On May 1st, a large group of Sudanese refugees fled Olala camp in Ethiopia's Amhara region. Their repeated pleas for essential supplies and protection from armed fighters to both Ethiopian authorities and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees went unanswered. Sudanese content creator Sara (@bsonblast) on Instagram shared that these refugees are now seeking safety in the wilderness and urged people to reconsider donating to the United Nations, citing the ongoing suffering of the refugees.

The conflict between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) in Sudan has resulted in one of the world's most severe humanitarian crises and the largest displacement crisis. Since April 15, 2023, estimates suggest between 15,000 and 150,000 Sudanese people have been killed, and nearly 10 million have been displaced, according to the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project (ACLED). The violence has ravaged once-thriving cities, leaving civilians to face atrocities, food shortages, intermittent internet access, and widespread destruction of infrastructure.

This situation raises a critical question: Why has the international community remained silent and failed to provide aid to millions of Sudanese people and advocate for peace?

🎥 Amid my acute starvation outside the UNHCR office, unaddressed complaints to the Inspector General, and inattentive staff, I submitted a handwritten note on June 28th, 2024, reiterating my request for daily quality food provisions and monetary donations until my dire captivity in Greece is resolved. However, their inaccurate email response, citing impractical solutions and false service visit claims, further endangered my well-being and exposed significant gaps in UNHCR’s case management. In 2022 we are shining a spotlight on Chagas disease, the suffering it causes and are calling for equitable access to health care and services for everyone affected by the disease. The theme for the World Chagas disease Day 2022 is finding and reporting every case to defeat Chagas disease. In many countries, there are low detection rates (<10%, frequently <1%) and frequent barriers to access adequate healthcare.

Artists are invited to submit a proposal by July 30th - that’s TODAY so get on it! 🔥 ••• Riverviews is committed to presenting contemporary art exhibitions, multi-disciplinary programs and events as diverse as the surrounding community. Its urban mix of living spaces, studios, galleries, a movie theater and meeting places attracts artists, tenants, patrons and tourists alike. ••• During the print bonanza we will be utilizing BIG INK's giant mobile etching press to pull prints up to 40” x 96” in dimension. Those accepted will have two months prior to the event to carve their image into a piece of plywood. BIG INK's role is to make the production of a large-scale woodblock accessible and easy to understand. We hope to make the experience rewarding and informative by imparting our knowledge of preferred materials and techniques. We do so through a PDF materials guide and series of step-by-step videos that walk participants through the carving process. ••• The program is designed for printmakers who understand basic woodblock principles but want to expand their expertise and working scale. The program is also designed for those not yet trained in woodblock but whose visual aesthetic would lend itself to the medium. This includes illustrators, sculptors, designers, and painters who use bold contrast, strong outlines, and patterning. ••• It is free to submit a proposal; accepted artists pay $295 dollars to participate. This covers all consumable materials for the event including printing ink, paper, cleaning supplies, equipment usage and photography of the finished work.
