Trevor regarded his latest creation with mild satisfaction. After spending every free moment he had locked in his makeshift workshop, he was finally starting to get the hang of this.

A moment later, he was surprised to hear a knock at the door.

“Uh, hi Aunt Phoebe.”

“Hey, kid. You’re looking good.”

“Uh, thanks.“ Trevor waited to hear what she wanted, a little awkwardly. He didn’t want to to rude, but he’d never really been close to his aunt--not really my aunt--and now, well. She was probably on his side. She was his sister, after all.

“I tried the main house, but no one answered,” she said. “You working on some kind of project in there? I thought I heard banging.”

“Not really. Nothing big. ...Um. So...”

Phoebe sighed. “Listen, I’m gonna come right out and say it. It’s not my business to butt in here, and Watcher knows what a pain in the ass my brother can be--”

“I’m not interested in talking to him,” Trevor interrupted. So much for not being rude.

“That’s your choice,” Phoebe said flatly. “I’m not gonna beg you to forgive him.

“I just hope you know he loves you.”

No one had remembered Trevor’s birthday. Not that he’d expected them to. Not that he cared. The bonfire the other night had been his and Nancy’s joint birthday party, pretty much. It wasn’t like anything was all that different now, anyway, except that he didn’t have to go to school anymore. That part would take some getting used to.

But the rest? Just more of the same.
