Hey Chronivac, I’m almost done with my masters degree but it’s all so stressful and busy now. I wish I could go back and live as a young dumb huge horny meathead of a teen and not have to worry about this stuff. Is there a setting for that?

It's the last vacations before you have to write the final exams. Then your master thesis is due. And you don't even have a topic yet. This is going to be the worst Thanksgiving ever. Constantly having to answer questions about how things are going at university. And what you'll do afterwards. And when your parents will have grandchildren. And you have your head full with the topics of the exams. The best thing would have been for you to stay on campus and study.

The bus from the campus to the airport is full of exuberant students. Half the football team is on the bus with you. The fellows are bawling, farting and burping on the bus. Just like kids. Not like the future pillars of society. You're pretty jealous of them….

In the check-in line, you and a few other juniors gossip about your professors. Shit, not being able to work out together at the gym over the vacations sucks. Thanksgiving is bad for your constitution. You can already hear your mom whining when you only want rice with your turkey breast and don't want gravy. Your stomach grumbles. It's coming! "Protein fart," you grumble. Your bros join in, laughing.

Half the campus crowds the security checkpoint. You can see a few of the other sophomores. Apart from that, it's mostly older students around you. Your bruhs from the football team and you sing the team anthem. And then take turns doing chestbumps. The business travelers around you smile pained. All losers. Only envious of you.

On the plane, you don't even manage to stay awake until the security briefing. Fuck, you and the other freshmen had a hard week. Football, gym, parties. Oh yeah, and a few lectures too. Hopefully your parents don't ask about any exams. Oh fuck, then you tell them about the success of the football team. The person sitting next to you suffers from the smell of your sweat. But you had to let your muscles burn one more time before Thanksgiving dinner. And "Sun's out, guns out" is for wimps. You show your arms whenever you can. Your mom will hate it, your dad will love it. But primarily, everyone will be happy that you're coming home for the first time since you started college.

The Guts Write up Nobody asked for

1. Out the gate with beautiful vocals in All American Bitch. The acoustic intro is interesting and catchy, but when it hits with drums and electric guitar, the song picks up so much. I love her almost punk sound in the chorus, especially the second chorus. This one definitely hits pop rock and it's incredible. The drop to the acoustic at the end is -chefs kiss-.

2. Bad idea right? Is THAT bitch. The sound is incredible, but let's talk lyrics. "My brain goes Ahhhh" is such a mood when you think about that ex you aren't over. "Yes I know that he's my ex but can't two people reconnect I only see him as a friend biggest lie I ever said" This whole track is just a love song to making bad decisions around exes. Let me just say it brings back every single time Alex showed back up in my life and we would be "friends" until the whole line of "I just tripped and fell into his bed..." SONICALLY this song is interesting and upbeat, it's just so good.

3. I don't really have much new to say about Vampire- what a beautiful song about a fucked up time in her life. I love the interesting music and changes in the song. It's catchy, it's just good. It's been good since it came out.

4. Let's talk about the bisexual anthem lacy. It's yet another song for the girlies who don't understand the difference between jealousy and attraction AKA me in high school. The lyrics in this one are silly to me, I think describing skin as puff pastry is so ridiculous, but it's such a vibe for being a teenager and thinking someone is perfect and being jealous. "I despise my rotton mind and how much it worships you" IS NOT A STRAIGHT THING.

5. This one immediately starts off gritty and is almost whiplash following Lacy. The chorus has such a neat and interesting sound and I'm so glad she took a risk with the punk leaning sound for this album. This is another song that makes this album the pop rock genre. I love how upbeat it is, it's a bop and a dance around your room with headphones pretending you're the lead singer of a band song. I will say I don't love the part where it slows down, but I'm glad it picks up and doesn't end with a slower part.

6. Making the bed physically hurt me. I feel personally attacked by the lyrics. I'm not sure I can talk about this. "Push away all the people who know me the best, but it's me who's making the bed. I'm so tired of being the girl that I am every good thing is turning to something I dread, I'm playing the victim so well in my head, but it's me who's been making the bed." Fucking ouch okay. "I got the things I wanted it's just not what I imagined" 😭 it's a perfect mid album song, slowing it down for a minute after lots of energy.

7. I don't have words for logical. Love song to the girls who have been in toxic relationships with men who take advantage of the ones who fall hard. This is an Alex song and I hate it but "you've got me thinking two plus two equals five and I'm the love of your life" I mean come on the WAY people convince you of lies. "Why do I do this, I look so stupid" is the moment of realizing that you were hoodwinked but somehow you still feel for them even though you know better. The whole outro of blaming yourself is just heartbreaking and I am unwell right now okay.

8. Alright back to it with some drums and gritty sound. This one has a great vibe. The chorus is everything to me. Upbeat I hate this man I'm gonna fuck up his life, the break up song for us girlies who knows we aren't gonna get closure but like we're ready to take it. The whole vibe of I want to make him hurt....but with the confusing aspect of wanting to make him feel better by being the one he turns to...nope I want revenge except I want him back FUCK. The perfect song for that confusing part of the break up where you're almost ready to move on but not really.

9. Love is embarrassing is a mood lol. The dumb shit we do when we think we're in love, the way we don't really have boundaries or know what we'll put up with yet. I appreciate the sound and how catchy the song is. I also love the pretty abrupt ending.

10. Alright, slow it back down. We've got the signature acoustic and Olivia's beautiful voice for this one. It seems like it's going to crescendo, but it doesn't quite get there. Lyrically, "I fantasize about a time you're a little fucking sorry" got me. "How could anybody do the things you did so easily" I am unwell. This song made me emotional about a fucking break up that happened almost a year ago. Fuck this. I am hurt. ~you know I can't let it go, I've tried I've tried I've tried for so long~ and it just ending...ugh so good.

11. Pretty isn't pretty starts strong. The sound is good, the lyrics are honest. It just addresses growing up a girl and developing self worth issues and is probably one of my favorite songs here because of the topic. We drop from worrying about relationships and just address what it's like when it feels like nothing is ever good enough. It's not my favorite based on sound, but it's good enough.

12. Ending on a sad note, I see. This one is a coming of age song and not understanding there is so much good ahead. You're just nineteen babe you've got so many better days to come. But at twenty eight I felt this. It's saying goodbye to younger days, "they all say that it gets better, it gets better but what if I don't" screams mental illness to me but I'm probably projecting my own issues. God I love how it picks up because it's such a big feeling. She did a great job of using music to set the mood in this one. Also the outro, the baby sounds the mom sounds just God fucking damn.

Taylor Swift songs that are Ronance in some way or another

Gorgeous, obviously, do I need to say more? Because I will: This song is "told" through Nancy's perspective and I think it demonstrates the frustration that Nancy had with Robin at the beginning perfectly. Also these parts that I don't see people talk about: And you should think about the consequence // Of you touching my hand in the darkened room ...DO I NEED TO REMIND EVERYONE OF THE HANDHOLD?! Along with many other lines in the song that aligned with Ronance, such as the boyfriend line and the ocean blue eyes line

Next is Style, admittedly, this is really just a personal thing, I like to headcanon that one of Robin's favourite movies is Rebel Without a Cause and that she relates to Jim Stark (played by James Dean) and just... the overall vibe of the song, I imagine them just cruising in Steve or Nancy's car, blasting this at full volume.

Labyrinth, yet another Nancy Wheeler POV song... idk what to tell you, she's just very Swiftie core/j This song reminds me of when Vecna is defeated and Nancy is navigating her sexuality, the line You know how scared I am of elevators // Never trust it if it rises fast // It can't last just makes me think of Nancy trying to stop having a crush on Robin because her previous relationship never lasted, if you get what I mean? Another line that speaks Nancy on an astronomical level is You know how much I hate that everybody just expects me to bounce back // Just like that.

A Robin POV song at last!!! Gold Rush, Robin is an evermore girlie, this isn't projection... totally not. This song is more based on s3, than s4. She just envies Nancy, like I have a feeling, she wants to be like her in a way that she's accepted; What must it be like // To grow up that beautiful? // With your hair falling into place like dominos Nancy, in her eyes, at this time, is the epitome of a perfect girl and perfect girls are accepted by people. The ending of the song is just Robin realizing that she could never be with Nancy, because of their circumstances.

Back to Nancy now... The Great War, of course let me start with the line My hand was the one you reached for // All throughout the Great War going back to the handhold once again, because it is precious to me. A lot of the lyrics can be applied to Ronance scenes with this one. Like And maybe it's the past that's talkin' // … // Tellin' me to punish you for things you never did The library scene, Nancy being jealous of Robin because she thought she was dating Steve. Broken and blue, so I called off the troops // That was the night I nearly lost you The scene where Robin first got caught by the vines. I vowed I would always be yours // 'Cause we survived the Great War This goes back to the whole s5 theory of how Nancy will be made to choose between Robin/Steve/Jonathan and she will choose Robin, because she didn't choose Barb and it will be all symbolism and shit lmaoo.

AND THE LAST ONE, THE FINALE, THE CHERRY ON TOP

Ivy, the Emisue anthem, if you will. I can write an essay on this one... every line fits with Nancy so well.

Oh, goddamn // My pain fits in the palm of your freezing hand - Nancy finally has someone to confide in, someone who she feels will understand her on such a deep level, not just because of her trauma, but because she's the first girl after Barb she's been friends with. Robin listens to her problems, doesn't try to solve them, she's there for her when she needs to vent. Taking mine, but it's been promised to another Nancy is still in a relationship with Jonathan, her "hand has been promised to another". Oh, I can't // Stop you putting roots in my dreamland // My house of stone, your ivy grows // And now I'm covered in you She's tried to push Robin away, but Robin doesn't budge, she's not leaving her no matter how much Nancy is trying to push her away. Nancy's trying to not get attached to Robin, but Robin just by being herself has planted herself into Nancy's heart and is taking up the space in Nancy's mind and that only grows and grows. I wish to know // The fatal flaw that makes you long to be // Magnificently cursed I take this line in the context of Ronance 2 ways. 1. Nancy doesn't understand how Robin can be so cursed with herself as to want to be friends with her, "magnificently" specifically because Nancy is still thankful for her. 2. The way Robin's actually ok with being a lesbian in the 80's, of course, she's not out, but she still knows she only likes girls and isn't trying to change that (unlike Nancy). Crescent moon, coast is clear // Spring breaks loose, but so does fear both the crescent moon and spring have been used in a lot of literary works as a symbol for a new beginning with Robin, Nancy sees a new beginning, she sees it very clearly, but she's scared, of her sexuality, of what the people will think, of hurting Jonathan, of ruining this new found beginning etc. So yeah, it's a fire // It's a goddamn blaze in the dark // And you started it // You started it // So yeah, it's a war // It's the goddamn fight of my life // And you started it // You started it Nancy is at war with herself, she has feelings for Robin, but she thinks she's not supposed to (internalised homophobia), she's at war with herself because she doesn't know what happens next, because of Robin.

this episode of daryl dixon i decided i would leave common sense at the door and take a double dose of suspension of disbelief, and let me tell you, it helped a lot. now i don't have to ask questions like: where the food comes from? how comes the bad guys have clean and ironed clothes, electricity, running water but the good guys don't have beans for soup? why every french person knows the exact convert rate from kilometers to miles? why there's no useful electronic like a a working radio? how comes they still have bullets? if the zombies are so easy to kill, why nobody cleaned up the street? why norman reeds looks like he never touched a fish in his life and doesn't want to start now? why french people start singing the anthem in the middle of a speech? or when they see a man about to fight a zombie? why do the bad guys have a zombie/gladiator arena instead of idk being generic evil in any other way? why do they imply that the people lining up to enter the show were there against their will if they are all cheering now?

anyway, now we can go back to focus only on the plot and the characters. good news: in the series titled daryl dixon, the 5th episode out of 6 is finally about daryl dixon. we find out how he get to france (sort of), it didn't had much relevance on the plot so i don't see why they kept if for dramatic value. but on daryl side at least something happened. on Isabelle side, writers weren't sure what to do with her, so we see her plotting how to kill Quinn, (she calls it off bc he quotes some catholic text about redemption, but this isn't brought up again, so it's more likely that it was just for that scene) she then thinks about killing herself but ish..also it's breakfast time, we don't to those things in front of a fresh salad. So at last she decides she will manipulate Quinn: it wasn't an hard task bc he's been simping for the past decade. Imo Isabelle lost her agency around ep 3 when the writers put her in idle. i hope the next episode she'll do something active. so far she's just been brought places. Laurant (little jesus) is the worst. but he's a kid- No. he deserved a face slap from paris to cannes. he cut the rope to the boat they were using to get to safety, bc he has abandonment issues? daryl calls him little shit and forgives him right away. you'll have to walk at least 100km in a place full of zombies, without food, without shelter, your other friend that was helping you just died in the worst way ever written and you cut our chance at safety? i'm leaving your ass! they in fact get captured by the bad guys like a minute after loosing the boat. anyway via plot convenience they all find themselves at the bad guys lair and daryl is to fight a boosted up zombie. will he survive? stay tuned! (episode ends here)

Now about the Quinn subplot, his new girlfriend is jealous of a woman that is there against her will (kinda) and she sells him out to Genet (boss of the bad guys). How does this work exactly? 1) if quinn wasn't useful, genet would've put someone else in his place already. 2)technically it was Anna who let laurent go, so she's the traitor 3)genet and quinn aren't part of the same organization, there can't be betrayal. they are 2 separate parties that at times cooperate. i'm not saying genet can't accuse him of treason but? don't give me bullshit reasons for locking up quinn. she (as french) could've just wanted to get rid of the birtish/american tourist. voilà, tout le monde deteste les touristes, est normal. but hey, my bad i got lost in logic again. my god this show gives us just the vibes of a story. there's no story here. the characters don't have an arc, they're the same people from ep 1, no change, no learning, nothing. things happen to them and they don't have reactions. And you know they're badly written bc the dialogue is obvious and empty and flat. and so absent. there's so much silence in this story that isn't highlighting actions, it's just silence bc nobody could find a way to fill it. I don't come from the walking dead, i have no idea what's up with daryl dixon and after 5 episodes (around 4hours and half) of a story about him I still don't know. What is this story about? faith? tyranny? how easy it is to fall for idols in a difficult moment? even the choice of setting the story in France, was it for aesthetic? were the writers trying to make parallels with french history and dictators? The annoying part is that even the few elements they throw around in could've been used: there's a military party, there's this kid that everyone is claiming is the new messiah, there's a nightclub in paris surrounded by death. those elements can fit in a bigger narrative. about looking for comfort for example. when the world ends where do you find the will to live? do you follow the path of order in hope to fix the chaos around you? do you look for a meaning, hoping it will all make sense and there's some god above looking down at you? do you see the zombie apocalypse as a punishment from above and now you follow only the righteous path? or you say fuck all of this! life has no meaning i'll go to the only nightclub left in the world? is this about avoiding pain or is it about living life to the fullest as much as you can with the limited resources you have?

there are endless possibility for a zombie story. a story about survival is never just a story about survival but about the things we do to survive. those are the stories people get attached to, bc they touch a part of us that we all have and can't explore. (bc hopefuly we won't find ourselves in extremely tragic situations)

they just needed to give genet a real need for order. not just army guys going around in their jeep killing pigeon lovers. give quinn a less aesthetic nightclub, make him sell drugs. this way he has a lot of people needing him and he has power and he's not just some generic bad dude with a night and a silly hat. give Isabelle a real sense of faith. living with nuns doesn't automatically convert you. give laurant actual lines or superpowers, everybody believes he's jesus bc he's off-putting?? he's just a weird kid. he did nothing. nobody knows how or why he's special. he didn't do any miracles. let him cure people. give us audience a reason to believe he's special, not the "he comforted a widow who lost he husband yesterday and was too heartbroken until laurent gave her a hug" bitch her husband died, what you want her to do? how was she supposed to feel? it wasn't even a week.

and into all of this give daryl dixon a journey, not just finding a working radio to go back to america. what meaning did he find in 11 series of the walking dead? does he believe in god? what does he do in front of a miracle? does he think religion sucks and it's all a lie, then he must agree with the new militia, everything illogical must be destroyed bc people will do terrible things for false idols. but then what if it's a child? and what if this whole problem doesn't touch him? can he keep going on the way of the lone wolf or does he intervene? there's no trouble in being alone but what does he do in face of injustice? what if you get killed for stepping up? how do you fight?

there's a lot of plot points that could've given daryl dixon and the other characters depth but unfortunately this series isn't about it :(

I think alcina will be the last person reader will talk to about it because it’s kinda hard to admit to a mother that you killed her children in another timeline 💀

But honestly reader’s guilt is probably one of the most heartbreaking things in tptm. Imagine falling in love with this family who helped you when you forgot everything about who you were, only to be controlled into killing them again and again. That sense of hopelessness they felt in chp 13 or 14 (i dont remember 💀) when they were stuck in their head trying to go back but lunatic prevented it, or the first reality when lunatic blamed reader for being weak. It made reader think that they were the reason they all died, that they didn’t try hard enough to save them. The dimitrescus might forgive them but it’ll take a while for them to forgive themselves. Their story is so sad and I hope Dani and cass can comfort them 😭

honestly, i try to just show their trauma in small ways and i’m glad it’s been picked up so well. i mean, i couldn’t imagine waking up one day to this murderous family only for them to protect me and guide me into a fitting personality, only to one day have it all come crashing down in the span of mere minutes. i know some people think Reader’s actions are a little silly, and i would agree sometimes, but that’s the unfortunate reality of trauma and mental illness :( even though they’ve told Cass and Dani, what can they really do? they didn’t witness it. they weren’t there. they don’t wake up from nightmares that it’s happening again

but, now that Dani knows and seeing how she’s better at physical comfort, she’ll know better how to ground them, and i think that’s what they need

9. I WASNT SURE HOW WELL THIS SCENE WOULD BE RECEIVED BUT I LOVED WRITING IT- Dani openly communicating that it hurts her feelings when they think she doesn’t care enough just to try and help despite not knowing the extent of their issues 😭 please she’s so sweet and i love her

First Dance: The art of Improvisation

It is always interesting to me when I get asked about my interpretation of a genre of music. A deeply personal overview and even critique of a medium that can bring out deep emotional responses from people while also holding incredible cultural weight and wanting to respect the art and the interpretation equally. It's a bit difficult to do with a genre like Salsa because of my deeply-rooted personal ties with the genre.

Having been raised by practitioners since its inception, both dancers and musicians alike taught me how to use my inherited love of the rhythm to become fluent not only as a dancer but as an expression of myself through dance. Salsa, much like the people it comes from, blends together the best aspects of Afro-Latin culture and stylized the image in a way that differentiated itself from its contemporaries at the time as its own entity.

In Volume II of Salsa Revolution, Willi Colon jokes about playing with the image of the 'gangster' at the time (heavily influenced by the mafia culture within the immigrant communities of New York) and incorporating that confidence alongside bombastic instrumentation and an incredible ear for rhythm. Interestingly this idea can find itself repeated in later generations of Hip-Hop and Jazz music, truly lending credence to the influence our cultures shared with one another during pivotal times of community and expression. These pictures, the hypnotizing clave (bap-bap-bap. BapBAP), the emotion behind it- it was me growing up. When you hear stories of families coming from different parts of any Antiguan Island to New York during a time of strife and evolution, finding their way amongst Italian, Turkish, African and Jewish peers experiencing the same thing you can feel the sense of family amongst conversations between old New Yorkers. The Viejos and Viejas of the world sharing stories of the suits, the dancing. Izzy Zanabria hit it on the head. "Salsa is Latin soul, and started in the heart of Africa. " Eventually flowing through every part of Latin America, receiving many different interpretations and cultural depictions. At its heart is a blending of Jazz, Bambo, African drums (of SEVERAL different cultures), with a sprinkle of the Taino influence. The heart of Salsa is in every Latin person because its in our DNA. The ability to create, to combine, to express. And Salsa is nothing if not a language of expression and improvisation meeting together in perfect harmony. Through its origins, becoming a language and soul of the Latin culture also came with broader representation in the world. While Salsa can find itself eventually as the foundation of reggeton, the evolution is not without its unsung heroes. Within Volume II is also the mention of Chef Feliciano, who is an undisputed legend in the art. Without him, music would not be what it is today. While not a similar scale of impact, I would also give more recognition to Eddie Santiago who created what I think to be one of the best Salsa songs of all time and a clear representation of the genre while it was at a fever pitch. They capture the emotionality, the percussion, the emotion of the genre incredibly well. With that being said, I have been focusing on a lot of what the men have had to say about the genre and not the ultimate representation of the genre at its finest.

Celia Cruz is without a doubt the definition of "often emulated and never duplicated." Many of us have memories (better or worse) of Quimbara being the spring cleaning anthem and also one of the songs that made everybody start dancing at get togethers. Her power as a vocalist was transcendent, her spirit as an artist irreplaceable. I wouldn't change the mixture of fear and joy I feel hearing Cruz on an early Sunday morning for anything. While through these videos I am sure you have seen the power of dance within the genre. Our bodies move, twist, and bend in ways that would have Yuri on Ice jealous in its animation if it ever came (and it should). We explode more than our Spanish Flamenco peers, we have more freestyles than 'traditional' dance forms of more westernized identities, and oftentimes the equal parts confident and provocative nature of our dancing represents our African influences with tight turns, incredible footwork, and group synchronization that will continue to stand the test of time. And, regardless of gender identity we do it in shoes with heels, baby. Equal opportunity flexing. As a cool aside, some of my favorite dancers from France, Les-Twins, have oftentimes referenced and directly have danced various interpretations of salsa during some of their World of Dance and global competitions. The art of improvisation is in the heart of Latin music and Salsa as well as its evolution (and family ties) are reminiscent of how artistry and community can create something spectacular.

Charlotte Sands – Good Now EP

”No I’ll never be all right, but maybe I’ll get close…” Charlotte Sands sings vulnerably on the single “Alright,” as she now has a true home for the great song on the Good Now EP. Sands stormed onto the music scene by being at the tip of the tongue of bands, like The Maine and Sleeping With Sirens, with key collaborations on singles such as “Loved You A Little,” and she continues her trajectory in the right direction with this latest collection of songs found here. The EP finds Charlotte Sands exploring the realm of possibilities that she can take her music next, and makes all the right moves on arguably her most dramatic and immediate record to date. The EP opens cautiously with the title track as she admits, “Had a vision / That I’m on stage, and nobody’s watching me / I’m afraid that I’m who I’ll always be.” Her insecurities are instantly relatable in a music scene that is filled with “here today, gone tomorrow” artists struggling to find their footing. What makes Charlotte Sands different is her dedication to her songwriting craft that seems to be blossoming at just the right time. ”Lost” picks up the tempo with a synth-laden, club ready anthem that even pop mainstays like Lady Gaga would be jealous of. On the second verse, Sands bring up her past by confessing, “Eighteen in the city / Got as high as the ceiling / Mixed emotions with Adderall / Thinking nothing could kill me / Barely making a living / Get me out of the city.” As she revisits the person she was before she became a household name in the music scene, her crisp vocals paired with the frenetic beat showcase an artist willing to bare her soul for all the world to see, and relate to. Other songs like “Tantrum” invite the listener into her headspace as she sings with triumphant fury, “I’m outta patience / And I’m seeing red / My thoughts are burning / A hole in my head / Wish I could bury it down / Til it’s dead.” It’s a song that rocks as hard as the passion Sands puts into it, and it makes for a great listening experience. The back half of the EP kicks off with the aforementioned “Alright,” while the ballad “Lovesick” has a memorable, breathy chorus on the heart-wrenching song of, “I wish I was love sick / I wish I felt nauseous / Crying cause you didn’t call / Don’t know when I turned it off / I miss my heart racing / Scared to death of breaking / I wish so bad I could fall / But lately I don’t care at all / I wish I was love sick.” The song reminded me a bit of the love torn anthems from Olivia Rodrigo’s Sour, and yet Charlotte Sands has a style that really complements her voice. Things land on the right footing with the closing song of “Six Feet Under” that rocks along like an Avril Lavigne punk rock song, with equally pleasing results. Overall, there’s plenty to love on Good Now, and it shines the bright light on Charlotte Sands booming music career that is exploding in the best of ways for her. She is taking full opportunity of this moment in time, and never relinquishes the stranglehold she has on these songs that are brimming with limitless possibilities of where she could take her music. I also love hard. I wear my heart on my sleeve. If you hurt my feelings, I won’t ever tell you and I won’t show it, but I’ll think about it for all of eternity.
