to a certain intersection and frowned. Making sure to keep herself high above the accident so they didn’t see her flying around. Floating there, Lore frowned. The lights in the intersection were out and several people were standing, yelling at each other.

Then Lore saw it, a spark….a electric discharge from one of the dead traffic lights. Her eyes widened. “The Wire! It must have short circuited the traffic lights! But why…”

Floating up higher where the clouds hung, she pondered this. Crossing her arms, she closed her eyes, thinking.

Bzzzzt.

Opening her eyes, she glanced to the side. Where was that noise coming from?

Suddenly a jolt careened through her body and she began to plummet to the earth. Yelping, terror stalled her attempts at trying to regain her flying. Finally though she stopped herself, hanging limply and panting for a few moments still up in the air.

A noise of breathing echoed behind her and her body stilled. Her breath caught and slowly she turned herself around.

There, no more than one foot behind her floated a silver Chinese dragon.

She gasped, eyeing the monster completely made of metal scales, its face and yellow eyes twisted in a cruel expression. Its long mustache feelers floated inches from her face and all she could do is stare at this beast ten times her size looming above her.

“So…ahaha are you an alloy or enemy?” She asked meekly.

It roared in her face.

“Right, not the time for jokes.” Her hands formed into fists.

The roaring beast shimmered in the sky, Lore grit his beak flying towards it. Landing one punch before its tail swept her up and slammed into her hard. Letting out a pain filled scream she was launched back to the earth at a rapid rate and slammed hard into the pavement of a busy street. The impact displaced several pieces of concrete and caused the traffic lights around the intersection to go on the fritz, blinking on and off instead of completely losing power as they had been. As she pulled herself from the crater she formed she realized several people were now looking at her, mouths wide open. Trying to ignore the growing pain, she pulled herself fully from the duck shaped hole.

Looking up, she saw the shimmer above her as the silver dragon was swaying closer to them.

This was bad, she pissed it off and now it was coming down to attack. She wasn’t sure if she had enough energy to fly and fight but still.

A loud roar from the monster directed the attention of the people towards the shining dragon bulldozing towards them.

The city erupted into chaos and Lore was preparing herself to launch back up into the air when she felt a hand on her shoulder. Blinking, she glanced back to see Gizmoduck with his hand on her shoulder.

“Allow us to lend you a hand.”

“Us?”

Gladstone Gander appeared on the other side, smirking. “I’m not much for fighting, but I have been known to be rather lucky.”

Lore grinned.

“Let’s stop this WIRE now.” Punching a hand into her palm, Lore braced her feet on the ground. “Gizmoduck! A lift please?”

“On it!” He grasped her gently and launched her into the sky, using her magic she flew the rest of the way.

Turning on his helmet copter Gizmoduck followed suit flying towards Lore and the metal beast.

Lore flew and punched the dragon, but winced as she pulled her hand back and shook it. Flying back, she dodged its tail this time and watched as Gizmoduck started to blast at it rapidly with everything he had in his suit.

“It’s made of some pretty tough metal!” Lore yelled over, dodging more tail attacks.

Launching a few missiles at the beast, Gizmoduck’s mouth dropped as the smoke cleared to reveal no damage.

Letting out a few yelps and noises, Gizmoduck also dodged the tail. “What is this thing?!”

“A WIRE!” Lore flew up and blasted magic into its eyes. It screamed, letting out a high frequency that caused Gizmoducks suit to malfunction.

“Uh oh…” he said as he began to fall.

Lore dove with arms extended, straining her magic she managed to catch Gizmoduck and set him safely to the ground.

“Maybe you should fight from down here..” Lore started, and suddenly the face of the dragon appeared behind her. Gizmoduck’s jaw dropped and Gladstone’s eyes widened.

“And….its right behind me isn’t it?” Lore deadpanned.

It launched itself at them, mouth wide open. Gizmoduck grabbed Lore and bolted down the street. Gladstone yelped and ran off too.

The dragon chased Lore and Gizmoduck through the street, tearing it up as it chased after them. Lore continued to throw whatever she could think of at it. But nothing was working and she groaned. “What do I do?!”

“Please don’t tell me this is what you wanted Scrooge to find for you.” The armor clad duck stated.

“Well……technically yes..but..wait…how do you know about that? I only told that to Fenton…and Donald..” She frowned and pulled off the helmet. “AH HA!”

“Oh great…another person knows my secret.” Fenton groaned. A sudden roar from behind them made him stumble and they glanced back as the silver beast was gaining speed.

“Fenton go faster!” Lore yelled. “It’s gonna…” It launched forward, chomping its large mouth at them.

Lore flung out her arm, and suddenly several pieces of random metal launched towards it, most pieces bouncing off, but a few got into its mouth. It choked briefly, coughing and stopping.

They slowed down a bit, both panting.

“Okay new strategy, what is that thing made of?” Gizmoduck asked.

“I’m pretty sure you’ve never heard of it. It’s the hardest material in the universe.” Lore frowned.

“Titungeelium.”

“I have never heard of that in my life….” He pressed a button on his chest. “Dr Gearloose! Have you got it yet?”

There was a pause and a sigh. “Yes obviously overpaid intern.” He stated. “I managed to gather the data on the creature in question. It seems to be comprised of several hard metals mixed together to form a new element. It’s rather fascinating really.”

“And?”

“Well, theres many metals mixed in, mostly Steel, silver, Titanium, Chromium, Tungsten and a few others I can’t identify.”

“Talk about a mixed basket.” Lore commented. Jumping off of Fenton’s suit and preparing herself. The dragon was growling and over his choking attack.

“Any ideas?” Fenton implored.

“Well, acid would be my first option.” Gyro commented dryly.

“Maybe something less lethal to the residents of Duckburg?” Fenton winced.

Gyro rolled his eyes. “Fine..”

The next thing Gyro said made both stop and stare at the suit.

“What?” Gryo sounded annoyed.

“That’s crazy!”

“But our only option. Is there one nearby?” Lore asked.

“Mount Quaksta.” Fenton pointed past Duckburg towards a large looking mountain.

Lore smirked. “Got it. Thanks boys!” She jumped into the air. “Let me take it from here. I’ll lead it over there.”

“Wait, but Lore..” Fenton waved his arms frantically.

Lore shook her head. “This is my job Fenton. I’ll be fine.” She winked.

“But your just a kid.” Gyro commented.

Lore made a puffed up face. “I’m sixteen thank you very much!” Huffing, she floated and turned to face the dragon, hands formed into fists.

“You want me smokey? Come and get me!” Lore flew towards it and kicked it hard in the nose.

Enraged, the beast’s eyes turned from yellow to red and it started to emit a strange electric charge.

All the buildings windows shattered.

Fenton yelped as his suit started to be affected, electrocuting itself from the inside. As it fried he scrambled out of it quickly, dodging and watching as Lore flew off with the angry dragon in tow.

Helpless, his gaze turned worried and he found Gladstone nearby. Completely unharmed even with the devastation around him.  

“Oh hey Gizmoduck!” Was Gladstone’s comment as Fenton grabbed his arm.

“How did yo…... No time for that now!” He dragged the lucky duck off towards the lab. They needed to catch up with Lore.

Lore strained her flying to the max as the beast tore after her. Every cloud it hit turned into a storm cloud, buzzing with energy and sending out lightning as it passed through.

As Lore finally made it towards the mountain she grinned and stopped, suspending herself, she spun to face the dragon who was sparking. Its face was erupting in anger and the sparks caused her to blink a few times from the bright bursts dilating her eyes.

“Now I know you don’t just want to float there!” She grinned, hands forming purple blasts of energy.

The Wire charged at her and she dodged a bit, flying around behind the beast and magic blasting into its back. Letting out an enraged roar, it spun around and tried to attack her again. But she kept dodging it, trying to lead it closer to the large mountain.

Diving a bit, she drew it closer. “I hope this works.”

Her heart sunk as she approached the mountain only to realize one thing.

It was dormant..

An earth shattering roar caused her to turn back with a horrified expression as the beast rampaged towards her. Her mind hit a wall and she froze.

Eyes wide she could do nothing as it collided with her. Together, the two slammed hard into the side of the mountainside.

Pain exploded everywhere and she let out an agonized gasp as she was pinned to the mountain by a claw. Struggling to stay conscious, she glared up at the beast who was almost smirking. Looking down upon its prey like a cat to a mouse.

Gritting her beak, Lore struggled to free herself. The claw tightened around her, making her give out a pained groan.

This was bad. Frantically kicking and struggling, Lore cursed and was tempted to bite the monsters arm. But she remembered biting would do nothing to the hard metal surrounding the beast.

“This…can’t be the end..” Lore felt a lump in her throat and it was so hard to not feel fear in that second.

The monster leaned towards her, opening its jaws to rip her apart.

Shaking, Lore tried not to cry but she knew no one could save her now. “No…”

“LORE!” Yelled a voice.

Instantly, the monster stopped and Lore’s tear stained gaze glanced up to see a helicopter with Scrooge’s face and a money sign on it. Inside she saw Fenton and Dr Gearloose, hanging off the side of the copter was Gladstone, holding something in his hand.

Grinning, Gladstone pulled his arm back. “Catch!” He launched the item towards her rapidly.

Jerking her head back and forth, she realized her arms were still trapped and before she could look back the object slammed into her head. “Ow!” it bounced off and she opened her beak to catch it firmly. Glancing at the object, she realized it was a grenade of sorts. She paled.

Fenton slapped his hand to his forehead and said a few choice words. “Gladstone! What were you thinking?!”

Getting back inside Gladstone blinked and nodded firmly. “Well we did get it to her didn’t we?” he smirked.

Both scientists gave him a unimpressed look.

“Pull the pin and throw it at the monster!” Fenton yelled outside the open window. Lore gave him a look of ‘And how should I do that?’

“Well I do believe its Gladstone’s time to shine.” Crackling his knuckles he pushed Gyro and Fenton aside and took control of the helicopters controls.

“You do know how to fly this I hope.” Gyro commented.

“Not really.” Instant fear consumed Fenton and Gyro at Gladstones comment.

“Come on guys, I’m the hero here! And lucky, well be fine!” Slamming the stick down, the helicopter plunged towards the monster. “Probably..”

Fenton and Gyro screamed, holding onto each other for dear life as Gladstone pulled up at the last minute, barely skimming the top of the Wire.

But it certainly got its attention. Lore took this chance while its head was turned to kick at the claw that held her. It snapped open and she quickly flew out, back still towards the mountainside as she yelled. “Hey heavy metal!”

It turned back towards her and growled.

“Come take a bite!” She taunted with a smirk. It lunged with mouth open. Pulling the pin, she threw the grenade into the monster and went to escape.

A claw slammed into the side of mountain, blocking her path. Yelping, she stopped and heard a explosion.

Eyes widened as she saw the dragon pause, then begin to melt away before her eyes. But despite it dying before her eyes, its head and upper body once more pinned her to the quickly deteriorating mountainscape.

“Nononono!” Shaking her head, panic to overtake her as the monsters head was so close she could feel its breath. Even as the metal was melting around its claws and arms, it still held her firm against the mountain. She screamed a bit and kicked and shot magic at it frantically.

Finally, it released her and she stumbled up the mountain. But she stumbled as the world seemed to shake. At first she thought it was from the Wire, but then she heard the rumbling from behind her.

Her beak opened in shock as she slowly turned around.

Above her was a inferno.

The volcano was waking up.

Three sets of eyes widened as the smoke plumed from the top of Quaksta.

“Oh this is bad..” Fenton commented and quickly took over the controls, flying closer to see if he could see Lore anywhere.

The Wire was almost completely fallen apart, the acidic remains littering the mountainside, bubbling and tearing through the rock.

Or was that the lava surfacing?

Suddenly with a boom, lava exploded around Lore, completely consuming the remains of the Wire and quickly she jumped up into the air before it reached her. Molten rock rapidly descended the mountain from the holes caused by the acid as well as from the top of the mountain as it fully began to awaken.

Suddenly the helicopter appeared next to Lore.

“We have to stop the volcano!” Fenton said in a rushed tone. “According to my calculations, which I just made this second. The lava is heading straight for Duckburg!”

“Of course it is..” Singed and cut up from the Wire, Lore sighed exhausted.

Looking around, Lore searched for a water source of any kind. Luckily, Duckburg was near the coast so she spotted the sea easily to her right.

“Right! We have to lead it towards the ocean!” Lore grinned.

“How?!” Fenton looked as if he was going to tear out all his feathers.

Lore closed her eyes. “Leave that to me. You guys head back and try to build a barrier just in case some spill over!”

Gyro nodded. “Got it!”

They flew off and Lore looked below her at the slowly moving yellow and red sludge.

“Lore!” was Clix’s yell from her wrist.

Holding up her arm, Lore smiled brightly. “Clix! Your back! Just as I need you! I need you to send me a few things…”

Gryo, Fenton and Gladstone reached the town and quickly disembarked from the helicopter. “What do we do?” Gladstone asked the others, arms stretched out wide. “How are we going to protect the entire city?”

Gyro frowned and sat his beak on his hand thoughtfully. “I suppose…I could use That”

“What?” Fenton and Gladstone chorused.

A wicked smirk split the older scientists face. “Come on! It’s time for the big guns!”

Fenton and Gladstone stared at each other.

“This doesn’t seem like it will end well..” Fenton commented before following the Doctor.

Lore grinned as she floated high above the flowing lava. On her back resembled part vacuum cleaner, part ghost busters weapon. She grasped onto the hose and closed one eye, tilting her head a bit to get a clear shot.

“Is this really necessary?” Clix asked from her wrist.

“Yup! I have to make sure none of the lava hits the town. This is the only way to do it without wasting all of my magic.” Lore commented and turned on the gadget.

“Alright, to adjust the beam you need to-“

Lore turned the tip of the hose sharply to the right and pressed the button on top.

A large ray of energy buzzed from the tip, blasting into the earth below and forming a crater where was once a mountain.

“-Not do that..” Clix stated flatly.

Lore blinked. “Wow this thing packs quite a punch!”

Clix smirked. “Of course it does, it’s made by yours truly. Are you sure you can handle this fire power witchy?” she asked, looking amused.

“No worries, I got this!” Lore grinned, pressing the button again and lowering the beams intensity.

Pointing it down on the ground she began to cut a canal of sorts for the lava to follow. Making it as wide as possible to fit all of the oozing substance, she quickly burned a pathway through the earth towards the sea.

It was delicate and highly stressful, more than once she had to accommodate a stray piece of lava escaping or overflowing canals.

Finally though, as the sun was beginning to set she saw the sea in sight. Increasing the intensity of the beam she frantically waved her arm, burning through the earth rapidly as the bubbling molten earth paraded behind her, increasing in speed just slightly as it was going downhill.

She glanced to her left and spotted Duckburg, surrounded by a clear dome….that sparkled?

Blinking, she tilted her head to the side. “What is that? Is that made of-“

“Diamonds?!” Fenton’s jaw dropped.

Gyro looked smug. “That’s right intern.” He typed in a few keys and presented a picture of the diamond dome on the screen. “I liquefied diamonds and mixed them with nanobots to produce this shield. Not only is diamond the hardest substance around and impossible to penetrate, but with the nanobots I can change the size, style and density of the shield whenever I wish!”

“That’s…” Gladstone started.

“Amazing!” Fenton seemed gleeful and looked at the charts, babbling non stop about the chemical composition and how Gyro melted diamonds among other things.

But Gladstone was staring at it cynically, something was bothering him about this.

He just wish he knew what it was.

Lore was almost to the sea, but suddenly the device began to malfunction, spurting out less and less energy and glancing at the gauge she realized something.

“It’s out of juice!” Lore yelped and looked to Clix who blinked.

“That’s impossible it runs off of……solar……….Oh..” the sun was almost gone from the horizon and darkness was cascading across the land.

Frantic, Lore looked around and saw the lava starting to divert towards Duckburg. “Not good.” Throwing the device away she quickly pulled out the next object, black fingerless gloves. Inside the palms were wires and a polished piece of quartz in the palm of each hand.

“Clix! These will do it right?” Lore confirmed and the blue clad girl nodded.

“Yes! Just don’t do anything stupid!” Clix warned.

“Me? Do something stupid?” Lore smirked.

Clix sighed. “Just don’t tear a hole through time and space and make it so toasters were never invented…” was her farewell as she vanished.

“That was one time!” Lore yelled at her friend that was no longer there.  

Lore dove towards the lava that was inching closer to the city. This was her last shot.

Quickly overtaking it, she held out her hands which buzzed to life. “I hope this works!”

Within the polished stones a glow began to overtake her hands and suddenly a beam of pure white energy blasted into the earth before her, decimating three feet of earth instantly. Blinking, Lore looked at the gloves and smirked. “I like these!”

Lore went back to work, blasting at the earth once more to form another canal and turn the lava away from Duckburg, heading back towards the ocean. She had to make quite a sharp turn at the west side of the forcefield, cutting this canal pretty close to the shield. She only hoped the lava would follow the deeper than usual canal and not spill onto the shield.

The raging liquid followed the canal and as it made that sharp turn, some of the rebellious liquid rock did indeed overflow and splatter onto the diamond shield.

There was a large electric discharge, buzzing and instantly the lava melted through the diamonds like glass.

“Oh, that’s the bad feeling I had.” Gladstone stated and Gyro screamed, “My Diamond shield!”

Guess Gyro forgot that even crystals and tech weren’t a match for molten rock.

Thankfully the damage was minimal and the rest of the lava flowed harmlessly into the bay.

Panting a bit, Lore floated to the ground. Feeling the earth underneath her she collapsed onto her back laughing a bit.

They did it…they saved the town. She put her hands on her face and half cried, half laughed. “I am never doing that again!”

The town was mostly unscathed, save a few fires from the random molten lava that had burned through the shield.

But Gyro was sure those people had insurance anyways..

Lore made it back to town and staggered a bit towards the manor where she saw the three standing outside.

Fenton brightened a bit when he saw her. “Lore your okay!” he ran up and hugged her which she winced at.

“Ah ow…well mostly..” she looked like she had been through a fight with a lawnmower. Her hair was scattered and messed up, she had burns and claw marks on her arms. But she still managed a exhausted smile. “But we did it! Thank you, all of you.”

“All in a days work!” Gladstone said proudly.

“You literally did nothing,” Gyro deadpanned.

“Right! And we survived didn’t we? We saved the town too! I consider that a Gladstone Gander win!” with that, he laughed and walked off as a random person approached him offering him a million dollars.

The three ducks left over watched this with varying expressions.

“That duck is…” Lore started.

“Strange.” Fenton supplied.

“Annoying.” Was Gyros biting response. Sighing he scratched his head. “Well back to the drawing board. Looks like the diamond shield needs more….testing..” without another word he left Fenton and Lore.

Leaning against the gate of the manor, Lore managed a smile towards the other duck who awkwardly looked to the side.

“So…uh…” Fenton coughed.

“So…Gizmoduck huh?” Lore smirked and Fenton groaned.

Pulling out a notebook, he wrote down her name along with Gladstones and sighed. “I guess I’m not too good at this superhero thing. Can’t even seem to keep my secret identity….well secret!”

Lore chuckled and shook her head. “ I don’t think there’s any really right way to be a super hero.” She shrugged. “Having a few people know isn’t so bad. Especially when they can help you out of a tight spot.” She pushed herself off the wall and held out her arm. “Thanks Fenton. You helped me out a lot. That anomaly would have kept causing chaos in this world.”

Fenton grinned and took her hand, shaking it. Then something clicked. “Wait..’this world?’”

Lore appeared like a deer caught in the headlights. “Um, Gotta go bye!” She jumped up and flew off.

“Wait! Lore!” Was Fenton’s loud yell. “Who is that girl?”

With everything else solved, Lore opted to make sure everyone else was okay. She had seen when the Sunchaser had returned with several exhausted ducks.

They arrived late in the night, not even noticing the damage done from the now dormant again Quaksta.

At first she checked up on the kids. All three boys were fast asleep. She peeked her eyes in the window of Webby’s room and saw her clutching a doll in her arms, sobbing a bit and Lore found her heart ache at this. She guessed what they tried didn’t work. Closing her eyes she pressed a hand on the window and firmly nodded. “You will get Lena back Webby, don’t lose hope yet.”

Her eyes drifted to the rippling shadow on the wall near the bed and she smiled softly. "Hang in there Lena.."

She then flew over to the boat where Donald was sleeping comfortably.

Lore floated around him and grinned. “Thanks Donald for your words of wisdom.” She smiled slightly.

“I thought it was ye..” The voice she never thought she’d hear again echoed behind her. Eyes widening, spun around to see Scrooge standing at the door to the boat, staring at Lore with a stern expression.

Lowering herself to the ground, she stood before Scrooge and averted her eyes. Sighing, she closed them and reopened them, meeting his gaze head on. “Scrooge.”

“I didn’t believe the kids at first. But it seems I canna deny this now.” Slowly he closed his eyes and sighed, fingers tightening over his cane he held before him.

Lore grinned with her arms firmly tucked behind her. “It’s been a while..”

“And ye haven’t aged at all.” Was Scrooge’s comment full of emotion.

Lore smiled sadly. “Comes with the territory really.”

“Why are ye here?” Scrooge’s voice wasn’t suspicious, just curious.

Lore blinked and hummed. “I came back because there was another anomaly.” Seeing his worried expression she quickly held up her hands. “Oh don’t worry I already took care of it. Although…I’d suggest not going to Mount Quaksta right now..”

“I don’t wanna know..” Scrooge glared.

Laughing nervously, Lore spun around a bit. “I’m just checking on everyone before its time to go.”

“Ye canna stay?” Scrooge's voice sounded hopeful.

Lore’s surprised face flickered before her smile took over again. “Nope, sorry old man.” She grinned. “Lots of other places need me now.”

Scrooge’s eyebrow twitched. “Mind yer elders lass..”

Giggling a bit she took a couple steps closer to him and leaned near his ear. “So….is this future everything you wanted?”

Blinking, Scrooge smiled softly back at her. “Almost.”

“I’ll take it.” Lore pulled back and started to walk past him.

A thought struck him and spinning around, he grasped her arm. “Lore! Wait!”

She glanced back at him, surprised. “Yes?”

Reluctantly, he released her arm and sighed. “Ye see…we have a problem….there’s a poor child named Lena that needs help.”

Lore’s face fell and she wrapped her arms around herself. “I know…Lena is a shadow right? You need to bring her back…right?”

Scrooge looked desperate and Lore hated that expression.

“I’m…sorry.” She whispered. “I can’t help..”

“But..yer magic..”

“It won’t work.” Lore whispered and took a step back. She bit back another lie. “I can’t free Lena.”

Clenching his hands into fists, Scrooge resisted the urge to grab and shake her. He wanted to know why, why she couldn’t help when she had so much magic.

Lore looked away, taking a deep breath she sighed. “Are you telling me the Great Scrooge McDuck I’ve been hearing so much about can’t bring a teen from another realm single handedly? I guess the rumors I’ve heard are just fabrications. I didn’t think you’d resort to relying on magic to solve your problems!” She smirked. Watching his eyes instantly narrow.

“Whatever ye heard they were certainly not fabrications!” he growled. “I am Scrooge McDuck! I am smarter than the smarties! Tougher than the toughies and sharper than the sharpies!” he pointed at her. “I still hate magic and think it’s a shortcut!” he ranted and Lore crossed her arms across her chest, smiling as he ranted about how he had discovered El Dorado, Atlantis and the temple of Toth-ra.

“Scrooge.” He stopped and turned to her. “I believe if anyone can save Lena…its you and Webby.” She stated seriously. “Just…don’t overthink it too much. I’m sure you both will know what to do when the time is right.”

Suddenly behind her formed a portal of cosmic energy, swirling and glowing. It sent a bright light and Donald, who was already awake at that time and had heard everything quacked in alarm.

Looking behind her, Lore hummed. “I guess its time again.”

She took a step back.

“Wait!” This time it was Donald.

Looking back up, Donald approached her and sat his hands on her shoulder. “I know what its like to take the fate of worlds upon your shoulders. But remember this…” he looked a little saddened by this next comment. “You can’t save everyone.”

His words echoed within her soul, bringing fresh emotions welling up.

“And also this.” Donald stated. “You can always come here and we will welcome you…Lore Dimensional Witch.” The wind started to pick up around them, papers floating everywhere and spinning around the trio.

“Wait, Dimensional-“ Was Scrooge’s shocked exclamation as Lore’s tear stained smiling face vanished into the swirling portal.

Chapter Summary:   Addison changes the channel. Irene broods. Kardala gives a pat on the back (metaphorically).

Jamie’s car pulled away almost before they closed the doors. Nadiya couldn’t really blame her; it was a cramped, tense ride, and Jamie drove exactly the speed limit. (Like Irene, Nadiya noted; apparently that’s what you do when you’re on the run. Action movies had lied to her.)

In front of them stood a small, slightly shabby house. Nadiya glanced from Remy to Kardala. “You think?”

Remy shrugged, walking up to the door and knocking. All three of them waited, then the door cracked open to reveal the terrified face of Addison.

“What do you want?” they said. “Get out of here. Tell Martine we aren’t –”

“Whoa, whoa, slow down,” Remy said, holding his hands up nonthreateningly. “Why would we be from Martine?”

“I mean, not only were we the ones who fucked her up at the ‘Berg,” Nadiya pointed out, “but she’s locked up.”

Addison glanced down the street, then opened the door. “Come in,” they said warily. “If you were from Martine, you just would’ve blown the door open, probably.”

“Jamie brought us,” Nadiya said. Addison looked much like she remembered them: a person in their later thirties, a little soft around the middle, thinning hair. Open, friendly face that was currently tense with anxiety.

They relaxed slightly. “Oh. Well, that’s better, at least.”

“Addison?” a voice called from the next room.

“Coming,” Addison said, hurrying through the doorway. “You okay?”

The person on the couch – Flanagan, Nadiya recalled – shrugged jerkily. “Who is it?”

“Ahh, people from the Fellowship, escapees,” Addison said. “Nadiya Jones, Remy, uh, Kardala. Remember them?”

“Yeah.” Flanagan turned to look at them from the couch. Her thick, shoulder-length black hair was disheveled where it was hanging around her face, and she looked tired. She seemed a little younger than Addison – early thirties, maybe. “Hi. How’d you get here?”

“Cross-country road trip,” Remy said. “Hey, could you let us crash here for at least a night? We’re way tired.”

Addison glances at Flanagan, who nods. “Okay,” they said. “Yeah, sure. Just gotta stay on the DL, you know?”

“No, we know, we’re on the run too,” Remy said with a nod, and collapsed onto the couch, leaving some space between him and Flanagan.

“Nadiya? Kardala? You can sit,” Addison said, motioning vaguely around the space. “Sorry about the state of things.” They made a helpless gesture, then let their arms fall at their sides. “It’s… uh, a hell of a time finding a place in Cali with not much money. This was already furnished, so…”

“We slept in the sewers earlier today,” Remy mumbled from where he was rubbing his face into a pillow. “This place is great. Hey Nad, you aren’t going to yank us out of here again in half an hour, right? I could, like, fall asleep?”

“We’ll see,” Nadiya said grimly. “Do you two know where Mary Sage is?”

“What?” Addison said in confusion. “Why would we know?”

There was a thump as Kardala settled heavily onto the floor. “She ran away,” she said plainly.

“Yeah. And we don’t know where she is, and…” Remy trailed off. “We thought she might have come this way.”

Nadiya thought back to the tug she felt on the bus, towards Irene and Remy. If Mary had the same connection with Addison and Flanagan, she could very well be somewhere nearby.

Addison shook their head. “I’ll think about it,” they promised. “She’s been with you?” Nadiya nodded, and Addison let out a sigh of relief. “That’s, uh, that’s good. We were kinda worried about her after all the kerfuffle on the ‘Berg.”

“Mary Sage, of the robot angels, has been with us,” Kardala confirmed, leaning back against the couch. “Until today.”

“Addison,” Nadiya broke in, “why did you think we were with Martine? She’s in jail, we dropped her at the White House and everything.”

“Oh.” Addison chewed on their lip. “Oh. Right. About that.” They picked up a remote and turned the TV on, flipping through channels and back-logged episodes until they found what they were looking for. They fiddled with the remote for a minute, cursing mildly and hitting it against their hand, and then paused the screen.

It was C-Span, Nadiya could tell – she’d watched countless hours to fill up the times she was home alone, her father working somewhere else at whatever base they lived on. There were a crowd of people on-screen, all important-looking and wearing suits.

And one of them was Martine.

“Fuck,” Nadiya said quietly. “When was this?”

“Couple days ago,” Addison said. “The, uh… the day after everything went topsy-turvy at the Fellowship. She showed up at a press conference.” They turn to look at the three. “She’s not in jail, guys. She’s up and about, and probably looking for us.”

 The room was quiet for a moment.

Oh, shit, Kardala heard Irene say.

“I thought she’d go to jail,” Remy said in a small voice.

Addison shook their head. “Too smart for that,” they said. Flanagan reached up and grabbed their wrist, and they took her hand, holding tightly. “No, whatever she’s up to, she’s not done.”

“Should’ve known,” Remy mumbled. “Should’ve… fuck. She was planning this for years. Of course she’d have a backup plan.”

“What is it, though?” Nadiya said. “The Fellowship’s gone. Most of the people are, too. Richard – Dick – he was in bad shape when last we saw him.”

Addison shook their head. “I have no idea,” they admitted. “We’ve just been trying to stay off her radar.”

“Maybe it has to do with the people in the Fellowship,” Nadiya said, finally giving in and sitting in a nearby armchair. “Me, because of my research, right? The stimplants. Remy because of his parents.”

Addison gave Remy a questioning look, but Remy shook his head. “Please don’t ask,” he said. “I don’t really… not right now.”

“So, background was probably one factor,” Nadiya continued. “And then… special abilities? Addison, Flanagan?”

Addison glanced at Flanagan. “We already worked really well together,” they offered. “We were, uh, friends before the Fellowship. Worked together, y’know, on some pretty cool energy tech. Guess that’s why our powers turned out the way they did.”

Nadiya nodded. “All right. And Jamie knew Parson…” She glanced at Kardala, then away. Kardala frowned. She couldn’t tell what Nadiya was thinking.

She’s wondering why I got chosen, Irene said softly.

That is surely obvious. Because of me.

They didn’t know about you, though, Irene said. Right? Her thoughts became more troubled. I don’t even know why they chose me.

Though she wasn’t communicating it to Kardala, Kardala could sense what Irene was thinking next, as if to herself: Why did they pick me? There’s no reason… they needed an HR person. I’m good at my job, but they could’ve gotten anyone for that. And then flashes of words: shortish, plain, upperish middle class, average personality, average grades.

Kardala realized that that was what Irene was thinking of herself: average.

Nothing special, she concluded, just as Irene thought it as well.

Irene’s thoughts stuttered to a halt at their sudden synchronicity.

Irene Baker?

Yeah?

You are… Kardala shifted uncomfortably on the thin rug, and Remy gave her a questioning look, which she ignored. You are not nothing special. You are special.

Because of you?

Kardala paused, trying to think that through. Yes. And no.

Please explain a little more, Kardala, I’m having trouble following.

You… are a prison, Kardala said hesitantly. You know this. I have stated it previously. But you are also a… vessel? She sighed to herself. And a person.

Thank you, I think?

Kardala shook her head slightly. This time both Nadiya and Remy glanced at her, but she waved them off. They were still discussing each member of the Fellowship. (Irene knew all of them.)

It is not just anyone who could stand up to a goddess, Kardala said finally. As you have stood up to me. You have a powerful will, Irene Baker, and… She searched for a way to say it. And the ability to see what others do not. You knew what Nadiya Jones was thinking, didn’t you?

I did. Irene subsides into silence. Thank you, Kardala, she said after a moment, and the voice is slightly less heavy. Sorry. I guess I had just let things get to me.

I do not mind. And Kardala found – to her surprise – that she didn’t, really.

In fact, the presence of Irene in the back of her mind, quiet and firm and guiding… was becoming almost a comfort. Not that she needed comforting.

For what it’s worth, I like you too, Irene said, and it sounded like she was laughing.

Kardala smiled in spite of herself. I am a goddess with powers beyond imagination. Who would not like me?

Sure, Kardala, Irene said, still with that amusement. Sure.

3. Knowing someone else can hear

The clatter of the dishes in the sink is loud enough to draw attention, like a klaxon as the aluminum pots and pans hit the stainless steel. He’s riled and when Matthew gets riled it’s all bets are off and everything goes. 

Kelly’s right in the next room. Ellen too. Cooing over the twins and in general doing the things that mom’s do. Cali Ann is with her grandparents, but Charley is young enough to play with the twins. 

It’s a bad idea. Clayton’s looking at him like he knows it’s a bad idea. 

Matthew finds himself not caring, pushing Clayton’s hips back against the counter. Clayton doesn’t fight it, doesn’t do anything but lower his lashes, flush coloring his cheeks. 

“Shouldn’t do this...” Clayton mumbles, it’s lost against Matthew’s lips, against need, desire-- they hardly get to see each other anymore. The sacrifice of career, of family, of fame-- it wasn’t like their lazy summer days anymore. 

They weren’t kids anymore. 

Matthew slips down to his knees. 

“It’s good you ain’t a catcher anymore, I woulda missed this.” 

“Fuck off.” Matthew laughs good naturedly and pops the button on Clayton’s jeans deftly. He knows they can’t be too long, can’t be too loud-- can’t be too anything. It’s not like it was. It won’t ever be again and they have to steal these moments when they can. 

Even though their whole life could come crashing down, if Ellen or Kelly saw, it’d be over. Matthew isn’t sure either one of them would ever recover, but who knew. It was better not to test it. 

He slides Clayton’s jeans down over his hips, just enough. Maybe it’s he’s that happy to see Matthew, or maybe it’s the fact that they know they’re on borrowed time, or that they could get caught-- but Clayton’s already tenting his boxers. 

Matthew isn’t careful, he’s just quick-- desperate, opening the fly of Clayton’s boxers as quickly as he can to draw him out. The truth is-- he needs him and as much as he wishes some languid, slow, sensual thing they don’t have the time. 

Maybe the inclination anymore. But he’s still in love with the way Clayton’s lashes flutter, the way his cheeks and neck and chest flush unevenly, the stuttering way he breathes, and the way his thighs quiver. 

“You still get all worked up like you’re feeling around in the back of your daddy’s Buick.” Matthew slides his hands over Clayton’s thighs-- attempting to soothe him, even though he’s not really nervous. 

“You’re a dick.” 

“But you love me.” 

Clayton can’t argue with that and doesn’t, so Matthew continues with what he’s doing. It always makes Matthew feel the same, so he can’t really entirely blame Clayton. He still gets those little shivers, his heart beats too fast, his palms get a little sweaty. 

(Puppy love, they’d called it when he’d tried to explain to his parents-- omitting names and genders. And they must assume he’s gotten over it, years down the line, since he never wound up with any girls from his hometown. 

But here they are, how long has it been now? Twenty some-odd years since they’ve been inseparable?) 

There’s not time for teasing or more reminiscing, even though Matthew wants to. It’s all normal from here. He knows where to put his hands (pushing Clayton back with the heel of his hand pressing too hard into the jut of his hipbone), and how to use his mouth (Clayton likes it slow, a little wet, a little graze of teeth). 

There’s nothing for a while, except the thudding of his heartbeat in his own ears and the slickness of his mouth going up and down, Clayton’s breath coming out in harsher and harsher gasps. 

Until Clayton has to wrap his hand around his own mouth, trying to muffle the whine that’s escaping. Matthew likes it when Clayton’s loud but he knows they can’t be-- not now, and he looks up at him through the fringe of his lashes, with Clayton’s head tipped back, throat working, sheen of sweat gathering in the hollows of his throat. 

It doesn’t take long. Mostly because Matthew knows just how Clayton likes it, and there’s the real excitement of the exhibitionism of it, and he lets Clayton hold him down as he swallows around him and then stands up and wipes his mouth. 

He leans in and kisses Clayton, slow and deep, careful as he fixes his boxers and his jeans, and then he goes to the sink to flip on the water, soaking the dishes and rinsing his mouth. 

“I thought y’all got lost in there.” He hears Ellen say as Clayton goes back into the room. They’ll make jokes about how old Clayton’s gotten, when in a post orgasm lethargic state he’ll nod in and out in a half nap, pretending he’s not tired. 

And Matthew’s lips buzz the rest of the night. 

He gathers up the twins and he wishes things were the same, but different.

Friendship

When I think about it, I meet some of the best people. I make friends with the best people. The only problem is...

They're always so far away.

The friends I made in high school were wonderful. They tried to bring me out of my shell, they tried to involve me in things. But I was too broken. Too afraid to be myself because I didn't know who I was anymore. I didn't know how to have fun. I regret spending so much time with my ex, so much time wasted trying to be a good girlfriend but not knowing how to even do that. I should've spent more time with my friends and not have felt guilty about the times when I did and he wasn't invited. He was always somewhat offended by that. But they were my friends. Not his. His friends never invited me to things, so why should mine? But beyond that, that group of people, those friends of mine, they were fun. I miss being apart of a group like that.

But before I met that group (or rather became a part of it) I had another friend. I met her back in freshman year. She was another flute player, one that for some reason I just wanted to be friends with. I'm pretty sure that I asked her to come have a sleepover with me one day out of the blue. I've never regreted having her as my friend. Sure, she can be difficult and a bit distant at times, but so is everyone else. She's a good soul, but sometimes doesn't know how to take care of herself. I try my best to help but I'm not very good at it. I remember how much I dragged her around with me back in school. Sometimes I just didn't want to be alone with my ex I guess, so I convinced her to come with us. That group of friends didn't like her much, but I think it was more of the friends she had rather than her. They actually told me that she was pretty cool, they just didn't like the people around her. I think I told her that once but I'm not sure if she believed me. This friend, me and her still talk and hang out from time to time. She's been through rough times and I only wish I could help her more. But like I said, I've never regretted picking her out of the crowd to be my friend.

But before her came my Alaskan. He showed up the summer before 8th grade, the first day I got my Xbox 360. I remember yelling at him for pronouncing my gamertag wrong. Best decison I've made. This guy has the best soul. He's a few years younger than me, two I think. And he's always made me smile and laugh. No matter what, he finds a way to cheer me up. Just a month or two ago, I wanted to get a bad story off my chest, get a step closer to letting go. He listened to me try to remember all the things I repressed. And then, he started talking about weird things and telling me stories about what he did. We somehow got on the topic of things his family had taken from his room. So, out of spite, he went to the fridge and said "there's a coke zero in here. It's mine now. I don't even like this drink, but I'm angry at them. So I'm gonna drink it. *a soda popping open and him taking a sip* ugh. Disgusting. *another sip*" After telling that story, worrying about how he would see me after, he did this. He took a soda out of spite. There are many other instances of this. He's been my best friend for around 7 years...But I've never met him face to face. I'm convinced that when I do, when he gives me his promised hug, I might finally feel like the world may actually be okay. Just because he is that type of person who would somehow fix the world.

Somewhere during high school, I was playing GTA online with my brother and maybe some of his friends. We were just running around, blowing things up and driving cars. But this was a GTA online lobby, nothing could ever be peaceful. Eventually, these two people just starting chasing us and constantly killing us. After a while, they invite me to a party. I was fed up and wanted them to stop killing me...So I joined. Those two were surprised I joined the party, and even more so whenever I turned out to be an actual girl. They turned out to be surprisingly fun and only a year younger than me. They started to protect me instead of killing me and they brought me random fun vehicles. So I started playing with them whenever I was online. After maybe a few months to a year, we all just kind of stopped playing. School was back and I was in my later years so the workload was a bit more. Plus, my ex was jealous that I was playing with these random guys online instead of with him (but they were more fun, so can I really be blamed?). Me and those guys stopped talking for maybe a year or two. But one day, one of them messages me. After talking a bit, we decide to meet up since we live in the same state. We talked about meeting up back when we talked more, so it wasn't really an odd thing go us. I made the joke one night that I didn't want to go to town alone to buy a fish, that he should drive up here to go to town with me. Funny thing is, he agreed. I didnt think he'd do it but the next day, they showed up at my house. I discovered that I had an odd knack for picking the best friends, even over the internet. I've told the story of when I went down to visit them already and I'll probably write about the next time I visit them.

There's one last group, so don't you dare think I've forgotten about them. These guys are from California and think that Cali is so much better than Texas. They're wrong of course but I think I showed them Texas's wrath via a tote full of glitter. Anyway, I met these guys on overwatch. Apparently I was a good mercy player and they wanted to play more matches with me. Totally a trap, because then I somehow became the healer of the group. These guys are fun though. And they're always there for me, just like all my friends. They've heard me be depressed, happy, tipsy, drunk off of laughing too much (though when that happenes they usually think I'm actually drunk somehow). These guys have their own problems, but yet when I come to them to complain, they let me. They don't say "Oh but my life is so much worse" they just let me let it all out and then they usually just convince me to play a game and try their best to cheer me up. They give me crap a lot and make me the joke, but I know it's all in good fun and if I could do it back to them, I would. I'm forever glad I ran into them by chance. They're good people and somehow I managed to find a little online family with them.

This is a long post. I didn't mean for that to happen (and just think of how much more i could say). I just wanted to think of how lucky I am to have met these people. To have picked them out of the blue. All of my friends are the best...even if they're so far from me. I've reached some of them but I do intent to reach all of them.

I don’t even know where to start with all the many things that have been going on as of late. I can’t decide if I should start with two weeks ago or just begin with today. Well there has been an abundance of anger going on within me. I think today is a good example of this. We were all sitting on the couch. I was drinking my coffee remembering back in the day when we used to all meet up really late at night and go to the diner together. The boys would add so much sugar to their coffee. Hope and ApprenticeBoi were reading and Moe was stirring up the whole living room with his intense boredom. That’s when out of fucking no where at 2:30pm Hope just had a seizer mid conversation. He looked around the room and then bam. Kept his page for a while even. I just went and got his dad because I was so pissed off I couldn’t decide fast enough to push him over or let him remain on the couch. Hope and I’ve become significantly closer sense I’ve returned back to Hawaii. I guess his condition keeps getting worse and worse. I swear I can’t remember a time when this has happened so randomly. He bit his tong making blood spewed all over the couch. Gabe heard me tell ApprenticeBoi that he was having a seizer because the small ignorant boy started laughing. Apparently our student teacher relationship is very close as well as I didn’t fucking flip for his immature behavior. The only comment I ended up making was something along the lines of, “ How about you sit and read your book instead of making terrible comments.” He seemed to listen to me as I was being quite urgent. I wasn’t mad at him though. I then spaced out and asked Gabe what he was getting ready for right after he took a shower. I can’t say I’ve been being super bright these days either. I have a theory that I’m just not listening to me as well unless I verbally state what I’m saying. Update: I just talked to Hope’s dad and he mentioned that Hope had just gotten up. That makes this whole situation a lot less concerning to me. I guess the neurologist had explained that he tends to have a his episodes in the time where his brain is beginning to boot up after awakening. I didn’t realize how long it takes for a brain to start running but I also didn’t realize that they could know so much about his problem and yet still not completely fix it.  

Who’s Gabe? Yeah, that goes back two weeks ago when I started this whole gig cleaning air planes. A week before MelloMad and I started Gabe had gotten fired due to the closer of the Santa Maria unit of the airplane company. Sandy, the head director of the airline for Hawaii is stationed in Kona and for the most part to my understanding he runs at least Honolulu as well. He called Gabe only a day after he was fired to offer him a place with the intimate group of mechanics here on the Big Island which was apparently about a month before he came here, That’s when he stayed in the pilot’s grew house for about a month. I guess around six months ago Gabe’s goil Lee Ann died a slow death due to the cancers. I know this experience very well. I feel like Gabe and I are meant to be friends.

Jerry, the lead mechanic of the later in the weak mechanics groups, Wednesday to Saturday, was the blessed man to get us the job cleaning. He lives only up the road from us. He would have been able to help us out in these hard two weeks that nearly drove me to stabbing my best friend haha. I said, “would” for a damn good reason though. The day of the missile or that Saturday, he was riding his motorcycle through an intersection and like most nearly fatal biking accidents was drove into by a car trying to make a left turn. It really is a shame for both Jerry and the now traumatized driver of the car. I guess from what I heard, Jerry got up and walked over to the guy to give him what he deserved in violent words, which tells you the kind of guy Jerry is, before he sat down declaring that he thinks he needs an ambulance. One of the other mechanics on the other shifts neighbor found him and called the emergency services. We saw him last weekend and oh my was he bruised and shattered. His hole left side was completely wrecked. He shattered on of his knee caps and had a giant circular chunk taken out of his leg. His other knee is broken and both spots right above his ankles are fucked. He’s going to be out of work for four months. He told us he’s headed to his mom’s in Cali. I don’t blame him. I would want my mom as well.

With Jerry out of the picture, MelloMad and I would have to rely on the fact that BoldFuck and Mom-o-pan go to Kona each day if we are to return home. Sounds good yes? Our shift is from 8:30pm to 4:30 am. That means BoldFuck and Mom-o-pan cannot be that inconvenienced sense they have children. Fine, whatever, I get two weeks of helping us out while we wait to get paid does seem a little over whelming.... We did get the job in the first place so BoldFuck could quote on quote stay home with his kids. More about this later. I’m so happy to be writing after all this time omg. Alright any how, all these sentences lead up to the fact that Kona Airport is sitting in a dry hot lava rock climate around five miles from the city. No money combined with MelloMad’s inability to walk long distances for some form of foot related problem leaves us stranded at the airport all week. MelloMad and I managed to find a nice culvert buried deep under the highway to take refuge in. The two of us kind of swore off BoldFuck and Mom-o-pan after that because honestly this was insane. I’d end up paying four hundred of the four hundred and thirty seven dollars I made on my first weeks work to them for the month of January after I spent two weeks of that month sleeping in a fucking storm drain.You crazy fucking assholes.

This is where Gabe. our Hispanic 47 year old friend from the gangster areas of both Nevada and LA, would come in. He had the pilot’s car, I can’t remember the model lol. It was a really small two door car that wasn’t even a hatchback. We banned together with him since he was sleeping in this car as he both already blew all of his money on women and alcohol and the fact that Kona living is nearly impossible. Between the three of us our best bet would be to find a car over a house so we could in fact live. Hilariously I found a great deal on this apartment that I’m half tempted to keep trying for, for the four of us. I have a small wish of chilling in the condos shared backyard pool in a pink floaty, like the man from when we were on Hilo side chilling with my wondrous Angel of Melody. Haven’t texted her in a hot minute haha.

Angel of Melody is actually a great segway to why I think Gabe and I are meant to be friends. When he did return the car he joined us for about a week and half in the storm drain. BoldFuck and Mom-o-Pan would come pick us up for the weekend but man does rivet-y metal cylinders *fuck me* sucks to sleep in. I’m gay and I think that amazing and magical fact has to come with some form of repercussion in itself for I live in a time where abnormality, although worshiped, often is actually frowned upon. “It’s good to be unique!” Lies I tell you, unless its going to make you an abundance of cash to swede people other wise. One person that we all know very well as Wondering Angels’s number one anti lesbianism antagonist is MelloMad. He could probably easily defend himself by stating that he doesn’t mind lesbians at all as he watches porn of it.. Maybe? I actually question that lol. Plus lesbian porn is fucking stupid. I tried to tell him but he told me it’s because I want the love and not the lust. It’s probably where I’m watching it. Honestly though, how many time’s do lesbians have to clearly state to people that scissoring isn’t the fucking bee’s knees of lesbian sex? I haven’t even had sex with another women yet and I can agree. I’d give you some sources to this from my hours of researching when I was having a crisis but…. I don’t have internet right now alongside the point that I just don’t want to. It’s hard for me to say something so opinionated on other peoples behalf sense I can imagine MelloMad seeing this as an opportunity to disprove my point. I could even imagine a different color text being typed across here like: This is MelloMad and your wrong because I never hear anyone say that. Yes, I understand your word is way cooler then mine, awesome. Even just yesterday when MelloMad was having a good day and I was asleep in the backseat, I heard him tell Gabe I needed to prove to him I’m gay. Gabe even told me MelloMad thinks I switched… SWITCHED. Look, what the fuck?! I actually did bother explaining to Gabe why this was and it brought up my mother which was good. Actually it all lines up really well. I’m just getting to good at my job. Gabe isn’t homophobic in the slightest and that’s so refreshing. Someone whom of which MelloMad has no influence over would like to hang out with me and isn’t homophobic haha, perfect right? So I can give Gabe support on Lee Ann and he can give me support on my very CLEAR gayness.

Can we stop here to speak about how I’m not fucking curious? Yes, we can because this is my letter to you and not the other way around. Here is a brief essay on why.

I am not curious because, I was born very gay, I have no sexual feeling towards men, and sex isn’t everything. When I was only hardly a handful of years old my brother Chris had a girlfriend named Christal. Christal was this super fucking hot blond chick that I would pretend was my girlfriend. When I was in the third grade I joined the boys and girls club because my friend Liza went there after school as well and she was really hot! I found out she was signed up for the other side of the club. I was quite lonely there but I continued to attend because this sixth grader named Sam, whom was another hot blond, walked the same way to the bus as I would. If I was fast enough getting out of class, I was able to catch her. My sister-in-law and my mom both knew I was gay. Mom’s always know! Secondly I am not curious because I have no sexual feeling towards men. That ALONE should be a good enough fucking reason you ignorant fuck. Finally FUCKTHIS.

Well teach, I didn’t probably not get a very good grade on dat essay but anyways, I don’t know much more about what’s going to happen between Gabe and I accept that he’s going to help me get some spine talking to women. He’s also taught me a bit about airplane mechanics and some Spanish. El avion esto muy limpio. El avion esto sucio. Airplanes are men in Spanish. I am Spanish as I am from Spain and therefore some Spanish won’t kill me sense its so widely spoken. I quite enjoy learning. Trying to get the sentence; my favorite game is life is strange, down now. It’s like: Mi favorito Jewenkn something something esto esto extrago or something. Yep lol one time reading it off Google translate and I got this haha! Ironically I can read Spanish quite well so if I wanted I could just translate everything but meh why not memorize it?  

Let’s go back to the spine and women thing. I was at Gabe’s favorite bar having a single IPA when I staring at the bar tenders ass as she was wearing this cute pair of black short shorts. I think it should be illegal to be that hot because why am I such a sucker for blonds with hips? Her name’s Shy. Gabe informed me last night that she’s trying to get a plane ticket to Maui for her birthday but she has a boyfriend to go with her. Gabe and I were talking before he found this other blond to be bothered with cause he knew what I didn’t and I mentioned to him again that I’m gay. I was trying to be obnoxious about it in hopes Shy would maybe start speaking of it but I think she sadly didn’t hear me. I guess repeating I’m a lesbian, I’m a lesbian, isn’t going to help me get laid any faster but that’s why I need Gabe to help me out. Now, I didn’t think or think she heard me because she was in the other room. Now the sad part before I go on is that she’s the bar tender so she’s supposed to be nice for her own benefit. This is America after all. She could of easily of done this because I’m friends with Gabe or it could have been completely coincidental. Destiny does tend to spoil me. I did state I had no fucking money though and Gabe did buy me the beer. He’s a really good guy. Let me tell you, I was watching chopped all star addition. I’ve really fell out of chopped over the years but it gives me such a nostalgic feeling from back when that was our jam. Did my mom like chopped? I feel like we would watch it together when we were babysitting at my brothers. Remind me to mention this when I tell you something cool about lately. Next paragraph maybe. Alright back to Shy. She kind of was trying to talk to me but I couldn’t keep myself together at all. I was so damn nervous I wouldn’t stop touching myself all over my head like I was trying to calm myself. I had my hands tangled in my hair I was super insecure, I was just all wrong. Really I just wanted to watch Chopped, sadly. The extremely hot girl was making things so difficult. HER VOICE SOUNDED LIKE the Angel or Dreams or Dream Angel’s HELP. I can’t, alright, alright, okay okay. Gabe was gone and only one other person was at the bar. Now I was sitting by the TV where I could read the sub-tittles which happened to be by the register and most of the tap, oops. She had a moment and stopped to read the TV. I looked right at her like a not so sly moron. She turns to me and is like, “Oh she has a wife, that cool to see a lesbian on the show. They should have a strictly gay version of chopped.” She looks me dead in eyes and I just say, “Yeah then there wouldn’t be any room for discrimination.” That’s when the conversation was over. “I’d watch the shit out of that.” or “I’ve always wanted to be on chopped.” FUCKING ANYTHING REALTED TO ME WOULD OF HELPED. FOR FUCK SAKES I’m SUCH A NARASISTIC FUCK HALF THE TIME, ALWAYS SPEAKING OF ME AND HERE I AM COMING UP WITH A COMPLETELY NON ME RELATED THING TO SAY. I guess it’s better then being like, “Fuck me.” Rip…. I was so mad I just ignored her existence even harder and left the bar after drinking the rest of Gabe’s beer. I just angry ranted in the bathroom for a good hour after that. I was chilling in the car when MelloMad and Gabe thought they would pull a prank on me by trying to insist we needed to turn our badges in. I didn’t believe it because MelloMad wasn’t pissing angry. We just went to get Gabe’s new badge scanned for documentation and MelloMad and I’s member ID’s were in too. Now we can fly free on all of our flights. 

Well when we were at the bar and Gabe walked off with that blond, MelloMad messaged me cause I guess he was with Gabe about how the car might get toed sense we left it at our new bank. We opened an account before hand. When I got there I saw the notice from security  under the whipper. A parking violation warning. I snagged it up in so MelloMad didn’t have a direct reason to bitch around or at me. Well I guess he didn’t even see it at all. The blond Gabe was walking with was older and she was all over MelloMad whom was working on some music. He was getting more and more pissed at her annoying him. It was hilarious. We dropped her off at her house in which she was selling due to her Ex Husbands assholishness. I suggested she rent it out xD ;). Hope lost but later after their little fired prank they failed to pull off. I got Gabe good as I walked off, put the note back where it was but now in the airport parking lot and then went to rant in the bathroom as if I was busy. When I returned they both thought they drove with it on the windshield. YEAH totally. Gabe sounded worried for a second and I decided sense there prank was so shit, I’d quickly spoil my good one. I confessed to putting it there, luckily I didn’t get reamed but I also didn’t get a single laugh either which pissed me off anymore. 

All in all I’ve been hella angry lately. Considering how fucking anxious, depressed over his grandfathers sudden death, and emotional MelloMad has been due to just a random on slot of sudden change.. It sucks cause that’s all Gabe knows MelloMad for. Yet Gabe is/has been slightly over emotional too. I don’t blame either of them so I just sit SILENTLY. Somehow I’ve remained mostly silent. I think it might have thrown MelloMad through a bit of a loop. I’m never quiet but I to know I’ve had quite a bit of anxiety therefore to remain strong I’ve just kept quiet during any even potential arguments or problems that could a rise verbally. I must say even with my efforts there has been twice now where I’ve snapped at MelloMad. One time over me trying to help MelloMad find a solution he can effectively use regarding a bank account which we already went over, we both opened one. I was trying to get him to open maybe a pay-pal. You can use a debit card, master card or vista, bought for roughly a dollar or so or even order a pay-pal debit card. No banks involved in that option. MelloMad insisted that at max three dollars was to much but can’t get over them holding his check for over twenty four hours. Obviously both quite irrational rebuttal and to his surprise the nice man who set us up with an account made sure our money didn’t get held. So fuck me for trying to help. The other argument was at work and was literally over how much sugar per flood ounce was in both the tea and monster energy drink and which had more sugar. Yeah I to got tired of this argument just reading that sentence. This is what happened, seriously this is ridiculous as is. I was board and I calculated his tea as the two servings which would come out to 54 grams of sugar in his entire 24 ounce bottle. I didn’t calculate as two servings and did the math of 19 grams of sugar for the 16 ounces. Obviously mine already has less sugar? Well that’s about 1.2 grams of sugar per ounce on the Monster and 2.3 grams of sugar per ounce of tea meaning the tea had double the sugar per ounce. I didn’t even explain all my reasoning to Erwin when he concluded that I was terrible wrong. I listened even though he never gave me a breath to fully explain especially after he pointed out there was in fact two servings in my Monster. He also insisted over and over that there was three times more sugar in my Monster. Well like I said I’m not afraid to be wrong. I love it. usually if said person doesn’t make me feel like shit over it. My love for learning usually out weighs all. So the Monster had 38 grams of sugar to its 16 ounces meaning there also 2.3ish maybe 2.4 grams of sugar per ounce. For some reason when I did the math last time and fixed it and then did it on my calculator the tea had exactly 2.2 percent more sugar per ounce but that doesn’t make any sense meow unless somehow the second time I calculated it during the argument I managed to calculate the percentage. I mean 27 twice is 54 and dividing that by 24 goes into 2 and 6/24 which is in fact 2.4. Which I mean if you just multiply my first answer my 2 its still going to come out the same amount of sugar per fluid once. No matter what it isn’t three times...  I was quite angry he even accused me of interrupting so I suckered him into interrupting me lol. I am considering the idea that he might be literally going insane. I also think MelloMad has a hard time accepting that I am actually very smart. Considerably and debatably, smarter then him. He was frustrated that I finished signing up for the websites we use at work with so much faster then he. He was almost instantly mad at the computer as soon as he laid eyes on it though so I don’t know what he expected. I don’t see why in anyway it matters if I’m in anyway shape or form more ineffectual. I wasn’t born smart I worked hard to be smart. He could easily do this as well and I know for a fact there are things I know not much about that MelloMad knows plenty of. We are equal even if so. I wonder if he just sees me normally as less adiquite so when I do prove him wrong its more frustrating. I on the other hand hold MelloMad to an equal standard. If he does fail in any way I trust him to figure it out or at least I’ll help him. I’m talking so much shit about him because of how frustrated I’ve been with him lately. I really hate how much pent up anger I have even if I know exactly why its happening. I have to go off to work in thirty minutes so I’ll have to continue this whole part another time.

My Mom loved chopped. Remember that sentence? Well My sister-in-law friended me recently on facebook. I’d imagine I’ve mentioned it. I saw a heartwarming post of before she friended me about how she was having a coffee totie 2 remember her Mother-in-Law I nearly broke down crying. I don’t believe in evil. I can’t see the evil. I even had Guy admit to me that hell as of now, according to the Bible, doesn’t and won’t exist until judgment day. I think its ironic and amazing that I was finally able to get him to confess. By the way, I’m not Christian. MelloMad in the mist of our difucklty was contacted by his father’s sisters. His aunts he didn’t know of. This inspired me with my new found friendship on facebook to ask my sister-in-law of my own half sister. I didn’t know her name until now but I’ve known of her for a long time. I’ll have to tell you all about her later but I told her all about me and as soon as she’s completed her cool nursing exam she will respond to her long lost sisters brief life summary. She didn’t even know I existed until I messaged her haha. Well anyways I have to go to work. Stay awesome Pain!

My younger brother who's only 20 years old has a host of serious illnesses: crohn's disease, rheumatoid arthritis, irritable bowel syndrome, and a few more conditions that has constantly kept him sick for a good portion of his childhood. I know some of you heartless conservatives believe he should provide his own health coverage, but how? Skater Jagger Eaton is Already a Star, But Can He Hang in the Streets?

Encinitas Skate Plaza looks like a parody of Southern California. It's the kind of place where a boombox is always playing early 2000s Offspring singles, where shirtless dads are forever weaving through crowds of shirtless teens, and where, at any given moment, a helmeted eight-year-old stands on the brink and prepares, for the first time, to drop herself down the cement walls of a never-functional pool that's twice as deep as she is tall.

Poods, as locals refer to the park, is a 13,000-square-foot slab of grey and orange concrete planes and waves and ledges, pierced by flatbars and stairways to nowhere, and surrounded by a parking lot, a soccer field, and a few palm trees that don't provide any shade. Show up most days around noon and there's a decent chance you'll notice one skateboarder, Jagger Eaton, standing out slightly from the rest. It's not that he's doing bigger tricks, necessarily, nor anything especially complicated. And it's not that he literally stands out—he just hit 5'7''.

There's just something almost effortless about the way he cruises around the park. There's an ease in the way he pops his board out of a ramp, the smile as he bails, the pat on the back he gives to check on the well-being of whoever he just slammed into at the bottom of an eight-stair rail. When Jagger does a run of tricks through the park, other skaters stop whatever they're doing, watch, and ask their friends if they saw that.

Jagger might have more contest wins, but there are dozens of other kids who are just as eager to make a name for themselves, who can do (most of) the same tricks and who would like to go pro in his place. For now what really separates Jagger from other 16-year-old skate phenoms—and, presumably, the reason VICE Sports sent me to San Diego to talk to him—is that he is also a TV star.

thanks lucy. to answer you questions i am not behind on anything all payments on bills are paid from allotments through the military so i never see the money besides rent that's the only big bill we have . yes i know its sounds suspect. but we have done everything they asked we had a notarize affidavit signed and we did our recorded statement. i now i should be watching my car but i can not be two places at once. when im on base im on base that's it. i can not drive 75 miles to check on the car. my wife should be doing this i know and im on her about it. i do all the manual work in the house so i know why she could not get it out the snow it rear wheel drive. but really checking on it wont stop a thief. i just don't see it how this happened again. and yes i cant blame the insurance co if they don't pay. looking at at all i would have a hard time too. but my question was what are my options in the event they don't pay

Encinitas Skate Plaza looks like a parody of Southern California. It's the kind of place where a boombox is always playing early 2000s Offspring singles, where shirtless dads are forever weaving through crowds of shirtless teens, and where, at any given moment, a helmeted eight-year-old stands on the brink and prepares, for the first time, to drop herself down the cement walls of a never-functional pool that's twice as deep as she is tall.

Poods, as locals refer to the park, is a 13,000-square-foot slab of grey and orange concrete planes and waves and ledges, pierced by flatbars and stairways to nowhere, and surrounded by a parking lot, a soccer field, and a few palm trees that don't provide any shade. Show up most days around noon and there's a decent chance you'll notice one skateboarder, Jagger Eaton, standing out slightly from the rest. It's not that he's doing bigger tricks, necessarily, nor anything especially complicated. And it's not that he literally stands out—he just hit 5'7''.

There's just something almost effortless about the way he cruises around the park. There's an ease in the way he pops his board out of a ramp, the smile as he bails, the pat on the back he gives to check on the well-being of whoever he just slammed into at the bottom of an eight-stair rail. When Jagger does a run of tricks through the park, other skaters stop whatever they're doing, watch, and ask their friends if they saw that.

(Thrasher owner Tony Vitello told me that they've expressed interest in distributing a video part but nothing is set in stone.
