It was on this day in 1305 that William Wallace was executed for high treason.

You probably know Wallace best for his tremendous speech that he gave before Scotland won in that one battle against England but what I find most fascinating about Uilleam Uallas is that he was killed in Smithfield, England. Smithfield is a pork concern that sells fine ham and bacon products to grocers and purveyors of food all about this land that we now inhabit. (Statistically, if you’re reading this you’re probably in the U.S.A.  but they might sell Smithfield in Canada and Australia, too.)

In the interests of making it look like I wrote some words and put some thought into this post, here is the section of Blind Harry’s banger, The Wallace, that appears on the Wikipedia page about it:
