They’re Not Really Rappers But They Hip Hop Too…

As you might know, hip hop is not only about the real music, it also evolves around the fashion, dance and visuals that come with it. Hip hop is an art, it’s a feeling, and it’s a way of life. So, not only rappers should be acknowledged for the hip hop culture as there are many other people keeping this ‘beautiful flame of love’ alive.

1.      Kanye West

Although most people classify him, generally, as a rapper, I personally think he’s way more than that. Kanye West is like god to most teens of today. Apart from his music and fashion, Kanye affects more lives by just living ordinarily, to be honest. His bizarre, grotesque and sometimes weird lifestyle has been, over the years, the blueprint of what most kids want to emulate. From discontinuing Taylor Swift from accepting her VMA award gracefully back in 2009 to announcing he would run for presidency in 2020, basically anything he does garners serious attention.

2.      Metro Boomin

If you want to get your tape not slept on and be so popular, even as an upcoming rapper, you should definitely hit Metro Boomin up. This young producer is partly responsible for the success of various rappers like Future, Young Thug, 21 Savage, Migos, Travi$ Scott, etc. He is one of the few recognised pioneers of contemporary trap music in Atlanta, you know, he is one of those that really define the trap sound. Just know when you hear ‘…if Young Metro don’t trust you…’ on a track, it’s a hit.

3.      Virgil Abloh, Ian Connor and A$AP Bari

These guys are the real streetwear fashion icons.

Virgil Abloh who was the art director of Jay Z and Kanye’s ‘Watch The Throne’ album which he was Grammy nominated for, for best record packaging, is an American creative designer and the founder of the Milan-based fashion label Off-White.

Ian Connor was the king of youth before being replaced by Lil Yachty. An A$AP Mob affiliate and fashion stylist, social media maven and creative consultant at 22, Ian Connor with a seemingly lackadaisical attitude and existential confidence has amassed a massive social media following and clearly is a great part of hip hop.

A$AP Bari is a co-founder of the A$AP Mob with A$AP Illz and now deceased A$AP Yams. He owns the Vlone label which is always donned by many rappers in their music videos.

 4.      SheLovesMeechie And Toosi

These are two young dancers from Atlanta. They both together pioneered a new, fun and beautiful style of dancing to hip hop hits. Dance moves like ‘Slamdunk’, ‘Yeet’ and ‘NaeNae’, though not invented by them, were surely made more popular by them. They’ve also been on tour with top rappers like Future, Young Thug, Migos, etc.

 5.      Gunnerstahl And Cam Kirk

Gunnerstahl is a photographer from Atlanta. He is not your everyday twitter photographer. Gunnerstahl gets so up close and personal with the rappers he takes pictures of. He’s worked with many rappers like Childish Gambino, Lil Uzi Vert, Big Sean, The Weeknd, Wiz Khalifa etc. The beauty of the pictures he takes is the air or mood surrounding the pics, they’re mostly unplanned for, chilled out and cool. He currently has photobook titled ‘Life’s Boring’ set for release in February.

Cam Kirk is another photographer and videographer from Atlanta. He is one of the most important photographers in hip hop. He is the ‘eye of Atlanta’, as being described by Complex mag. Cam Kirk has produced work for Young Jeezy, T.I., Bun B, Tank, Schoolboy Q, Curren$y, Monica, Metro Boomin, Rae Sremmurd, 2 Chainz, Future, Gucci Mane, Young Thug and many more. Known for his candid and raw style of photography, Cam Kirk’s works are widely known. While continuing his endeavours in photography and videography, the sky sets no limit for the young creative Cam Kirk.
