About the meaning of life and junk...
This may or may not be one of many other posts on this subject, mainly because nobody has the right answer and because it's very vague.
So. The meaning of life...It's one of those things that people have been thinking about since forever and everyone seemingly has their own interpretation of an answer or idea. Humans can't help but be curious about this and always, in some way or another, come back to ponder about it.
I guess the most basic answer would be that we live to do or achieve certain things, milestones if you will. Grow up, get an education, have a job, buy a house, get married, have kids then grandkids etc. It's a good answer, I mean, why would anyone think that having an education or finding a person you love and possibly want to spend all of your life with is a bad thing? It's different for some and similar to others and I get that, but in no way is this not a valid answer.
Another answer about the meaning of life could be to live life to the fullest of it's capacity, like everyday is your last. To get to experience good, bad, exciting, boring and possibly even dangerous events but not regretting ones choices. I think that there are different versions of people with this mindset. There are those who say that they don't regret anything in their life because they always did what they wanted (even if it did come back to bite them in the ass in the end). Maybe sometimes they couldn't do what they wanted to because of some circumstances, like money or time or something, but the things they DID do was all because of their own choices. Then there are those who say that everything they've done was because of their own choices, but in actuality, the things they did were, in one way or another, influenced by other things. In the first case, if you really think about it, then you could say that these people could be reckless, dangerous even not only to them selves but maybe even themselves, but on the other hand, if they always do whatever they truly want to and don't care about anything else then it's also possible to say that they are the most free. On the other hand there are those who do things with consideration, I think that out of the two they are the majority. They have the determination to do whatever they want to, as long as it's well with the boundaries of their rationality. In both cases the main idea is "Do what you want to do, When if not now” or something similar you might read on a poster. I'm not going to say if it's good or bad, this is not about good or bad or staying neutral, because they don't exist. There are no good or bad answers or opinions on them, if you agree great, if you don't it's also fine, every human of every era in human history has his own answer and trying to change or affect it in a way is pointless.
What makes a person who they are is the sum of their experiences, accumulated during their lifetime that make of different aspects of their character or persona. So having as many experiences as possible could be a good way of living your life. But I can't really agree to this. The world is not perfect, and it's impossible to live your life without encountering problems or troubles along the way, people have bad experiences, whether they want to or not. In a way it's a good thing because this lets us grow as a individual and allows us to learn, but that's a little too idealistic. We encounter problems or troubles way more than we do anything good, but at the same time this lets us cherish the good things that happen in out lives more. It's like twinkling stars in the darkness of the night sky. But. People aren't perfect either. I did say the we experience bad situations and grow afterwards, but not all people can handle the same things as others. Some are strong and some aren't, we can't expect others to react the same way we do. This is why I can't really agree to the whole “have as many experiences, good or bad, as you can plan''.
One of the possible answers was to surround yourself with the things you love. Family. Friends. Pets. But it can also be things like art or cars or money. As long as you love it and it makes you happy then it's all good, right? I feel like I'm going back to the no regrets thing way too often. But having no regrets is maybe an important part of living. It's not like anyone want to have regrets, ever.
In the case of animals, they don't really think about why they live. Or at least we have no way of knowing. The thing that we do know is that animals have instincts(humans are also animals). Mainly I mean the instinct to procreate, to pass on the genes from one generation to the next in hopes of increasing the survivability of the species. We don't really think about having kids in this way, at least I don't. For some it's to continue their bloodline, for others it's something that you just have to have, some think about it as a way to have someone to inherit their will or ideas. The main point is that people, as well as animals instinctively have the idea of having children, to pass on their experiences to future generations.
Speaking about future generations. I guess there are those who think that the meaning of life is to make the future a better place, for everyone. They don't live their life for just themselves but live in a way that their accomplishments would make it easier for the others to live their lives. They don't live for themselves but at the same time it brings them joy of knowing that in some way or another they are making a difference (even if it might not). They have a sort of reassurance that they are doing the right thing and they aren't afraid of regretting about it later on. Honestly, These kinds people scare me the most. You never know what they might think of. Sure it can be something amazing that might forever change the way we think about everything we know, but it can also lead to disastrous consequences.
I guess I should talk about religion when it comes to the "Big question”. But I don't know much about religion to say anything worthwhile. I know that some think that the life we live now is a sort of trial and all the bad things that happen are a test that we need to pass in order to get to heaven. Others think that the meaning of life is to serve God, pray and uphold his teachings. Some say that it's about finding one self or about inner peace. I honestly can't say much about any of this while staying more or less impartial to any of the religions (current or past).
There is of course there is a possibility that none of it actually matters. There is no meaning, life is pointless. It's just one big accident that happened billions of years ago and we are just the aftermath. Well, it's a sad idea to say the least. Humans tend to think that the world revolves around them, that they're the main hero of some story with a happy ending or a moral lesson or a big finish in the end. We all want to think that there is more to it than just “an accident”, and it scares us to think otherwise. We LIKE being “special”. If/when a person dies the universe still continues to exist, well, to us it does. Then what's the point of living if it's just one big accident? Well...there is no point. But that's what makes it great! If live as we know it happened due to this accident, then it's pretty hard to possibly imagine the odds, the chances of it happening, of LIFE happening. And especially the chances of that accident leading to the creation of something so alive, so weird compared to the rest of EVERYTHING, so different and unpredictable like YOU. For all we know, life is such an unpredictable thing that we could be the only example of it in the whole universe! But the fact that it is so unpredictable is what makes life to great! if life doesn't have a point then what's the point, well, we're alive, we think and we exist in an absolutely different state that anything else in the universe ( as far as we know at least). That is the point, that is what makes us "special” not in the way of society or the world, but in the universe as a whole. Life is precious, so precious that we only have one place where you can find it, Earth. It's strange and weird, it has different forms and can make more of itself, it can move and think and do many other things, it's wonderful.
